Happy 2016 everyone!

If your new year's resolutions include more exercise, come and join our little band of (almost) daily exercisers. The idea is loosely based on Juneathon, and you do some form of exercise most days each week (we take rest days too). The exercise can be whatever you like, swimming, running, DVD/ gym classes, yoga, stretching, etc, but we post here to keep motivated and encourage each other.

Our previous threads are Octoberathon and Juneathon

I'm planning to get out for a short run later today, fingers crossed it stops raining at some point!

Feeling a bit more motivated today - I've just done NMTZ.

After an unintentional rest day yesterday, I got back into the swing of things today: 30DS L2D11& 6W6P L1D18.

Hey, I'm back sort of.....

the physio has told me I can now start gentle walks, not too fast and not too far, as well as swimming (although it difficult to get to swimming with DH working shifts).

However, I can join in the daily, what exercise did I do by adding what I achieved with regards my strengthening exercises that the physio has given me.

I have to do the bridge things, where you lay on your back and then lift your bum up off the floor as high as you can. I have to do them with a small ball between my knees and do 2 x 15. I also need to try and progress to doing them without the ball and with me balancing on 1 leg and 1 leg raised straight out without me collapsing to the side and then to be able to do them twice a day, therefore, 4 x 15 in total

This morning I did my 2 x 15 with both feet on the floor and I did 2 one legged ones on each side. I'll attempt to do more this evening.

He has also told me that long term pilates is going to do me some good, so on that note, can anybody suggest any good pilates DVD's?

Welcome back velma

OublietteBravo · 08/03/2016 21:56

I'm struggling with motivation at the moment - although I finally persuaded myself to get into my kit and do NMTZ.

Mostly I've been tackling DD's costume for the house dance competition next week. Because making a 50s style dress like the ones in Grease is the sort of thing all parents can manage - right? (Actually I probably can, but it seems to be a high level of expectation - especially given 2 weeks notice).

OublietteBravo · 09/03/2016 12:56

I managed to get my exercise done earlier today: 30DS L2D12 & 6W6P L2D18.

ifyoulikepinacolada · 09/03/2016 16:10

Hi guys, can I join in please? I've been doing actual proper exercise for the first time in my life since January - before that I just did tonnes of yoga and pilates. I'm loving it so far but tried out a new class earlier today and we had to do 440 squats. Four hundred and forty Shock! And now I'm scared I'll never walk again and need some sympathy...

OublietteBravo · 09/03/2016 17:01

Welcome to the thread pinacolada

440 squats Shock that's pretty hardcore!

ifyoulikepinacolada · 09/03/2016 19:55

Thanks oubliette! It hurt. I took the dog out for a gentle stroll this afternoon to loosen my legs. Didn't work. Although tbh i'd rather do the squats than make a 50s style dress...

Velma, I'd gently suggest a beginners' pilates class before you buy a dvd - you can very easily lose form when you first start and make things worse so make sure there's someone to correct you for a few sessions until you've got the hang of it! Then you can carry on at home :).

velmadinkly · 09/03/2016 20:39

Welcome pina the physio is refering me onto the physio in the practice that is also a pilates instructor once I get to that stage. Hopefully she'll recommend me a dvd.

I did my 2 x 15 bridges with both legs then 3 on each side one legged, so 1 more each side compared to yesterday, I will try for 4 one legged bridges on each side tomorrow. I also did some leg stretches because my hamstrings have gone tight from doing the bridges. I think I might try walking to and from work tomorrow, because if my pelvis/hip kicks off I don't have work on Fridays so I'll be able to recuperate.

ifyoulikepinacolada · 10/03/2016 20:25

You'll be fine then! Sounds like you're making good progress :) hope you get fixed up quickly!

I went to a 75 minute yoga class today. Luckily it was a slow one as I basically only wanted to roll around on the floor after the squatathon yesterday. Tomorrow i've booked a circuits class and my usual friday night dynamic yoga class...

blodynmawr · 11/03/2016 07:40

Still here and KBFFing with the weights but only managed one session this week Blush.
Will get back to usual routine next week though as DH going back to work....
Welcome pina and hello again velma and oubliette. Making any sort of costume for the DCs is some feat in my eyes - eBay and car boot sales are my friends in that respect. I can only manage basic sewing - button replacement and hem repair!

velmadinkly · 12/03/2016 20:24

I walked from work on Thursday and my hip is now niggling me again. I feel like giving my pelvis a good talking to, it's really annoying me that it is stopping me from doing one of my most favourite things which is walking. I think I'm going to have to start swimming again. I can't not do any exercise, it just feels wrong.

I feel like just doing some pilates from fitness blender, but I know it might be counter productive and make my situation worse.

On a good note, because I can't walk much, I've found time to spend time on my new hobby which is sewing (dressmaking), so I made a simple dress two weekends ago and a simple top in Friday evening. I went and got fabric this weekend to make myself some culottes, so that I can look as though I've got a skirt on, but it makes it easier to ride my bike.

OublietteBravo · 13/03/2016 16:16

Hello - I've been having internet issues. Still exercising though:

Thursday: 30DS L2D13 & 6W6P L1D19 (60/240)
Friday: NMTZ (61/239)

I had a rest day yesterday, and I'm contemplating what to do this evening. My right knee feels a little bit tender and I don't want to damage it as I'm going skiing next weekend. I think I might focus on abs this week and give the squats/lunges a miss...

comeagainforbigfudge · 14/03/2016 10:47

shuffles in all apologetic and red faced

I disappeared. We (me mainly but DD as well) have been plagued by colds/chest infection since start of feb. Been miserable. BUT i'm back on it.

Gloriously sunny here this morning so i ventured out for the first "run" of the couch to 5k.

Well when i say run, i perhaps mean slow walk with a bit of bounce Grin

In saying that i didnt really follow the 1min jog/2min walk thing. Managed two 4min "slow walks with a bounce" and was out for 35mins covering 3.5km in total. Quite pleased with it as really just wanted to see what i could do. Next session on wed but i will start following the plan properly as dont want to knacker myself or my pelvic floor Shock

OublietteBravo · 14/03/2016 20:34

Evening. I think my knee is OK (phew). Just to be on the safe side I'm concentrating on abs this week. I've modified L1of 6W6P by removing the squats/lunges and substituting in the evil abs circuit from NMTZ.

I did this modified abs circuit both yesterday and today. I do feel a bit guilty about only doing 30 min exercise though. Maybe I'll address that tomorrow.

(62/238 & 63/237)

ifyoulikepinacolada · 15/03/2016 08:36

Well done comeagain - how do you feel today? oubliette half an hours exercise is fine, silly! Particularly in the run up to skiing.

I went to a circuits class Friday and yoga in the evening then boxing on Saturday. Took Sunday off and then did too much cover work yesterday to fit anything in except a couple of hours' walking (total!) between classes. Today i'm off to a TRX class and then i'll do yoga again this afternoon.

OublietteBravo · 15/03/2016 21:51

Modified abs circuit again today once I'd finally located my motivation (plus I walked DS up to football rather than taking the car)

64/236)

OublietteBravo · 16/03/2016 22:28

My exercise routine is very repetitive this week - modified abs circuit again

On the plus side, my knee feels totally normal again.

(65/235)

OublietteBravo · 17/03/2016 18:54

Yep - you've guessed it! Same again this evening.

(66/234)

OublietteBravo · 18/03/2016 19:27

...and again! Modified ab circuit this evening.

(67/233)

comeagainforbigfudge · 18/03/2016 19:35

Oh i was sure i replied pinacolada, may have just started dreaming of cocktails instead.

Anyway was fine after my slug like walk jog. Had to go pick dd up from nursery later that day and felt stiff walking but loosened off by time got there so i think that helped.

Decided to start on week two of the c25k. Mainly because i knew i could do 4mins. But dont want to kick the arse out of it by jumping to far into it. But similarly didnt want to start at the begining incase i felt it was "too easy" and then went off plan.

So second week, second jog. It was surprisingly comfortable. Well apart from having to climb stairs at the end. Had a good stretch and will do some more before bed.

Oubliette hows the knee? Skiing plans on track?

OublietteBravo · 18/03/2016 22:41

The knee is fine comeagain - I'm off to Austria tomorrow Smile

Next weeks exercise will consist of skiing...

KanyesVest · 18/03/2016 23:05

Hello everyone. I'm on my way back! Physio has said I can start run / walk intervals again, and I went back to the gym to do modified core, and bum work my ass is large but apparently not strongearlier this week. Bit disappointing that I was supposed to be doing a 10k tomorrow, but I'll just have to find one later in the year instead.

Happy skiing, Oubliette, all your core work is going to pay off no end, hope your knee is ok.

Hello Kanyes - welcome back!

Good to hear that you are making progress. Had the physio helped?
