Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Happy new year parkrunners!

Did our home run yesterday with DS1 who was doing his 50th run. He dragged me round to a course PB of 31.06. Looking forward to being able to order his t shirt, hope they've got the kids ones in stock.

Had friends round last night and although I tried to go easy on the wine, none of us got to bed until 1am, including 21 month old DS2. I did set my alarm for 6 but thought it would be mean to wake them all up after so little sleep. So we didn't do the earlier one of the planned double, but did get to Forest of Dean for 10am. It was a really tough course, all forest trails with rocks and tree roots and loads of mud, so I found it really hard to get going - had to keep checking where I was putting my feet. Results haven't come in yet but I did it in around 32 mins.

So a double but not a triple for us Smile

feetheart · 01/01/2017 15:04

Lovely morning with a very low turnout for us at 9am (97 - only the second time in 20mths that we have gone under 100!) then a short trek to St Albans for DS to run the double and me to eat brunch :)
Great to see 59 too.

Happy New Year parkrunners :o

Quick question from a tentative newbie!

How many of you take DCs on Park Run? I can't get reliable childcare so would have to bundle DD, who is 1, into her pram and do it with her.

Is it very common? Or is it an annoyance to other runners?

Honeyandfizz · 01/01/2017 15:11

Did my first park run this morning, weather was dire but over 400 turned out. Have run for years but never quite got round to joining, came in 40th woman and dh was 8th! Really enjoyed it and what a wonderful atmosphere.

FiftyNineOhEight · 01/01/2017 15:15

Gerard we have several buggy runners (and used to have a double buggy runner until his DD1 got big enough to run by herself). They seem to start at the back and stay to the side for the first bit, then power through once the field has thinned out a bit. My home parkrun is in a classic Victorian park with wide smooth paths and not much of a hill so works well for buggies (and visually impaired runners). I can think of others (e.g. today's Tring horror) that wouldn't be as good Grin

I have huge respect for anyone who can push a buggy and a one year old around 5K! And they are definitely not an annoyance.

Thanks Fifty!

Think we will have to do a test run next weekend and see how we go on!

Knackerelli · 01/01/2017 15:29

gerard Most people just have respect for people that are not just running; they're pushing a buggy too! Hard work! I agree with checking the course first though, some include steps which would be a pain.

fiftynineoheight I've run at Tring as MIL lives there; it's really hard! Only done it once but I'm determined that it won't beat me!

Today was my 100th! Ran it with DD(8) and loved it. Despite the horrible weather, my friends all bought cakes, biscuits and flasks of coffee and hot chocolate! ( The cafe is normally open so we're not used to this.) Can't ask for a better way to start 2017!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/01/2017 15:49

Lucky you chutneypig!

Well done on the pb miloarmadillo1, 3 seconds is 3 seconds!

Me!!!!! I ran at 9am, went home swapped dogs, put my signs out and went down to start my home parkrun at 10.30, fabulous atmosphere (although I did shout and ask people to be quiet as no one could hear the rd and safety is so important!) and we smashed our attendance record with a whopping 226 runners!! Scanner was struggling with the wet and I ended up recording all the barcodes that wouldn't scan, 2 A4 pages! Dh and the boys came
Down to the cafe and we had breakfast with everyone while I slowly froze from being soaked in two runs and then standing around for too long! Lovely lovely parkrun morning!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/01/2017 15:50

Bugger, missed a whole page! Will
Go and read now!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/01/2017 15:57

Well done on the pb lifeisabeach and to minibeach for his 50th!

Not at all GerardNoWay, we have a very fast lady who runs alien when she can and is usually First Lady then runs with her 2yo in the buggy and 4 year old running in about 40mins. We have an American guy who runs with a double buggy every other week and a lovely lady who runs with her buggy and dog, those are our regulars and we are a trail course so it's vvvv tough with a buggy! parkrun is all about being inclusive and anyone who complains about buggys doesnt get parkrun and you should mention to the rd for the day.

Welcome to the parkrun family Honeyandfizz!

Well done Knackerelli!

MyBlackCat · 01/01/2017 16:03

Very wet windy and cold this morning but I did it Grin well done to everyone that ran, huge respect to those doing doubles in this weather

chutneypig · 01/01/2017 17:12

It wasn't great weather our way was it MyBlackCat Grin. I've just about warmed up now.

Congratulations on your 100th Knackerelli and to Life's DS. Fingers crossed for the tops, I've usually found they've had a good range of sizes for the kids.

We've some very fast buggy runners right through the range at most of our local runs Gerard. I'm always amazingly impressed. Especially at the hilly course.

Sounds lovely cinnamon, glad you were able to get out. I get so frustrated when people aren't quiet at the start. We had one owner with a dog today at both runs (same person) where the dog was barking so loudly I literally couldn't hear a word from the RD. I missed most of the first briefing too, but it's so important at this time of year especially with lots of tourism going on.

welcome Honeyandfizz

Lovely that Fifty and feet met up too!

steffibabes · 01/01/2017 20:38

Hello fellow parkrunners, been enjoying reading how you've got on. I did some parkrun tourism this weekend- usually run at Hillsborough but was in Bristol at my sister's and therefore did Pomphrey Hill yesterday. Didn't manage today as we were on our way back home. Love that you can just rock up at any event and experience a different course. It's got me thinking that i need to try some other courses especially as there are 5 in Sheffield alone. Watch this space!

FiftyNineOhEight · 01/01/2017 21:14

steffi I was thinking the same today, going from Victorian park to trail in the space of an hour.

It was not too bad her weather-wise, the rain held off until I was finishing my second parkrun, despite pouring down on the way to see feet it stopped for the run.

Well done on your double cinners and on your 100 Knacker and minibeach on his 50.

And happy birthday MyBlackCat!

cinnamongreyhound · 06/01/2017 12:21

Who's running tomorrow? I'm doing 3 miles before and then parkrun to begin my hm training.

Lifeisabeach · 06/01/2017 12:34

We are planning to do our home run. Not liking the rain that's pouring down at the moment, could mean a lot of mud tomorrow.

I'm trying to do a run every day in January run-streak and have stuck to it so far. Some days I'm only doing a mile but I'm also doing cycling or swimming on those days too. My legs are feeling it today!

Lifeisabeach · 06/01/2017 12:35

Oh and DS' 50 t-shirt arrived yesterday. He's taken it to school today to show off, I'm just hoping he brings it back home!!

MelanieCheeks · 06/01/2017 17:20

One of the UK parkrun tourist guys is running at Queens tomorrow, so I'll don my cow cowl and join him there. Have sewn the latest button onto my "IverunallthenornirnparkrunssoIhave" T shirt for photographic porpoises.

And I've persuaded a work colleague to try her first parkrun tomorrow!

FiftyNineOhEight · 06/01/2017 18:50

Well done on your running streak life. I have signed up online for a 31 day yoga thing and have done every day so far. I had my regular class today with a sub teacher who was deceptively gentle. My legs hurt already and I still have the other one to do. Congrats to your DS. I will be sporting my purple top tomorrow under my apricot jacket.

Melanie well done on the extra button!

Enjoy your extra miles cinners

Wow life that's impressive. I'm parkrunning in my new parkrun t-shirt.

PostTruthEra · 06/01/2017 22:52

Hello, I'm going to do my first park run tomorrow since I found out I was pregnant this time last year. Got my gear out and ready, barcode printed and playlist sorted. Dh is going to walk the baby round the park while I do it so I can feed before and after if needed. Really excited to give it a go, but a bit nervous about realising how bad my fitness has got! I love running but it's been a while.

miked99 · 06/01/2017 23:05

Morning all,
there was a big turn out at our local parkrun this morning, so I'm guessing there are a few new year resolutions involved.
I was pretty hopeless, despite wearing lots of new things I got for Christmas - there's no substitute for talent and effort.
Hope you all have a good run today

FiftyNineOhEight · 07/01/2017 08:26

Morning runners!

Thank you for your report mike I love hearing from you before heading out.

Enjoy your return to parkrun PostTruthEra.

Cold and damp here. But as it's the first Saturday of the month we have breakfast club to look forward to.

Park run done this morning, only my second at my local one and my 4th in total. Many more faces than previously which was nice. Ground was very muddy today, will be interesting to see the results. Fitbit said 26:37 so we'll see. Feeling good so just took the dog out for another 5k (at a slower pace) Grin
