NewYearathon

Happy 2016 everyone!

If your new year's resolutions include more exercise, come and join our little band of (almost) daily exercisers. The idea is loosely based on Juneathon, and you do some form of exercise most days each week (we take rest days too). The exercise can be whatever you like, swimming, running, DVD/ gym classes, yoga, stretching, etc, but we post here to keep motivated and encourage each other.

Our previous threads are Octoberathon and Juneathon

I'm planning to get out for a short run later today, fingers crossed it stops raining at some point!

That's making impressive use of the set you've got Oubliette! I've had a pretty good go at one of the yoga inferno workouts today. Hopefully I won't lose motivation after work tomorrow.

glentherednosedbattleostrich · 03/01/2016 20:54

I did 20 seconds of plank and a short walk today. My plan this week is -

Tomorrow is week 1, day 2 of couch to 10k.

Tuesday is zumba

Wed rest

Thursday run

Friday zumba

comeagainforbigfudge · 04/01/2016 13:06

Right. Ive thought about this and ive come up with a plan.

Im so rubbish at this exercise lark. Im pretty unfit, suffer from MS so a relapse coupled with a pretty awful birth (which took ages to fully recover from) has resulted in me being pretty weak all over sadly.

im starting from proper zero. No more excuses. Ive got far too much weight to lose and a baby girl to set a proper example to. I do not want her to fall into my terrible habits. So new ones to be set.

Today I walked 40mins, with pram, to aldi, on very uneven path. Hill on way back.

Whilst in aldi i purchased davina fit in 15.

  1. Going to build up to walking for at least 1 hour (without an aldi shop in the middle Wink) every dry day.
  2. Going to work through davinas dvd. Not checked it properly yet but will aim to complete all sections at least once a week
  3. Pilates or yoga at least twice a week - videos on you tube that are 15/30minutes long.

If i have a bad few days, thats ok. As long as i start again.

KanyesVest · 04/01/2016 20:36

Sounds like you've a good plan in mind, comeagain. I'm with you about getting back on the horse after having a bad day week. I need to get better at that this year.

And with that in mind, I had a bit of a ridiculous weekend and wasn't able to do any exercise (unless I can count 3.5hrs of tidying the playroom exciting Saturday night here ). So this evening, I ran to boot camp (2km). Turned out I was the only one to turn up, so it was a kettlebell circuit that I couldn't cheat in Blush. I ran very slowly back home. DD won't be back to work until weds, so I won't get for a run tomorrow. I'll do the stretching video again, most likely.

OP posts:
KanyesVest · 04/01/2016 20:37

School, DD goes to school, not work. We don't have any local coal mines that take 5year olds...

OP posts:
chutneypig · 04/01/2016 20:41

That sounds like a great plan comeagain. A good mix there which will help keep things interesting.

I could sign up some DC for a local coal mine Kanye. I think that very fed up with each other. I don't envy their teacher tomorrow.

I just went for some yoga tonight and a walk at lunchtime to buy a diary to log it all in.

KanyesVest · 04/01/2016 21:06

A diary sounds like a good idea, chutney, I might do that too. I was weighed and measured, which was pretty grim, but I guess incentive!

Forgot to add,

Managed a 25 minute walk and a 12 minute HIIT workout. Tomorrow is meant to be a running day. Will have to go at lunch or after work as I have a mammogram appointment in the morning ... Oh, joy!

comeagain I like the sound of your plan. And kanye, I like the sound of that coal mine!

KanyesVest · 04/01/2016 21:15

Oh, hope the mammogram goes OK and you get a speedy all clear, serendipity. What hiit do you do? I like the idea of it, but it seems like a lot of effort to struggle into my sports bra/boulder holder for less than 15 mins!

OublietteBravo · 04/01/2016 22:55

Just quickly checking in to report that I did NMTZ this evening (4 days down - 296 to go Smile).

I'll try and catch up properly with the thread tomorrow (after work, which I'm not looking forward to).

chutneypig · 05/01/2016 06:58

Hope today goes well for you serendipity

SerendipityDooDah · 05/01/2016 13:43

All went well, thanks (was just a routine squeeze)! Grin

As for HIIT, I do 30 seconds of 6 exercises with 10 seconds rest in between, three sets in total. I usually pick exercises from 12 Minute Athlete. A typical set would be some form of squats, press-ups, walking lunges, burpees, planks and mountain climbers. I have been known to do it in my bedroom undies or PJs Blush just to avoid changing, with hands clamped over norks on any jumping moves! But generally the fact that it's less than 15 minutes is what convinces me to do it.

Went for a run at lunch today and nearly ended up flinging my phone into the Thames. The bloody thing had 92% battery when I started, but clearly it was unreasonable to expect it to power a Couch to 10K app and music for 30 whole minutes. At least it died at the halfway point so I had some sense of when to run/walk on the way back. To be fair, my phone is nearly 4 years old and thus a dinosaur by technological standards. I'm trying to hold out for another one until we go to the US over Easter as it will be £100+ cheaper there! But I very nearly marched into the EE store on the way back to the office and demanded a shiny new one RIGHT NOW. Bad enough to be jiggling along like a mobile Christmas pudding without having to listen to myself huff and puff as well. [First world problem, I know.]

Oubliette and kanye, you are powering through your 300 day goal! A diary seems a good idea too, chutneypig.

OublietteBravo · 05/01/2016 19:32

Hello everyone - it sounds like you are all doing really well.

I did 30DS L1D4 & 6W6P L2D2 this evening. I'm definitely in need of a shower now.

(5/300 - trying not to lose count).

chutneypig · 05/01/2016 20:51

That's frustrating Serendipity, my phone keeps having battery fits too, very annoying.

That's dedication Oubliette. How long are the 6W6P sessions?

One barbells class and one Pilates session for me today. I'm not sure how tomorrow is going to go, my poor abs took the brunt Grin

OublietteBravo · 05/01/2016 20:58

6W6P sessions are about 30 min (including warm-up/cool down). So probably 25 minutes of actual exercising (20 exercises x 2 circuits). I like level 1 much more than level 2.

comeagainforbigfudge · 05/01/2016 22:16

30 min walk wearing baby. Pulling in of what i hope were deep abdominal muscles every 5mins whist walking

KanyesVest · 05/01/2016 22:23

Damn you Serendipity... I downloaded a 7minute hiit app and just did it 3 times! Very glad to hear your test was just routine.

Good work walking and wearing, comeagain. I try to pull in my abs when I'm running and whenever I think of it, and it's not easy. Idont think I'd manage it while carrying a baby too!

Couldn't find 30DS DVD Blush so have been back on Kickbox Fastfix this week. So far so good Smile.
Well done everyone else getting motivated too!

PurpleThermalsNowItsWinter · 06/01/2016 09:38

I'll join. DH cheekily bought my a gym membership as a stocking filler since I was moaning about running in the rain so I really need to go to (I have about 10lbs to loose and a flabby baby tummy to tone). Although I can barely bend down today after a body combat class yesterday I'm off to aquafit in 5 mins, hopefully the water will help cushion my poor leg muscles.

velmadinkly · 06/01/2016 10:20

I've not posted for a few days, but I've been on it!

Monday I walked, Tuesday and today I have Davina 5 week fit, comprising of warm up, 2 sections (HIIT, boxfit or fat stripper) and stretch. I've also achieved my target steps on my garmin and I have 2x10 mins cycle to work and back Monday to Thursday.

I'm feeling much better for getting back into exercising.

comeagainforbigfudge · 06/01/2016 12:33

Just signed up for 5k in may. So i feel i may need to adjust my plan to include couxh to 5k! Shock eeeeeeekkkkkk!!!

SerendipityDooDah · 06/01/2016 13:22

Ha! Sorry about that, kanye! Well done, though. I guess that means I have to do my HIIT workout tonight just to keep up ...

comeagain, well done to you for the wear-walk/ab workout and signing up to the 5k! Couch to 5k would be perfect, and you have plenty of time to stretch it out to be less eek-y. Grin

KanyesVest · 06/01/2016 16:52

Wow, everyone is doing really well!

When in may is the 5k come again? I'll see if I can find one to do here around the same time and we can keep each other motivated!

A bit of friendly healthy rivalry on the hiit, Serendipity? I can do that Grin especially since my new sports bra arrived today. Now the girls are properly strapped down again, I'll be high-kneesing it as my main mode of transport.

I went to boot camp this morning. It was circuits. Painful circuits.

OublietteBravo · 06/01/2016 20:07

I feel for you Kanyes - I don't think I'd want to start my day with painful circuits.

I'm quite tempted to have a go at Serendipity's* HIIT exercises - maybe at the weekend.

In the meantime, tonight I did 30DS L1D5 & 6W6P L1D3. I'm amazed at how easy I'm finding 30DS this time around - I felt like I was going to die when I did it for the first time back in June.

comeagainforbigfudge · 06/01/2016 20:42

Its the 15th may. One of those colour runs. Just to add to the fun Shock

Did leg section of davina dvd plus some stretches.

Think i need to look out my copy of run fat bitch run. Aw that would be good kanyes im hopeless at staying motivated Sad
