Happy 2016 everyone!

If your new year's resolutions include more exercise, come and join our little band of (almost) daily exercisers. The idea is loosely based on Juneathon, and you do some form of exercise most days each week (we take rest days too). The exercise can be whatever you like, swimming, running, DVD/ gym classes, yoga, stretching, etc, but we post here to keep motivated and encourage each other.

Our previous threads are Octoberathon and Juneathon

I'm planning to get out for a short run later today, fingers crossed it stops raining at some point!

Jillian kickboxing w2 for me Friday. Yesterday was parkrun, came distressingly close to beating my PB but still felt very good after - I definitely felt hyper for the rest of the day snowfall, almost like I'd been drinking. Yoga inferno w2 today. That was tough but I felt good after.

This will be my first proper week of half marathon training so hopefully I'll hit the dual targets of exercising every day and the routine activity of the small changes thread. Most days I'm ok but I'm aiming for five miles a day, so the odd day gets tricky if I'm not actually running that day.

OublietteBravo · 10/01/2016 20:53

I'm a bit late checking in today (I decided sleep was more important than exercise this morning). This evening I did 30DS L1D7 & 6W6P L1D4.

Did some unconventional exercise today. We took advantage of a break in the rain to go to the beach, where DS decided we needed to build an enormous stone circle to serve as our castle. We marked off a circle about 10 or 12 feet in diameter and set to work. DS, however, maintained interest for about 5 stones' worth of construction, then disappeared with DH to play "run away from the waves" while shrieking with joy, leaving me to get on with it. I discovered that I could work up a real sweat tromping back and forth collecting heavy stones and squatting down to put them in place, so I spent an energetic half hour doing that. It was bliss. You are all invited to our lovely castle, complete with a stone sofa and table and a pebble floor that I raked with DS' tiny plastic sand rake like some demented Zen gardener.

Back to reality tomorrow with a plan for kettlebells.

KanyesVest · 10/01/2016 22:34

Sounds like a great work out Serendipity! And your DS sounds adorable.

I had a rest day yesterday and did 5km this evening. I was slow but I was getting faster in each km, which was a great confidence boost. It was almost freezing here, about 2 degrees when I left the house, but the wind and rain have finally stopped and it was really clear, so quite a nice run overall.

Good morning everyone.
No exercise at weekends or holidays for me (no childcare) but back on it this morning. Zumba then yoga.

comeagainforbigfudge · 11/01/2016 15:59

Hello. Not much proper exercise over weekend. I did have some "precious walking around shops without baby time" so i took the stairs whenever i could.

I also have been a 45 min walk with pram today. In the piggin rain. That started 2 mins into my walk. And stopped 5mins from home, grrrrrr!!

Going to be waiting in for oven repair man tomorrow so will work my way through the davina dvd. Smile

velmadinkly · 11/01/2016 19:35

I didn't do any planned exercise over the weekend either, but I met my garmin step target for both days. Saturday is just a bit manic taking DD to swimmjng and dancing lessons, I then went and collected my new sewing machine. I ended up spending the evening putting the new machine to work by rustling up a medieval archers costume for her themed learning day today. I also ended up walking up and down the front room to meet my target.

Sunday I woke up with good intensions to go swimming, but I couldn't muster myself before DH had to go to work, so I ended up going on a 20 minute walk with DD and again I ended up walking up and down the front room while I watched war and peace to meet my target.

Thankfully, this morning I did Davina dvd, had a quick walk in my lunch break and my 10 minute cycles to and from work. I met my step target just as I walked through the door after putting my bike away. I'm currently1000 steps over target with 1300 to reach 10, 000. I might just walk up and down the front room again, just so that I achieve that goal.

I'm planning on doing davina again in the morning.

OublietteBravo · 11/01/2016 20:25

I had to force myself to exercise this evening - I really didn't want to! I've just finished 30DS L1D8 and 6W6P L2D4.

Time for a shower (and then dinner) I think...

KanyesVest · 11/01/2016 20:49

I know what you mean, Oubliette, I was really disappointed when dh rang to say he was coming home in time for me to go to the gym! Anyway, because he did, I ran down to boot camp. I did it a lot faster (for me) than last night's run (1 min per km quicker) so I was warm and wrecked when I got there. Did core circuits and kettle bell hiit for 45 mins then very slowly plodded the 2 km home.

Very ready for a shower and bed now.

You lot put me to shame ... just managed a short and sharp kettlebell workout tonight. I've been in a right old funk all day. Running tomorrow.

ProjectPerfect · 12/01/2016 06:52

Oubliette I've also really had to force myself to exercise, however Sunday I had a revelation: I can watch my iPad whilst running in the gym late to the party

I downloaded dr foster and as a result I ran my first ever 5km Grin no pauses. Slow but steady and since I'm desperate to find out what happens next I need to be in gym tomorrow for more of the same.

Caught up over the weekend with some Jillian. Fancied a change to JM so got the Lorraine Kelly Live Life to the Max which I did today. OK for a change and reminds me of the aerobics classes I used to do in the 1990s. Will prob go back to JM KBFF for the rest of the week though.....
Well done everyone! Smile

PurpleThermalsNowItsWinter · 12/01/2016 09:25

Today is going to be an indulgent lazy day. 30 mins just trying to get through to the doctors surgery to ask them to see my 4yr old dd and now waiting for the compulsory callback. It looks like tonsillitis. If she falls asleep I may squeeze something in.

SerendipityDooDah · 12/01/2016 14:13

Couch to 10k W5D1 done on a rather chilly lunchtime jaunt. (BTW, anyone know of a good way to disguise, erm, headlights when running in cold weather? Even with quite a substantial/thick sports bra I fear my boobs were rather obviously leading the way the whole time ... Blush) Two good things: I had a faster second half than first, complete with sprint finish, and my phone didn't die until the cool down!

ProjectPerfect, well done on the 5k, and blodynmawr, well done on the old school aerobics. Have you seen the group of guys who do step aerobics on youtube but set to hip hop? It's hilarious. I would break an ankle within 30 seconds, given my utter lack of coordination, but I love watching it.

Purple, hope your DD feels better soon. Tonsillitis is awful -- so painful for the little mites.

OublietteBravo · 12/01/2016 21:55

I got some unexpected extra exercise this evening. Gridlocked traffic meant I took DS to and from football on foot (a brisk 25 min each way). I also did NMTZ, so feeling quite virtuous this evening.

velmadinkly · 13/01/2016 11:41

Hi all

Everybody seems to be doing so well and I feel, at present that I'm doing it under sufferance. I woke up yesterday and I just couldn't muster myself to do Davina, so I went and did a 30 minute nordic walk at 6.30am instead. It was very cold, so it soon woke me up.

I also thought I'd do Davina this morning, but again, I just couldn't muster myself, so instead of riding my bike to work, I walked instead, so it's 2 x 25 mins walking for me today. I don't know if I'll do anything more constructive tonight, we'll see. I could go swimming if I get home in time to get into the pool before the lane swimming finishes.

I do feel much better when I'm exercising and I must keep on telling myself that I do to maintain the motivation.

SerendipityDooDah · 13/01/2016 13:17

Velma, I often feel like I'm doing it on sufferance, and I have never been willing to suffer enough to do anything at 6:30 a.m., much less tromp around in the cold! So I think you're doing really well. It all helps (at least that's what I tell myself), be it a walk, a swim, a really embarrassingly short like I do HIIT workout, whatever. When it's cold and dark I think anything other than sitting on the sofa eating comfort food and binge watching Netflix is a win.

KanyesVest · 13/01/2016 13:24

I feel exactly the same, Velma, it's so hard to summon the energy and motivation right now in the cold and dark. I did some weights last night mainly because I can't put food in my face while holding a dumbell. Hoping to get to bootcamp or out for a run tonight depending on when DH gets home. I keep reminding myself that I'll never regret doing some exercise, but I might regret not.

Hope your little one is on the mend, purple. I've had a few bouts of tonsillitis in the last couple of years and it's a horrible dose.

blodynmawr · 13/01/2016 19:44

Motivation was very thin on the ground this morning here too, as it was freezing and I had an extra 10min snuggling under the duvet. Hence I only managed 1 x 20 min of KBFF. Blush
But as long as I do something to keep up the routine I console myself that other days will be better and more minutes will be logged Smile.
Well done to everyone who is keeping up their routines Star.

OublietteBravo · 13/01/2016 19:59

I don't think many people want to exercise regularly - especially when it is cold and dark. It's about keeping going even when you're not feeling motivated.

Today was a better day for me. I did 30DS L1D9 & 6W6P L1D5 without too much of a struggle.

(12/288)

SerendipityDooDah · 13/01/2016 21:53

25 minute walk for me today. Planning to run tomorrow though Thursday's are slightly tricky schedule-wise so may have to call it a rest day.

Well done to everyone for having the January blahs but exercising anyway!

KanyesVest · 13/01/2016 22:14

It's about 1 degree here, so I'm afraid I wasn't brave enough for outdoor running or the unheated gym, so I did 4x 7min hiit circuits in the playroom. Turns out my arms are sore after yesterday's weights, which is hopefully a good thing.

DD who is 5 started a "cave kids" fitness class with my trainer today and loved it. The 8 of them were doing wall squats, planks, battling ropes and smashing medicine balls

Almost half way through the month, ladies!

I want to go to cave kids fitness class! Sounds fun Grin

All my plans were foiled today. It was nice and dry this morning but DD decided to extend her nap to two hours, so by the time changed and fed the rain had started.

OH is out this evening, so i made a new plan. Exercise video. HAH! hour and half settling dd for the night. Quick tidy up before putting video...... tidy up done. Then spent another hour trying to comfort DD who was either teething or had trapped wind. Or both.

I did manage lots of squats whilst trying to get her back to sleep (which worked)

Sorry. Epic moan there. Poor wee lamb, thinking the paracetamol has kicked in though so hopefully thats her for the night

Im also just annoyed as OH got a peaceful evening at cinema

Tomorrows another day.
