Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Marshalled in snow flurries today...couldn't feel my fingers by the end. But there was 100th event cake!

cinnamongreyhound · 11/02/2017 22:42

Yay for cake, bacon rolls and 50 runs!

I went today and ran but stuff that's going on at home meant I ended up crying and walking Sad finished in 30.55 and went home straight after. Oh well there's always next week!

FiftyNineOhEight · 12/02/2017 09:57

Oh Cinners sorry to hear that (((hugs for you)))

You were still faster than me!

MelanieCheeks · 12/02/2017 17:46

I'll just leave a pile of hugs here for anyone that needs one. ()()()()()

It was pretty cold all over - I popped by Belfast Vic and took some photos of really premier league serial tourists, but my fingers were freezing.

And no running today either, I really will have to force myself out ONE day!

MyBlackCat · 12/02/2017 19:41

I couldn't parkrun yesterday as husband away skiing and it was just me and the baby who is not yet big enough for the running buggy. In fact I've not run for 2 weeks due to illness and the little one. I miss parkrun Sad not sure I'll be able to go next week either.

cinners hope you are ok x

feetheart · 13/02/2017 11:46

Hugs for cinnamon.

I now want a 50 cloak for my 50th run later in the year hopefully :o

Well done to everyone who volunteered at the w/e, I must admit I was very glad to be running, you are all heroes :)
DS and I ran with friends at Telford - cold, snowy and my glasses misted up so I think it was a nice park. It was certainly busy!
That was No39 on my 'getting to 50 this year' challenge and No15 on DS's 'getting onto the tourist's list this year' challenge (I should get onto that by proxy as I am usually the transport!)
We are hoping to run Bushy parkrun on 25th March if anyone fancies a meet-up? A friend is running all the Greater London parkruns and this one is the day before his 50th birthday so we will have cake :)

cinnamongreyhound · 13/02/2017 14:03

Let me ask dh but I don't have any plans currently that weekend feetheart!

chutneypig · 13/02/2017 19:03

The Bushy plans sound exciting, hope you can make it cinnamon, you deserve a treat. We're hoping to get back there at some point is year.

Very well do enjoy to your DD Life!

Hope all those frozen fingers have warmed up.

I had my fastest run of the year at the weekend but still a way off from where I'd like to be. Felt good though, despite the flurries of snow.

Lifeisabeach · 14/02/2017 07:32

I did barcode scanning at junior parkrun on Sunday as DS wanted to run. The core team had bought a megaphone and were using it for the first time to do the run briefing (it's quite a big jp and they often have issues with people talking through the briefing - mainly parents from what I've seen!)

Just after the briefing had finished, a woman marched over to me and the other barcode scanner and ranted at us about how inconsiderate it was to be making a noise at that time on a Sunday morning, were we responsible, what did we think we were doing etc. Said she lived in a house opposite and the noise was unacceptable.

We did quite a good job of fending her off, saying we were volunteers and it's only for 5 minutes and it's for the kids etc. But she was really rude! She said she was going to speak to the run director, but we said we would pass on her comments, so she stropped off. The RD looked a bit upset when we told her- think they have to be really careful to comply with the park rules (it's on a university campus), and I think she was worried this woman would complain.

Probably the first and last outing for the megaphone :-(

cinnamongreyhound · 14/02/2017 07:54

You will always meet with opposition no matter what you do. It's easy to upset one person but impossible to keep everyone happy! I'm sure as the juniors have permission to be there it won't go anywhere. Not nice to be on the receiving end of it. We had a horrible runner literally screaming at our split marshal as she hadn't realised he was on his second lap and sent him for a third (despite the pre run briefing saying don't go round for a third) and runners really need to be responsible for their own number of laps. Anyway we could hear him from the finish so the rd went down to have a chat with him and rescue our poor volunteer. It's not acceptable no matter what, you can speak to people nicely and calmly!

feetheart · 14/02/2017 09:10

As cinnamon says you can't please everyone and most parkruns will have tales of runners or other park users not being happy at some point. You have written permission to be there (one of the first things parkrun insist on when you set up), are there for well under an hour in total every week and a megaphone doesn't carry that far and is very directional (so you could always find out where she lives and point the megaphone a different way)

cinnamongreyhound · 17/02/2017 13:31

Dh has bought some random piece of gum equipment from Haverhill so was thinking I could do a spot of tourism but they don't have one. Could go out of our way to go to Sudbury but that's a school field and although bury st Edmunds is on the way I've done it before Hmm

HalleLouja · 17/02/2017 14:39

Feet I am so sorry to hear your friend has died. What sad news. I saw our mutual chatty friend yesterday. He was on good form.

I haven't done parkrun in ages but ran with a friend from school this weekend and she loved it so will go back and run it with her. I was really slow but it's coming back.

HalleLouja · 17/02/2017 14:42

The kids have dons a few junior parkruns and enjoyed it. Have managed to sneak in a couple of volunteering opportunities too. Slowly getting more. Managed 3 recently including NYE.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/02/2017 14:45

Just seen that on ed page feetheart, so sorry Sad

Hi HalleLouja!

feetheart · 17/02/2017 22:47

Thank you, 37 is no age at all :(
I will have the hardest ever parkrun tomorrow, I just hope I do her proud.
We will be a sea of purple (for The Willow Foundation who provided an amazing special day for the family) and, hopefully, a cricket club full of cake :)

miked99 · 17/02/2017 22:49

The tide was out on the lagoon we run around in Curl Curl parkrun , so not the most pleasant smell this morning. Still that's number 49 done for my son and I , and next week it the 200th run on the course , so hopefully we'll get some cake to accompany our 50th.

Good luck to everyone today

HalleLouja · 18/02/2017 06:32

Feet she was on RMR so shared the parkrun post on there. Not sure if that was appropriate but people are going to wear purple in honour of your friend. The did chat to her a few times on there. Also it was shared on the Arrows page and they are coming too. I am away and have no purple but will also do parkrun today.

chutneypig · 18/02/2017 06:40

I saw on RMR Halle so wanted to say to feet that I'll be thinking of you all today.

HalleLouja · 18/02/2017 16:04

Hope it went as well as could have done feet.

So I took the husband to parkrun and ran his pace which is slow as he doesn't run and he still managed less than 35 minutes. Would have been quicker but took a while to start. He even tried to out sprint me. He used to be able to run 10k in 40 minutes. Anyway he wants to go again.

feetheart · 18/02/2017 16:39

No problem about sharing Halle - I was only slightly unsure about the photo I used but it does make me laugh :o
The one I used on our FB page this morning just makes me happy (and very sad too at the moment)

Today was the hardest thing I have ever had to do but I said what I wanted to say without losing it and the support from our amazing parkrun just blew me away. We had a sea of 330 purple and maroon runners, smashing our attendance record by over 50, the minute's applause was incredible and the cricket club was rammed. I am incredibly sad and incredibly proud all at the same time.
I really hope everyone else's parkruns were less eventful today :)

Lifeisabeach · 18/02/2017 17:50

So sorry about your friend, Feet, I've seen lots on FB about her, including a video of the applause this morning. So she has definitely been in many people's thoughts today. Looks as though you did her proud, but must have been incredibly hard for you Flowers

DS ran with me today as OH has man flu, and he dragged me round to a PB of 29.26. I never thought I'd manage under 30 on my home course so I'm pleased.

Back to junior parkrun tomorrow to marshall, so we'll see whether there have been any repercussions from complainer-lady last week. They've put on the FB page that there will be an important safety announcement at 9.20am that they want everyone to attend, so I'm wondering whether they're going to insist on quiet during the briefing, since they probably can't use the megaphone again.

FiftyNineOhEight · 19/02/2017 11:29

feet what terribly sad news but well done for holding it together. I ran at home yesterday but we were thinking of you as people had seen the FB post.

Good to see you Halle!

Waves to everyone else, will catch up properly later when I have a bit more time.

My Friday was a disaster! Poorly baby, broken car, very ill cat and more news from my stepson which wasn't very kind. I was way to delicate to run Saturday so I didn't parkrun. We equalled our non nyd record though and despite someone dropping 70 tokens Shock all went well.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/02/2017 12:35

Who's parkrunning tomorrow? I'm tail runner so I can wuss out and will be running afterwards but only 6 as next weekend is my hm Shock
