Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

I have been running much slower this year than last. Anyway the other week my friend and I ran a pretty speedy 2.5 miles to parkrun and I managed to beat my year's best time by about 90 seconds.... So maybe there is something in the warm up.

Lifeisabeach · 03/11/2016 13:20

Ah Blathers, the first step back will be the hardest but once you've done that first one, hopefully it'll be like you've never been away. Everyone has times when running takes a back seat and you can't give it the focus you'd like to. Sounds like a good plan to get together with some from this thread and run together.

I've felt like I'm fighting off a cold all week, but it's not really come to anything. It's looking like a really cold, sunny one this weekend. DS is barcode scanning as he's got a cross country race later on Saturday morning. I don't know whether DD will want to run if it's really cold. I've just bought them both some running gloves so hopefully that will help.

And just remembered that it's my birthday on Saturday, can't think of a better start to it than parkrun!

MavisGrind · 04/11/2016 07:45

That's interesting about the warm up. I'm still very much a novice (although I've been running on and off for over ten years) and tend to conserve my energy for the actual run!
Forecast is also cold and bright here, trying to convince my two dcs to manage the full course this week. We shall see...

FishTailPlait · 04/11/2016 07:59

I am tail running tomorrow for the first time. Looking forward to being able to see parkrun from a different perspective where I take the pressure off myself.
Our local is really hilly & my aim this year is to run it all with no walking (trying to take the time pressure off myself!)

TheLegendOfBeans · 04/11/2016 09:26

I think I'm going to go again tomorrow. Been to a couple of exercise classes this week; can run a bit but know when to stop. Calf still really "knotty" but not disabling.

Hmmmmmm.

standingonlego · 04/11/2016 19:40

It will be parkrun 101 tomorrow for me Grin. Thank you to all lovely folk on this thread for getting me here with our chatter and encouragement over the years. Proper community

FiftyNineOhEight · 05/11/2016 08:22

Morning parkrunnersSmile

Bit chilly here. As it's the first Saturday of the month it is Breakfast Club. I have almost worked my way through the menu at our cafe Grin

Looking forward to hearing all about everyone's runs. I won't name check as am on phone and in a hurry.

Dh is attempting a parkrun with both kids on his own Shock

TheLegendOfBeans · 05/11/2016 09:09

No parkrun for me today but yes to shopping for tubigrips.

Gettin ol'.

chutneypig · 05/11/2016 11:49

Morning all. I'm having a lie down recovering from this morning. DDs 50th so she was after a PB. She made it, including a spectacular sprint past ten clearly delighted adults looking fresh as a daisy. Third different parkrun in a row and PBs all round, but boy it was hard today!

How did DH get on Purple?

Happy birthday Life!

Flowers Blathers how are you doing?

Did you get something warming for brekkie Fifty?

How did the tailrunning go Fish? Always my favourite role.

Did they make it Mavis?

101 - what a great number standing

How did everyone find it today?

MavisGrind · 05/11/2016 12:47

Afternoon! My it was cold out there this morning Grin
DS2 ate his breakfast too quickly/late and ended up with a stitch about 2 minutes in. He managed the first lap but was suffering so I didn't do the second. Of course DS1 saw this as an excuse to look after DS2 so waited with him while I finished.
I can't quite claim Park Run to be a family pastime. Yet.
Hope everyone had a good run.

MyBlackCat · 05/11/2016 12:52

I was on timing duties today - 140 finishers timed in sync with the back up timer Smile it was chilly but I layered up from DH ski wardrobe. First time I've seen how quick the early finishers are - great seeing everyone's faces as they finish.

Must admit, I am missing the running though. Hope everyone enjoyed their runs today.

PurplePidjin · 05/11/2016 13:55

Made it round in 1:01 with lots of biscuits Grin

londonmummy1966 · 05/11/2016 14:56

29:28!! more than half a minute off last weeks PB - am so happy. Cheated a bit and started out with the sub 27 group which meant that I was quicker off the mark and didn't get snarled up in the dogs and buggies at the back.

It was freezing waiting to start though so maybe there is something in the idea of warming up,,,

blathers please just go and do it. I know how annoying it is sometimes when you are slower than you used to be - I'm almost twice as slow as I used to be - but like you I have a life and it gets in the way/makes a good excuse for not doing the speed work I used to .......Also life is more fun in the slow lane because you can chat and take it easy at the back.

fluffiphlox · 05/11/2016 15:43

Took 42 seconds off my PB. But still not going to be worrying Jo Pavey anytime soon.

chutneypig · 05/11/2016 17:32

Oh fabulous london what a way to break the barrier!

And similarly great stuff fluffiphlox, know what you mean about Jo Pavey though.

Nothing like a bit of bribery Purple.

Congratulations on a smooth timekeeping stint MyBlackCat, must be stressful.

DD took a while to get beyond the first lap too Mavis, that's why she's a few runs behind the rest of us getting to 50. So it can happen!

karatekimmi · 05/11/2016 19:53

Well done everyone today, glad your timing went well blackcat it was a nightmare at mine due to cold cold cold hands!! I was scanning and there was quite a few double tokens given out, mine fingers were so cold it took ages to warm up!!

Lifeisabeach · 05/11/2016 21:54

It was a cold one today! Everyone sang happy birthday to me on the start line, so that was nice. DD took a while to get going but picked it up for the 3rd and 4th laps and we came in just under 34 mins. Might look into thermal running gear for the kids.

DS was barcode scanning so I wrapped him up warm. OH got a PB which would also have been a PB for DS, so he was gutted not to have run today. He's determined to PB next week.

We went from parkrun to cross country for DS. The standard was very high - all club runners - but he did well considering he was one of the youngest.

Well done to all the runners and volunteers today Smile

PurplePidjin · 06/11/2016 09:10

churney most of the bribery was to keep the growth spurring baby to stay in the buggy!

cinnamongreyhound · 06/11/2016 20:44

Happy birthday for yesterday Lifeisaabeach!

Ahhhhhh standingonlego, all warm and fuzzy Smile

Well done chutneypiglet Grin

Well done MyBlackCat, it's my favourite role after RD.

Fabulous Londonmummy1966 and fluffiphlox!

Missed my parkrun yesterday as it was my one in four off. We had a 17min first finisher, a runner enter the funnel twice and 2 signs were left out on the course but otherwise it seemed to go smoothly.

Next week I will be running and hoping to take ds2 to juniors again too. Wondering why my nearest decided to start at 9am though!!!!

MelanieCheeks · 09/11/2016 06:32

Back from my travels to Camperdown, Dundee

Beautiful views, tough course, nice bacon butty in the cafe.

MelanieCheeks · 09/11/2016 21:47

Oh, and my photo appeared in the parkrun uk showcase!

cinnamongreyhound · 09/11/2016 22:36

I didn't even see what the showcase was this week, I'll go and look now Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 09/11/2016 22:39

With a squirrel?

MelanieCheeks · 10/11/2016 07:09

Yup, that's Cracker, my parkrun mascot (the name is derived from Nutcracker, as dancing is my other passion). He come with me to all my jaunts.
