Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Oh Cinnamon that's sad :(

miked99 · 21/01/2017 04:58

First of all hope the weather has improved in the UK, I didn't realise it was that bad until I read everyone's posts.
Also I want to echo everyone else's best wishes on your comeback Steppe, knees are complicated joints so don't push yourself too hard and commiserations Cinnamon I'm sure all your parkrunners are very grateful for the hard work you put in.

Another big turnout at my local parkrun today, so the resolutions are being kept. I'm on 48 runs with my son is on 46, so I'll have to stop being scanned next week so that we can get 50 together just before his 10th birthday. We both think we ran well today (he thinks he got a PB), but there's a technical problem loading the results, so we'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out. It's unbearable !

PostTruthEra · 21/01/2017 10:50

Well done runners! Good work!

Can you tell I marshalled for the first time today?! The baby was so well behaved and slept for the hour, and I really enjoyed it. Dh isn't working next weekend so I can run again.

Park run is such a lovely event. It was quite nice being up and out early on a frost and sunny morning.

Hope everyone else had a good time. Smile

randomsabreuse · 21/01/2017 11:51

Back and impatiently awaiting results email. Was very cold but course in good condition. Only 3 "naughty" walk breaks to add to the 2 essential to avoid a very muddy face plant ones. Knowing the course definitely helps as it's a great feeling getting to the highest on the 2nd lap!

Was actually in traffic for the first pre loop.

Need to volunteer next week as DH is working so I have 18mo to deal with and the course is not pushchair friendly...

randomsabreuse · 21/01/2017 12:17

Drat missed pb by 13 seconds. Felt sure I'd run faster so either I run slower uphill than I walk (highly possible) or the dip of doom was muddier and slippier. My position was marginally better so possibly it was conditions...

FiftyNineOhEight · 21/01/2017 12:28

It was freeeeeezing today and a bit slippery underfoot. Lovely to have visitors Smile feet, minifeet, lego and another MNer who I don't think posts on this thread. I ran with a fast friend who was on a go-slow today and took over a minute off my recent times.

cinners I have seen with my own eyes what a wonderful parkrun community you have created and although it must be really hard to hand it over to others, you can be proud of what you did.

sabre it sounds like it was the conditions and that you did the sensible thing!

I won't be running for the next few weeks, but will look forward to popping into this thread and seeing how you are all doing.

Mike very noble you to not get scanned so that DS can catch up!

PostTruthEra well done for volunteering. it gives you such a good insight into the other side of parkrun doesn't it.

I did a tourist run at Telford parkrun today. It was -3 when I left the house and it warmed up to -1 for the start. It was foggy and as I don't run with gps watch I had no idea how far I had ran or how much further I had to go. So I was shocked when I got my result with over a minute off last weeks time (albeit a different course) Grin I can't believe how quickly I have got my form back. Still 3 mins off a PB but nearly 4 mins quicker than my first post baby run just before Christmas. Another pbpb Smile and my car said it was still -1 when I got back to it so a sub zero run. It's was a record turnout of 555 and I'd recommend the course, really enjoyed it.

Well done to everyone who got out in the cold weather.

Lifeisabeach · 21/01/2017 19:52

Freezing here too and I ran with DD and her friend, who chatted the whole way round with not much focus on running! Was good to get DD back to parkrun though, only 3 to go until she hits 50. Several local runs were cancelled because of ice, so we had quite a few tourists.

Miloarmadillo1 · 21/01/2017 22:50

Very cold but sunny run this morning - lovely. Equalled my PB last week of 32.57, nothing if not consistent. First week volunteering next Saturday followed by working nearly every weekend in Feb - boo!

MelanieCheeks · 22/01/2017 08:47

New attendance record at ours, thanks to the first Walk*@parkrun* folks.

But a timer mix-up has jumbled some of the results. My time wasn't anywhere near a PB, but I feel for those who did want a correct time recorded.

Jellybean85 · 22/01/2017 09:31

Oh I'm so happy I've found this thread! I signed up for park run in November and I've been too shy to go! (Pathetic I know)
Seeing this makes me feel like I already know people there.
I will definitely make the leap for my first park run next weekend Grin

PostTruthEra · 22/01/2017 10:15

Jellybean Definitely go! There's so many ages and abilities. Even if you walk the whole thing, you won't be the only one.

Get your gear out the night before and go next Saturday. Let us know how you get on!

feetheart · 22/01/2017 14:53

Lovely trip to see 59, lego and the Bedford posse :)
Cold and a bit foggy but I was very pleased with my first sub-30 since July last year. And then we had tea, toast and lots of chat in the cafe afterwards and got back in time for gymnastics - perfect parkrun morning :D

First pacer event at ours next week which could be interesting.

MelanieCheeks · 22/01/2017 16:50

We have a pacing event last Saturday of every month - I like to do 30mins, which is comfortable for me, and there's usually a posse of newbies anxious to break that barrier.

But there'll be a camera crew at Antrim next week, so I might don my Burns-night tartan leggings and head there....Grin [haggis]

cinnamongreyhound · 22/01/2017 21:52

Definitely go jellybean85, you won't regret it!!

Glad you had several visitors fiftynineoheight, so sorry I couldn't be there!

Love hearing all yours stories, brilliant myblackcat and PostTruthEra*, it's brilliant to see people enjoying the running and volunteering.

I had a canicross race Saturday so missed parkrun. We've had a busy week This week, planning a new route (another rd and her hubby) and measuring it (a group of 3 rd's) and running it (me and 2 friends) as the forestry commission are doing works which they've assured us won't affect us but looking at their plans I think they will soon. All good fun!

chutneypig · 26/01/2017 06:29

Absolute kudos to you Melanie'for pacing, so many people find it useful but it must be a bit nerve wracking!

Third or fourthing the go jellybean, there's no better time to start than the next Saturday.

The new route sounds interesting cinnamon, keeps things lively!

My apricot jacket has arrived, can't wait to try it out!

feetheart · 27/01/2017 21:59

Just added numbers to 9 pacer vests - excited :o

miked99 · 27/01/2017 22:12

23 C in Sydney this morning with no breeze made for an uncomfortable run and a pizza last night probably wasn't a great idea either. Had lots to drink at the end, then went to a cafe and drank some more.
There's a fun run next week that goes through our usual parkrun so we have a dilemma choosing where to be tourists, our nearest alternative is very hilly which I loathe, but going to a flat course means getting up half an hour earlier, which my son hates. It's rock scissors paper time

cinnamongreyhound · 27/01/2017 22:13

Enjoy your pacer day feetheart, we tried one but only ended up with one pacer Sad

I'm rd tomorrow and it's going to rain but we will have fun!!!!

FiftyNineOhEight · 28/01/2017 05:03

Morning parkrunners!

jellybean I hope you enjoy your first parkrun this morning.

Hmmm hills or sleep - a tough choice mike

feet hope your pacer day goes well

chutney I love my apricot jacket. Indeed I am about to put it on. There is no parkrun where I am this weekend, but I am going running anyway. It is blooming freezing and I only brought short sleeved tops and capris as I was not anticipating how cold it was going to be.

I posted a while back about Doncaster. I am almost certainly going to be there in a couple of weeks because DS1 has a sporting event there that day. Has anyone been?

chutneypig · 28/01/2017 06:53

Enjoy it if you go today jellybean

Hope the pacing goes well today feet, sounds like you've got a lot of options for people.

Is it the altered course for you today cinnamon?

I've got to say miked I'd lose sleep over tackling hills in that heat any day. I'm still tickled to think you're all done and dusted and toasty warm too.

I've not tried Doncaster Fifty. I did try the jacket out Thursday night though on some hill reps. Loved it. Great fit and spacious pockets buts no bounce. It was cold too, definitely just the thing. It kept me very warm when I went to get the kids from athletics, well my top half at least, my legs were frozen!

Everyone enjoy their runs today.

FiftyNineOhEight · 28/01/2017 09:45

chutney I love my jacket. It was lightly snowing here for much of my run today but it kept me warm and dry.

Just back from volunteering with a tiny person in tow. Will try again next time DH is working. Was interesting to say the least - 18 month old tantrums because I carried her, because she wanted to walk in the stream, because I wouldn't let her sit in the puddle etc. Next time will get her organised for freedom before I get into position...

MyBlackCat · 28/01/2017 19:21

I was back at my local run today and completed it for the 50th time and my 72nd parkrun. I managed another pbpb - really surprising myself with my times.

I was all set to wear my apricot jacket (Christmas present from husband) but the rain held off so it wasn't required, had a last minute change to wear my 50 tshirt as it was warmer than I thought - tshirt was over base layer, it was a balmy 5 degrees Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 28/01/2017 21:48

It did feel much milder didn't it MyBlackCat!

We didn't use the alternative route chutneypig, forestry commission are being true to their word so far and our route is unaffected. And we didn't have any rain, yay!

I've had a day like that randomsabreuse! Getting towards the terrible twos I think, plus he's at the end of being poorly so not the easiest to pacify at the moment.
