I hope you can find me! I went to post in the old thread but it had reached its limit.

Here's to an energetic, fit, healthy, and strong summer ahead.

ooo - glad you have started the asylum Purple - keen to hear how you get on as I think it might be time for me to do something different now I have hit my target weight (thanks for all the nice comments on the pics).

Glad you are enjoying Insanity Doctor - I defo feel more energised from HIIT than from sleeping.

So we moved on Saturday and are now back in our tiny cramped London house. But everything went smoothly and we did a massive John Lewis shop yesterday to buy beds, kitchen stuff and all sorts as all our stuff coming with the "heavy baggage" in 2 weeks time is pretty old and knackered. Spent a small fortune (including 1700 quid on a super king mattress - DH likes his sleep!)

Managed to work out pretty much every day since Weds except for move day on Sat - and I have mainly come on this morning to say I did Barry's Bootcamp with morning with Harry Styles. Yup.

That's exciting boobz. We're all the ladies in th class smiling sweetly at him and trying to get him to notice them? He looks like a fit guy so I imagine he nailed the workout. I've never had such excitement in my workout classes ever (I rarely have a man full stop in any I've done in the past at my gym). My most celeb workout claim to fame is I had an amazing instructor a few years ago who was hands down the best I've ever had. She had done gmtvs bikini body and various workout DVDs. I miss her classes, they were hard work but great.

Doctor glad you're getting on well. I'm not sure what you mean about take the tests, do you mean each round during workouts do I pause if I can't keep going? Personally I don't, I just take a break as quick as I can manage and keep going or else keep going slower or more modified to get through it.

Purple I don't like shouty Shaun t, he actually makes my motivation less somehow, I much prefer the Shaun t encouraging from the other workouts.

P99x3 agility today. I'm preferring week 2 as I know the moves a little from last time. I feel like I worked hard in that workout but I didn't manage to keep up with the people in the video or keep going for as long as they did in all moves (but I didn't modify much). I always imagine the fit ones of you do all th moves exactly like the gang in the videos, is this the case?

boobz exciting!! I am am unashamed 1D fangirl lol (even though I am older than their mums Blush). Love his new short hairstyle! I bet he nailed it too Smile

RoastieToastieReastie · 01/08/2016 21:20

Has he had his hair cut at last. Thank goodness for that ?

Welcome back to London boobz! Hope you're not missing the Rome weather too much. We've laid on some drizzle for you. I have new respect for Harry styles now. I assumed he was more of a boozer than a boot camper. I hope you took him on on the sprints. I'd have fallen off the treadmill staring!

Roastie - glad p90x3 is going better. Agility x is a lot like a poor mans asylum plyo work out. Did 'back to the core' today. Shock it was my nightmare workout. I hate that sort of core/strength stuff. If really hurts and just doesn't give the cardio buzz but I know it's good for me. Am feeling properly sore now so I guess I'll feel it tomorrow.

I find I can keep up with most cardio workouts now without needing to rest/modify but i always struggle with the weights ones. Beat my DH in a press up race yesterday tho. Smile

Am planning to do a duathlon in sept which should be fun (v short - 2.5k run/10k bike/2.5k run). DH had banned me from my racing bike when I was pregnant as I was such a liability on it. Had a quick go on Sunday and I'd forgotten how wobbly and scary they are. Eek. Must get my nerve up to actually do some training on it!

DoctoraNova · 01/08/2016 21:53

Actually, now I have a real question. I'm trying to lose weight as well as get for, I'm down to my last 2.5kg to goal and it's going sooooo slowly (like 1-2kg a month) and I've read on a few Internet fora something along the lines of "I wasn't losing weight on insanity to increased my food intake to about 2,500 calories and then I lost". What the hell is that about? Can I be eating too little to lose weight? I find that absolutely bonkers to be honest. How would that be possible?

Also, I never get sore after insanity, does that mean I'm not pushing enough? I swear absolutely buckets during and for about 15 minutes after. My floor gets slippery!

Sorry for all the questions, I'm new to this.

Am totally in love with Shaun T, he is very motivating, he seems almost kind! I was thinking he'd make an awesome midwife, haha!

Good luck in the race Purple, I'm also thinking about entering a Spartan Sprint. Has anyone done one?

Purpleraindeer · 02/08/2016 07:53

Hi doctor.
Caitlin o hara (who's not been on this thread for a while) always talks about the eating more to lose weight theory. It's called refeeding. You might have to google but the basic premise is that if your weight loss plateaus then have a day of eating a bigger carb load and something happens to trigger you losing water weight I think. Sorry am sketchy on detail but it has worked for me when I've been cal counting and then had a blow out day and I've found I've had a big weight loss the following day.

Be pleased you're not sore after insanity. Must mean you're fitter than you think you are. I found I got really tired quads/hamstrings but only really noticed it when I started the next days workout.

I've not done a spartan race but I have done a similar obstacle type race and I really loved it. I did no running at all beforehand but still managed 8miles with obstacles just off the back of Shaun t type workouts. I was pretty tired at the end tho!

onlywhenyouleave · 02/08/2016 09:53

Doctor I agree with Purple in respect of refeeding. I have been dieting for over 3 months now and have experienced this several times - google the 'whoosh' effect and it will become clear - there is one website that has a really good diagram that shows what happens to your cells when you are dieting and why the 'whoosh' effect happens. Basically, have a blow-out day and eat whatever you want and see what happens. It requires a leap of faith but at least it is an enjoyable leap Grin

I have commented on here before that I rarely experience DOMS after a Shaun T workout but quite often do when I do others such as 21-day fix workouts. I have just converted DH to Autumn as he had been stuck in a rut of doing the same 5 T25 workouts over and over again - I made him do Plyo fix, Dirty 30 and Upper Fix over the weekend with me and he has been moaning about his aching muscles for the last few days Wink I think I have convinced him that he needs to shake up his routine though!

Flat Abs fix here this morning which I enjoyed. I am on countdown to my holiday now and have veered off my schedule for a variety of reasons so I am just doing my fave workouts for the next couple of weeks. I then need a new challenge when I get back...Any ideas? Difficult as I am limited to 30 minute workouts most days. I am thinking about mixing up P90X3 (or whatever the 30-minute programme is) with some Brazil Butt Lift workouts just for variety??

Boobz · 02/08/2016 12:18

He was wearing a beanie to be a bit more incognito I think so I didn't see his haircut. He was on treadmill 18 or something and I was on 3 (dammit) so I didn't get to see him work out particularly.

Can I tempt you to a Barry's any time soon Purple?

I don't buy the refeeding thing (but then I have ishoos with food so I am not a good role model to follow). When I wanted to lose the last 2.5kg for my festival I literally cut down my calories down to less than 600 cals a day for about 9 days. You get past the hunger after about day 3 and it definitely works! It has revealed my abs I have been cultivating for the past 3 months as well - I definitely have the "ab track" (which I prefer to ab crack"!)

Ref the not aching after insanity - I don't think it's a problem as you're body just gets used to the exercises and muscle groups working so you are still working but they are the most trained so ache less. Once you do something different (like Barry's, or long distance running, or swimming) then you ache again as it's different muscles. But you're still working hard at Insanity! It is brutal if you keep up with Shaun.

Did another Barry's the morning. No Harry. I did 12.5mph (top speed on the treadmill) sprints at the end (4 of them for 60 seconds) and the instructor called me out so I felt like teacher's pet :)

DoctoraNova · 03/08/2016 15:57

Thanks everyone for input. I wonder if it's just one of those things and I'm going to give it another week before I reevaluate things. I did actually have a "refeed" day without know that's what I was doing. I was ravenously hungry one day and ate a couple of small sandwiches at my daughters birthday party (they were pretty good and at least I stayed away from the cakes!). But no whoosh effect sadly.
Next fit test is on Tuesday so when I take measurements maybe I'll see some results. My sister has said my arms look very strong. And on fishing my husband said I look defined. I shouldnt have fished, but he's a man of few words...

Anyways, have done a Bodypump class. What's the opinion on that? I didn't push hard because I wanted to feel out the class first it but notice it in my chest today.

Am thinking about doing a three day egg fast but wondering how that's going to affect my ability to do the workouts. How do you workout on 600cals Boobz???? Is that even possible??? Would love to shift 2kg though... Sigh.

Dig deep everyone, enjoy your workouts and the time to yourself.

onlywhenyouleave · 03/08/2016 17:24

Doctor this just popped up on my FB feed - it is a kettlebell workout by the Body Coach which might be worth a try? here

I love Body Pump classes- I think it takes time to settle in and work out the weights that you need to use to get a proper workout but once you do and you go regularly, you can progress really quickly.

Boobz · 03/08/2016 17:31

I did body pump classes YEARS ago in Brixton and loved it, purely because the guy that ran them did it in a boiler suit with dreads down to his bum to hard core drum and bass which made you work so hard!

I work out as normal on 600 Kcals - totally possible - your body still has energy it just uses it from your fat stores instead of the recent food you've put in your body. I ran 12 miles (a training run for my marathon) back in January in -2 degrees in Germany on day 9 of my fast (so hadn't eaten more than 350 Kcals for 9 days!) and although it wasn't fast, I got around! I also did Insanity every day (admittedly the month 1 ones) whilst I was doing the German fast thing as well.

So just as an FYI, Harry was on treadmill 14 and I was on treadmill 12 today at the 8:20 Barry's class. I'm hoping by Friday I am running next to him/doing my downward dog on top of him!!! hee hee.

RoastieToastieReastie · 03/08/2016 19:00

Doctor I love body pump, but I can't do it properly ATM because of a pesky arm injury. I'd agree going easy first time to get used to the moves etc. When you do it regularly you build up weight quickly but when I do it for the first time in a while I really ache afterwards!

Boobz you are so amazing. When I do the treadmill I think 12.5 km/h is quite fast (although maybe you do quick short sprints more in Barry's) so to do that in mph I am just in awe. You need to make it your task to beat Harry next time ;)

Continuing on p90x3 here. The challenge was today and increased my number of push ups/pull ups in the whole workout by 33 from last week which I'm pleased about. I can't help but feel so tame compared to you all though.

I just can't do fasts, I have weird blood sugar stuff and can't cope with it. I try to just eat little and often (which works best for me) and eat as healthily as I can.

OP posts:
Purpleraindeer · 04/08/2016 08:55

I wonder if Harry is in training to look buff for a media appearance or something? I could def be tempted to a Barry's boobz. Prob not til September as I'm on hols for the last 2 wks of August and not in London next week. Altho you have to promise not to show me up too badly - from experience I know I can't sprint at 12.5mph - I just panic as it feels so fast and slow it down. I think it's more in my head than anything - but I haven't conquered it yet.

Doctor - am sure you'll see an improvement in the fit test. Consistency is the key for everything so just stick with it and the 2kg will come off too.

Only - I have the same thing as you re getting sore - the second I do weights I really feel it the next day. I have never been as sore as when I did those few days of 21 day fix extreme. It killed me! Mind you was sore after the last 2 days of asylum - my back and shoulders got a real going over. Argh. Am definitely really weedy in my upper body. Only used 4kg weights and it felt hard! Supposed to be speed and agility again today so I'll be battling the ladder/skipping rope again later Confused

DoctoraNova · 04/08/2016 10:26

I think you're right Purple, much as I would love to be able to do a 600cal a day rapid diet to shift these 2kg like Boobz, I don't think that's for me. For one, I know my workouts would suffer and I'd end up with crap form, bumbling through insanity with zero motivation and I think it could be the end of me and my love affair with ShaunT. I think I'll just try continue what I'm doing, give it s bit more time and accept that I have to be patient. Damnit, I hate being patient!

I'd love to know how you all fit these workouts into your lives. At the moment insanity is quite a squeeze and I'm only on month 1, I've heard month 2 gets even longer and that's going to be very tricky. I'll have to look for something easier to maintain for afterwards. This certainly is a challenge!

Keep it up everyone.

onlywhenyouleave · 04/08/2016 11:46

Doctor I get up at 5.15am and do my workout then (am sure everyone on this thread is fed up of me mentioning that Grin). I work 4 days a week and evenings are generally filled up with taking the DC to places/clubs/training so I really struggle with time in the evenings. So, 4 days a week, I do this - however, it limits what I can do as I am not prepared to get up any earlier and I need to be in the shower by 6am so I can only do the 30 minute workouts. The other days (my non-working day and weekends), I am a bit more flexible and just fit it in with whatever else I am doing. I can do longer workouts on these days aswell.

But, despite it seeming like madness to get up at 5.15am, I LOVE my morning workouts and I love the fact that it is then done for the day and it isn't hanging over me (and I haven't got the DC either watching me or continually asking me how much longer I will be as I am hogging the TV Wink). Did Rip't Circuit this morning which is one of my faves - love the variety in it Smile

Purpleraindeer · 04/08/2016 13:47

Only - this is a thread derail but what is your non work day? Am going to go down to 4dw but not sure whether I should ask for mon, fri or a midweek day? Also you were asking re other workout options - what about 22 hard corps? The strength ones are great and properly hard. I don't like the cardio ones as much tho. Or max30 but the tabata one - tabata power is worth a go. Because there's lots of breaks it's manageable.

DoctoraNova · 04/08/2016 13:52

I'm def going to be looking for a 30' workout after this. How hard core is hard corps? That's interesting about getting up at 5.15, the thought fills me with dread, but I did do it for a while for a bonkers commute. I know what you mean about it "hanging over you", and the kids being on top of you while you're trying to do it. Maybe I can get up before them to do it. Good idea, I think I'll give it a go.

onlywhenyouleave · 04/08/2016 14:42

Purple it is Monday. Pre-DC, I always loved having Mondays off as you didn't have that 'Sunday night' feeling (and for some reason, it doesn't come on a Monday night!) - if I wanted to have a long weekend, I always preferred it to having Fridays off. So when I went down to 4 days after having DS1 10 years ago, I opted for Mondays. It also works out better with your bank holiday entitlement as most bank hols fall on a Monday so if you wouldn't normally work them, you can use your bank holiday entitlement for that day at another time so you actually gain more holiday over the year (probably haven't explained that very well Blush)

I have looked at Hard Corps and don't think it is my type of workout at all. Will investigate Max 30 and maybe come up with a hybrid of that, the P90X ones that are only 30 minutes and maybe chuck some 21-day fix extreme ones in aswell although they scare the living daylights out of me Grin

I have 2 weeks in Lanzarote to enjoy first though Grin

Boobz · 04/08/2016 15:58

I agree getting the workout done in the morning is the best way. Sets me up for the whole day too.

There was a new Nike store opening in Kings X near my work today with 20% off all day, so have just spent a small fortune in there on a load of new workout gear. Wore it to Barry's for the lunch time class later on in the day and I already feel fitter as a result :)

I will hold you to September Purple (and you KNOW you could do 12.5mph sprints - it's only for 60 seconds or less!)

RoastieToastieReastie · 04/08/2016 20:10

Doctor I've done hc22. I didn't find the results that amazing (although I didn't follow their diet). For 22 minutes it's good and it's so quick it's over before you know it but as the only workout I think it lacks a bit. I do it now occasionally in addition to other workouts during the week and for that it's really good. If you only have 22 minutes (although I think three times a week you do abs afterwards which is an extra ten mins) it's worth it. I think insanity max would give better results. I'm doing p90x3 atm (on week two but it's more just to give me a programme whilst DD is home from school then I'm back on p90x) which are only 30 mins each a day and there are some good workouts on that too. T25 might be worth considering.

Boobz yay to the new workout gear. So is Barry's a regular thing for you now you're back in London?

I try to do my workouts in the morning. I can't workout in the evening as my body is too tired and if I workout after lunch I just get indigestion (even if I have a light lunch three hours before....figure that out!). I work three days a week and on those days I pop to the gym on the way home on two of the days and do a workout DVD but at the gym (I tend to write down the moves so I know what to do Blush ). On week ends I workout each day and my two days off I workout as soon as I drop DD at school. If things get in the way I try not to beat myself up about it and fit it somewhere else instead or just miss it occasionally. It's easy with something like p90x3 but with p90x where workouts can be an hour to an hour and a quarter it does feel like I need alot of discipline to get them done when I have lots of other things to do (especially as in my job I bring alot of work home).

Physio has taped up my elbow to help my injury and I now am struggling to eat as to bend my elbow is not pleasant with the tape on.

OP posts:
RoastieToastieReastie · 04/08/2016 20:43

Meant to add, physio mentioned possibility of having steroid injection in my elbow to help my injury heal/give me a bit of rest from it. Has anyone had this before? Googling and feeling a bit scared about it.

OP posts:
Purpleraindeer · 05/08/2016 06:24

Roastie - no idea about the steroid injection sorry. Is it feeling better taped? Sounds like that could also be marketed as a diet aid. Grin I meant to ask you before - when you did asylum did you use the power bands as well? Hats off to you if you did. I'm feeling very tired this am and there's no way I could have done a harder workout! I have got a tiny bit better at speed and agility and actually did a few of the skipping moves last night so felt good about that. I agree with you on hc22 - altho I'd say it would be pretty effective if you did it as doubles. I found doing 2 strength work outs hard/fun.

I work out in the evenings after the kids go down. Makes it difficult to do long work outs so was a bit of a mission when I did insanity as I'd often not finish working out until 8.45 then eat dinner at 9/9.15. I've found I've got into the habit now tho so on rest days it feels weird just sitting around. Only problem is that is the time I might see DH so sometimes I feel guilty that I'm not chatting to him.

Only - Monday sounds a great day to have off. I can't do that as we have our busy day on Mondays. Altho at this point just not working 5days will feel like a massive treat.

yumyumpoppycat · 06/08/2016 18:01

Hoope the steroid injection works Roastie if you go for that, my dad had that in his shoulder for arthritis. What also helped him was swinging his arms round 100 times every day - not suggesting you do that btw!

Well done getting started on asylum Purple fantastic you are getting better already.

Grin Boobz at you already feeling fitter in new clothes, shopping is a workout in itself anyway.

I used my new powerblocks I found them a bit fiddly and was worried they would fall apart when over my head) but think I will get used to it. Think I might have gone a bit too heavy for some (tried 24lbs for first move then changed it down), tbh I wasted a fair bit of time deciding which weight to select Confused
