Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Flowers for you Melaniecheeks especially as I am sure it was far colder in Armagh than it was in Brixton....

steffibabes · 19/11/2016 16:06

I got a pb 37.01. Very grateful for my friends who look after dd so I can run.

londonmummy1966 · 19/11/2016 16:22

Well done steffi they are so gratifying...

standingonlego · 19/11/2016 16:39

Back pg thread after a week away... and what a lot has happened! Huge congrats to blackcat and a big unmumsnetty hug to blathers for be super special - I had no idea I was the one person you "medalled" Grin

standingonlego · 19/11/2016 16:42

Well done to those who braved the slippy slidey conditions this morning, it was gorgeous and sunny but so tricky underfoot in our pArk. An even bigger well done for those getting a PB as well !

needyounow · 19/11/2016 17:38

I struggled from the start today but managed to keep going. Was just 2 seconds slower than my slowest time so was quite chuffed with that considering it was so cold and frosty. One lovely guy ran his 50th and brought cake so that helped at the end! Grin

Well done everyone for going out in the cold.

steffibabes · 19/11/2016 18:03

Thanks londonmummy I was well chuffed.

fluffiphlox · 19/11/2016 18:42

I tottered around today on icy surfaces. Not a very good time. Going backwards.

cinnamongreyhound · 20/11/2016 22:05

Well done on the pbs and for getting out in the cold and age records! Was very chilly at home and I was 3 mins late, my watch was just under 29mins. Two lots of people making it into the 50 club so we had two lots of cakes! Not. Bad turn out either despite the cold though.

I'd planned to run at Rostrevor's inaugural this week, but they've asked for folks to stay away while they have a sort of test run. And I respect that - I feel I need to set a good example, rather than going "nah, I'll do what I like".

But it does rather muck up my strategic plans for the next few weeks. My local run is having a "last Saturday of the month" pacing event, so I've signed up for the 31 minute slot. I need to NOT RUN next week, so that I can do my 149th in Southampton the following week, and then my 150th at home on our Christmas Party Lunch day. Which means it would be Christmas Eve before I can do Rostrevor!

PurplePidjin · 24/11/2016 19:28

Aww Melanie can't you nip a few miles down to me and say hi?

I just realised I need to get baking for Saturday. Plain sponge fairy cakes with lemon drizzle is tge current plan

And I've gone to change ds1s DOB so he's legit and his wristband has my number on! I'm frantically trying to track down his number so I can attempt to sort it out but I'm not having much luck. Waste of money on the wristband too 😢

Lifeisabeach · 24/11/2016 20:03

Our parkrun is cancelled this week - the course is flooded :-( Could be a regular thing over the winter unfortunately.

As it happens DS has an athletics comp in a town about an hour away, and they have a parkrun. So we might do some touristing. It would mean a very early start so not totally decided yet. But Saturday morning would feel wrong without parkrun so...

chutneypig · 25/11/2016 06:01

These special runs involve a lot of planing on the timing but sounds like you've got it sorted Melanie. I agree it's the right thing to do to stay away from the inaugural.

Hope you can sort the wristband Purple after all your efforts.

Go for the tourism Life! You won't regret it.

We might do some more local tourism this week, not sure yet. Off to check the forecast.....

Blatherskite · 25/11/2016 14:58

Aww, I've been told today that I'm missed from my parkrun.

Still not ready to go back but it was nice.

londonmummy1966 · 25/11/2016 17:43

blathers volunteer to tail run next week - a good way to get you back in to it.

Blatherskite · 25/11/2016 18:11

That's actually a really good idea. In fact, while I'm stuck tomorrow and can't volunteer then, I have just signed myself up for juniors on Sunday. I need to get back to RDing as well

MavisGrind · 26/11/2016 10:58

Morning all. Lovely and sunny here for the run this morning but -5 do fecking freezing!
Hope everyone enjoyed their run.

chutneypig · 26/11/2016 11:18

Juniors always lifts the spirits - tailrunning sounds like a great plan Blathers

That is freezing Mavis blimey. It was foggy here but not too cold.

We had an interesting morning. DS kept making odd retching sounds but insisted he wanted to go to parkrun. We were just warming up and he looked so pale I banned him from running, with much protesting from him. DD went for broke with DH and knocked nearly four minutes off her PB Shock. She's now within sight of her brother so I'm anticipating lots of lovely solo runs coming up Grin. Saw my first cow cowls too, had a wonderful chat with a guy and his son, got the low down on loads of the local runs. Brilliant stuff.

Hope everyone had a good morning,

steffibabes · 26/11/2016 16:31

Yes I had a good run. Got another pb!

MelanieCheeks · 26/11/2016 16:43

Woohoo, love a good co-cowl sighting!

I had a great pacing session, got a few people new sub 31 PBs, and Minnie even had her own High viz vest Smile

MelanieCheeks · 26/11/2016 16:51

Well done Steffi, we've got you hooked now Wink

That was my 148th (and as I paced I also got volunteer credits, so there's a chance I could make both my targets of 150th parkrun AND volunteer shirt this year!)

So....ideas for 150 shirt (which I'll have to construct myself) and cake/ buns?

londonmummy1966 · 26/11/2016 18:18

Well done steffi I took it easy today - still managed under 30 mins but only by 6 seconds this week....

Good for you Blathers enjoy it tomorrow

Well done everyone - especially chutneypiglet

Blatherskite · 26/11/2016 18:33

I'm timekeeping which is my absolute least favourite job but I will be there

londonmummy1966 · 26/11/2016 18:52

Star blathers

Lifeisabeach · 26/11/2016 19:42

Wow Chutney, what an amazing run by your DD!

Hope tomorrow goes well Blathers, tail running to get back into running your parkrun sounds like a good plan.

Well done on the PB Steffi

So OH, DS and I were tourists today. DD didn't fancy it so stayed at home with MIL. We went to Lydney in the Forest of Dean, and it was fab - really good course around a lake, along a canal towpath and with a bit of woodland trail thrown in. Plus tea, coffee and cake at the finish line. I would highly recommend if anyone is nearby.

DS has had a bad cough all week so was meant to be taking it easy, but still managed just over 27 mins. I got an overall parkrun pb of 30.30 so that was nice, although the course did measure a bit short, but no need to dwell on that!
