chutney - there are various sites that sell 2nd hand running stuff - Run Mummy Run and Running Gear Buy and Sell are two that come to mind. If you keep you eye out you can often find 2nd hand Garmins as people upgrade. Ended up getting DS's from a parkrun friend and it's a better spec than mine Hmm

chutneypig · 03/07/2016 20:30

Ooooo that's a great idea, that hadn't occurred to me. Thanks feet.

I find it far harder to get DD running clothes than I do DS swampy. No idea why. I marshalled today too but was luckily near the funnel to see DSs PB.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/07/2016 14:52

I can't remember if I posted so forgive me if I'm repeating myself!
I posted a lovely photo of my new peach parkrun top on our fb page. It reached nearly 1,500 people! We have 700+ like our page and often only reach 90-120 in posts. It seems there has been much discussion about my boobs and perhaps in appropriate wording on my post (I said something along the lines 'is anyone else waiting for one of these beauties). One of my rd's has asked if she can use my boobs when asking for volunteers in future Blush. I was obvious to this until Saturday! Anyway the point being that we believe a photo reaches more people than just a word post, rd this week took a photo of someone sorting tokens and has used it for his volunteer request this week and we have reached 244. Anyone any experience?

A picture is indeed worth a thousand words!

Have a great parkrun day, all, I'm in the high fizzy vest today.

feetheart · 09/07/2016 12:36

Pictures with cute kids or animals reach even further. Just put this up from today :)

All ready to run today but the RD had an emergency call from work at 8:45am so I got to wear the blue and white vest of power instead. All went smoothly so it wasn't too onerous and I got to see quite a few of my beginners group run.
At least I won't have any responsibilities when we run at Chichester next w/e.

Anyone run at Fell Foot parkrun in the Lake District? We are up there in the summer and that's the closest to where we are camping because I looked up parkruns before looking for campsites :o

Excellent holiday planning feet Grin

I volunteered today. It was humid and showery, but we still had over 360 runners.

How did everyone else get on?

chutneypig · 09/07/2016 13:19

Very soggy tailrunning for us today. Great fun but I've not known a wetter parkrun.

It's an important part of holiday planning, bet it'll be lovely feet. Great photo.

Giggling at the beauties comment cinnamon. Reminds me of when I said I was taking the twins out for a run and had a few misinterpretations of that!

swampytiggaa · 09/07/2016 16:46

I did my first parkrun in a while after injury today :) took it slow with a friend - finished in just under 40 minutes. Volunteering at juniors tomorrow with my 10 year old :)

MelanieCheeks · 09/07/2016 18:05

On scanning duty-many many uncooperative soggy barcodes! But we got them all sorted, took a jazz hands photo of a 100-er, who was also helping to trial run a wheelchair/ running vehicle which was donated to us ( and it's brilliant!) and I also snapped a poncho wearing volunteer for this week's Parkrun uk fashion themed showcase.

cinnamongreyhound · 09/07/2016 20:47

We had an unaccompanied 10 year old finish first 😭
It was apparently his last time at our parkrun and he felt he could get a pb so his dad let him go. 'He's 11 in 2 weeks' and 'he was near that bloke all the way through' were his two excuses! He was disappointed but not too arsey but seriously!?! The boy out his hand up to identify he was under 11 at the start and listened to the briefing about how important it is to be within grabbing distance and then ignored it all 😡Angry. Other than that a pleasant if wet parkrun.

All the bullshit excuses in one sentence cinnamon AngryShockHmm

UnfitMotherr · 09/07/2016 21:53

I did my first parkrun today! I thought I was going to die.

I used to go to the gym about 8 years ago and arse around on a running machine for 15 minutes (I believe preparation is very important), so I am a complete novice.

I loved it (&hated it!) and I didn't come last...6 people slower Grin

Roll on next week

chutneypig · 10/07/2016 05:58

Great to hear swampy and enjoy today too. What role are you doing?

DSs plastic barcode wouldn't scan yesterday Melanie, I felt for the scanners and the people handing out tokens, the rain was bad enough tailrunning but at least I didn't have to do anything dexterous!

How infuriating cinnamon. Makes life difficult for you, which is poor given the effort all you RDs put in and what message does it send to the child as well? I'm not sure we didn't have one yesterday looking at the ages in the results - two girls, one was 11-14 one not. So difficult to tell looking, I think it was their first time so maybe some confusion there but I'll keep an eye out.

Well done UnfitMotherr, roll on next week is definitely getting into the parkrun spirit Grin

FiftyNineOhEight · 10/07/2016 20:01

Angry cinners it makes me so cross when 99.9% of people follow the rules and them someone comes along who doesn't.

Welcome to the parkrun family UnfitMotherrr soon you will be name changing to Fitmotherr Smile

I was on tokens yesterday, I love seeing all the runners come in and the look of triumph on so many faces whether they finish is 18 minutes or 45.

We are planning to go away next weekend and lovely DH remembered how much I liked Fountains Abbey and has booked us into a B&B there so I can go again Star Halo

Blatherskite · 11/07/2016 21:10

Hooray! Made it to parkrun tonight* and managed the whole thing comfortably for the first time in what feels like forever. Even had to slow down for DS a few times!! It wasn't one of my faster runs but just being able to get round without something hurting or feeling like I want to cry is amazing progress.

*trial run of the new Linford Wood parkrun which is why it was at an odd time.

GeoffreysGoat · 11/07/2016 22:43

💐 yay blathers

Ds1 didn't run this week then threw a tantrum because daddy went without him Hmm and it looks like he needs new trainers again already! Luckily he's now into a 10 so I can get him properly fitted in a sports shop instead of relying on Clarks who can be a bit hit and miss

UnfitMotherr · 12/07/2016 22:33

Don't see a time anyone will refer to me as a FitMotherr but you live in hope!

I'm so impressed by the children that are doing these runs. It's definitely something I'll encourage mine to do (as soon as I improve enough to beat them)

Oh and I've finally started to stop aching!

cinnamongreyhound · 13/07/2016 12:37

Welcome Unfitmotherr!

Yay for your dh FiftyNineOhEight!

Exciting trying a new route blatherskite, well done on your run.

Blatherskite · 13/07/2016 14:01

DH has just said that actually, he'd like to run the inaugural Linford Wood parkrun this Saturday Shock

Yes, the same DH who usually resents all things parkrun!!

I'm so shocked/pleased that I'm even going to let him Wink I'll volunteer with DD instead Grin

chutneypig · 14/07/2016 06:34

Excellent news all round Blathers, sounds like a new era is opening up!

The contrariness of little ones Geoffrey, bet he'll be out of the door like a shot this weekend. I hadn't thought about trainers for his size, great you're moving on to having more options.

Fountains Abbey sounds wonderful Fifty, how nice of DH.

It's a great motivator when everyone wants to go to parkrun Unfitmotherr. I've just swallowed my pride on the being slower than them front. Are your children looking keen?

FiftyNineOhEight · 15/07/2016 19:49

Our weekend away got cancelled Sad

So I can run at home tomorrow Smile

chutneypig · 16/07/2016 08:00

That's a shame Fifty but every cloud and all..... Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 16/07/2016 11:01

Think I got food poisoning Sad spent all evening being sick and felt far too weak and wobbly to run this morning. Missing parkrun! On the plus side my neighbour went without me so that was her first solo parkrun!

OP posts:
swampytiggaa · 16/07/2016 11:27

Oh no cinnamongreyhound x hope you feel better soon x

I did run number 9 today - first proper one since injury. Did 32.51 so quite pleased with that. I walked a few times - was really muggy and I was struggling a bit.

Still. A milestone run next week! Woo hoo!

MelanieCheeks · 16/07/2016 17:46

Get better soon, Cinners.

Enjoy your 10th next week, Tigga!

I had a so-so run at my home event. Only found afterwards that the volunteer crew had a minor meltdown when the finish tokens fell on the ground and had to be speedily re-ordered before the first runner crossed the line!
