Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Had a nice run on Saturday. Me and DD's dressed up for Halloween theme, but only 1 other person did (250 ish runners) which I found a bit disappointing. All the volunteers were knitted out spookily though.

I love all the photos everyone! Melanie where are your leggings from?

A lady asked if she could take a photo of DD1 and I in our outfits. She said that she enjoys travelling round and doing tourist runs. She had a 250 t shirt on and when I checked the results cyber stalked she had done 375 runs! So impressive.

Home run not on next week due to fireworks, so I may try a spot of touristing myself.

MelanieCheeks · 30/10/2016 21:14

My leggings are from online leggings, and come from the states, so delivery isn't quick!

As well as the skeletons, I have muscles, forest, galaxy and tartan. And a cow print pair to go with my cow cowl ( serial tourist...) which I hope to debut at camperdown, Dundee, next week.

Talking of tourism, may be in Southampton on December 10th, any takers?

PurplePidjin · 31/10/2016 07:59

I might get dh some, Melanie I treated him to some bright turquoise ones in decathlon for his half and he loves them Grin (I had to get them in the women's section, poor blokes don't get anything exciting)

You could pop down to me for a pretty country off road course?

Blatherskite · 01/11/2016 18:05

I've come to the conclusion that I'm actually scared to go back to parkrun!

Me!

151 parkruns later and 50 different courses and I'm so worried that I'll go back to "my" parkrun and everyone will see how slow and unfit I've gotten and laugh! I'm an RD (or have been int he past) and know it won't happen but I'm scared Sad

karatekimmi · 01/11/2016 19:16

Oh no blathers that's not good!! Could you volunteer as tail runner, then it's your role to be slow?

FiftyNineOhEight · 01/11/2016 19:16

Blathers let me know if either you want to ease in gently by coming to visit me, or if you want me to visit you and make you run slowly like I did cinners. Or a meet on neutral ground - I have Rushmere on my to-do list.

Blatherskite, that makes me so sad!! You of all people should know that's not what parkrun is about! I'm slower now than I was 3 months after giving birth but everyone is still as supportive as I cross the line as they were before. You know your pb but to most other people it's not even on their radar. Some people will know who they need to be near to get a good time but not with a 'they're crap today' attitude.

standingonlego · 01/11/2016 21:41

We can come en masse and provide distraction blathers...you have always told us it is a run not a race Smile You were one of the early people on this thread and have inspired many, what would you say to one of us if we felt a little wobbly?

Blatherskite · 01/11/2016 21:43

I know. I just always seem to get someone asking me if I'm taking it easy this week which means they've noticed. I was taking DS as an excuse but even he's quicker than me at the moment!

Blatherskite · 01/11/2016 21:49

6 and a half years of parkrunning and I've never felt like this before Sad

MelanieCheeks · 02/11/2016 06:51

Oh Blathers! Isn't it amazing how something as innocuous as running can take on so much importance? Now you KNOW people won't laugh. If they ask, can you not just smile and say "Yes, I'm trying out different paces"

swampytiggaa · 02/11/2016 07:55

Volunteering this week as running the local 10 miler on Sunday (after volunteering at juniors obviously ;) )

Full of cold tho - going to be spending the rest of the week desperately dosing myself up!

Hello, I have a report button, which I have used to let MNHQ know that you are advertising on Mumsnet. I don't make any money from this, I just enjoy keeping our thread spam free.

Well said Blathers! I'm sure if Slimming World wanted to advertise on mumsnet they'd be more than welcome to use the normal - paid - channels

No matter what your hobby is, you can't advertise on Mumsnet without paying for it.

This thread is about parkrun and there are a multitude of reasons why people run there and not all of them are about weight loss or even fitness for that matter. To come in with nothing to add to our thread other than pushing your own facebook page is not really on.

Internet forums are a bit like a pub - fine, drop your group into a relevant conversation if the subject swings that way but you wouldn't bustle over to a group chatting and interrupt them to tell them about it iyswim?

Welcome to mumsnet, it's actually a very very supportive and tolerant place but fools are not suffered gladly! Stick around and maybe try out your local parkrun to support your weight loss goals

Xfirsttimemumx · 02/11/2016 15:34

Thank you! Totally understandable! And thank you I will look into it x

feetheart · 02/11/2016 15:51

blathers - count me in on providing a distraction if that is what's needed. As you know only too well it's that first step that's the hardest.
Maybe we can also help with responses to the 'are you taking it easy' comments.

By the way the boys absolutely LOVED the Stars race on Saturday, even the two friends he dragged along who certainly aren't runners and one of whom doesn't even see himself as sporty!
There are a few great photos too :o
Next year's date is in the diary!

karatekimmi · 02/11/2016 21:39

I often use the line tell people I'm practising my ultra marathon pace when not doing my fastest!!

HalleLouja · 03/11/2016 09:21

I have been away and missed a couple of parkruns plus may go and watch my DD at gymnastics this week so may miss another one.

Hope everyone is well.

cinnamongreyhound · 03/11/2016 09:21

I think just be honest blatherskite, everyone has times when they're not as fit as they have been. If anyone asks me when I'm not up there where I was I just say I'm a bit shit at the moment but I'm still here with a big Grin
