New thread for an (almost) new year, and almost exactly a year since the start of the original thread!

My abs are ready to burst out I think, I just need to lose about 3 kg which is going to be diet related rather than INsanity related. Day 3 of 800 cals here...

caitlinohara · 08/06/2016 09:57

Roastie Damn RL! I hope the yoga helps you destress. This is the thing with P90X and the reason I don't think it is feasible on an ongoing basis. I do think it's worth it once a year because no matter what the marketing hype says, I don't believe that only ever doing 25 mins a day is going to get you where you want to be (well, not where I want to be!) but is a good option for kickstarting your fitness or maintaining it. I'd really like to see more mid-length workouts. I think 45 mins would be my ideal sort of length - long enough so that it doesn't feel rushed, but not so long that it requires military planning. Katie how long are the Hammer & Chisel workouts, can you remember? This may be a factor in me deciding what to do next!

Purple That is indeed an amazing price. I wonder why? Do you think he's about to bring out a new one? Well done with the abs! Mine are in there somewhere, I'm sure of it!

Only Do you mean 30 seconds per arm? Conventional wisdom states that you should use a weight where you max out at 8-10 reps for size, and 12-15 reps for lean (this is mentioned in P90X, Body Beast etc) so I would start from that premise and see how you go - last 2 or 3 reps should be really hard whichever you go for. If you can do 15 easily, you need to up your weight. Smile

caitlinohara · 08/06/2016 10:32

only Tragically, I don't think you can refeed once a week, although Thinner Leaner Stronger allows you a 'cheat meal' once a week! I think basically the gist is that, as many people seem to find, you can only lose weight steadily with a calorie deficit for a certain length of time before your weight loss stalls, so the refeed is one way (and the most appealing way!) of kickstarting it again. I think cortisol is key. It's very stressful for the body to train hard all the time and it sort of fights back on you if you're not careful. Proper athletes cut back on exercise periodically for that reason, hence the recovery weeks built in to lots of workout programmes. Annoyingly, Tony Sadist Horton seems to think that two lots of Yoga X and Core Synergistics constitutes a 'recovery week' Hmm rather than me sitting in front of the telly....

RoastieToastieReastie · 08/06/2016 13:49

I'm at yoga at my gym waiting for instructor, the air con has broken and its baking so I think it'll be that sort of yoga in heat type of class. I'm so hot from my roastie toastie work room which is killer hot(living up to the nn!) my feet smell Blush no wonder no one is sitting near me

yumyumpoppycat · 08/06/2016 16:56

How was yoga roastie, prob not your feet smelling, or at least not as bad as you think,, have had that before where paranoid its me that smells then realise I am fine when I get home {surretitiously sprays deoderiser around just in case}

Did Gamma Riptup, was quite fun I couldnt really do Jack pushups though.

Oooh Insanity asylum, I have that, does anyone think I could make a ladder, or do without one?

Boobz how are you finding 800 cals?

yumyumpoppycat · 08/06/2016 19:30

Just went on to amazon to investigate asylum offer and saw that turbofire is £19.95!!

yumyumpoppycat · 08/06/2016 19:49

Actually lots of offers on amazon, rather gutted to see p90x3 is £50! Pull up assist is £15, agility ladder is £10 and cex sell insanity asylum without ladder for £4 last time I checked. I have ordered chalean extreme also £19.95 Blush Blush Thanks purple for heads up!

Boobz · 08/06/2016 22:26

Not bad Yum, although tomorrow will be a test as it's DD's birthday party and there will be pizza! And it's our leaving party on Sunday and there will be BBQ! So am wondering how committed I really am, when the going gets tough... (there's always something though, isn't there?)

I was good tonight though - DH invited me out on a work dinner thing where he is taking his colleague to our favourite restaurant with the most amazing cheese and prosciutto and red wine, and I said no to ensure I didn't go off the wagon! And it's meant I have been able to catch up with boring house moving admin... only 2 weeks on Monday and then I will be back in the UK - weeeee! Family following a little later - I have to early for tax reasons...

Purpleraindeer · 09/06/2016 07:35

How's your DOMS only?

Roastie - I thought of you last night when i did max interval circuits. It was absolutely boiling in the house. Awful. Half way through I took the iPad into the garden and did it there. Am sure the neighbours enjoyed Shaun t.... Not a great work out tbh - I find it hard when it's hot and had to skip both stretches due to time pressure.

Poppy - jack push ups are awful. My sympathies. Am now considering buying p90x on amazon because it's on sale.

Not sure when I'll next work out now - out again tonight and Friday is busy too. Hopefully Saturday.

RoastieToastieReastie · 09/06/2016 07:43

Morning,

Well, yoga was good but very warm! It was quite a full class yet there seemed to be the biggest gap near me so I'm not convinced about my feet not smelling Hmm.

Well, I entirely blame all of you, I've just bought t25 gamma (only ever tried alpha and beta in the past) and p90x3 and Charlene extreme in the bb sale. I've been feeling quite bored with what I've got and wondering what to do after p90x so now I've got lots of choice! I'm also thinking in the summer holidays I won't be able to do p90x as DD won't allow that sort of time commitment from me as she'll just get bored, so I think I'll do p90x3 over the summer break and then pick up p90x where I left off in September. I really wanted a decent discount on insanity max though :( I guess that will be on my Christmas list.

Boobz hope the party goes well today.

Yumy you could easily do insanity asylum without The ladder, it just wouldn't be quite so challenging as you would have something physical in front of you to aim for with jumping etc to have to stay in, but it would still be very hard work.

Caitlin I agree with 45 mins (45-50 is my ideal). An hour is ok for me a few times a week, but p90x it feels like that's the minimum you ever get.

Who was it that said they had a two pack? Woo hoo to you!

EleanorAbernathy · 09/06/2016 10:16

Morning - rest day for me yesterday for my NMTZ DOMS to recover! Also had a blood test but it was a much gentler nurse than the last time so it shouldn't affect me doing TBC.
The kitten is at the vets having the snip so I'm taking the opportunity to do my workout without him trying to join in! Grin

Boobz · 09/06/2016 11:03

Only Max Insane Abs today (or whatever it's called) - 33 mins of ab nightmare.

Don't think it's as hard as Ab Rippex X, just longer (and there are lots of breaks compared to Tony!)

RoastieToastieReastie · 09/06/2016 11:28

Boobz I don't call 33 minutes of insanity abs 'only!! I'm interested you think ab ripper X is harder, I hate ab ripper X as I find it impossible. I'm starting to dread it as I'm not really seeing much progression yet either. So do you manage 25 reps of all the ab X moves? it would make me feel better if you said no I get between 25 and 8 reps depending on the move, and do the easy version of all of them.

Eleanor glad you had a nice gentle nurse to take the blood today. I've always had hidden veins and am a nightmare to take blood from and I'm quite interested to find out if doing weights will make blood tests easier for me. Obviously I don't really want a reason to need a blood test to test the theory though!

RoastieToastieReastie · 09/06/2016 12:52

Argh, what are the chances of this, after I said about blood tests today I got a letter through the post requesting I have a blood test as I had pg diabetes so they sometimes send this to me to make sure it never comes back and I usually ignore it

yumyumpoppycat · 09/06/2016 17:02

Wow that's a bit spooky Roastie, maybe you should get it checked if its not too much of a palaver.

Hopefully we will all have a fun summer with our beachbody bargains. If Hammer and chisel goes down soon I might go for that.

Having a rest today as quite achey but also I have a lovely day off work tomorrow so going to do an hour workout. Possibly insanity, any suggestions for a good first cardio one and I will see if its online?

Boobz hope your dd had a lovely birthday

yumyumpoppycat · 09/06/2016 17:04

Grin eleanor at your kitten, sounds cute!

Jacksterbear · 09/06/2016 17:18

Ooh it's been busy on here! Great stuff!

Eleanor hope the shoulders are recovering now. I love NMTZ but it is horrible on the shoulders (circuit one side lifts...arghhh!).

Boobz happy bday to your DD.

Roastie hope the blood test is nothing too concerning.

Well, thanks to whoever mentioned that there are BodyCombat videos on the Secret Site (Roastie, may have been you?). I have rediscovered the site, having given up on it a few months ago after getting frustrated with a couple of poor quality videos. Have done a body combat (Tues) and then browsed around a bit to see what else was on there... Discovered JM's yoga inferno and have done it today - loved it! I suspect yoga purists would hate it as it's a bit of a cardio/yoga/Pilates/strength mash-up - pretty hard but awesome!

Poppy I recommend cardio power and resistance as the least hideous of the Insanities! Grin

OP posts:
RoastieToastieReastie · 09/06/2016 17:33

You see I think month 1 plyo insanity is the least hideous, and I also really like pure cardio (but I just accept I do a lot of breaks).

caitlinohara · 09/06/2016 21:31

Can I just say - purple, you did a workout IN YOUR GARDEN?? I am Shock, that's so brave! The main reason I do workout DVDs is because I hate working out in front of other people. This is why I am still slogging away with Yoga X rather than booking a class as an alternative Blush.

Roastie Hope you are ok. Sounds like everything is against you at the moment! It's annoying when you have to compromise but sometimes unavoidable. Re Ab Ripper, I still hate it, but I am definitely improving. Tony is really mean in that one as well, with his "get your butt in the air! Get it up! Get it up!" I aim for 15 before having a break in most of the moves, but I can get to 25 on everything now, just about. The "yoga belly 7" bit in Yoga X though - that's MUCH worse, honestly.

Exciting times ahead Boobz, hope the move goes well!

Off to check out all these bargains now! Thanks everyone, keep on keepin' on.....

Boobz · 10/06/2016 06:57

Thanks she had a great day. Can't believe she is 6. That makes me OLD.

Ok so I just watched the Insanity - I'm in! Will order it today. Are we all going to start it together when they arrive? Who else ordered the Asylum?

Going to do Max Interval Circuits today - which one are you doing Purple?

Boobz · 10/06/2016 08:35

SO just as I get to the floor switchkicks, all I can see are the words from Purple "I didn't slow down or stop....".... and so I pushed and I pushed and I pushed through and I did it too!

In fact I totally NAILED that work out, and I think it might be the hardest Month 2 Insanity (feels like it goes on forever...) and am sweating like a pig now.

Only had one tiny piece of DD's cake yesterday, and only because DH had spent literally HOURS slaving over it (she wanted an Officer Hopps from Zootropolis cake... no really) so it seemed only appropriate to actually taste the thing.

Today and tomorrow should be ok, but Sunday is party time again and there will be lots of bubbles - hmmm.

But have stuck to 800 Kcals all week so far and I think it's working! Don't want to weigh myself until Sunday though (pre-party, natch).

Roastie Pure Cardio is my favourite too. As for Ab ripper, when I was at my fittest (at the end of the first time I did P90X back in the day, post 3rd baby) and then again just before I was diagnosed in May last year (had been doing Insanity for 12 months straight), I could do all the moves pon Ab ripper X yes, but I would say that my Pfeifer scissors were a bit un-straight. In my current fitness, I'd say I can do 25 on 3/4 of them, and then the final quarter I can get up to about 16 or 17, miss 2 for a rest and then do the final 5 or 6. But am hoping I can get back up to full 25 by the end of this latest regime I am on. I'm surprised you're not seeing a difference though - how long have you been doing it?

Right, must get on. Have a great weekend all.

Boobz · 10/06/2016 08:37

*on not pon

EleanorAbernathy · 10/06/2016 14:26

Roastie that is really freaky about the blood test letter!
I only just managed a kitten-free workout yesterday before the vets rang for me to collect him - he's now recovered and was doing Supermans with me in Ab Intervals today! I wish DP had been home to take a photo Grin

I did another double today - Ab Intervals and Lower Focus - those calf hops and lunge progressions are like one big leg cramp - ouch! 5k run tomorrow, the onto Beta next week for a change.

I have also now lost the rest of that lb that I lost 0.4 of last week so heading in the right direction! Although I'm going to the pub tonight and may undo some of the good work.

onlywhenyouleave · 10/06/2016 16:12

Omg, just watched Boobz link to Insanity Asylum Shock Shock you lot are all crazy!! I will not be going anywhere near it!!

I just looked at Turbofire on Amazon as I do fancy it and I didn't think it was on the secret site. However I have realised that it is Turbo Fire (with a space in) so I searched again and they are all there. I watched a couple and whilst I like the format, the moves just seem so quick and twisty that I think my form would suffer, it wouldn't be good for my knees etc - what do others think of them? I am not against quick stuff but this seems ridiculously quick. Wasn't keen on all the jigging in between sets either Hmm

I did Lower Focus this morning aswell Eleanor I totally agree about the calf hops and lunges - they really hurt!! I do prefer the 21-day fix leg workouts though but have put together a hybrid schedule of T25 and 21-day fix (with a bit of combat thrown in) to mix it up.

RoastieToastieReastie · 10/06/2016 17:25

Rest day here today then I'm onto the week 4 of p90x with lots of core synergis (or something like that). I'm quite looking forward to the different DVDs which I'm hoping I might get to do in month 2.

Today my amazon bb workouts came and I am super excited to try them but I'm holding back until summer holidays. I may use cardio ones for my cardio workouts with p90x though.

Boobz I suppose I should quality the no progress statement in the ab ripper. There is a little progress (a few extra reps here and there) but I suppose for the amount of times I feel like I've done it I was hoping for a miracle more. I think it's as I hate it so much I feel like ice done it more than I have and get frustrated. On the plus side a couple of the moves last time I did p90x a couple of years ago I couldn't do at all even modified and now I can, so I'm making fitness progress.

Only I don't find turbo fire too twisty. I do like it but the women in the class drive me absolutely crazy with their OTT American cheeriness. I definitely find it less twisty than t25.

Eleanor go you with the doubles!
