Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

life I'm glad I'm not the only one who shouts at their watch. Grin It's infuriating when it's the first time you have sat down all day or like you say have already done a run.

chutneypig · 13/11/2016 09:13

I wondered how accurate the sleep was needyounow, I have to put my Fitbit now into sleep mode. Not the biggest deal though! Thank for the pic too Life, looks good. Can't wait till Christmas Grin

Makes sense Purple! I saw a new juniors is starting today at Moors Valley. Very jealous!

Well done london hope you have hot water soon!

londonmummy1966 · 13/11/2016 12:18

Thanks chutney - now have water bu still no heating.....

fluffiphlox · 13/11/2016 12:32

Didn't make it yesterday but went out for a run this morning as penance. It was hard work- legs like lead! Why/how does that happen?

PurplePidjin · 13/11/2016 20:42

Ooh, they've started? I was wondering about it but at barely 4 I think he's too young to go off on his own for 15-20 minutes and it's a 30 minute drive. So we'll go to juniors when he's older and stick to a supervised yomp across the forest for now I think

Medals sound awesome, hope you get your heating back soon London

cinnamongreyhound · 14/11/2016 21:32

Nevemind chutneypig, pbs aren't everything!

The first one is the toughest steffibabes then you start to settle into the community Grin

My Fitbit is the opposite needyounow, it often has me awake when I'm pretty sure I've been sleeping. You can tap it when you want sleep to start and I think it becomes more sensitive but I never do that. Ah I see chutneypig does though.

Ah that's lovely Blatherskite!!!

My parkrun was very wet and cold and I nearly coughed up a lung! I was there though even if it did take me over 31mins Sad

MelanieCheeks · 16/11/2016 18:16

We were very lucky last Saturday in Norn Irn, and had a very cold but crisp and dry morning.

I've got me strategy head on for this weekend - there's another age-cat record I think I could have a crack at!

cinnamongreyhound · 16/11/2016 22:35

Oh how I long for any catergory of any kind MelanieCheeks Wink

We've got 7C and sunshine forecast at the moment for Saturday morning.

chutneypig · 17/11/2016 06:43

How exciting Melanie, good luck. I have to rely on the DC on that front. The only way I'd even get first in category on the day is if by some freak of happenings I was the only one there Grin

Most of our younger juniors run with their parents Purple but not all. Mind you, it's probably not dissimilar to your winter course I guess.

i like the Fitbit to competitively prove I've had the worst nights sleep Grin

MavisGrind · 17/11/2016 11:52

Good luck Melanie!
It's 3 degrees and cloudy forecast here so far on Saturday.

In another whose Fitbit is convinced I don't sleep Hmm Mind you it might explain why I'm constantly knackered!

MyBlackCat · 17/11/2016 19:33

I was supposed to be bar code scanning on Saturday but I no longer will be as in the early hours in Monday morning I gave birth to a little boy. He was four weeks early but doing well and we will be home tomorrow Smile

So I ended up running parkrun 3 weeks before birth and was volunteering just 36 hours before labour - is there a t-shirt for that?Wink

Now optimistically hoping to make it back for a NYD parkrun Hmm

Lifeisabeach · 17/11/2016 19:50

Oh wow, MyBlackCat, congratulations and well done to you, and welcome to your little parkrunbaby! His early arrival must have been a bit of a shock. Glad to hear he's doing well and that you'll both be home soon Smile Flowers

needyounow · 17/11/2016 20:12

Congratulations cat fantastic news. That definitely deserves a special T shirt. Flowers

MavisGrind · 17/11/2016 20:21

Many congratulations MyBlackCat - did he remember to bring his barcode? Grin There should be an orange babygro at the very least!

chutneypig · 17/11/2016 20:56

Oh congratulations MyBlackCat, that's one way to avoid what's looking like a very chilly Saturday round here Smile Not the day for scanning! Well done you and enjoy getting home tomorrow.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/11/2016 21:48

Ah congratulations MyBlackCat!!! I thought I'd be off to ages but I was back at parkrun after 4 weeks so it can be done. 4 weeks early is a bit of a shock!

MelanieCheeks · 18/11/2016 06:55

Lovely news, Myblackcat, definitely need a special T shirt! Flowers [Tshirt]

swampytiggaa · 18/11/2016 20:00

Congratulations! A parkrun baby! Hope you are feeling well :)

PurplePidjin · 18/11/2016 20:51

Congratulations MyBlackCat and welcome to parkrun MyBlackKitten

steffibabes · 19/11/2016 07:09

Here we go, I get to wear my new running shoes today!

MavisGrind · 19/11/2016 07:28

Enjoy your run all. We're missing it today, dcs are knackered and it's snowing!

chutneypig · 19/11/2016 11:21

Did you go for the record Melanie? DD was after one today and smashed it. Amazing what she can do when she's not running with me Grin. I really struggled and nearly dropped out. DS was very encouraging so I felt even worse!

How did everyone else get on?

londonmummy1966 · 19/11/2016 12:42

Brilliant news blackcat. I was chatting to a tourist from Sheffield beforehand who was down because she had a new granddaughter (with a parkrunning mother)!
How was it Melaniecheeks?
Absolutely freezing here today - I nearly rolled over and had a lie in. Really glad I didn't though as I got another PB - 29.14!! New target is to get it to start with a 28......

Lifeisabeach · 19/11/2016 13:22

Freezing cold run for us today too. DD spent the first 2.5 laps complaining that her feet hurt from being so cold. Must look at warmer socks and leggings for her. She toughed it out and came in just under 34 mins, which is where we consistently seem to be at the moment. A bit off her PB but not bad considering how slippery and cold it's getting.

DS didn't run today as he's got a bad cough. OH was 2 seconds off his PB.

A group of ladies from my running club have just completed a 10 week beginner running course and did parkrun today as the culmination, so that was nice to see. Love parkrun!

MelanieCheeks · 19/11/2016 15:33

It was a frosty start! Had to de ice the car, and a couple of nearby parkruns were cancelled. But I thought, no guts no glory!

Set off on a blue sky autumn leafy journey, and was pleased to find the course was runable. There are quite a few forest trails on this one which are more winter proof.

The time I had to beat was 28.06. It was tough enough running at that pace in the chilly air, and I had to hold back on the downhill sections for fear of slipping. And half way round the second lap I had to stop and tie a wayward shoelace!

But I persevered, and managed to cross the finish line in 26.55. Had to wait for the official email to make sure I was first in my age group.....and yay, there I am, top of the table! I can't wait to see the parkrun uk " new age category records this week", especially as Armagh is near the start of the alphabet. [ridiculously smug face ]

Well done especially to volunteers this week in that arctic temperature.
