59 - love it :)
Lovely to see you yesterday, I think I've thawed out!
Such a contrast from a year ago but it was still awesome - rain, some rather soggy costumes and a dodgy loudhailer but everyone was smiling (even when the 201-400 batch of tokens were dropped in the mud!), we were able to thank and honour some of our awesome parkrunners, we broke our course attendance record with 239 runners (previous was 212) and the atmosphere in the cricket club afterwards was fantastic - helped by lots of cake :o

Thomas - I know who you are now :) There will be plenty of other opportunities for hats!

Glad everything went well yesterday feet

I didn't risk a full park run with my sore knee this week but I had promised DD1 (7) she could do her first junior park run today and she wanted me to run with her. We went to Temple Newsam which is gorgeous and even had quite a bit of sunshine. She loved it and is asking to go again next week so I hope my knee doesn't get any worse.

She is going to need some new trainers if she keeps going though - she does lots of dancing, gymnastics and swimming but she doesn't do a lot of outdoor sport so she doesn't have decent trainers - any recommendations? Do kids need running trainers or will any trainers do?

chutneypig · 17/04/2016 16:58

My two managed for a bit with general trainers but as they started doing more I did get them specific running trainers. Nothing too fancy, Nike downshifters if I remember right. We went to Sports Direct - there's usually a good choice at reasonable prices if you can face it. I got DS some New Balance online from Sweatshop for £12 recently, but I struggle more with DD buying online as she has narrow feet.

And I clearly can't control my iPad Grin. Junior parkrun is just wonderful.

backinschool · 17/04/2016 17:33

Thanks chutneypig - I'll have a look at sports direct then. She has wide feet and its always a struggle to get comfy footwear so I'm glad she doesn't need anything specific. Junior parkrun is great, she got so many cheers and hi-5's she felt like a star. She's determined to get her half marathon wristband now. It's hilarious watching her run though - she styles herself on Phoebe in that Friends episode. Arms and legs flying in all directions!

megletthesecond · 18/04/2016 13:50

back 9yo ds had Nike Downshifters last summer and has recently got Nike Dual Fusion. I think they're fairly robust because I've been able to use the magic eraser and chuck the Downshifters through the machine so dd can use them next summer, they've come up almost like new. The grip and uppers really haven't taken too much of a beating.

My plastic bar codes arrived today. Once I know they're working ok I'll have a ceremonial burning of the tatty paper barcodes.

swampytiggaa · 18/04/2016 14:51

I have just invested 50p at my local craft shop to laminate my barcode. Hope it works OK! Will take a paper one along as well just in case on Saturday :)

Blatherskite · 18/04/2016 15:52

Laminating doesn't usually cause a problem with barcodes.

I've bitten the bullet and ordered DS a rubber wristband just like mine. Not the cheapest option but as I'm an RD at both my local full and junior event, he ends up going a lot. I'd have got DD one too only her teeny wrists are way too small for one at the moment.

feetheart · 18/04/2016 16:36

I seem to remember that your wrists aren't exactly big Blathers - you let DS try yours on so I knew what size would fit him :)

Laminated barcodes are absolutely fine, and hold together in the rain much better!

Blatherskite · 18/04/2016 21:13

Yes mine is a Small. They do an Extra Small now too though which should fit him nicely. ...for now :)

cinnamongreyhound · 18/04/2016 21:13

Glad it went well feetheart the only weather we dread for parkrun events.

Eeek was similar when I visited Barnstaple. Thinking of trying to persuade dh to go to wimpole Saturday not sure he'll agree though Sad

Looking at the rain today its going to be a soggy parkrun tomorrow!

If anyone is in north Devon in the summer I run at Bideford :)

GeoffreysGoat · 22/04/2016 13:41

I need to check if we've moved into town off the forest yet for the summer. Ds1 is getting very excited about his runs, highlight of his week!

Runninggirl63 · 22/04/2016 21:11

Ordered my 100 t-shirt this afternoon. New shipment is in ! I was lucky only had to wait from January.

Hope everyone has a good run tomorrow.
