what is OCR?

Hi Thomas - I am a long way from 30 mins! (37 is my best, but slow at the moment due to bad knee)

HalleLouja · 14/02/2016 20:23

I am a bit in love with Cassiobury parkrun. Flat, not too busy and friendly without a lake. I was even considering moving to Watford.... Did it with DS and met a lovely man with his son.

HalleLouja · 14/02/2016 20:28

Well done feet on your award. I am coming back soon. An Arrow visited yesterday and was very impressed with minifeet and friend doing the talk before the run. Cake

cinnamongreyhound · 14/02/2016 20:55

Not really feetheart, the wifi isn't working in the place we're staying so he's cut off from the world and everything is boring and rubbish! The joys of being 14, my three are loving it here, although Ds3 hasn't been right for a couple of days and was very sick today. Hoping that has got it out of his system and he'll be back to his usual happy baby self! Have fun with your photos!

Welcome Thomas Smile

ThomasRichard · 14/02/2016 22:08

Thankyou :)

steppemum OCR is obstacle course racing. I've done quite a few and found them great fun and brilliant for trying out a race atmosphere without worrying about being slower than everyone else. There are different waves so no one has any idea when someone started running and just when I think I can't run anymore I get to stop to do an obstacle. No coordination required, although I did one last week that involved kayaking! I got to wave at the very fit men in the canoe infront of me as I passed them by, trying to work out how to steer it Grin They left me for dust back on dry land but never mind... If anyone fancies trying one, the Race for Life Pretty Muddy ones are a good intro.

5yo DS did the Wardown parkrun with me a couple of weeks ago (and beat me by miles going up that slope to the museum!) and will be doing a Spartan junior OCR in April. He loved parkrun and wants to come with me every week.

MelanieCheeks · 15/02/2016 07:17

Congrats on teh award, feetheart!

Portrush started on the far side of the stream, with an added loop, so no bridge required.

DH took me to Sports Direct for Valentines day, so I have a lovely new running outfit to wear!

HalleLouja · 15/02/2016 08:48

Welcome Thomas you can't be too far from me either. I am nearer SA parkrun but not too far from Luton.

FiftyNineOhEight · 15/02/2016 16:22

Hello Thomas I'm not far from Luton Wardown either Smile

A few of us from this thread and another one banded together to do a WOLF run 2 years ago. Some of us were mad enough to do it again last year! There's usually a Pretty Muddy in my town, some of my parkrun gang and I are thinking of doing it this year.

Your DH sounds like a right sweetheart Melanie Grin. Loved your blog, as usual.

cinners as the fellow owner of a 14YO I feel your pain. Mine has failed even to get dressed yet today and is plugged into phone and laptop Smile Glad you made it to parkrun, sounds like an adventure

chutney fab running by your DCs!

Thursday you are amazing for getting out there and volunteering Smile well done!

Hello to anyone I have missed, I can't scroll back to the previous page.

FiftyNineOhEight · 15/02/2016 16:25

really hope you are feeling better!

cheap talk to me about trail shoes, I'm toying with getting some, but I run on roads to my local country park aka mud bath so need something that will work on both surfaces. I got lots of advice on the running thread a few weeks ago but didn't get round to doing anything with the advice!

MelanieCheeks · 16/02/2016 17:54

Hey, my picture of the last of the fifteens made it into this week's parkrun Uk album!

chutneypig · 16/02/2016 19:05

I was just this second coming on to say I'd seen the fifteens on FB. Fame Grin.

FiftyNine I've just bitten the bullet and ordered some trail shoes whilst I was accommodating the enormous growing state of DS feet. I seem to spend a fortune on his shotes. My Sweatshop order added up a bit Blush. But the trail shoes were only £18 with another twenty percent off. Worth a punt.

FiftyNineOhEight · 17/02/2016 09:07

I thnk i wil have to get some chutney, I was out in our country park yesterday and was slipping and sliding all over the place. I could stay on the proper path around the lake, but that wouldn't be as nice (and would make the run either shorter, or boring as I'd have to do laps of the lake) as getting into the woods and the meadows.

chutneypig · 17/02/2016 20:45

You don't want boring FiftyNine! Mine arrrived yesterday, they feel good at first try so the proof will be in the testing.

cinnamongreyhound · 18/02/2016 07:46

My adidas kanadia were cheap and seemed to hold up fine to some road running FiftyNineOhEight

standingonlego · 18/02/2016 22:52

I am really pleased with my brookes cascadia 10s fifty

FiftyNineOhEight · 19/02/2016 09:53

Right, trail shoes it is - I tried somewhere new yesterday and it was really really lovely, but so so muddy (would have helped if I'd managed to stay on the path, but missed a sign).

chutney I feel your pain with growing boys. I swear I spend more on their clothes and shoes that DH and I spend between us Grin

chutneypig · 20/02/2016 07:00

One word from me this morning - Bushy Grin

One marginal saving grace with running kit is that if I buy smart it can pass down from DS to DD even though they're twins, he's always been a bit bigger.

feetheart · 20/02/2016 07:37

Oooo chutney enjoy :)
I need to look at the MN Bushy trip planner and fill it in.
Also need to plan a trip to InterCounty Cross Country Championships in Birmingham in March (to watch my niece representing Lancashire - proud :)) that includes a parkrun en route.

Was hoping to run today but I'm Timer instead as we are slightly lacking in volunteers this week, after an insane and brilliant 27 last week!
But we have Mark Vaz, 400 marathons in 365 days man, starting at our parkrun today so I get an excuse to cheer him and everyone else round

Happy parkrunday everyone :)

MelanieCheeks · 20/02/2016 07:50

That sounds exciting, feet. I'm volunteering this morning, but I dont think we have a celebrity starter.Smile

MyBlackCat · 20/02/2016 10:46

Today was one of those days where everything clicked. I achieved a parkrun ambition of being the first female finisher and not because the fast people weren't there, I just ran faster Grin so so pleased with myself and my shiny new PB

cheapandcheerful · 20/02/2016 11:26

Well done myblackcat! That's brilliant!

Well, I achieved my short-term goal of running the entire course today for the first time. Even the killer hill on the second lap, so I'm happy with that!

Also, anyone considering getting trail shoes for muddy runs should totally do it! I got mine on Wednesday following last week's bog-run and they made such a difference.

cinnamongreyhound · 20/02/2016 12:02

Fastest time this year, woo hoo! And that was with a wee and a poo stop from the dog and a lace stop for me.

Well done MyBlackCat!

I'm thinking of cancelling my course on 12th as that's our birthday run and doing my 100 the same day. Is that really terrible?

OP posts:
FiftyNineOhEight · 20/02/2016 12:26

cinnamon that is a dreadful idea because it's all about meee I won't be able to come if you do. A group of us are doing a night run at Wimpole that evening and so I am volunteering at home that morning Grin. Only joking, of course you must, 100 and a birthday sound a great combination, and I will still come the week after.

Well done BlackCat

And to you too cheap

feet I am torn between awe at Mark Vaz's marathons and horror at what it must be doing to his body and the rest of his life Grin. Congrats to your niece!

Envy chutney all agog at waiting to hear how it was Grin

I had an OK run, I was feeling Thursday's 10 mile undulating run in my calves, and had to nip to the loo on the first lap, but powered round and ended up finishing with the people I started with Smile

standingonlego · 20/02/2016 13:29

Lots of awesome running today!

FrIend and I both not 100% today so agreed to have a social parkrun and chatted non-stop for first 2.5k catching up on the half term news - we were surprised to get times of 27.07-27.10 so were going faster than we thought!

We are both chasing identical PBs, so next week is planned to be a fast one :)
