I started a new thread. Can't link as on phone and have a heat pad on my knee while awaiting my physio apt.

And on your marks.....

Stellar Do you have a shoe recommendation? I'm wearing some generic Reebok trainers. I had a look in Sports Direct yesterday where they had some Nike Downshifters, labelled as running shoes, for £30.
They seemed ok? My joints seem to be fine so far, but I do go very slowly as I have osteopenia and can't afford too much jarring.

comeagainforbigfudge · 13/04/2016 12:23

0ellen i went to a running shoe specialist shop. Got "fitted" and tried a few different styles etc. Didnt buy from the shop but took notes of what i needed re over pronating etc and found what i needed cheaper online (last seasons versions basically) BlushGrin

Week 9 Run 3 completed this morning in the sunshine - so have officially finished C25K at last!

Map My Run measured my distance at 4.99kms annoyingly - but close enough I guess Wink.

Going forward, I'm going to continue running for 30 minutes at a time and aim to pick up a bit of speed!

Stellar67 · 13/04/2016 13:24

I did get my feet checked but had hurt my knee and the physio gave me a brilliant run down of what to wear. I got myself some insoles as I have flat feet.

I go along to the shops and get checked, try on some pairs but I always ask for the sales. I'm not fussed what season I'm wearing Smile

Or find a couple of pairs your like and go home and find them online.

I am wearing asics just now. But I've had brooks and new balance before. And karrimor.

Very well done Santa! How are you feeling?

I wear (very bright) Brooks Ravenna. Brilliant. I was fitted at a proper running shop (gait thingy). They suit me to the ground. Before that I was wearing Nikes but they weren't as supportive for my foot shape.

NattyGolfJerkin · 13/04/2016 14:59

Well done santa Wine. WOOOOOOO.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 13/04/2016 15:05

Thank you Stellar and Natty Grin.

My legs are quite achy but I'm really happy that I've actually finished it! I'm not sure I ever believed I could at the start - Week 1 Day 1 was really hard for me! Blush

0ellenbrody0 · 13/04/2016 15:06

Thanks for shoe advice everyone! santa well done on your graduation.

W5R1 done. I ran for 20 mins!!!! I was SO thrilled with myself! The last 3 mins is slightly downhill so I managed to up the pace a little, but I still did it very very slowly.

NattyGolfJerkin · 13/04/2016 15:06

You give us all hope Grin

NattyGolfJerkin · 13/04/2016 15:07

And you ellen. Wayheyyyy! Well done. Celebratory Wine for you too.

KeepOnPlodding · 13/04/2016 21:28

Well done Santa and Ellen! SmileWineThanksSmileWineThanksSmile

I went out this morning and managed 4miles in a bit of a plod/walk combination. I had downloaded a new app which I hated and then managed to accidentally turn off half way through so just tried to keep going. Despite being painfully slow I felt quite chuffed considering that I couldn't run for 2 minute back in January.

For the PP, I wear Asics Gel Nimbus and they seem to suit me. They were expensive and next time I would try to get the same shoes but cheaper online. It makes no difference to me whether they are last seasons or not.

SkodaLabia · 14/04/2016 10:57

Can I ask a quick shoe question? Is it recommended to have two pairs, of different makes/styles on the go at once? Just thinking, my feet are pretty vulnerable (tendency towards blisters and previous history of plantar fasciitis, plus I'm v heavy) and I'm wondering if I should be avoiding using the same shoes all the time.

comeagainforbigfudge · 14/04/2016 19:10

Youd be best getting advice from running specialists skoda. But my tuppence worth would be, if the shoe fits well you shouldnt get blisters. And do your stretches after runs. (So just one pair of trainers)

I went out and did w5r2. Just went for it even though havent been out in over a week. I survived. The 2nd 8min run was really really hard and im sure is still be faster walking but i plodded on through and finished it.

Scared what next run will bring Sad

SkodaLabia · 15/04/2016 09:50

Well done fudge, I honestly can't imagine running for 8 minutes!

W1R3 completed here by Team Skoda. Knackered.

0ellenbrody0 · 15/04/2016 11:55

Good job comeagain ! Bizarrely I found the 20 mins non stop easier than the 2x8. I think that getting going again after a walk is harder.
I need to start W 6, which I notice is back to 5 min runs. It seems like a step back, is it an injury prevention thing I wonder?
I will do that tomorrow as I'm off to get my hair done (and its piddling down here). There is a running shop near the hairdressers that has a treadmill for gait analysis. I'm tempted to pop in, especially now I know I can and will, carry on running.

SkodaLabia · 15/04/2016 12:20

Were any of you significantly overweight when you were doing the long runs? I'm a size 16 - 18 and v heavy, I can't imagine my legs (or the pavement!) would cope with 20 mins of running.

KeepOnPlodding · 15/04/2016 12:21

0Ellen I think the drop back to run/walk is fairly typical of a lot of training programmes which have one day a week where you keep increasing your time/distance and then a couple of shorter runs.

As the programme goes on the shorter runs get longer but are still shorter than the long runs (if that makes any sense at all?) Smile

KeepOnPlodding · 15/04/2016 12:24

Skoda I am carrying extra weight (similar size to you) and it is possible. And the pavements are fine!

I suspect it would be easier if I were a bit lighter but I've decided I'll worry about that once I have made regular running a habit.

SkodaLabia · 15/04/2016 13:46

Yes Plodding, I'm with you on that. I'm really enjoying the way that running is making me feel, and I don't want to have the downer of restricting nice foods just yet. I'm hoping that just running will help me get lighter for now.

0ellenbrody0 · 15/04/2016 17:21

So.........i went into the running shop and had my gait analysed.......£115 later, I've got some proper running shoes. £115! £115! Omfg!!!!!!

SkodaLabia · 15/04/2016 17:32

Ooh! What did you get? I got my trainers online, because I had a podiatrist appointment a while ago and she covered stuff like over pronation with me. There's a huge difference in price it seems, and last year's colours seem to go for much less.

0ellenbrody0 · 15/04/2016 17:53

I got some Asics, now I know they are ok, I will be able to buy online in the future as I don't really care about colours.

I told my DH that it's worth it as it's cheaper than gym membership! They will pay for themselves in about 3 1/2 months Grin I have bone density problems in my left hip so I'm very conscious about protecting myself.

NattyGolfJerkin · 15/04/2016 18:34

W5R2 done. I don't normally run with people, I like to escape into my music and concentrate on what I'm doing. Plus I'm aware that I'm a novice and don't want to hold anyone else back. However, I ran with a friend today who was looking for a running chum. She runs on a treadmill normally so I was a bit worried about us being mismatched or me letting her down pace wise. Luckily, we got it together and after starting a bit fast we managed to pull it back and I really enjoyed it.

NattyGolfJerkin · 15/04/2016 18:36

Have you taken the new shoes out for a spin yet, ellen?
