Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

I had a nice run on my home course - really wasn't feeling it this morning, so pretty happy in the end - most of me hurt at some point during the run but I finished and was just the 16 secs slower than last week and still just having to walk the hill - will hopefully get another one in next week Smile

0ellenbrody0 · 08/10/2016 20:31

huck awesome - RD, what a responsibility! Please report back, would love to hear how it went.

I managed to break the 30 min barrier for the first time ever! 29:33. It somewhat explains why my legs were BURNING and I thought I was going to throw up at the end Grin. I'm generally a plodder, I was not designed for speed.

We have no run on 5th Nov due to a firework event at the park, so I'm excited about my first ever tourist trip.

ThursdayLastWeek · 08/10/2016 21:04

Evening Alle, and hello Huck - well done you for taking on RD. I'm too scared to try Grin

I had a GREAT run this morning, totally out if the blue. DS2 had a dreadful night last night so I really only went to parkrun to get away from my family and I smashed 90 seconds off my post-baby PB. Delighted! still a good five minutes to my actual PB though

Well done BlackCat and everyone else!

Some of DH friends did that commando thing this morning tigga looks like a lot of fun.

MyBlackCat · 08/10/2016 21:10

Well done thursday I fear I will never see a PB ever again Shock

ThursdayLastWeek · 08/10/2016 21:17

I feel the same Black, it's taking me much longer to get back on form than I expected. Hey ho, got my whole life ahead of me.

Lifeisabeach · 08/10/2016 21:48

Hello, can I join? I've been doing my town's parkrun for about a year. My OH, DS1(8) and DD(6) do it too and we all love it. I've also got DS2 who's 18 months and has been coming to parkrun every week since he was a couple of months old. It's become a firm fixture for our family every weekend Smile

karatekimmi · 08/10/2016 22:31

Welcome to life and huck

huck I'm a TD at jpr and I'm volunteering tomorrow to do a refresher as all the regular volunteers are doing Birmingham half next week!! They always know everything - where all the Marshall points are, exactly where the finish funnel goes, how to wind tape correctly!! It makes my job easy, but next week I'll have a roster full of newbies!! hope it all goes well for you!

I scanned this week so I can do my 100th with my DH next week as he was at work today.

swampytiggaa · 09/10/2016 16:07

Am very excited :) just had my email saying I am now a member of the 25 volunteer club and have the link to claim my tee shirt when it's available :) plus I am going to shadow our run director on the 22nd so I can see how the job is done :) love parkrun!

londonmummy1966 · 09/10/2016 16:33

Huck hope it went well - life is much more fun if you spend your parkruns plodding at the back chatting and having a laugh...

chutneypig · 09/10/2016 17:33

Brilliant 0ellen smashing that barrier is a great moment and especially by such a margin.

Welcome huck and Life Smile

Very well done Thursday and swampy

Course PB for me yesterday so very pleased and PB for DS at juniors today, so he was very happy.

Waves to everyone!

HuckfromScandal · 09/10/2016 19:57

Well. I am officially no longer a RD virgin!
It went really well. 70 runners. Loads of volunteers. The sun shone for the 25th Sunday in a row (or at least - it has never rained).

Had tea tonight with friends - and their girls said that JPR is like family, and I totally agree.
Knackered now. Lying on the sofa with my purple t still on from this morning.

And yes. Plodding and Chatting is just about my idea of perfection!

FiftyNineOhEight · 10/10/2016 22:33

I had a fabulous plod and chat with a new parkrunner and earning my 25 shirt on Saturday Smile

Welcome newcomers! Lovely to have you on the thread.

Glad to hear it went well Huck and that the sun shone.

Well done on the 25th stint Fifty, great day to get there Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 13/10/2016 13:39

Yay Huckfromscandal, we have quite a few rd's on this thread now Smile

Can't believe it's Thursday again! I'm thinking of running away from home this weekend as we don't have plans until 1.30 Saturday but as I didn't go to mine last week it would be nice to see everyone Hmm

FlightlessBird · 13/10/2016 16:14

Right you lovely lot I need a kick up the ass some reassurance about volunteering.
I promised myself I'd volunteer, but this weekend is my 15th run and I still haven't had the courage to put my name down. Blush
What job do you think would be good for an anxious newbie? Any volunteering success stories?

cinnamongreyhound · 13/10/2016 18:41

Flightlessbird I was invited to run the trial parkrun, volunteered as timekeeper a couple of times and was then invited to rd which I trained for and within a year was ed of our parkrun. Best job for a nervous person is marshal, point, smile, clap and cheer and usually collect some signs on the way back. Or tail runner, encourage slower runners, still register a run and stand down marshals. My favourite is time keeper but I know it frightens some people. I find scanner too stressful as I don't like the line building up I feel the pressure of people waiting. Tokens is a nice way to say well done to everyone. We don't have funnel managers or anything more fancy as we're quite small compared to some.

Lifeisabeach · 13/10/2016 20:21

Definitely marshalling for a newbie - just clap and cheer! Make sure your wrap up warm too as it can get chilly when you're stood in one place for an hour.

I've only ever marshalled; my 8 year old DS has done barcode scanning several times and really enjoyed it. Our parkrun is very small though (around 50-70 runners usually) so no big queues waiting to be scanned.

swampytiggaa · 14/10/2016 22:45

I am marshalling tomorrow - timekeeper which I really enjoy :) I'm not running because I am doing a tough mudder type run on Sunday

www.northdevonhospice.org.uk/event/all-events/missionunbreakable.ashx

So no marshalling at junior parkrun this weekend!

Next Saturday I am shadowing the run director in preparation for taking on the role in the future :D

miked99 · 15/10/2016 04:15

Stunning morning in Sydney for a parkrun, I was about spot on my average time but my son got a PB for the course and is delighted.
He has totally forgotten about how tired he claimed he was all through me trying to get him out of bed, get dressed, feed him breakfast etc.
But I bet he'll be up and demanding attention when I try to have a lie-in tomorrow

chutneypig · 15/10/2016 07:31

Enjoy your run wherever you do it cinnamon. You deserve it.

That looks fun swampy.

Oh that sounds so exotic miked and well done for your son. I've given up trying to correlate whether the kids are actually tired or not. DS has done some of his best junior times when he's said he'll just watch his sister because he's not feeling it.

Volunteering for us today, timekeeping, barcode scanning and finish token support. 10k for me and DH tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing the whole run and I've been told well have a lot of first timers today, so that'll be great.

PurplePidjin · 15/10/2016 08:57

Skiving for us again today, I (Hmm) just didn't get organised in time and ds1 wasn't keen so we're watching Kung fu panda in our pyjamas Blush

londonmummy1966 · 15/10/2016 11:50

Tail ran this morning - hoping for an easy life between Royal Parks HM last weekend and Great South next. However the back pack was pretty speedy so I ended up doing it in 36 minutes odd. It's a nice job though as everyone at the back chats and has a bit of a laugh (and a whinge about our nasty hill).

MyBlackCat · 15/10/2016 14:06

I notched up parkrun #64 today, not my home course but still pretty local and was my home course until the one slightly closer started Smile had a lovely chat with a lady about running whilst pregnant and returning to running after, she ended up knocking nearly 2 mins off her PB Grin

I'm going to do one more I think and finish on 65 until the new year. I will be volunteering instead - looking forward to some different roles, I've only marshalled, tail ran or written the run report before.

karatekimmi · 15/10/2016 16:00

I ran my 100th parkrun with a barcode, and managed to knock 1min 18sec off my PB!Grin. I'm very lucky to have some good friends who ran me round and told me off every time I tried to respond to the conversation with grunts spoke. A little over 3 years since my first parkrun and I've knocked over 10 minutes off my time!!

I hope everyone else had a good run today x

PurplePidjin · 15/10/2016 19:29

londonmummy dh is doing the GSR too, I'll be milling around with ds2 (my mums offered to have ds1) I may well be under a purple stroke association banner Grin
