Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

MelanieCheeks, I saw that post after reading you'd been to Camperdown and had wondered if it was you! Being new to the thread though I thought it looked a bit stalkery to comment Grin
Forecast is grim for Saturday morning here, going to play it by ear #fairweatherrunner

MelanieCheeks · 10/11/2016 19:39

I write and share a public blog on parkruns, so no need to feel stalkery! Smile

It's ages since I've run at my home event, so I'm probably for there this week. Then working out how I can do my 150th on the day we are having the pakrun Christmas do.....CakeWine

Lifeisabeach · 10/11/2016 20:36

How do I find your blog Melanie?

Heavy rain is forecast here for Saturday morning. Our course gets very muddy and slippery in the winter, but it's been so dry recently that it's been fine so far. Not much chance of a PB once the mud sets in!

My birthday present of a new Garmin watch/activity tracker arrived yesterday (late because Amazon lost the first one!), so I took it out for a run tonight. It seemed to make me go faster! I'm loving all the stats - it has a heart rate monitor and also tells me how long I slept for and how much I was awake overnight (which thanks to DS2, was quite a lot!)

chutneypig · 10/11/2016 20:54

Which one did you get Life? I've been looking at the vivoactive HR. I do like stats Grin

That sounds logistical fun Melanie

Weather looks grim here too. We're aiming for five parkruns in five weeks and PBs at all. We've all managed it the last three weeks but don't want to break the streak by running through a bog, so will have to be strategic in our course choice.

Lifeisabeach · 10/11/2016 21:04

That's the one Chutney, the vivoactive HR. Good luck with your PB streak Smile

MelanieCheeks · 10/11/2016 21:04

My blog is called Dancingatlunacy. You can google that, or you can click on the link to Camperdown on the previous page, which will take you to that blog entry. From there are tags to other "parkrun" entries, and a link to the summary page of all those I've done at the end of each parkrun write up.

(There are other entries, mostly recipes, travel, and the odd dancer thing! )

needyounow · 10/11/2016 22:02

I have the vivoactive HR aswel. It's great, I got a bit too addicted reaching my step goals at first but am mire relaxed about it now. Definitely helps with my running as can easily keep track of my lap times which spurs me to push harder.
I am hoping to parkrun thus weekend, have missed the last few weeks due to other commitments and lack of time which is a pain. It takes me over an hours traveling each way which does eat in to my available free time.
Good luck to everyone for Saturday.

cinnamongreyhound · 11/11/2016 10:03

I've not heard of a vivoactive.

Should be running st home tomorrow, forecast isn't too bad here.

MyBlackCat · 11/11/2016 12:18

I'm marshalling tomorrow - looks like it will be a wet one Shock

chutneypig · 12/11/2016 05:34

It's tipping down here and I've been awake since four. My enthusiasm is dwindling! Wrap up well MyBlackCat

How do you find the fit for the vivoactive? Does it look huge?

Glad you're getting a home run cinnamon

MyBlackCat · 12/11/2016 07:37

DH (who takes one of his schools rugby team) and I are currently discussing arguing over who gets the large umberella Shock I'm sure I've got a poncho somewhere, I may look a dick but at least I'll be a dry one Smile

needyounow · 12/11/2016 07:51

Chutney
There is a newer version which is longer and narrower. My friend has this one, it did look big to start with nut she Is used to it now.

I have the model before which is ok, again took a little while to get used to but love it now. Here's a pic on my wrist if that helps at all.

Grrr, just wrote a post and then it got lost. Hello everyone I did my first parkrun last week. Can't do today (well technically I could but then I'd have to sit in a room full of people un showered which I don't think is a good idea). I finished 275th out of 285. Bought some running shoes yesterday so my feet will feel better next week. Good to meet you all.

MelanieCheeks · 12/11/2016 08:33

Welcome along, Steffibabes! Do come back next week and tell us how it went Smile

MavisGrind · 12/11/2016 11:11

Morning all. 20 seconds from a new PB but at least I made it out in the rain!
Hope everyone had a good run/marshall this morning.

chutneypig · 12/11/2016 12:05

Thanks needyounow, the pic is very handy, the ads rarely show them on!

Big welcome steffibabes. New shoes are always good Smile

That's not far off in the rain Mavis well done.

Failed on the PB streak, all down to me. Wet trail is not my favourite surface Grin. DS opted to run with me so only DH got a PB today. The kids looked great in their 50 tops, got lots of lovely comments from people. Two ladies were looking back as we neared the last corner and jokingly were saying we were catching them up so sped up a bit. I let the twins go as we went round the corner and they raced past, I'd been struggling to contain them the whole way round. To be fair, theyre very good and keep close but I could see they were reining in it.

chutneypig · 12/11/2016 12:06

Wasn't too wet in the end for us, how did you get on MyBlackCat?

MyBlackCat · 12/11/2016 13:09

It wasn't too bad chutney wasn't actually raining at the start just lots of moisture in the air, came on though but nothing too bad, only 81 today - not helped by weather and a local trail race. I'm on bar code scanning next week - a new role for me Grin

MyBlackCat · 12/11/2016 13:10

Well done everyone on getting out and running today Smile

needyounow · 12/11/2016 18:08

Welcome Steff and good luck for next week.

Well done Mavis very close

No problem Chutney the watch definitely helps with motivation just a shame I have too much going in at the moment to really use it properly. I would say say sleep not completely accurate, if I'm lying in bed reading it thinks I'm asleep for example. Worth the money though.
Well done on your run today, you can aim for that next PB next week. Good luck.

We were dry today but I really struggled although my time was ok. Anyone got any advice on avoiding stitches? Had hoped to clear my head whilst running but found I was having to concentrate on the run too much then the stitch kicked in again. Sad

standingonlego · 12/11/2016 18:24

No parkrun for me today, but it was brilliant as I staggered across the finish line at my HM to see blathers with a hug and a medal Smile

Blatherskite · 12/11/2016 19:07

No parkrun for me as I was hanging around in a field with a medal just in case lego popped by Wink

I may not have run but I was out and seeing running friends though which is a big-ish step for me. I think running would have been less tiring though! I was there at 7.30 and spent 2 hours out in the rain marking out the start and first mile. Thankfully it dried out before the event started which meant that we did too. Finally left for home at about 1.30 and after de-frosting myself in the shower and something to eat, I ended up having a nap for a couple of hours. Being cold and on your feet for hours is hard work!

Legos was in fact the ONLY medal I gave out all day. It wasn't even supposed to be my job but I couldn't resist Grin

londonmummy1966 · 12/11/2016 19:15

Well done everyone - especially lego. Absolutely chucking it down this morning. A good turn out and I managed to scrape in under the magical 30 mins even though I was going slow as there were so many soggy mulchy leaves under foot and I didn't want to slip on them. By the time I'd walked home I was soaking wet and very cold - guess who's having a new boiler and hot water tank put in so no heating and no water..............

Lifeisabeach · 12/11/2016 20:42

We were asked to wear red for remembrance today and most people did. The rain had pretty much stopped by the time we got going, but the course was quite muddy and slippery in places. Apparently the bloke who came in first wiped out spectacularly in the mud while lapping OH and DS. DD did well today and I'm hoping she'll want to keep running even though the weather has gone downhill. It was her 41st run today so hopefully the incentive of a 50 shirt will keep her going over the winter.

Chutney I've got the newer version of the Vivoactive and have tried to attach a pic. I took it swimming last night and it counted the laps accurately. If I sit down for too long it vibrates and tells me to "MOVE!" - I have to shout at it that I ran 5k this morning!

Well done, brave people! Dh was going to take both boys again today for his 50th but 3yo don't do well in the rain so we went to McDonald's instead Blush we're away next week, and he could do it then, but we've decided to save it for the week after - and have ds1s wristband presented to him at briefing as it'll be his first official one as a 4yo! I can't wait, it'll be his final birthday surprise Grin
