I started a new thread. Can't link as on phone and have a heat pad on my knee while awaiting my physio apt.

And on your marks.....

I did it! I did it 5k!

37.03

Oh my days. I ran 5k!

Keep going jelly. I can't do it in 30 mins.

Ellen I will also be looking for a 5-10k. I'm not fussed about speed. I'm enjoying pushing the length.

Well done stellar !! That's great. Grin

I'm doing a 0-10k plan, Jelly, which automatically moves you on to a 10k programme after w9r3. Like stellar I'm interested in stamina/distance rather than speed.

SkodaLabia · 23/04/2016 15:26

Well done Stellar! That's fabulous.

Arf at you enjoying "pushing the length". Grin

0ellenbrody0 · 23/04/2016 15:52

stellar that's awesome! My closest parkrun is about half an hour drive away, that's quite an early start for a Saturday!

W7R1 done. I can't believe I can run for 25 mins without stopping. I need to add a bit to my route. It's currently a 4k loop but I nearly ran to the end with a 25 min run, so when I increase again next week, it's not going to be quite long enough. I only managed a 2 min cool down walk today but I did plenty of stretches when I got home.

KeepOnPlodding · 23/04/2016 19:59

Well done Stellar! That's brilliant. You must be really chuffed!

And well done to everyone else that is keeping going or just starting. This thread is a real inspiration.

I did a PB (Get me with my running vocab!) at parkrun this morning. Still painfully slow but it's reassuring to feel that it's getting easier.

For those of you that aren't covering 5k in the final weeks of C25k don't worry, just keep increasing the distance slowly. I worked out exactly where the 2.5k mark was on my plod and just kept going to that point and back, even if I had to plod a bit of the cool down time and then walk the rest.

And no, I haven't really lost any weight so far unfortunately but my legs look loads better, my skin is better and (weirdly) my arms feel more toned.Smile

Fraggled · 24/04/2016 07:56

Can I join please? I'm on my 2nd go at this after my second baby. I'm only on week 3 run 3. I completed it and ran 5k three times a week back in 2013 but since then I've really not done any cardio (only yoga) so I'm starting from scratch more or less!

GrowAndRun · 24/04/2016 08:03

I completed W5 yesterday. Cant quite believe that I ran for 20 mins (v slow pace, but running it was!!)
W5R2 confused me with the 2 x 8 min runs. I was expecting 5 mins same as w5r1. But it was also the first time I felt like I could have kept going and wasn't desperately counting down to the end of the run.

Stellar67 · 24/04/2016 08:45

Thanks all. I am still smiling. Skoda BlushGrinpush the length. Plodding well done to you too, and the PB. Ellen my park run is an hours drive but I'm an early bird so I don't mind it.

Welcome new plodders. Well done and keep going.

well done stellar!

I confessed to dh, he was kind! ....not that he would not be, but I know I'd be hard pushed to avoid a sneaky snigger!

Anyway, very sidetracked over the weekend by booze and family but back to it today, only I was caught in a fucking BLIZZARD!! A real live actual white out blizzard and wind so windy I couldn't walk and breathe!

Dh had passed me and dogface on the way out and he came back out to collect us, so I have to try again tomorrow.

On the upside, after five mins of warm up walking, the two runs and one walk I did manage before having to cower behind the cow barns took me to the same place as two runs and two walks so I have gained speed :o

And the real trainers did not have time to give me a blister.

0ellenbrody0 · 25/04/2016 19:55

w7R2 done, in the pouring rain! (Not a blizzard though Tondelaya) quite refreshing actually Grin

NattyGolfJerkin · 25/04/2016 20:34

w6d3 done and dusted. Beautiful, bright & crisp evening but bloody cold & windy on the first half! Felt good tonight. Was dreading running later, I prefer an am or at least early evening run as I find the motivation hard after 7pm but it was tonnes better than anticipated.

Mate is away for a week or so now so we're going to run w7 independently and start w8 when she's back. I only started running with her a few weeks ago and riot to that always preferred running alone. Now I think I might find w7 tough without her. Funny, isn't it?

NattyGolfJerkin · 25/04/2016 20:40

*prior to that

Wenchelda · 25/04/2016 21:34

W1 r3 completed today. Weather was shocking so I went to the gym and did it on the treadmill - thought I wouldn't like that but it was ok, made me run quicker than I would outside too. I know you're meant to have a rest day in between runs and space them out throughout the week but due to work & other commitments, I can't really do anything on Friday/Saturday/Sunday. So I'm going to try and do 4 X a week, mon-thurs. (will repeat r3 of each week on the Monday, then r1-3 of the new week tues-thurs). Has anyone else done it like this, without having he rest days in between?

SkodaLabia · 25/04/2016 21:41

W3R1 done today. Unfit Friend and I trudged along in the sun and gale force winds, it was marvellous.

I'd be very wary of not having rest days, Wenchelda but then I'm the opposite of fit as a fiddle, and would probably end up injured or Just A Bit Fed Up.

comeagainforbigfudge · 25/04/2016 21:49

W6r3 done. After a 12hour shift. I must be mad. It was actually ok. Im so surprised i managed to run for 22 mins though!!

Distance is still the same mind you Hmm anyway its done now. Well deserved can of fizzy pop then bed for me Grin

jellycake · 25/04/2016 22:00

Hello, delurking. I've just started back and completed week2 run 1 this morning. I got up to week 5 last summer then got terrible sciatic pain. I got a physio appointment about 2 months ago and it was like seeing a wizard! I'm now pain free and back to it. I've been able to complete all the runs so far so am pleased that I didn't get as unfit as I had feared. It took a lot of work to just finish week 1 last year (at least three weeks) so I was chuffed to bits last week when I could do all the runs without the tears that I started with Grin

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 26/04/2016 07:42

Hi guys
Can I squeeze in.
Tried to do this before but just got a bit lost.
So
App installed and first session last night. Felt fine so feeling positive.
Here's hoping my resolve is better this time Grin

Wenchelda · 26/04/2016 13:50

W2r1 completed this morning. Ran yesterday too and was a bit achey this morning so very nearly didn't go ... The freezing wind put me off greatly but i forced myself out and was glad I did afterwards. I'm also doing a 30 day squat challenge (up to day 8) and a 30 day butt challenge (day 3) and I'd say I definitely felt my bum was less wobbly when running this morning! That alone motivates me to stick at it!

NattyGolfJerkin · 27/04/2016 09:26

hi hobnobs & jelly*

Good to see the rest of us are keeping on too! I'm about to head out for w7r1 without my mate. Bit bummed but it's a nice morning and I've got my headphones at the ready.

Treated myself to a whole load more kit last night as I'm using using the same t-shirt & overhead top every time which means washing is a pain in the proverbial. For some reason, I've got plenty of running tights & capris (though I prefer full length) and hardly any tops Confused. It's like the opposite of my normal wardrobe.

Wenchelda · 27/04/2016 09:51

W2r2 just done. I've ran 3 days in a row now so am a bit pooped but realistically i'm unable to do anything fri-sun so having to fit everything in mon-thurs.

Can I just ask a couple of questions to more experienced runners please? What trainers do you wear? I've just got some Skechers which i already had (not sure of exact type but they have memory foam insoles) and whilst they're not uncomfortable, I'm wondering if something else would be better/more specific for running.

Also can anyone recommend a good album of running music I can download? I don't have anything atm so am relying on the noise birdsong and passing traffic to motivate me! Thanks.

NattyGolfJerkin · 27/04/2016 11:30

I wear Brooks Ravenna, they really suit my foot shape and strike style. I had a gait analysis at a proper running shop and tried about 5 different pairs that were suited to my needs. The Ravennas were the best by far. I've had them a couple of years (I'm on and off the running wagon) and they are brilliant.

As for music, I like a mix. I like stuff that goes at the pace I run at but then I also like old school dance stuff to get me going if I'm flagging - Faithless "Insomnia" is a classic for getting me through the last heinous three minutes.

NattyGolfJerkin · 27/04/2016 11:31

There is '101 running songs' on iTunes, it has a real mix of stuff. Some good slower paced stuff and then good pep ups too.

NattyGolfJerkin · 27/04/2016 11:32

(But prob crap if you are uber trendy young person)

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 27/04/2016 11:59

so another attempt at W1R1
Things that went wrong
stabbing stabbing pain in left leg after run 2, so bad I couldn't put foot to the floor for a minute or so.
I reallly hobbled along for the next walk/run/walk, no one home to come rescue me
I nearly cried.
Every fucker and their stupid dog was out, and lots of cars so we kept having to wait for them to pass
Stupid trainers have given me a blister on my right heel AGAIN

Things that went right
Pain in leg eased, so I did not cry, and I brisk walked though Miss Lahdidah C25K teling me to run now/walk now until it felt normal, and I did manage to run very slowly for the last three, and a nice stretchy walk for the warm down and then carried on until home
It did not blizzard on me
Dogface refrained from pooping once we were going
Left home at 10.28 and back in at 11.19

Not sure I am ever going to get a proper W1R1 done. And I am not going out at half ten again....everyone was out.

SkodaLabia · 27/04/2016 12:16

Oh Tondelay, you poor thing, that sounds awful! I dread seeing anyone I know when I'm trudging along, however I'm hoping to see them all in a few months when I'm a size 10 and bounding along like a spring lamb.

Wenchelda, what app are you using? The One You BBC one is great, as you can play your own music alongside the commentary. There's a choice of four 'trainers'. I'd recommend Sanjeev Kohli as he's very encouraging and I'm a bit in love with him.

I have A Poorly Leg today, so I reckon it's time for a trip to a proper running shop. A podiatrist diagnosed pronation years ago, and the trainers I'm using are supposed to have a stability function, but I think I need to face the humiliation of running on a treadmill in a city centre shop whilst surrounded by nubile young men in lycra (not the shop assistants, the ones I'm going to take with me).
