I started a new thread. Can't link as on phone and have a heat pad on my knee while awaiting my physio apt.

And on your marks.....

Skoda The Shuffler checking in to say today was W2R1. Completed with a purple face and vigorous use of inhaler, but completed nonetheless.

Well done Doreen!

0ellenbrody0 · 18/04/2016 20:01

I've read about stitches being caused by dehydration comeagain that could certainly be the reason especially as you managed the first 8 ok.

W6R2 done, 10, 10 with a 3 min walk inbetween. Was ok but I was very very slow. Runkeeper kindly informed me that it was my slowest run so far Grin

I cling onto the fact that I was still faster than I would be sitting on the sofa.

Imaystillbedrunk · 18/04/2016 23:32

So I've not really stuck to the plan. Week 2, covered 5k this eveninb with a running club on a 1min run 3min walk cycle. Was good to have a group to run with. Going to up it to 1.5min run and 3min walk next week. Was a good evening.

KeepOnPlodding · 19/04/2016 13:50

Don't know where else I can shout about this but I plodded 7km today!!! GrinGrinGrin

It wasn't fast and it wasn't pretty but I did it with just a couple of short walking breaks (3 x 1 min) and despite feeling completely shattered at the end I almost enjoyed bits of it.

Stellar67 · 20/04/2016 08:06

Plodding that's brilliant. Well done! You've really done well.

I did 25 minutes last night. I would like to start to track distance. I'm going along to my local park run on Saturday. That's me back to where I was before injury.

OP posts:
SkodaLabia · 20/04/2016 11:50

I was going so slowly today (W2R2) that I had a weird sensation of going backwards. Blush Grin

I think I might actually be faster on the couch. Grin

NattyGolfJerkin · 20/04/2016 19:26

Checking in to log W5R2. For me that means two 10min runs with a 5 min walk break. First 10mins were comfortable and I felt like I could have kept going for another few mins. Second lot of 10? I was a bit stitchy, begging for mercy and counting down. Another mixed bag today. We managed 4.87km over the session.

Well done Plodding Star.

Keep on trucking, folks

0ellenbrody0 · 20/04/2016 19:56

skoda Grin Grin I know the feeling. Now I'm doing longer stretches of running (25 mins today!!!!) but am slower overall than when I was walking most of it!

Wenchelda · 21/04/2016 09:52

< peeks head round door >

I just started c25k, completed w1 r2 this morning - I discovered this thread so thought I'd say hello. I never ever stick to an exercise regime but actually have quite enjoyed my 2 runs so far (I say run, of course at this point it's mostly walking and then very very slow jogging!) so I'm hoping to stick at this. I need to improve my overall fitness and lose at least 1st so fingers crossed this helps.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 21/04/2016 10:22

hello

joining in, but in secret, no one knows, except the dog...he bloody loved it, but he won't tell anyone.

I brisk walked last week and did W1R1 properly yesterday, hugely surprised not to have died, and will replan my route as the last 3 runs absolutely the loosest definition possible of the word were up hill ...I brisk walked the last two.

I am going to stick with that until I do it decently....that seems a better idea than progressing too fast and not doing it properly

I have decent trainers, but didn't wear them yesterday as they gave me a blister for the walking last week, so I wore ridiculous and sequinned trainers that I normally walk the dog in....and my leg hurts today...so i shan't make that mistake again.

we'll brisk walk again today.

SkodaLabia · 21/04/2016 11:40

Did any of you folk who are further down the line than us beginners actually lose any weight through this running malarkey? I can't help feeling my woeful pace is due to hefting my huge bulk along, rather than my actual fitness level. Thing is, if I don't get any lighter, how on earth will I run for the longer periods?

Or perhaps should that be .

SkodaLabia · 21/04/2016 11:43

Tondelaya, good socks and good trainers are hugely important, this much I know. I've always got blisters if I've walked long distances, even in well worn in shoes that are perfectly comfy for ambling about in. I've now realised the joy of well fitting fancy trainers and proper socks. I can recommend Hilly Marathon (ha ha) and Hilly Twin-Skin. Pricey but fabulous.

Stellar67 · 21/04/2016 12:37

Welcome new C25k runners, that's what you will be calling yourself soon.

I second good footwear and socks. And I also have felt a difference when I give my feet a sanding down. Wink

I did 28 minutes this morning. It may have been 30 as I was faffing with the phone and knocked the timer back.

I don't know if this will come back to bite me but I am not stopping for a walk. I run slower. If I stop I don't gain the same momentum.

Skoda I've lost a bit of weight, but I'm also on a diet.

OP posts:
SkodaLabia · 21/04/2016 13:18

Seriously, Stellar, only a bit?

Oh lord, I was hoping the pounds would drop off and I could still inhale creme eggs.

Stellar67 · 21/04/2016 13:27

Ha ha! I know. I can still feel my bum wobbling away. I don't think I'll ever get away with eating what I want. My friend runs 5-10k a day and has to watch her weight. Sad

OP posts:
NattyGolfJerkin · 21/04/2016 14:51

tondelaya, welcome. I LOVE the idea of c25k in sequinned trainers Grin

NattyGolfJerkin · 21/04/2016 14:54

mate of mine runs marathons and is a size 16-18. It's just the way she's built. She's fit as a fiddle and toned as you like but she hasn't lost much weight running. I think it's down to your individual make up, some people get really lean by running, others not so much.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 21/04/2016 18:11

oh... i am only doing it to keep eating ..not really joking either

it's that or diet and i don't want to!

natty they are hugely comfy, and prettiful but not really up to the job!

Wenchelda · 21/04/2016 19:18

I am also hoping the running shifts some weight. I have zero willpower when it comes to dieting and always feel deprived if I try and diet so hoping the running will compensate for that. Actually I'm not even bothered about losing weight as such, but definitely want to lose inches from my tummy, bum and thighs. I've also downloaded a 30 day squat challenge app and am doing that too.

comeagainforbigfudge · 22/04/2016 15:36

I thought id posted last night.

Well, i did w6r2 last night. After 12.5hr shift it was the only way i could fit another run in this week, honest

It was actually not too bad a run. Its all flat round my work so that might have helped a bit Grin. Although i did think it was torture as i was doing it.

Now to figure out how to squeeze the next one in amongst all my shifts 😨

SkodaLabia · 22/04/2016 17:27

W2R3 for me and Unfit Friend today. It was hard work but we're still running all the bits we should.

Has anyone repeated any weeks? We're feeling a little intimidated about next week's runs, and we're wondering whether to repeat weeks in the hope of speeding up a bit, or keep adding on the minutes regardless of pace.

NattyGolfJerkin · 22/04/2016 19:33

tond & wench - you might lose weight running. I don't run to lose weight but it happens anyway. I go very lean when I've got a regular running habit.

I'm logging w6r2 (10min run, 3 min walk, 10 min run). Easier today. A bit of drizzle and we took it more slowly. Both things helped.

Stellar67 · 22/04/2016 20:36

Skoda I repeated weeks when I first started, and again recently because I hurt myself.

I'm going to a park run tomorrow! I'm quite excited! Grin

JellyJ · 22/04/2016 23:15

Well I have completed C25K and feel proud to have come this far. But I can't do 5k yet. Usually around 4k in 30 minutes. I'm also struggling to keep the running momentum up now. Only managing once or twice a week. I haven't really got the will power when I haven't got the program to adhere to!

Skoda and Wench I haven't lost any weight at all. In fact I might even have gained it Confused

0ellenbrody0 · 23/04/2016 09:16

stellar that's so exciting, I can't wait to do a parkrun. Good luck. Please report back later.

jellyj I. Just about to start W7, but already contemplating life without the structured programme. I wonder if the answer is another plan? 5-10k or something like the zombierun app which works on getting you quicker?

Just finishing my morning coffee then off to do W7R1, I much prefer running on an empty stomach.
