fifty colleague returned to Bedford today and was faster than last so is vet happy. He say next week say hello to "the old man in blue wheezing his way round " :)

MelanieCheeks · 20/02/2016 17:16

Well done all! I had a successful scanning duty morning, and then went for a monthly brunch-with-the-girls do where there were TraybakesTheSizeOfYourHead. Smile

parkrunners old and new come and chat all things parkrun.
Knackerelli · 20/02/2016 17:29

Well done blackcat and cheap! In fact, congratulations all around!

melanie I was round your way this week, but let DH book the flights so managed to miss all parkruns :-( love the thought of Portrush parkrun but running along ballycastle beach was lovely. Even included sprint training as I avoided the waves!

steppemum · 20/02/2016 17:30

well done all you speedy people!

No running for me. I ran on Mon at normal speed instead of the slowed down speed I've been doing since Jan, and my knee was very painful on mon pm and Tues. So I have reluctantly decided to go to gp and to rest it more. I might sneak out for a slow run in the week, but I cannot run parkrun slowly as I get too competitive, won't let the 40 pacer overtake me and then sprint for the finish Blush

looks like it might be 50 in the year I am 50, instead of 50 before I am 50.

16 down, 34 to go, one year exactly to do it in, with lots of saturdays out due to work etc.

MelanieCheeks · 20/02/2016 17:37

Aw, knacker, shame you missed Portrush! (you will be back, yes?)

Hope you got to try some of Ballycastle's finest ice cream pokes Grin

Knackerelli · 20/02/2016 17:52

Oh don't worry, I'll be back! DH's best mate lives in ballycastle so we visit when we can, the kids are already asking to go back in the summer! ( and this time, I'll book the flights!)

Ice cream pokes? I need to know more! Had a lovely salad in Bert and bens

Knackerelli · 20/02/2016 18:02

Bottom? Bottle! Blush

MelanieCheeks · 20/02/2016 18:04

A poke is a cone. There is a verrr verr good ice cream shop in Ballycastle beside the harbour (usually a queue out the door). Summer would be a super time to come back - get the ferry over to Rathlin island (actually, there's Rathlin 10 mile run at some stage...let me go research...)

MelanieCheeks · 20/02/2016 18:06

It's in August.

Rathlin run

FiftyNineOhEight · 20/02/2016 18:17

Well done speedy lego sadly your colleague's description doesn't particularly narrows it down Smile Tell him to look for the woman on the bike in a 50 tee-shirt who usually arrives at the last minute Grin

We had 380 runners today, which I think is a record.

Knackerelli · 20/02/2016 19:36

melanie have sampled ice cream from Maud's and morellis which are by the harbour. Both are fab!

Ooh, very tempted by the rathlin race! Are you doing it? Have to you seen the times? The last one in last year was 48mins!

MelanieCheeks · 20/02/2016 21:22

I'm very tempted to do it this year-some of my running club did it last year and loved it! 48 mins was for the 5km, there's something wrong with the link to results, but 2 years ago there were people doing the 10 miles in 2 hours ish. Pencil it in, shall we?

karatekimmi · 21/02/2016 02:48

Some great running guys.

Mark Vaz officially became the world record holder for most marathons completed - 240 in 219 days. He was at our parkrun a few weeks ago. It is ridiculous how he must be fitting them in!

I managed a slow amble round with the double pushchair, then was supposed to do 14 miles more, but only managed 10 ish before I phoned my DH to pick me up.

miked99 · 21/02/2016 08:40

It was a humid 25C in Sydney yesterday morning, so I was pretty pleased that I managed 25 and a half minutes , and my son 21 and a half minutes, thankfully they were giving out bottled water at the finish.
My sister in law, over from NZ on a business trip joined us for her first ever parkrun.
She won her age category, and hurt her achilles tendon, so has been limping around all day. Not sure if she will be a convert or not !

Knackerelli · 21/02/2016 14:23

Hope your SIL is ok miked I can't imagine running in 25 degree heat!

melanie did reclick the link as thought it was super speedy! Def pencil it in as an option I'd like to do, just need to see if finances and RL agree!

feetheart · 21/02/2016 17:21

karate - he started his record-breaking run with us on Saturday then ran most of the rest with some of our lot who were doing marathon training. Madness! Lovely bloke and rather bashful of all the fuss we were making with announcements, cheers, photos etc :o

Melanie - we were devastated when the Mauds near my parents closed down :(

steppe - have you been to a sports physio to find out what exactly is wrong? Worth the expense to find out, get treated and be given exercises to sort it out. GPs are great but not v clued up on sports injuries.

59 - had a few Luton people at Bedford today who had a good run and said you had an attendance record :)
We are now getting a number of people from SA as we are much less crowded and no chance of getting shoved in the lake :)

Actually glad I was Timer yesterday instead of running - got to cheer everyone, including the super-fast guy who was going for our record (and missed it by 6 secs), Mark Vaz and his mate and all the Dunstable runners who were out in force inspite of having their awards evening the night before and looked rather green :o

Also saw 2 of the new 'apricot' t-shirts which looked lovely. Mine is 'in the post'

FiftyNineOhEight · 21/02/2016 19:12

miked great to have you posting from so faraway - is that your usual parkrun?

feet I think Wimpole was closed, so we had quite a few runners from there yesterday.

Wow, just wow at the thought of so many marathons. More than one a day for almost a year! I'm not sure if he is the same person who ran the Bedford Half in December, and then went round for a second lap.

chutneypig · 21/02/2016 19:50

Sounds like it's been a busy weekend for everyone. Great to hear all the tales.

Bushy was wonderful, we really enjoyed it and I had a great chat in the funnel (while totally in awe of the organisation involved) with a mum and her six year old with a 50 shirt. Beautiful park and a great spectacle with so many runners.

Very sadly the police were there as we were leaving - they looked very troubled and they'd had a report of a body in the fountain just after nine. Very sad to think of the poor soul there while we all went past to the start.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/02/2016 20:47

14 miles after a parkrun karatekimmi Shock

Yes nt made them cancel as the car park was in a bad state apparently FifyNineOhEight! Attendance record is always good.

59 yes I'm in Sydney, but have been a parkrun tourist in the UK last summer.
Curl Curl is my usual parkrun, but there are quite a few in the Sydney area and there's a competition for people to run 7 of the Sydney parkrun courses in a day on the Winter Solstice.
That's a bit beyond my abilities I'm afraid.

FiftyNineOhEight · 24/02/2016 09:02

7 parkruns in one day

Think of all the cake you could eat though!

I am very happy. DS1 is coming home for the weekend and rang last night to check we are going to parkrun. My work is complete Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 25/02/2016 07:50

Oh that's nasty, Cinnamon, was he a parkrunner? or just upset at all these runners disturbing his walk?

chutneypig · 27/02/2016 16:00

Oh that's horrid cinnamon. I hope you can put it from your mind but it's hard.

Hope you had a good run with DS FiftyNine.

After they found the body at Bushy last week during parkrun, we were nearer home today and one of the parkrun supporters found a body in the woods near the course. The ambulance had just arrived as we finished. So sad.
