Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

I would say that every parkrun I have ever been to has been friendly and welcoming - and as standingonlego points out, I've been to a few Grin 48 different events in the UK and even one in Copenhagen. It's amazing how you can turn up, even abroad, with just some trainers and a barcode and be instantly welcomed. The last event I went to that wasn't "home" was Beeston in Nottingham and I was happily chatting to the RD and being invited for breakfast after the event! Last week I was chatting to some of cinnamons friends that turned up at MK. parkrun has such an amazing community feel.

No cake for tomorrow as my whole house is pretty much packed ready for moving in just over a week but I do have bags and bags of lollies to share out which should go down well.

FiftyNineOhEight · 26/08/2016 22:47

Wow doesn't seem long since your 50th Blathers have a great run tomorrow.

I'm skiving off today. Hideous night with the baby. Big boys have just left though

FiftyNineOhEight · 27/08/2016 11:57

Hope you catch up on your sleep pidj.

I had a slowish run today but it was good to be running after volunteering last week. Am also volunteering next week so a friend and I can have a longer run afterwards as we are both training for HMs.

Enjoyed this morning :) friend got a pb of 35.07 and ran the whole thing plus had enough left in her to sprint the finish straight! Really pleased! Followed it up with breakfast at wetherspoons and a birthday brandy ;)

Apparently I have been signed up to the local 10 miler in November - am scared already!

Hope everyone had a good run today!

AwakeCantSleep · 27/08/2016 13:58

Hello, I'd like to join if I may. I did my first parkrun today, my first ever 5k run! I have been doing the couch to 5k (I'm at the 25 minutes stage, so not quite there), and my neighbour encouraged me to come along today. She is a volunteer and was the tail runner today.

I cannot tell you how pleased I am. I turn 40 next week, I was never sporty (probably the least likely person to take up running), and I did the 5k in 31.09 minutes! And with quite bad back pain (sciatic nerve? Not sure).

I'll definitely go again. It's really good fun, there were over 300 people running today. So happy to be a parkrunner Smile

PurplePidjin · 27/08/2016 15:38

Fifty ha, no chance, but I did bake his birthday cake to take to the in laws tomorrow!

Welcome to the nicest possible club awake :o

Freshprincess · 27/08/2016 15:57

Awake - well done! That's pretty close to my PB and I've been running for 10 years. You'll be at 25 minutes before you know.

AwakeCantSleep · 27/08/2016 17:33

Thanks Fresh Smile I wouldn't have been able to sustain the pace much longer though...

MelanieCheeks · 27/08/2016 19:54

Well done Awake, keep it going!

I had an enjoyable run at Stormont's birthday - they had a really tasty cake, though they ran out of milk just as I arrived at the tea point. I was 4th in my age category - annoyingly when I checked the results number 2 and 3 were literally seconds ahead of me.

My boss was there, and got a PB, and a fellow IverunallthenornirnparkrunssoIhave member, and I run with a dog called Minnie club member also got a PB!. So I was delighted for them. Mu Minnie's first run in ages, so i was just glad to get round safely.

feetheart · 28/08/2016 08:35

Hello AwakeCantSleep - your Saturday mornings may never be the same again :)

Lovely day yesterday with lots of Team GB sports kit, some 2012 kit including banners and those Hi-5 pink foam hands, a teddy from Sydney 2000, a real Games Maker and a real GB athlete! Turns out one of our regulars won a bronze medal at this year's European Duathlon Championships - he ran in his kit but was hard to recognise as he wasn't pushing a buggy :o

FiftyNineOhEight · 28/08/2016 18:26

I was going up our (very small but you do it three times) hill yesterday and i heard a man's voice saying, "don't worry, we're nearly there, then it will be downhill once we're at the top". I assumed it was a father running with an under-11. But no. It was a man running with his dog Grin

Melanie do you and Minnie have those kinds of conversations? cinners how about you and yours? (disclaimer I know nothing about keeping a dog, but I do know that they speak woof instead of English)

Hi all, Rejoining this thread as I've been away far too long!!

I've enjoyed some tourism over the summer, Newark, Dalby Forest, Markeaton park and next week we are off to Peterborough. This week I managed my home parkrun for a change!! I'll catch up with the thread in a minute, off to rejoin the running one now!

FiftyNineOhEight · 28/08/2016 22:14

Hellllloooooooo kimmi lovely to see you Smile

Lol, I do have some words when we're running! Some commands (such as Straight On, if we see other dogs or distractions), and some jokey ones for the benefit of marshalls (Go Go Gadget Minnie! as we do the final sprint)

chutneypig · 29/08/2016 12:53

Been on tour here too, lost you all of my TIO so just wanted to say hello and I'll be back to read through all the news.

chutneypig · 29/08/2016 13:55

I've just been looking at the wiggle site - not sure what size to go for for my lovely 50th top. I'm a size 10 so was thinking of the small, it's the only one not in stock. Anyone have any advice?!

Blatherskite · 29/08/2016 17:34

The tops from Wiggle are quite large chutney. I am a 10 and my XS is plenty big enough. You can always return it if it's too small.

Blatherskite · 29/08/2016 17:36

There was a lot of posting pics of Tribesports shirts over other sports shirts when they first came out to show the sizes. Which top you already have fits you best? If I've got one too, I can take a picture of it with my XS for you

QuestaVecchiaCasa · 29/08/2016 17:59

I just got my red 50 shirt ('cause I didn't have anything red, white or blue to wear for #IAmTeamGB). I can confirm that they come up big. I would describe myself as size 8/10 so picked XS but it actually still feels quite baggy.

LittleG69 · 29/08/2016 18:05

blathers Beeston is my local run Smile

chutneypig · 29/08/2016 18:28

Ooo I'll give the xs a go then. I've not got any Tribesports yet to compare but if I can return it then I'm just off to see if they've still got any in stock Grin. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Blatherskite · 29/08/2016 18:29

I'd say that I'd say hi when I came back LittleG69 but I've done it now ;)

chutneypig · 29/08/2016 19:02

Safely ordered Grin, can't wait till Saturday! Only a few weeks until the next family 50th, I've already booked a spot tailrunning as I've got a HM the next day.

rosy71 · 29/08/2016 19:07

I am missing parkrun. I injured my foot, so had lots of time off. I then ran my 2 slowest ever parkruns & now I have broken my arm & can't run again. :( Looking forward to restarting soon!
