Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

That must have been lively random!

Well done MyBlackCat, I'm in awe of you especially with that hill!

It was balmy our way too, also was last week I don't know how we missed the chill. I still wore my jacket though Grin. I did have to shed it at one point. It wasn't my best run but did manage the last km the fastest so I'll take that.

No rain is a definite bonus cinnamon, is it fairly sheltered with the trees though? I'm guessing trees from the forestry bit!

cinnamongreyhound · 29/01/2017 14:03

Probably less than half is under trees and the finish is all open!

randomsabreuse · 29/01/2017 14:11

Was definitely lively - she's got less co-operative as she's got older! Looking forward to going back to running next week - so much easier!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/02/2017 12:54

We had a bit of a crisis for an rd this week but we're sorted, one good thing about not being ed it wasn't my problem. Trouble is I have all the stuff so was getting worried I'd have to do 2 weeks in a row which would have made things difficult at home.

We're starting to think about our 4th birthday, best idea so far is flowers and fruit which is apparently for 4th anniversary.

MelanieCheeks · 02/02/2017 07:26

Oh dear, just watching the weather prospects for the weekend - snow forecast for Saturday!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/02/2017 16:15

We have a massive storm forecast for Friday night 😱

feetheart · 03/02/2017 20:54

We did have a massive Friday night storm forecast a few days ago but it seems to have disappeared now, meaning I don't have to do a crack of dawn course inspection in the morning - result :).
Looks like 3C and light cloud at 9am at the moment so high numbers again I think if the last 4 weeks are anything to go by.
I'm RD and plan to deliver the run briefing in haikus (DS and I got bored one day and it developed from there :D)

cinnamongreyhound · 03/02/2017 21:56

We look good for tomorrow too now

miked99 · 04/02/2017 02:09

I lost at scissors paper rock, so we were tourists at Mosman today along with a surprisingly large British contingent for 3 laps along the shoreline with a steep hill at the turnaround for our troubles.
I ran ok, as did my son but he was happier about catching some pokemon at the end, than his result - I wish I could be blase about being fast.
Going to see Guns n Roses next Friday night so we'll have the week off from Parkrun

MelanieCheeks · 04/02/2017 07:29

Hope that Feetheart's brief
Is listened to intently
By all the runners

Weather seems OK here, no sign of snow or ice, even the rain has stopped! Heading to a close-by run this morning with some friends - the age-cat record should theoretically be achievable (ie I've run faster in a different age group, but that was more than a year ago and I haven't done any training this week), but I have a dance filming session this evening, so getting round safely will be number 1 priority.

Oh, and I appeared briefly on the little segment on parkrun shown on last night's local magazine TV programme!

FiftyNineOhEight · 04/02/2017 10:29

Grin melanie

No parkrun from this week, but I did fit in a short run last night - about 4.4 K by the map, but I forgot my garmin. Hope to be back next weekend, and that you all had good runs this morning.

Clever Haikus!

Back from parkrun. Still can't run all the way up the long hill but getting closer. Still not the same speed as anyone which is annoying as it's much easier to keep going with people around you. Can't do next week as we're in a parkrun black hole but might go to local (flat) run's birthday...

randomsabreuse · 04/02/2017 11:25

Got a PB. My first PB at my chosen home park run. Not my best ever parkrun time as that was set on the flat but a pb none the less. Very motivating! Also PB by more than 30 seconds!

MyBlackCat · 04/02/2017 13:05

No parkrun for me today, been ill last few days, got up and had breakfast but when I was just about to get dressed I had to run to bathroom to be sick Shock decided I best go back to bed. Baby poorly too so we are having sofa snuggles Smile

Lifeisabeach · 04/02/2017 13:36

I ran with DD and her friend and they chatted the whole way round. Slightly galling to be beaten by a man who ran the whole 5k facing backwards!! We asked him why as he passed us and he said he's doing a half marathon running backwards so is in training!

DS and I did pre-event set up and the RD said she had been on the verge of cancelling due to lack of volunteers. She said the same during the briefing and apparently quite a few signed up to help over the next few weeks.

There was an unaccompanied 9 year old running this morning - his mum finished about 5 mins behind him. He's in the year above DS at school and is very tall so I'm guessing the RD won't have realised his age. Not sure whether it's worth saying anything - bit annoying for those of us who follow the rules though!

needyounow · 04/02/2017 19:15

We had a busy parkrun again today, only about 10 people short of our record. And amazingly we didn't lose any finish tokens. I found it really tough today but managed a good time so I'm happy.

life I would say something as like you say not fair on those who follow the rules and could be a health and safety issue if anything were to happen.

Bkack hope you are feeling better now.

random well done on your PB.

megletthesecond · 04/02/2017 21:37

Backwards Shock life.

My first parkrun in a while today. Didn't push myself too hard, it was busy so there wasn't much space for the first ten minutes.

feetheart · 04/02/2017 23:09

Nice one Melanie :)
Haikus went down well and a few have taken up the challenge to say how their run went in a haiku on our FB page. Currently part-way through a haiku run report - this may be taking it too far!

Lifeisabeach - (wearing my ED hat) definitely say something to someone. It is a big part of parkrun's insurance that under-11s are accompanied and, as you say, bl**dy annoying and unfair on everyone who keeps to the very simple rule.
The backwards thing must be catching, DS and his friend want to do a fundraising backwards parkrun soon - I'm thinking 'safety marshals' will be added to the roster!

Well done everyone who ran (and boo to germs that kept people away :( )
randomsabreuse a PB is a PB wherever it is run, well done.

We are in Ironbridge next week so DS and I will be at Telford parkrun (#15 of DS's attempt to get to 20!) Isn't there someone on here who runs there?
Before that I have a date with polar bears and penguins during a 10k in Central London tomorrow - London Winter Run anyone?

MyBlackCat · 05/02/2017 12:42

feet I did a tourism run at Telford a couple of weeks ago - really enjoyed it, a big loop and little loop, downhill from start but uphill for last bit, I actually felt there was more downhill than uphill, flat most of the way in between. It was very cold and foggy so I couldn't see much, plenty of parking close by and lots of options for post run breakfast Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 06/02/2017 07:12

Brilliant pb randomsabreuse!

Get well soon myblackcat and myblackkitten

Definitely tell someone lifesabeach, you may find the rd had noticed while doing results but it's your parkrun they're risking.

Oooo the winter 10k feetheart, exciting! How was it?

I didn't go as a trade off for my friends 50th birthday 5k Sunday. Was wonderful 5k time trial, 24 runners and lots of cake afterwards. Ran 5k at 11 with the dogs Saturday not quite the same! We had 101 so over 100 all year so far Smile

MelanieCheeks · 08/02/2017 18:08

Great cake!

No parkrun for me this week, as I have a dance thing. But there's a few parkrun tourists visiting Belfast Victoria, which isn't too far form my dance thing, so I'll pop along beforehand and say hi/ take photos etc.

GypsyFl0ss · 08/02/2017 18:12

I made it back to volunteering at ours last Saturday , scanning at the finish . It was fab to be back and see everyone having a blast, was pretty chilly standing around though! Another 5 weeks until I can run Sad

needyounow · 11/02/2017 08:48

No parkrun for me today...driving conditions not great so not worth the risk of trying to get there. Too far to walk and taking bus isn't an option as I would need to get two/three depending on timings. Sad
Hope every has a good run today and the weather is ok where you are.

FiftyNineOhEight · 11/02/2017 09:53

DSs changed their various plans so I didn't make it as far as Doncaster bit did manage tourism at Kettering in sleety rain. Now warming up in the cafe with a bacon roll.

My baby girl did her 50th today! She ran with my friend as I was asked to be tail runner at the last minute - someone else didn't turn up.
