Ah still but I didn't say how long it took me to get up that hill...

emummy · 26/11/2016 11:08

Recovery run done with dd2, so physically relaxing but mentally stressful! She can do it fine, just convinces herself she can't, so have to have cajole her half bully her! And the run was her idea! Is it too early for gin?

Lovely sunny morning run through woods and along the river.

Progressive 10. Last mile was at 7:30 pace, not seen numbers like that in a while!

Really tough 10k today with my little doggie which was actually 6.65 miles and I cried! Having a difficult weekend with dh and after slogging through mud which had attached itself to my shoes we hen ran through mud which covered my shoes and soaked in so I walked through and cried and then walked a bit longer. That mile was still under 12 mins so not too disastrous but I so hate walking. Finished in 1:05 and got a lovely medal. 514.25

cinnamon well done for keeping going and not giving up. That sounds like a very hard earned medal that you can be proud of. Hope next week is better and that you have managed to clean off the mud!

Anglaise1 · 28/11/2016 18:22

Sorry your 10k was too long and too muddy Cinners, a good time though, I hope you have warmed up by now!
43,6 to add from the last week, back running again although knee still a little painful. I have an appointment to see a sports doctor this week, hopefully he will be able to advise on whether or not to operate.

lastqueenofscotland · 28/11/2016 21:19

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time cinners

6.9 to add was going to plod on to make it 7 but couldn't be bothered

Hi All. Back from the UK with a few runs to add totalling 20.6

  • 18.5k road run. First in forever. Went out way too fast assisted by tail wind. Very tough second half as a result. Forgot what the wind is like down on the south coast. Time not too bad but work to do on endurance and pacing.
  • Gorgeous 9.5k trail run in my new shoes (Brooks Adrenalin). Felt a bit clunky at first after my Hokas but I like the firmer mid sole on the flinty paths.
  • Worthing Park run. Not my finest effort- hands and feet completely frozen which didnt help but basically my speed/track work avoidance has come home to roost! 30 seconds slower than my PB.

So nice running but once I get my race over with this Sunday I really need to focus on road marathon training as No 1 priority. Otherwise this Tokyo trip will just be an expensive waste of time.

Cinners That's a good time for muddy trail with wet feet. And there's nothing worse than a "long" course just when you think you're done. Good work.

Anglaise glad the knee is a bit better. Fingers crossed no operation

lastqueen Are you marathon training again? Which one?*

Steady run along river with Dh. Beautiful cold morning. He's always been faster than me so was amused to be accused of increasing the pace at one point - he felt it was uncomfortable! All those hills must be paying off!

AuntieStella · 29/11/2016 17:20

Lovely to read about everyone else's runs!

I'm still crocked. I rested for a week, and tried again yesterday, planning a 2 mile run. Felt really good, until the 1.3 mile point, when the calf pinged again. So resting for another week, sigh.

cinnamongreyhound · 29/11/2016 22:25

Been rubbish at reading, will try tomorrow but wanted to add my miles before I forgot. Flippin freezing out there tonight!!!! 600.15

Two runs to add this week - 7 km round trip gym commute yesterday and 8 km trail this morning - beautiful clear day and a balmy 18 degrees.

Resting now ahead of my race on Sunday-27k and 2000m total vertical (basically 2 massive peaks and then a 5k run either side). At least the weather's supposed to be nice but I am gonna need many many gels.

November: 604.55
December 5.15

cinnamongreyhound · 01/12/2016 12:53

Good luck with your appointment Anglaise1!

New shoes are always nice but the first few runs are tentative keysersophie. I've got innov8 talonX recommends here I think, keep my feet very dry but first few runs totally destroyed my heels/ankles. I never train on road even if it's a road race, probably not the best plan but road generally is easier. Your races always sound so exciting!

Sorry to hear that AuntieStella!

Not quite as cold this morning, I don't think but still a very sparkly forest! 9.15

OP posts:
emummy · 01/12/2016 13:56

Steady plod around a nice route in the forest, just taking it easy. After all the freezing weather it was a tropical 10 degrees, very strange! Normal weather will resume shortly I'm sure.
Hope your calf recovers soon AuntieStella.
Good luck for the weekend keyser.

Anglaise1 · 02/12/2016 18:00

AuntieStella I think 10 days minimum is usually required for most injuries...if you don't rest properly the recovery period is much longer as a lot of my running friends can testify to! Its frustrating, I know.
Good luck with your race this weekend Keyser, it sounds great, I hope the weather is good.
Saw the sports doc yesterday, good news about the knee, no operation needed, it would be a waste of time and may make things worse, so he will do an infiltration instead (in English not sure, injection of something, cortisone perhaps?)
OTOH for my bunion he says it must be operated on, impossible for me cos I'm alone with my 2 kids in the middle of the French countryside...1 day without driving is impossible let alone one month!
13 miles to add to November 617.55
10 miles to add for this month 24.35

emummy · 03/12/2016 13:47

Wee 5k first thing, have a busy weekend a was great to get out early and clear my head

27.45

cinnamongreyhound · 03/12/2016 22:24

That's bad news Anglaise1, a friend of mine has one and she tapes hers and wears two pairs of socks to stop it rubbing, very painful though.

Did the inflatable Santa 5k this afternoon. Was great fun even though I wasn't looking forward to it!! Only annoying thing was doing 2.9miles in 28mins then taking 40mins to do the last 0.2miles due to waiting for the last obstacle. Looking at doing another in Peterborough in April though! 30.55

Early run through country lanes, freaked out some sheep!

Sirzy · 04/12/2016 19:49

Liverpool Santa dash this morning. Loved it - very different to a 'normal' race that's for sure!

Also done 2 5k treadmill runs this week so 9.3 to add all together

Lovely run in the frosty forest this morning 52.19

KeyserSophie · 05/12/2016 02:02

cinnamon that's the thing that puts me off OCRs- unless you're an elite with super good upper body strength so you can get over everything unassisted, they always bunch up round the obstacles and you end up hanging around. At Spartan races you can do a 30 burpee penalty but I feel like that kind of defeats the purpose- like why would I pay HK$600 to run 6k and do 500+ burpees ?? Grin. There's a special place in hell for that.

27k Asia skyrace championship race yesterday- very tough climbs and technical descents - i had a hydration pack malfunction which didnt help- basically if I wanted to drink I had to take my vest off and drink out of the top of the bladder which I didnt do enough so got quite dehydrated. Got 3rd veteran and 10th female so not terrible but could have been 3 places better if I'd been a bit more mentally "in it to win it".

Got home and thought I had given myself kidney failure due to purple pee. Then remembered I'd tested out those beetroot shots (phew).

Trail celeb appearance by Caroline Chaverot, who won UTMB this year and who won the 54k yesterday in less than 2hrs longer than it took me to run half the distance. She's also older than me- Gah!

69.19

Anglaise1 · 05/12/2016 06:47

Well done on your race Keyser - the ascents are something I dream about living in Very Flat Brittany. Caroline Cheverot is a super human, her times are incredible. Endurance can improve with age even if speed deteriorates, I'm often in front of a lot of younger trail runners and I'm the wrong side of 50.
10 miles to add from the weekend, still no intervals, just nice runs with the dog and friends.
