Still going strong, running and chatting as we go Smile

Thanks. If it is looking very dodgy I may don a bin bag for the start line? (can you tell I am a festival kid?). There are thousands of us and I do not fancy standing in the rain shuffling forward. Is that a bit mad?

Needastrongone · 14/10/2016 19:32

A cap for sure, and either a bin bag as you suggest or a really old top that you don't mind chucking away.

Good luck!

No running today but planning on running Saturday and Sunday. I've worked up to 5 days a week (one Boxercise which is all round conditioning but great for core). Once I'm good with 5, I'll add more volume.

stilllearnin · 14/10/2016 19:55

My brilliant boyfriend has fashioned me a bin bag tunic and brilliant wide brimmed hat from a sainsbury's carrier bag - being both water proof and high vis. I reckon I'm good to go...

He's a keeper Grin. Good luck stilllearnin

30km trail race last night (+/-1600m). I last did the course in 2013 when it was 3k shorter, so my aim was to absorb the additional 3k into my 2013 time, and ideally knock off another 7 mins to make a nice round 5 hrs. Had a good race, despite intermittent cramping and managed 4:40 and 2nd place (by 10 seconds- arrrgghhhhhhhhhh!!!!). Won US$200 in Hoka vouchers and some champagne which was nice.

I told myself if I could break 4:45 (stretch target) I could go to Tokyo next year to try for a GFA time, so I'm going to sign up today

Course measured a bit long so 19.1 miles to add

Rare park run appearance for me this morning, usually ds has swimming lessons but it's the holidays so off I went. Typically it is the wettest day ever! Last 50 m of a very nice course were 2in deep in water, crossed the line with very wet squelchy shoes!

Needastrongone · 15/10/2016 13:36

That's utterly brilliant Keyser. Well done on the distance, time and prize, brilliant stuff.

Sounds like an experience emummy!

7.5 mainly off road today. Trail shoes fit nicely but boy can you feel the ground more Grin

karatekimmi · 15/10/2016 16:14

My 100th parkrun, a shiny new PB in a "new minute" 26:18! Grin

Slightly faster than my garmin gave (26:26) but out garmibs were all over the place - I ran with my DH and a friend and we had 8:09, 8,18 and 8:30 for the first miles! On his watch my fiend got a faster time but finished (a fair few seconds) behind me! I get that distance might be wrong due to gps signal, but I thought the time would be correct!

cinnamongreyhound · 15/10/2016 20:37

Amazing keysersophie!!!!!!

Sounds like my experience of Barnstaple parkrun emummy except it was most of the course and my little dog hated me!

parkrun, putting out collecting signs to add plus a bit more running about helping 443 including karatekimmi's parkrun.

Absolutely lovely run this morning. Relaxed easy pace, cool misty morning, just felt good to be alive! Off to take dd2 for an interval session, she has cross country relays next weekend so needs to do some extra work.

Needastrongone · 16/10/2016 15:20

Love runs like that emummy, good for the soul! Makes you grateful just to be alive, as you say.

4.5 gentle, recovery pace. Many moons ago, when I was coached, there was an emphasis on keeping recovery runs ridiculously slow, to enable the body to keep on getting the miles, but be fresh for the tougher sessions.

AuntieStella · 16/10/2016 20:56

I'm still feeling ridiculously pleased that I am running at all, and am fairly awestruck with the level of performance that others have!

I ran with DH today, and didn't find him quite as irritating as last time! He's changed his tune a bit on the level of performance he manages on the treadmill (he goes to a gym through his work) - I'd always believed his account of him being a good runner, but actually we're not that different.

And another reason he was less irritating today is that he wasn't wearing anything neon!

Two runs since I last posted, totalling 6.6miles

460.3

Needastrongone · 17/10/2016 20:08

3 easy miles tonight, on tired legs after a working day and running for the last 2 days too. Walked the dogs for 2 miles too, but won't count that!

cinnamongreyhound · 17/10/2016 23:07

Had a finance meeting at school today rather than canicross run, boo Sad

Keyser - well done - that is fantastic!

For those that want the details, you can see photos of my rainy get up on the new half marathon thread. It was so excellent that it scared the rain away and we had glorious weather!

So I have 13.1 miles to add

Keyser you are such a machine!!

I have 26.5 to add from the last few days

Short very hilly forest run this morning before a day trip with dh & dcs.

5.5 - club session and jog home

KeyserSophie · 19/10/2016 06:05

just adding 4.5 from my gym commute this morning. Will do a "proper" run tomorrow. We've had typhoons and the weather's been terrible. I'm too scared to go on the trails in case I get hit by a flying tree branch. Plus my calves have been agony since that race- not enough hill training.

523.4

Needastrongone · 19/10/2016 22:19

Take it steady until your recover Keyser.

6.8 miles tonight with the club. I upped my speed and went with a faster group, sub 9mm. Good to push on sometimes. I've a long way to go to get back up to speed. Ho hum.

KeyserSophie · 20/10/2016 04:09

Got out on the trails today for a bit over 5 miles. Saw a wild pig family (super cute babies) and surveyed the devastation of yesterday's "black rain"- we got flooded to shit because HK island is basically a mountain with everyone living on the flood plain. DD was super excited because she had to walk in thigh high water on the way home from tennis . Looks like we're going to get battered by a typhoon tomorrow as well.

535.5

emummy · 20/10/2016 10:20

Well at least your runs are never boring keyser! Hope the typhoon doesn't cause too much trouble.
Interval session for me this morning. It went well, except that for the second time I got mixed up where I was, didn't look at my watch when it buzzed, just assumed I knew what was next. Big mistake! Instead of 2 minutes hard, 2 rest and a 1 mile cool down, I ran all of that hard! The good thing is it felt OK and I felt nice and strong, so no harm done.
539.6

cinnamongreyhound · 20/10/2016 11:18

Eeek that sounds a bit scary KeyserSophie! We had quite a bit of rain the last two last evenings but nothing like that. The forest here is very sandy so heavy rain washes everything away and totally changes the ground.

Usual Thursday morning run today. All dark now. Ds3 has been poorly and not sleeping well, he woke the second I got out of bed so I put him in with dh who was not happy about being woken so I left a very grumpy dh and a very upset ds at home. Got back to find all three boys up and dh much happier thankfully! 543.6

It's amazing how things can tootle on for a bit without you, isn't it cinners - all that mum guilt stuff we do too!!

keyser i ran round a housing estate while ds was in maths today - still I would not swap for your views and weather!

3.5 today and negative splits - which I never pay attention to- you lot will make a runner of me yet!!

547.1

Needastrongone · 20/10/2016 21:06

Ha, cinners, I would have felt guilty and stayed in, good for you for plonking your DS in with your DH.

Hope you fare the typhoon ok keyser.

I have no running to report but a tough Boxercise class instead, the instructor really pushed us hard . Before I got injured I didn't pay much attention to my core and upper body strength, so I'm keeping this class as I think it's important.

Saturday I am meeting up with 2 of the guys from the running club and we are doing an 8 mile run and then the Park Run. Longest I will have run in a very long time, but i think at steady pace I will be fine. I hope....!
