Agree with everyone EmpressOfTheSevenOceans! We rarely have walkers but the tail runner is happy to support no matter the pace of the last runner, in fact we've had weeks when they've been annoyed they've had to go too fast Wink. We have a regular lady who had a heart attack and has been told not to run so she's been volunteering. She's doing the c25k now she's allowed to exercise again, and I cannot convince her to come along and run walk, she doesn't want to hold everybody up, I'm very sad I can't persuade her that no one will mind!

We're on holiday Saturday to Saturday feetheart so dh is proving difficult to persuade I should do a parkrun the day we leave! I have entered a 5k on the weds evening though Blush

I worry about that cinnamon the entire field laps me Blush I hope any newbies struggling will be motivated by the fat lass behind them though!

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 09/08/2016 18:58

Thanks cinnamon.

Pidjin! Hello, how's the crochet?

chutneypig · 09/08/2016 19:08

I second, third and fourth what everyone's said Empress. I was the slowest runner in my year at school, put me off exercise for twenty years. C25k cracked it for me.

I love tailrunning, my favourite volunteer role too. Poor you feet but good to see you'll be flying the tourism flag.

I brightly announced at work today that it was nearly my fiftieth but only one of my colleagues knew what I meant!

Chutney Grin

PurplePidjin · 09/08/2016 23:11

Chutney :o

Hi Empress going slow now I have small folks underfoot Wink I'm halfway through an Iggle Piggle! How are the ducks?

standingonlego · 10/08/2016 04:07

londonmummy I ran as a tourist at Forest of Dean a few weeks ago. It is a lovely course, friendly volunteers and they have tea & coffee at the finish line. Take your 50p donation with you

standingonlego · 10/08/2016 04:09

blathers great news about your DH and huge cheers for your cow course Smile

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 10/08/2016 07:56

How are the ducks?

Still screwy buggers Grin.

Congrats on the small folk!

feetheart · 10/08/2016 08:59

Purple - chances are you are being used to encourage more people to join in, in a "look, she does parkrun and walks it so you can too" (or a "look she does parkrun and walks it so I can too")
That's what I do :)

NoDramaForTheLlama · 10/08/2016 09:07

I am going to be a walker when I go back. I love park run and am a bit of a tourist but a stress fracture and liver failure have put paid to any running for me for the foreseeable! Looking forward to hobbling round in a couple of weeks though!

PurplePidjin · 10/08/2016 11:01

feet I've done two so far and one of those was as tail "runner"!

feetheart · 10/08/2016 11:10

Brilliant Purple - Tail Runner is one of the important jobs for encouraging those who think they can't do a parkrun.
We actually saw our Tail Runner jog for about 20m on Saturday, we were shocked as that hardly ever happens :o

feetheart · 10/08/2016 11:13

NoDrama - Shock that's rather a lot to cope with! parkrun is amazing :)

MelanieCheeks · 11/08/2016 18:22

Minnie has a sore paw. So no running for her this week. Tim Page, the 4-time cancer survivor currently completing the Norn Irn set for a leukemia charity is doing nearby Colin Glen this week. I was first lady last time I ran there...but that was a few months ago. It was a special one as it completed the NI set for me. But I'm way off form, and without Minnie there's no way I could PB. So I've offered instead to run alongside Tim and be his cheerleader. I keep saying "there's more to running than going fast".

londonmummy1966 · 11/08/2016 19:29

Melanie I couldn't agree more - I'm tail running this week as there hasn't been one at our parkrun for the last two weeks and there is a rather nasty hill that some of the newer runners find quite daunting. (Good excuse for me to not run all the way up it too....)

PurplePidjin · 11/08/2016 20:08

Melanie poor Minnie but that sounds like a fun way to run!

I also have a sore paw, a wasp got me on Monday and the swelling is only just going down! I still don't have any decent shoes either...

swampytiggaa · 11/08/2016 20:34

I'm running on Saturday. I will be encouraging my friend round and hopefully she will get a new pb :) aiming for under 36 minutes.

Melanie I haven't run for a pb for ages - my friend has been ill and gets disheartened if she runs on her own and gives up so I run with her encouraging and cheer leading her. Would rather finish towards the back with her than finish a couple of minutes quicker and find out she gave up half way.

Blatherskite · 12/08/2016 16:44

No parkrun this weekend as I'm working at an OCR. I will get to run that hopefully though.

Hoping to postpone my 50th event so that I can con-incide it with my brother's Grin

LisaMumsnet · 12/08/2016 16:48

That's what I love most about our local parkrun - there is no pressure to run if you'd rather walk as they wait for EVERYONE! Everyone gathers round chatting at the end to cheer the slower ones in so it makes it really sociable. I think PSH should be knighted for what he's done to encourage so many people to attempt running.

Blatherskite · 12/08/2016 17:18

Exactly Lisa. It's all about participating not times.

MyBlackCat · 12/08/2016 17:59

I'm planning a tourist run at Long Eaton tomorrow, trying to get to all the runs within an hour of me Smile

Blatherskite · 12/08/2016 18:26

Have you had a play with the tourist tool MyBlackCat?

lastqueenofscotland · 12/08/2016 20:15

I was going to do some tourism but my apricot t-shirt arrived so going to HAVE to do my home run to christen it! I'm going with a friend who's a bit steady (30 mins ish) so just going to jog round with her and have a nice breakfast after.

MyBlackCat · 12/08/2016 21:55

I hadn't blathers but loving it, lots more around me to try Smile
