Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

A lovely potter around Sewerby parkrun with my Dsis. I think Sewerby has to be my fave course of all the ones I've ran.

fluffiphlox · 23/10/2016 10:28

Thanks for the breakfast info. I usually don't have anything but I did have a banana yesterday at about 0730. I'm not sure it made any difference!

I always seem to do the Parkrun with a vague yearning for a wee. I think it's the non-availability of a loo. So I'm hampered by my crossed legsSmile

FiftyNineOhEight · 23/10/2016 11:45

Sewerby is a nice one isn't it kimmi. I have only been there once when SIL and BIL got married nearby.

After yesterday's visit to cinners I have been to 20 different courses. Lots more to do as well!

I'm sorry you had to deal with that purple, not how it should be.

Great to see everyone had a good weekend otherwise. We were on tour and the whole family got parkrun PBs yesterday and DS smashed his junior PB too today. I knocked a minute off and got well under 28 and I never ever ever thought I'd say that Grin.

I can however say on the breakfast front that hotel hash browns, although delicious, did not feel great around the 4 km point.

0ellenbrody0 · 23/10/2016 19:26

I volunteered yesterday doing the scanning which was fun. Wore my running kit and went for a run round the course afterwards but I was SO cold from standing round for over an hour that my legs took about 2km to start working properly!

FiftyNineOhEight · 23/10/2016 19:28

chutney that's fantastic! Well done on your new PB.

Damn, my post didn't post earlier (dodgy interweb signal) dh and Londonmummy did a fabulous job, and amazing times - and londonmummy, Mr Londonmummy and Miss londonmummy are all very luffly Star

londonmummy1966 · 23/10/2016 21:34

purple lovely to meet you and Mr P - excellent time by him - loved the way he cruised by me part way through mile one and was never spotted again until I saw him at the Stroke tent . Pleased to say that GSR have now sorted my time out at 1.45 which is a new PB for me - first 5k was only 32 minutes not an hour as previously stated.....

PurplePidjin · 23/10/2016 21:53

He kinda just gets his head down. Ignores people told me all the nice cars he saw route until he's finished and "back in the room" iyswim. Glad you got your time sorted, bizarre that it showed you as finished 17 minutes in the future 😂

cinnamongreyhound · 23/10/2016 21:56

Brilliant needyounow!

Was lovely to see you too FiftyNineOhEight, so glad you had a good time and no worries about slowing me down. That's what I love about parkrun, one week you can go out and go for a pb and another you can pootle round and be sociable. I was a bit worried I'd kept you hanging about for too long!

Brilliant chutneypig!

We had a great time at junior parkrun, ds2(6) managed in 16:43 and ds1(9) was 2 mins behind so not so happy. Was a gorgeous morning and I only needed to run a bit with them to keep them going. Ds2 wants to go back soon Smile

FiftyNineOhEight · 23/10/2016 21:59

Well done london and MrPidj, great that you were all able to meet up Smile

That's great you and london managed to meet Purple, looks like it was a great day. Well done to you and Mr Purple.

That's great news about the juniors cinnamon, will DS1 want to go back for another go too? There's nothing nicer on a gorgeous morning than the juniors.

It's definitely getting to that colder time of year 0ellen, scanning is a chilly job!

MelanieCheeks · 24/10/2016 22:06

Finally got the email at 4-30 this afternoon!

Worth the wait, a new age category record in the bag! I wanted to see how this would affect previous records: so I can see my name is still in 2nd place in my previous age group, where it will no doubt get pushed further and further down as others run faster.

chutneypig · 25/10/2016 06:27

That is a wait Melanie but how brilliant when it finally arrived, well done!

cinnamongreyhound · 27/10/2016 07:51

Brilliant MelanieCheeks!!!!!

MelanieCheeks · 27/10/2016 18:26

Thank you! twirls and curtsies

I though I'd missed out on appearing on the parkrun uk table of "New Age Category Records This Week", but it must be refreshed every so often, so I've managed to screenshot it for posterity!

MelanieCheeks · 28/10/2016 21:22

Yay, my skeleton leggings from America arrived today, in the Nick of time for tomorrow's Halloween parkrun.

fluffiphlox · 28/10/2016 22:59

I want skeleton leggings. And a top.

MelanieCheeks · 28/10/2016 23:03

Photos to follow....

PurplePidjin - that behaviour from the tail runner really isn't on. If it was 'my' parkrun I would want to know so that I could do something about it. It might be worth mentioning it because if they are doing that to you and making you feel bad it would completely put off someone new. We always have walkers and I wouldn't want anything to discourage them, particularly as I use them to lure new, reluctant people in :)

Lots of lovely parkrun chat and meet-ups going on.
No parkrun for us today as DS is off, with 2 of his friends, to do his first OCR as his birthday 'party'. They have matching t-shirts with their names on so they can be a team :D
There will still be a parkrun link though as blathers is organising it. I am hoping to find her and feed her birthday cake (which may have a parkrun theme!) :)

feetheart · 29/10/2016 00:45

Our photo from last year's Halloween parkrun is currently gracing the parkrunUK FB page. I'd forgotten how much effort people had put in :)

MelanieCheeks · 29/10/2016 07:14

Great photo!

TheLegendOfBeans · 29/10/2016 07:28

Right; today I'm doing it!

  • we have nothing else on today
  • baby is actually not full of snot
  • baby slept through
  • my knee isn't giving me gyp

HOWEVER, I can't work out if Richmond is on today (something about a crane removal?!?!) so may end up at Bushy/Kingston.

Aiming for sub 40min 👍

miked99 · 29/10/2016 07:47

Wanted a change of scenery so ran at a different course today - Mosman
3 laps with a short but steep hill in the circuit, so that was a good workout.
There were quite a few runners in Halloween costumes too, which can't have been easy, especially when the face paint started running into their eyes
