New thread for an (almost) new year, and almost exactly a year since the start of the original thread!

Purple I am glad its not just me!! I haven't got enough arm acheage, must work harder.

I am having a rest day today.

Oh no Boobz hope you and your dh got it all sorted.

yumyumpoppycat · 04/02/2016 22:54

That's brill that your fitness is improving fullsteam, fingers crossed for the physical side (I am waiting for that too!)

MMX is in p90x3, I think Boobz said its on VK?

wanderingwondering · 04/02/2016 23:12

Hello everyone, I wonder if I could muscle (see what I did there??) in and join you?
I'm a month into Jillian michaels body revolution which I don't think is as hardcore as the stuff you're doing but is hard enough! I've got another 2 months to go but could do with recommendations as to what to go for next?
Ideally something arojnd 30 mins as then I can fit it in straight after kids bedtime.
I'm also a runner and love trails and mud!
Having said I wasn't going to do anything over 10k this year (injured last year) I recently signed up for a 35 mile very hilly trail run in sept so am looking forward to that!
Great to read about all your workouts and weight loss. I am too heavy atm at nearly 10stone. Need to be 9 to look and feel best so need to focus on diet for the next few months

yumyumpoppycat · 05/02/2016 18:27

Hi wandering welcome aboard .... Grin @ muscling in. I think jillian Michaels is pretty hardcore...was body revolution fun?

Purpleraindeer · 05/02/2016 20:31

Hi wandering - welcome. I've not done body revolution. Ive done shred and ripped in 30 and a few of her others.
Depends on what you want to do next really. Insanitymax30 is really good for cardio fitness, t25 is good for a mix of cardio and strength and p90x3 is mainly strength. There's loads of other people doing more exotic work outs - turbofire, piyo etc so I'm sure they'll have advice too.

Boobz - did you honestly get up early enough that you had 15miles done by 9.30 am and then go to work?

Glad alpha is going well fullsteam - sounds like you're burning the candle at both ends at the mo. Hope you'll get some down time soon.

Did warrior today. Had day out with DH and bought some new workout clothes so felt I had to test them out. Smile Also had had a majorly massive multi course lunch so thought I'd try to make a dent in that.

wanderingwondering · 05/02/2016 20:33

It's getting good now I'm at the end of week 5. First couple of weeks were fairly easy but I was actually shouting at her on the screen this week. Another 2 months to go yet so quite trepidatious about what's still to come!

wanderingwondering · 05/02/2016 20:38

Sorry purple-missed your post. Thanks for the welcome. I like the sound of t25. I think I get enough cardio from running so like the strength bits of Jillian best.

Boobz · 06/02/2016 17:31

I am an hour ahead so was actually 10:40 not 9:40 :)

Purpleraindeer · 06/02/2016 18:39

Oh, so it was a lie in boobz! Grin How did 15m feel? Was that your longest ever run?

Did incinerator today so I've completed our challenge week poppy. The girls in the DVD are super muscly. I'm not sure I totally want to emulate them.

I think I'll do a max30 week next week.

yumyumpoppycat · 06/02/2016 18:43

Warrior done today purple so Incinerator tomorrow then for me? I found warrior really hard today, maybe I was trying harder than usual. I might do one max 30 workout to join in the spirit of it and will prob do some shredding next week.

Purpleraindeer · 06/02/2016 19:40

Warrior IS hard. Elevator push ups?! Urgh.

Boobz · 06/02/2016 21:10

Not quite a lie in... :) Yes longest ever run... I got a bit lost which was annoying, and my music ran out of battery, so it wasn't perfect but it wasn't breaking, which I thought it might be... I could have carried on running! 2hr09mins which felt good to me! Strangely looking forward to 18 on Friday now!

I like the muscly look. Not too much, obvs, but some definite definition on the triceps.

Did Insanity Max Interval Sports training today - I hate bronco jumps. Still impossible. Love all the ladder sprints though. P90X anhd 4 mile run tomorrow, to catch up on what I missed this week due to work/rows. Can't work out on Monday as am up early doors for a plane to the UK and then back to back things happening all day, but will doing Barry's at 7:10am on Tuesday and 8 miles running on Weds.

yumyumpoppycat · 07/02/2016 17:55

Well done on your run Boobz.. sounds amazing!

Purple are you max 30ing tomorrow, which one are you doing. If there is a fairly easy one scheduled in next week let me know!

I did p90x3 Incinerator and really liked it!! I also realised I have made PROGRESS from when the original thread started. My weights on full mode used to be too much but are now ok. Before I could only manage 1 or so wimpy push up now I can do 7 wimpy pushups (plank position and bending arms but not getting very low) . I should prob try and do one really proper low to the ground one and see if I can do it or not. Also I was nowhere close with military style and I think that has improved too a little. Also I was a lot better with the pull up assist today. wooooooooohooooooooooooooo

yumyumpoppycat · 07/02/2016 17:55

Flippers however wtf!

Purpleraindeer · 07/02/2016 18:41

Poppy!! Fantastic! 7 press ups is great! And brilliant with the pull up assist too. I think strength building is like that - you feel like you're getting nowhere then there's a break through. P90x3 is brilliant for that - you should definitely stick with it. I'm so pleased for you - I bet you feel awesome tonight!

I started my max30 week with cardio challenge. Argh. I can't believe I used to find that workout easy. Never mind. I guess I will get it back soon.... Rest day tomorrow then tabata strength on tues. why don't you do that with me poppy? Can't remember much about it as I've not done it for ages. It does have evil diamond jumps in it though.

Run sounds fab boobz. I used to love the long runs when they felt like that. was going to try max interval sports tonight to see what the bronco jumps were but didn't have enough time. Maybe next weekend?

Have a good evening all Smile

caitlinohara · 08/02/2016 11:01

Wow, haven't been here for ages and it's the same Mumsnetters, I am so impressed!!

I haven't done any exercise for ages but I need to start again now. I always allow myself to hibernate for a while but February has arrived and I need to get my shit together.

I did T25 last year and plenty of Jillians before that but I am looking for something new. I really want to focus on strength this year and most of the workouts I have come across assume you want weight loss, which means that I often end up not following a programme properly or else I don't really get the results I want.

I've been having a browse on the Beachbody website and came across the Hammer & Chisel workout - has anybody tried this? It looks pretty much exactly what I am after but the clips show them using workout benches and stuff and space is extremely limited here, esp as I think dh will want to join in.

I also like the look of P90X3 but am put off by the chin ups because I don't really have anywhere to do them. I do like Tony Horton however so that's a big selling point for me.

Does anyone have any advice?
And well done to all of you for sticking at it, I think you are awesome. Smile

yumyumpoppycat · 08/02/2016 14:57

Welcome back caitlyn, I haven't seen it but someone else has mentioned it on here. I think purple said it involves yet more equipment. I quite like p90x3 and you could do a lot of it without a pullup bar, but tbh the one I have folds up and slots on the living room door easily (not the proper p90 one though). Its expensive though even second hand but some of the workouts might be onnline. I linked to a youtube workout earlier on on this thread that might also be a cheap strength option.

Purple can I tempt you again Grin bargain inanity the asylum £4 unfortunately it probably wont have any equipment like the ladder thing so that will be an extra cost unless you make one. I think cex must have lots of them I bought one a while ago but haven't looked at it as its supposed to be nails and I'm not

level 1 jillian michaels shred with my heavyish weights was pretttty hard, but quick.

caitlinohara · 08/02/2016 16:04

Hi poppycat! Have just looked at reviews of Hammer & Chisel on Amazon and they are not particularly encouraging tbh. Considering P90x3 but you're right it is expensive. What kind of pull up bar do you have? I see that there are different workout schedules for P90x3 so I could try the Mass one, have you completed the whole thing?

yumyumpoppycat · 08/02/2016 18:36

I have this pullup bar and also one of these assist bands which were on a lightning deal at christmas. At full price I wanted an assistance band but it felt like too much money. I would def get the workouts first and then see how you go before investing in the extra equipment. I haven't completed it but Purple maybe has, there are a couple of not so good workouts but some are really fun.

Purpleraindeer · 08/02/2016 20:44

Hi Caitlin - I didn't finish p90x3 - I got 1 week into to the last phase and started to miss the Shaun t cardio. I'll go back to complete it as I really liked getting stronger but I'm really enjoying a mix of both at the mo. I've got a similar pull up bar to poppy - it just hooks on the doorframe and goes in the cupboard the rest of the time. The pull up assist is fab too - I tried before using a chair to take a bit of my weight but the assist makes it easier.

Poppy - what is cex? I am very tempted at the £4 bargain (you knew I would be!) but I'm a bit mystified re the site - are they second hand or knock off DVDs?

yumyumpoppycat · 08/02/2016 20:50

Purple they sell second hand items usually. They are a highstreet chain, with an online shop they buy and sell second hand trade ins computer games, dvds etc. I have ordered lots of cheapy workout dvds from them before and all have been fine although obviously the condition of the boxes can be variable. I am not sure why they have so many of this dvd set, the price has gone down a lot on asylum possibly because the equipment isn't included?

caitlinohara · 09/02/2016 12:52

HI purple I can't believe you missed the Shaun T cardio!!! Man I hate cardio. Literally hate it. I think I am going to order P90x3 but just get the base kit and see how I go.

Can I ask about shoes? I have running shoes but I've read in several places about getting proper cross training shoes that are totally flat, I'm not clear on why this would be better but lots of people seem to say so. What shoes do you all wear?

Thanks!

yumyumpoppycat · 09/02/2016 13:33

I'm not sure my trainers were cheap and bought from a link on some random christmas bargain thread, but I think they are supposed to be crosstrainers. I think it is so they are suitable for jumping around. Tony Horton specifies 'court shoes' for some of the workouts. When I used to wear running trainers for T25 I was getting discomfort in the arch of my foot but this no longer really happens.

I did shred L1 yest and I think I am a bit achy from all the weights and press ups over last 2 workouts alongside my attempts at pull ups so going to do some kind of stretchy workout later.

Purpleraindeer · 09/02/2016 20:56

Well if you're achy post press ups it's a good thing you didn't do max30 tabata strength with me poppy. There were a LOT of press ups. I can barely hold up my phone now! And what kind of hellish work out is it when high knees are described as a'recovery move'???? I survived and that's the main thing I guess

Caitlin I've got normal running shoes. I guess court ones prob are better but I dont care - runners seem to work fine for me. If you hate cardio you'll love p90x3. You should also read 'thinner leaner stronger' by Mike Matthews. It has loads of stuff about how to build muscle and lose fat which it sounds like you want to do (don't we all!)

caitlinohara · 10/02/2016 12:18

I have ordered P90x3. Really excited/nervous!

Decided to 'kick start' my new year by doing Speed 1.0 from T25, because despite my hatred of cardio, I remember it as being the easiest of the T25 workouts so I thought it would wake me up but ease me in. Felt like vomiting in the last 10 minutes. This is the trouble with hibernating - it feels like a guilt free treat at the time and then every year it gets harder and harder to get back into shape. Sad

I'm sticking with normal running shoes for now then.

Sorry to bombard you all with questions, but do any of you do supplements or protein shakes etc?
