Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

We are similar fluffiphlox, 40-45mins is our usual last place but do occasionally have a walker.

FiftyNineOhEight · 21/10/2016 22:12

We are anything up to about an hour, but we do have walkers.

Out of interest, what, if anything, do you have for breakfast beforehand? And if you do, when do you have it?

MelanieCheeks · 22/10/2016 07:57

My usual is one slice of Burgen toast, with marmite and cottage cheese, OR almond butter and ginger curd. 2 cups of tea.

This morning I was out of bread so I microwaved a blue tortilla wrap with salsa and cheese.

It's best to try different things and see what works for you - I've found a small something is OK, though on occasions I've run on just tea. I'll eat that before 8 (and make sure Minnie has time to digest hers too), before a 9.30 start.

MyBlackCat · 22/10/2016 08:15

I've just had my usual bowl of cereal and a yogurt, eat just before 8am. I can't do anything on an empty stomach and this works for me.

My last parkrun for a while today, think there maybe some walking involved Shock I'll be on the volunteer roster from next week Grin.

fluffiphlox · 22/10/2016 11:05

Thanks for the input. Just got back. 39'57". Last bar the back marker.

PurplePidjin · 22/10/2016 11:24

I'm a walker, 53 minutes with a 13 month old on my back.

Today the tail runner even left me behind and half the markers had been collected before I was halfway round my final lap. Irrationally upset

fluffiphlox · 22/10/2016 11:32

They probably didn't realise you were participating. Did you say anything to the tail runner as they went past?

PurplePidjin · 22/10/2016 12:22

I'm known to the regular volunteers (I join them quite a bit), we were at "home" and the rd knew where I was, I made sure of that. I always start right at the back and the tail runner was off before I'd crossed the line. I tried really hard, ds1 was messing around so I had to take over from dh for a bit, don't really know why I'm bothered TBH it's just a potter round a field!

fluffiphlox · 22/10/2016 12:33

There's always next week!

MyBlackCat · 22/10/2016 13:13

I got round parkrun #65 today just under 36 mins and 12 mins off my PB Shock if anyone had told me that I'd still be running to the mid/end of October I would never have believed them so feeling proud of myself. My feet were agony today with pins and needles in the last km. To ensure I'm not tempted to run next week I have put my name down to volunteer - need to aim for the purple t-shirt as well as the black one Grin

Hope everyone enjoyed their runs Smile

swampytiggaa · 22/10/2016 13:34

parkrun number 19 today. 33.29 :) I ran with my friend and encouraged her to a new pb - 30 seconds off her previous :)

We weren't expecting anything - my foot hurts still from Sunday and my friend has a dodgy toe from wearing her old trainers then too. We jeffed it then I realised she could get a pb so she sprinted the last bit :)

Got home to my race number ready for the 10 mile race in November :)

When I started parkrun in April I would never have imagined that I would consider a run of that distance or that I would be capable of inspiring anyone else to improve their times. I love what parkrun has done for me :)

standingonlego · 22/10/2016 15:03

A last minute decision to go north to join my best mate for parkrun tourism at Brierly Forest this morning. We had a great run at a lovely new course (this was their 7th week) with friendly folk. All good. So that is run 99 done...nearly there

cinnamongreyhound · 22/10/2016 16:09

I'm sorry PurplePidjin, that sucks!!! We often collect up signs behind the tail runner but never before and the tail runner always stays with the last runner/Walker no matter what. You should be annoyed that's just rude.

Well done MyBlackCat, what's your due date?

Had a lovely run and cake with FiftyNineOhEight, lovely to see you and thanks for visiting. 120 parkruns for me and I'm rd next week. Shame it was ruined slightly by an arsey message to reply to when I got home!

Oh and I don't eat before fluffiphlox

PurplePidjin · 22/10/2016 17:00

I quite often collect as I go especially on pram days where I've got extra carrying capacity 😂 Thank you, cinnamon I tend to minimise personal stuff - and I'll get over myself once I'm a bit less utterly exhausted - so reassurance that I'm not making a (private) fuss over nothing is reassuring x

londonmummy1966 · 22/10/2016 17:10

purple if I were the tail runner I'd be sooo embarrassed...Hope to see you in Portsmouth tomorrow at GSR. I suggest you take the buggy and put the sling in the bottom - you can always leave the buggy in the Stroke marquee if it is busy and you want to sling it for a bit.

No parkrun for me today as I want to rest my legs for tomorrow Grin

PurplePidjin · 22/10/2016 17:21

Not the first time that particular person has done the same, but I met them on the last lap and we finished together at least. I might just check who it was and skip those ones Blush

londonmummy that's my plan, although he quite likes the buggy. See you all off, go for a wander cake then come back after about an hour and a half to catch him coming across the line. That's if ds1s behaviour improves and I can let him go out with my parents tomorrow. I'm not bringing him in that vast crowd, too big a risk he'll get lost despite not being much of a bolter

MelanieCheeks · 22/10/2016 18:09

Still waiting for the results notification- I'm hoping there isn't a problem!

needyounow · 22/10/2016 19:32

Well done everyone on your runs and PBs. I am so impressed that you are still running blackcat
purple that's so rude of them to pack up early etc. Hope it doesn't happen again.
I usually have weetabix around 2 hours before the run, and try not to drink anything as if I do I always need the toilet and there are none around!

We had pacers at our run today, I hadn't planned on following as the time closest to me (nearly a minute and half ahead of my time) was way to out if my reach...or so I thought. Ended up catching up with the guy by the first km and managed to stick with him all the way, totally smashing my PB. Amazing what you can achieve with that extra support and a wee bit determination.
I love parkrun. Grin

FiftyNineOhEight · 22/10/2016 19:38

pidj not irrational at all to be upset. I would be too. As I was saying to cinners and her NDN this morning, tail running is my favourite volunteer role because it's all about bringing the slower runners in. Our tail runner collects the markers on their way round the last lap, but we never start dismantling the finish funnel until the last runner comes home. Every parkrunner has as much right as any other to run/walk/whatever at their own speed. I am Angry on your behalf. I hope you have a lovely time tomorrow with lovely londonmummy

I had such a nice time visiting cinners. I got to see her lovely boys and doggies, we had delicious cake and I had a finish token in double figures instead of the usual three Smile. cinners sorry for slowing you down, but i did enjoy our chat Smile

Well done BlackCat, and good idea to chase the purple tee as well as the black one Smile

High five to swampy - brilliant progress

lego well done - are you doing your 100 next weekend? If you fancy some tourism one of the members of our WOLF team is visiting me at home.

Hope it is just a glitch Melanie

fluffi I usually have a couple of slices of toast and a coffee at 8am.

needyounow that's brilliant Flowers

Lifeisabeach · 22/10/2016 20:14

We were parkrun tourists at Tamar Lakes near Bude today, as we're staying just down the road. Our home run is 4 laps with a couple of steep hills, and this is one lap round a lake, so I was expecting it to be flat- wrong! It was surprisingly undulating and quite a tough course.

DD (6) did well though and finished in just over 33 mins, and as usual managed to out-sprint me. OH did his 50th run today and he and DS1 did just over 26 mins.

Really enjoyed visiting another course, and finding the same parkrun friendliness that we have at my home run. Love parkrun!

needyounow · 22/10/2016 20:59

Thanks fifty and mummy still in shock! But a great confidence boost.

Well done on your double figures finish token! It's a good feeling.

Well done beach and the rest of your family.

swampytiggaa · 22/10/2016 21:11

We are considering Tamar lakes on new year's day beach - our parkrun is starting at 9am and theirs is at 10-30 followed by breakfast. Not sure if 3 parkruns in 2 days might be a bit much tho!

One 'friend' has suggested we do parkrun then a sea swim on new year's day but I draw the line at outside swimming. I don't do it in the summer!
