Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Can anybody recommend a pair of decent thermal running tights, my Gore ones split last week (post xmas strain i think!)? Was looking at a pair of North Face but not sure...

feetheart · 14/01/2017 07:15

miked99 - from the sublime to the ridiculous -1C here at the moment and I'm about to go and scrape the car!
Then it's off to Bedford we go :)
Let's see what barcode scanning is like for 400+ runners.

needyounow · 14/01/2017 07:37

It is as freezing here too. Although luckily no more snow. I'm rubbish at running in the cold, I just seize up so definitely no PB for me today. Just hope my local run is still on. Good luck to everyone and hope you don't all freeze!

standingonlego · 14/01/2017 10:54

Argh!!! I thought our tourist jaunt trip to visit Bedford was NEXT week!!!!

Disaster! I will be gutted if I have missed everyone 😢

I ran my 100th local run today in my new 100 t shirt Smile 107 overall

MelanieCheeks · 14/01/2017 11:36

Many many cancellations across Norn Irn this morning! I headed to Belfast Victoria which was celebrating its 300th event, managed to slip and fall on the ice myself! They'd decided not to run their usual course as parts of it were like glass, so we did a 3 laps of the island, which was just shy of 5km. But we would all get a 59 time. Seemed like a good compromise to me - they had to have their 300th run, and this way everyone managed to stay safe (there's a small scrape on my knee, but I was OK to run).

Great cake and buns!

MyBlackCat · 14/01/2017 12:00

Lots of local runs to me were cancelled but our 2nd birthday went ahead Grin puddles were icey and frozen but we were all told to forget the pb's get round safe and enjoy the cake!

Well I enjoyed the cake and got round safe but I did knock over a minute off last weeks time Smile I totally bypassed the 28's with a 27:46 today so another pbpb Grin I should run in my pyjamas every week!

randomsabreuse · 14/01/2017 12:11

1st run on snow today - 1 inch of snow was grippier than the slightly icier bits. Was apparently nearly cancelled but only the uphill bits were icy. As a trail run I guess they can be more robust...

Pleased that I only walked where underfoot conditions required - was disappointed to be slower than last week but realistically I was much more careful on the downhill stretches and the downhill finish which would definitely account for more than 40 seconds. Much more prepared for the hills psychologically - it's nice knowing that where they end! Hopefully will manage a PB next time I'm there if the snow and ice can stay away!

PostTruthEra · 14/01/2017 12:36

Managed 2mins 30secs faster this week, and it was very muddy! Not sure what to do about next weeks run as DH is working so I have no one to watch the baby. Can't run with him because of the steps in my local park run. Might have to shamelessly ask a friend to push him round the park for me next week while I run.

Alternatively, could I volunteer with a baby in a pram? I guess I'll send an email.

Anyway, congratulations all who did it in the snow and ice!

FiftyNineOhEight · 14/01/2017 13:15

It is next week lego Grin. Mini feet just happened to be racing nearby later so Mommafeet and Minifeet volunteered today. They are coming back again next week to run Smile and Cake and Brew

Hooray, thank goodness for that fiftynine Smile

Well done to everyone who braved the cold today, chilly conditions all round

needyounow · 14/01/2017 15:28

Well so much for me being rubbish at running in the cold. I managed a PB which I hadn't even considered attempting due to slippy conditions. So so chuffed, never thought I would be able to run a 5k in this time. I love parkrun.
Hope you are ok melanie
Well done on your 100th local run lego

SocksRock · 14/01/2017 17:00

I ran my second ever parkrun and knocked 3min 5 seconds off last weeks time. And it was icy. Not bad for a fat lass :-)

MyBlackCat · 14/01/2017 17:44

socks you rock Grin well done!

MelanieCheeks · 14/01/2017 19:12

My knee and elbow are a bit painful, but the wine voltarol is helping, thanks.

randomsabreuse · 14/01/2017 19:39

Socks that's amazing. Am also fat and unfit and my times are going backwards... -but I have excuses-

Dry January means I don't have wine to comsole myself!

cinnamongreyhound · 14/01/2017 20:16

Brilliant SocksRocks!

Well done needyounow!

Great PostTruthEra! And yes you can volunteer with a baby, marshal would be perfect!

Amazing MyBlackCat!! And yay for pyjamas! We had tutu's for our second birthday, geddit?

Hope you're ok MelanieCheeks! We had to redirect our route today as the winds yesterday made a tree unsafe but it made it 0.02 shorter so we've just given everyone their times unless they complain. What was most annoying was the manager of the park (who ran last week) told me yesterday the path closures didn't affect our route Angry

Lifeisabeach · 15/01/2017 12:55

DS ran with me yesterday and got me a home course PB, just over 30 mins. I never thought I'd manage sub-30 at my home run as it's off-road with a couple of hills, but that is now in sight! The field was frozen so firm rather than muddy, and I think that helped me.

And my 50 shirt arrived in the post not long after we got back. Looking forward to wearing it next week Smile

SocksRock · 15/01/2017 13:21

Boast about my 4yo - she was 4 just before Christmas and did her first junior parkrun today - 2km in 19min11sec, weather was foul and she trotted along for almost all of it, with only a few walking bits. I will admit to heavy bribery in the form of promises of jelly babies at the finish line (which she got) but I think she did amazingly well :-)

sailinggirl1780 · 15/01/2017 21:19

Well done everyone, very impressed with all those running in the snow and ice!
I did my 4th local parkrun yesterday and got a PB of 26.06, desperate to get under 26 minutes so will aim for that next week. Found breathing from my stomach helped a lot, in fact did a 16k run this afternoon and hardly felt out of breath when I got back, weird! Was at a very gentle, non parkrun pace though!

Lifeisabeach · 15/01/2017 21:26

Well done to your DD, SocksRock 😀

chutneypig · 16/01/2017 06:41

Well done to you and your DD Socks!

That's great Life, pacing is good. Sounds like the cold weather helped.

You kept everyone safe cinnamon that's the important thing.

Hope you're feeling better Melanie

TriJo · 17/01/2017 09:37

Did my 20th at the weekend, 11th at Highbury Fields and set a 1 second buggy PB of 28:33. It's a little annoying because I wasn't even trying all that hard, if I'd known I was on buggy PB form I'd have given it more welly! My 9 month old was happily cheering in the buggy all the way around and seemed happy out :)

cinnamongreyhound · 17/01/2017 17:03

It's official I'm no longer ed Sad

parkrunners Assemble! DFYB for a run, not a race!
steppemum · 17/01/2017 17:15

Hello.
long time no see.
If you remember I injured my knee jan 2016, and I have been out of running since. Now knee is fine, and over Christmas I got such itchy feet that I have been back out running 3 times in the last 10 days!
Going very slowly, warming up well, they never got to the bottom of my knee injury and I am nervous about triggering it again.
After 5 months of no activity at all (the first half of the year I went swimming) I managed 4 km this morning.
I won't tell you the time, most of you could run a 10 km faster.

My original aim was 50 parkruns before my 50th birthday, now my new aim is to get back enough in shape to complete one parkrun. I daren't go too soon as I am a bit competitive and will chase the 40 pacer round and then do my knee again!

chutneypig · 18/01/2017 04:22

At least you were the right side of your PB TriJo, very well done indeed!

Oh cinnamon, that's hard. It wouldn't be what it is without you and what a difference you've made to your parkrunners lives Flowers

Welcome back steppe. Glad to hear your knee has improved and you're getting back out there. Much as it'd be good to get back to parkrun I think you're being very sensible not rushing,
