New thread for an (almost) new year, and almost exactly a year since the start of the original thread!

Hey guys. boobz and only, sorry you're both feeling frustrated re weight loss. I have no idea what to suggest as the more I read the more confused I get re fasting, exercise etc. I read something the other day which basically said exercise does bigger all to help weightloss - rather disheartening!

Personally, I seem to keep yo-Young up and down the same 4-5 lbs. I lose it easily every time using mfp, but it creeps back on again. Grr!

Press ups on gravel Purple?! Yeah that's hardcore.

Re the "concerned" relatives, yeah my mum and mil always say "you're so slim, you don't need to exercise / watch what you eat" etc - um why do you think I'm slim though? Grin

This week so far -PiYo yesterday and a fitnessblender on YouTube today. Gym tmrw.

Yy Jackster, I also have been yoyoing consistently since my daughter was born... the same stone, up, down.. Whatever the magic pill is, I haven't found it. Whenever I worry about it, I inevitably put on weight. Hmm So you slim slim people... anything that worked for you? Low carb or 5:2 or WW or whatever? My BMI is up at about 24 now (gained 2-3kg from a fortnight of Insanity Max 30and Bodyshred... not fair! ) so technically healthy but I do look better at about 21 (am not Caucasian which I think does affect I how useful BMI is).

I hope to go back to Insanity Max 30 as there is heavy rain forecast here for tomorrow. Maybe I'll even do the plyo pushup things properly and travel about three feet side to side as Shaun does. But most likely- not. Grin

Hope you feel better only and others. It's not easy. Flowers

onlywhenyouleave · 25/05/2016 09:09

Thanks again to you all for the pep talk - I have given myself a metaphorical slap and I will move on Grin I think it is because, as roastie says, it feels like a marathon as I need to lose 4 stone and I have only just started with such a long way to go - I guess I wanted those quick results to give me motivation Hmm

Caitlin I am in bed asleep by 10.30 most nights so am getting about 7 hours sleep so I don't think tiredness/lack of sleep should be an issue. I only do the 5.15 workouts 4 days a week (on my working days) so I get more sleep the other 3 days.

I did Flat Abs (21 day fix) yesterday and my abs are on fire today - every movement is agony!! I would definitely recommend it if you want a good abs workout - it is only 30 minutes aswell so can be tagged onto another 30 minute workout if you wanted.

I had to listen to an hour of SW chatter last night - I love my friends but it does get a bit boring listening to tons of different methods of filling yourself up (jars of pickled onions anyone??) As an habitual snacker who used to fear hunger, I have been there and done that but I am trying to embrace hunger (hence the 16 hour fasts each day) and realise that the world is not going to end if I am hungry so I do not need to snack!!

caitlinohara · 25/05/2016 09:52

Katie Getting flu worked for me but I wouldn't recommend it! Grin In all seriousness, I am the same as Jackster in that I think diet is the key but there is so much conflicting advice out there. I think most people agree that high protein and reducing carbs is effective, but it's bloody expensive. I have never had a lot of weight to lose to be fair, so I have never had to try fasting but I'm not sure I could hack it anyway. I eat a LOT, and frequently, and I am still only 9.5 stone at 5" 7'. Typical day for me at the moment would be porridge with a scoop of protein powder in, mid morning snack might be a protein bar or full fat yogurt with almonds and a chopped pear, lunch would be salmon or chicken breast with quinoa and salad, probably a banana or something mid afternoon, and maybe a beef stir fry and brown rice for tea and then something else like cottage cheese or houmous and vegetables before bed. That sounds an awful lot written down like that Blush. I am never hungry (unsurprisingly) and it works for me.

I think you are all more fit than me though because I could not even contemplate Insanity so you will probably all live to a ripe old age with healthy hearts and lungs and I will be wheezing away trying to lift my sixteens. Grin

Purpleraindeer · 25/05/2016 21:43

There is nothing more boring than other people's diet chat only!

Katie - was it you who asked about permanently changing eating habits? i think it's just making some changes and keeping on doing it for long enough so it's weird not to eat that way. Today I didn't want ice cream as I felt like I'd had too much sweet stuff over the last few days.Shock I literally didn't recognise myself!

Was half dead when I got up this am. Insanity is making me feel tired. Was delighted to check the schedule and see that week 2 is easier than week 1 which is a bit odd, but a relief for my poor quads. Am finding having only 1 rest day a week a bit too much for me. Anyway - max cardio conditioning done.

onlywhenyouleave · 26/05/2016 09:50

Morning

Bloody pulled my calf muscle doing todays workout Sad I am now limping around! Hope it improves quickly - can just do upper work tomorrow if necessary.

I agree purple - you just need to break the old habits by forming new ones until they become the norm. I am certainly craving breakfast less and less now (I am a proper cereal lover so it has been hard). It is just really difficult to get past those first few days/weeks! Just wish I could break the sugar habit...

EleanorAbernathy · 26/05/2016 13:27

Ouch only - lots of gentle stretches!

The BEST thing for weight loss is stress but I really don't recommend it (plus I soon put it back on once the stressful situation improved and I could eat again!)

Cardio yesterday and Speed 1:0 today - still enjoying T25, I think I'll aim for a double tomorrow.

And I have finally found a breakfast that stops me eating everything in sight all day! It's basically 3 eggs, scrambled - with 2 rashers of turkey bacon and cherry tomatoes, spinach and spring onions. All fried in 5g or coconut oil. It's a bit high calorie but also high in good fats and protein, low carb - and stops me diving for the Kitkats until lunch! I recommend it. :)

RoastieToastieReastie · 26/05/2016 13:34

Only that's rubbish, I hope it gets better soon.

Eleanor you see stress for me is the worst thing for weight loss as I comfort eat big time when stressed, you can tell by looking at pictures of me and what I weigh as to whether it's a stressful time in my life or not based on how big I am!

Did a yoga class yesterday in place of yoga X and did chest and back X and abs X this morning but alas my silly arm injury came back with press ups so had to really hold back.

Purpleraindeer · 26/05/2016 17:41

That breakfast sounds amazing Eleanor.

I'm like roastie - stress makes me pile on the weight. Sad

Hope your calf is feeling better only. I'm sore and have aches and pains like an old lady today. I've found 4 consecutive days of insanity really hard on my body. I'm aching in all sorts of weird places (shoulders, wrists, hips. That's weird right?). Anyway - I think I'm going to award myself a day off tomorrow. The problem is I always say that and then just think I'll do a quick workout.... Did core cardio and balance today. Wtf??? My hip flexors now hate me and Shaun t!

caitlinohara · 26/05/2016 21:41

Eleanor that breakfast does sound amazing. I've never had turkey bacon but it sounds lush.

Have done P90X Legs & Back and Ab Ripper today and now even the thought of standing up in the shower seems a bit of an effort. Purple I feel your pain, I ache all over as well. Not my wrists though, you're right that is weird! Grin You could do a Stretch workout in place of a day off and that might help?

Roastie Are you still out of sync with P90X? I'm not sure the sequence makes a massive difference to be honest. How are you finding it time wise? It is SUCH a massive commitment, I'm struggling but I tell myself it's not forever....

only I hope your calf gets better soon, that sounds painful. Just when you were feeling a bit down as well. Upper/Abs work sounds a good idea.

Purpleraindeer · 27/05/2016 08:26

Oh my goodness I'm so sore this am! Yesterday's workout wasn't that bad, but it's like all the work outs have caught up with me and now I'm walking like a robot who needs oiling! I know I should do a stretch work out but I've just gone with ibuprofen instead Smile

onlywhenyouleave · 27/05/2016 10:23

Hi

Eleanor that breakfast sounds yummy - is it a Body coach one?

Purple ouch, I definitely think your body is telling you to have a rest day Wink

Well, unexpectedly my calf is feeling perfectly ok this morning (I thought it would be worse) - it started easing off yesterday afternoon Hmm Anyway, I am ashamed to say that, despite that, I didn't get up and exercise this morning Blush I might do the T25 stretch (as I love it!) or just have a rest day. Am due to go to the gym tomorrow for LM Grit class with a friend - am not looking forward to it as I have looked online and it appears even harder than metafit Shock so I figure a rest day will probably just help my calf a little more. Has anyone done a Grit class and if so, what is it like?

Boobz · 27/05/2016 12:19

Ah but Purple - it just goes to show that doing a new routine has worked muscles you weren't working before, and that's good! Harder! More varied and will get better results.

So, as much as it pains me, I am admitting defeat. I just don't like this Goliaz thing. DH loves it, and will continue and get amazing results I am sure, but I just can't be bothered with it anymore. The results are terrible, I positively HATE doing the workouts, and tbh I am starting to cheat in them (although I know I am only really cheating myself!) just to get to the end faster so I can stop doing it. What is the point in that?! I LOVE P90X, I LOVE Insanity, and I really really like long runs (10km+) so why am I putting myself through this? I really wanted to be "transformed" by the time we return to London in August, but I really don't think this is going to work for me, and I am running out of time, so am going to go back to Month 2 Insanity plus Ab Ripper X every other day, plus a few runs thrown in for good measure. I might add in legs and back from P90 as well, as that's my favourite.

I feel a spreadsheet coming on.

Oh the relief. Have to tell DH now - I have already hinted at it, and I know he will be disappointed, but I can't do it for him, I have to do it for me (or not do it, in this case).

Just goes to show, that some exercise regimes really suit some people and not others (me and DH being a case in point).

So! Tomorrow I will do a Month 2 Insanity - will start with Max Interval Plyo to wake up the system - am VERY EXCITED as I literally haven't seen Shaun for 6 weeks now - it will probably be a tearful reunion (on his side, natch).

BRING IT

KatieKaboom · 27/05/2016 13:58

Yay Boobz Wine

RoastieToastieReastie · 27/05/2016 14:38

Hello,

Well, I know I'm starting a new workout routine as I'm getting ill. Literally every single time I start a new programme about a week later I get ill, I think it must be the shock in my body or something.

Caitlin I'm still out of sync with p90x. I'm doing the right number of workouts a week just in a random order. I know they are long aren't they! Yesterday I did the chest and back workout but I whizzed through it as I just did move after move after move and stared whilst Tony was chatting about it so I made good time on that one (although I probably should have had more breaks maybe?).

Only that's fab with the calf, what a relief.

Boobz that's great, I bet you'll feel more positive when you're back with Shaun and hopefully dh will understand.

EleanorAbernathy · 27/05/2016 20:39

I thought I'd pulled my right quad yesterday as it really hurt every time I stood up but it seems OK today - I just seem to have slept funny on my neck and now I can't turn it to the right! One of these days I will be in full working order! Grin

I did TBC anyway, just had to modify the oblique push ups. Night shift tonight so shall keep taking naproxen until my neck moves again!

My breakfast is almost a body coach recipe - it's like the spinach and feta scrambled egg (I forgot to mention I crumble feta on it too) but with added turkey bacon.

I don't blame you for stopping that Goliaz thing boobz - it sounds like all kinds of hell, bet you're relieved the decision has been made now.

Purple I was walking like that yesterday too! My bottom half is working now though, just the top to go!

Boobz · 28/05/2016 09:07

Yeah thanks guys - glad I made the decision now rather than another month down the line!

Max Interval Plyo BOOM! Sweating like a mutha.

That's what I'm talking about.

(You may notice I never do emoticons, but I am so happy that I'm going off script: Smile)

Purpleraindeer · 28/05/2016 09:47

Yeah boobz! Sounds like the right call - and you def started back with the best insanity 2. I love max plyo! Woke up with DOMS again this am. My forearms are sore now - I can't use a fork. How weird is that?! Anyway - am going to (hopefully) do cardio conditioning later.

Boobz · 28/05/2016 14:40

So we are on a Month 2 Insanity journey together Purple. Are you enjoying it? Does it feel harder than what you normally do? Is it hard finding the extra time?

Where is the best place to buy workout gear from? I need some more stuff now I am re-motivated.

RoastieToastieReastie · 28/05/2016 20:39

Glad you enjoyed insanity boobz. I can't help on workout gear I'm afraid as mine is from tkmaxx so not very exciting.

Bit of a cop out today with cardio X. I've been getting my ibs flair up and had stomach issues and didn't want to miss out on a workout so theth I'd do a light one today. Feel like I should've forced myself into plyo but at least I did something.

Purpleraindeer · 29/05/2016 09:04

At least you did a workout roastie. Something is always better than nothing
I'm super frustrated here. Have picked up a virus from the DC and still have terrible DOMS. My forearms are so sore I can't grip anything. I have no idea how this happened - my last workout wasn't even that hard- I'm wondering if I just got run down. I think i need to just do nothing until I feel better but I'm super annoyed.

Am enjoying insanity boobz. It's definitely working different muscles and is very effective but it's too long to be practical all the time. I find all the breaks in the work outs and the long time taken on demos a bit frustrating (altho I like the rests!). I'm half way through mth 2 and will def finish it and will probably do it intermittently from now on. I'm glad you're back doing something you're enjoying too

Boobz · 29/05/2016 11:03

Max Cardio Conditioning and Ab Ripper X done.

Good start to a Sunday.

Hope you feel better soon Purple

Boobz · 30/05/2016 08:20

Max Interval Circuits done.

Sweaty!

Purpleraindeer · 30/05/2016 16:01

Good work boobz. Limped through max recovery and ab ripper x today. Hopefully back on it properly tomorrow.

Tony h looks very young in p90x doesn't he? He must have had some 'work' done on his face surely? It looks a bit strange but I can't work out why.

Boobz · 30/05/2016 16:11

His hair is the wrong colour - it's too dark brown.

And he's just a bit old for this kind of thing now I think. Shaun T is much more motivating (but I can't deny Tony his cheese works wonders on me).
