^ tomorrow, and if not. I can spell, especially when wine is not affecting my typing Grin

chutneypig · 02/07/2016 05:54

I like mornings Fifty, it was just like an earlier parkrun Grin. Loads of parkrunners there too. Great atmosphere.

My longest post class soreness was after my first yoga class. And it's so deceptive at the time!

I'm still undecided about parkrun this morning, it's been a tiring week but that fifty t shirt is beckoning,

standingonlego · 02/07/2016 08:21

I am not going to make it fifty Blush

standingonlego · 02/07/2016 11:42

Time pressure and navigational confidence sent me to Daventry rather than Bedford today on the end. It was a lovely course, 1 lap mostly trail round country park and reserviour. A few bottlenecks early on, but a great briefing abd friendly team. Busy for them today with both Northampton and Coventry cancelled, lots of tourists. I will make it to you at some point fiftynine and you other lovely folk

HalleLouja · 02/07/2016 12:11

My second run at Ellenbrook. Its growing on me and is nice and flat. Felt hard today as did a long long walk run last week.

Nice photo on your page feet.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/07/2016 12:57

I have tried to change back to one of my old names as it was parkrun number 123 for me today Smile

lego we must fix another date when feet, Halle and Blathers can come as well (and anyone else in the neighbourhood - these are just the people I know are near enough Smile)

I was super-slow today, a combination of a crazy week at work, a couple of late nights and a loo stop on the first lap and a small hangover

MelanieCheeks · 02/07/2016 13:01

The weather looked kind so I went for it at Larne. Met someone else who had just completed running all the NI ones, Minnie's t shirt was admired, there was a great 100 cake, and I managed a pb! And the odd spot of drizzle was fine for running in-my home event was drenched, poor things.

MyBlackCat · 02/07/2016 13:35

Well done to everyone that ran today. I wore my 50 t-shirt with pride and got round in under 30 minutes which I was pleased with, finished strongly. Just seen on Facebook a women running her 100th at 40+ weeks pregnant in 28 mins Shock I bow down in appreciation. I'm not sure I'll be running until 40 weeks Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 02/07/2016 17:31

I ran to the day before my due date MyBlackCat but I think my time went down to 32+mins by that point!

I was tail runner today :) 46.37. my lovely friend kept me company along with a lady carrying a bit of an injury. Was a nice reintroduction to parkrun following my injury.

Planning on running next week - volunteering at juniors tomorrow :)

GeoffreysGoat · 02/07/2016 19:34

I thought I'd checked thoroughly but does anyone know if there's a lower age limit for accompanied running at parkrun? Ds1 was (very politely) refused a token this morning as it had apparently been mentioned by other runners that he's not old enough. But the only rule I can see is that they need to be 4 to run unaccompanied at junior, this was senior and he holds dh's hand most of the time. I guess the line between buggy and running independently is blurry as children develop at different rates, but he was able to walk the distance at not quite two so we know he's up to it now iyswim

Blatherskite · 02/07/2016 20:35

Missed parkrun this morning as I have the bug that's going round Sad Will miss juniors tomorrow too. Even climbing the stairs makes me cough!

Not sure on the lower age limit Geoffrey but I can consult the parkrun wiki for you....

Blatherskite · 02/07/2016 20:43

OK, this is in the public FAQ - "Children must be aged 4 and over to register and obtain their own barcode." so I would say that if your DS is under 4 then no, he shouldn't get a token as he is too young to have his own barcode and is therefore unable to claim a finish position.

UKA doesn't like children under 11 running 5k events at all and we're only allowed to have them at events if they're doing it for fun and not being pushed.

4 is the younger limit for juniors too so he'd not be able to officially run there either.

cinnamongreyhound · 02/07/2016 20:44

It's 4 GeoffreysGoat, more because I think they don't want to encourage children to be running that distance too young. There is already some controversy over under 11's doing 5k. I had a little girl who is 4 in 3 weeks, I know her mum so told her she wouldn't be able to have a barcode. She took a token and got the token scanned but is an unknown. I think if he's done it he should get a token and position even if he's too young to get a barcode and therefore a time.

Thank you, dh is a member of the local running club so has been taking advice from them (as well as me here) to make sure he's not overdoing anything. They walk as well as run, I think I must just have a very strange motivated child! Up till now he's either scanned as unknown or once on mine - I made him a lanyard with both our barcodes on in case he ever did get separated; it identifies him as with that group and has mine and my (local) Mum's phone numbers on. Obviously we'll abide by whatever organisers want to do!

GeoffreysGoat · 02/07/2016 21:04

I'll be getting him his own wristband for his birthday with his own barcode btw. Luckily he's young enough to be fobbed off with a generic park run tee shirt till he meets his official milestones 😉

GeoffreysGoat · 02/07/2016 21:10

"Please note that juniors must be able to complete the course themselves to have their barcode scanned. Being carried or pushed around in a buggy or pushchair doesn’t count, and bikes and scooters are not allowed at parkrun events."

He does. He walked, with encouragement and lots of splashing in puddles, the winter course before his 2nd birthday. For the hell of it.

Thank you, my conscience is eased and we'll leave it to the RD's discretion whether he gets a token or not

FiftyNineOhEight · 02/07/2016 22:34

Geoffrey we have a family with several very small children who complete the whole course - the smallest of whom usually happily toddles around in his wellies via all the puddles. The father walks with a backpack, but I have never seen the small child being carried in it (probably just as well, I remember how hard it was carrying our DC in those contraptions). I think it is brilliant and amazing in equal measure that such little legs can manage the whole 5K. As long as the children are happy and are doing it at their own pace it's a great way of introducing regular sport/activity which is so important as they grow up.

I have two very sporty (teenage) boys and although I sometimes complain about the hours I spend on touchlines/river banks/poolsides/driving from match to match I'd much rather they were doing that than sitting around in their pants playing on the X-box (they do quite a lot of that as well Grin).

GeoffreysGoat · 02/07/2016 22:41

I do miles with littlest in the sling! Might even walk a parkrun with it one day soon 😉 if I knew you on fb I'd show you me with both boys up! I'm not looking forward to the Xbox years, I'll be glad to be out of the point and grunt phase :o

FiftyNineOhEight · 02/07/2016 23:06

point and grunt Grin

At times there's quite a lot of grunting still in our house Smile

GeoffreysGoat · 03/07/2016 08:32

I work with teenagers so I'm gearing up for the 156 month speech regression 😉

0ellenbrody0 · 03/07/2016 09:50

hallelouja I've looked at the Ellenbrook course on the website and might give that a try, it's probably my next closest.

No pb for me, got EXACTLY the same time as last week (33:15). Little bit disappointed as I don't seem to be getting any better and I still find it a REAL struggle.
Oh well, at least I'm exercising! Smile

standingonlego · 03/07/2016 12:37

Just keep going oellen, it will happen :)

Anyone run at Forest of Dean? At Wye Valley for a weekend soon and this seems the closest.

chutneypig · 03/07/2016 13:19

I found I tend to have a burst of PBs then settle for a bit then a few weeks with improvement 0ellen. DS wasn't keen on juniors this morning as he's had a plateau but he ran a blinder in the end and got a PB, first for that course in months. He was one happy boy. He borrowed my Garmin but wants his own now.

A forest has got to be good by definition standing surely Smile

swampytiggaa · 03/07/2016 17:05

Volunteered at juniors today - my 10 year old marshalled too and my 7 year old ran :) just taken her to buy running shorts but the Nike outlet didn't have any in her size so I got her some Jersey shorts from peacocks to see her thru the summer. Have promised her running leggings if she keeps going when the weather gets colder :)
