New thread for an (almost) new year, and almost exactly a year since the start of the original thread!

Hi jackster I remember you from the Jillian thread a few years ago Wink

Yes, the Adrien yoga is on you tube and there is loads of variety. Check out her 30 days of yoga for a different workout each time.

I like insanity stuff but I always lean to Kettles so did another Ryan Shanihan tonight. I'm tired so just 30 minutes but I'm using 7.5 kg. love the kettles!

only that sounds amazing

Purpleraindeer · 12/05/2016 07:33

Sounds like a good mix only
It isn't much cardio but it depends on what results you're after - you don't need cardio for weight loss and youll have buff arms, legs and abs after your programme!

P90x3 incinerator last night. I know it's good for me but it was nice to think that this was my last weights workout for a while. I find weights hurt and it's a tiny bit boring (I know, this is sacrilegious for all you p90x-res! Blush). Am at the other end of the extreme tonight with Friday fight 2. That's a hard one and the only one I now really dread doing after work as I know it's going to be tough.

Have changed my diet a bit and am now eating the 100g + of protein recommended in thinner leaner stronger. Am impatient tho - when is this going to turn me into one of those bionic women in the max30 DVDs???

Have a good day all Smile

caitlinohara · 12/05/2016 11:19

Hi everyone, I am (sort of) back. Doctor had to come out to me on Monday because I couldn't sit up in bed, never mind walk anywhere, and diagnosed flu - like, proper flu, not man flu or bad cold sort of flu! I have never had it before, in fact I've had a pretty healthy sort of life so far so it knocked me for six. She wanted to admit me to hospital because I was struggling to keep fluids down. I wish I'd said yes now (because dh is bloody useless when I am poorly Angry) but I felt too guilty that it would be taking up a bed needlessly so I refused. I have started eating again a bit now (couldn't eat a thing for 2 and a half days!) and am out of bed but haven't left the house since Sunday and I look AWFUL. I'm sorry to moan because i know some of you have actual genuine health problems, I'm just gutted that all my hard work trying to build some muscle has all been undone. My arms look like little sticks and I look all thin and weak. I am going to see how I feel next week about exercise but honestly it will be like starting all over again. Sad

Anyway. Welcome back to Jackster, hi to Eleanor, glad you are getting somewhere with your treatment, and Boobz - not long to go before you are back on it!

Only I don't know anything about 21 day fix, but even the strength/resistance type workouts in T25 have a lot of cardio in. Certainly Lower Focus and Total Body Circuit in particular are very cardio based so if that's what you're after I think that sounds good. I am very much the less cardio the better, but I am in a minority on that one!

Purple I feel in no way qualified to be giving out advice to anyone right now but I did find that the Thinner Leaner Stronger diet advice worked the best for me. Having said that, I cannot be bothered counting macros to that extent. I think if I focus on protein and lots of vegetables everything else seems to fall into place. (This from someone who is currently on tinned soup and kitkats Hmm

RoastieToastieReastie · 12/05/2016 14:03

Oh Caitlin how rubbish. I last had proper flu at university ten or so years ago and I remember how absolutely awful it was. You'll get strong again but just focus on getting better.

Did p90x3 warrior for first time in wed and enjoyed it, then had rest day yesterday and pump and shred today. Looking forward to a couple of runs hopefully over the week end when we are away.

EleanorAbernathy · 12/05/2016 17:47

Feel better soon Caitlin, I'll stop moaning about my man flu! I remember having proper flu at school and it lasted ages. And swine flu, which was also rubbish but went away quicker.

I'm back on the workouts - Total Body Circuit yesterday which I really enjoyed, was just a bit wonky on the arm bits because the nurse who took my blood was a bit cack-handed so I have a big sore bruise.

Abs done today - I've done that one before and remember it being not so bad at the time and painful the day after! Off for a walk soon to get my steps in :)

Purpleraindeer · 13/05/2016 12:14

Caitlin that sounds horrible. Poor you. given how full hospitals are they don't admit unless it's really bad so you must have been very unwell. Rest up and don't jump back in too quickly. Flowers

Roastie - glad you enjoyed warrior. It is one of my p90x3 faves. Those elevator push ups are baaaaad. I also always get confused with 1st floor being the ground floor. Confused

Picked up a horrible sore throat from the dc and lost my voice last night. (DH thought that was good news Hmm). Anyway - couldn't face doing max30 and jumping all around so had my rest day 1 day early and then did p90x3 the challenge this morning. Managed an extra pull up on each circuit so was pleased with that. My colleague also revealed that she could hold a plank for 3mins so gave that a go. OMG - 3 mins felt like a long time. Stomach still hurts now!

Roonerspism · 13/05/2016 22:28

Get well soon caitlin proper flu takes a while to recover from.

Also have this summer cold purple. 3 minute plank?!!!!! Not even on knees?!

Finally dipped into insanity. Did one called cardio and resistance. I only managed half but it got to 10pm. Liked it!

I like weights to work out with but will definitely incorporate this kind of cardio once a week

onlywhenyouleave · 14/05/2016 06:29

Caitlin wow, that sounds awful Sad hope you start feeling better soon.

Purple 3 minutes Shock I can manage 1 minute at a real effort - impressive stuff!

Workouts going well here - I am now actually enjoying my 5.15 get ups and it has definitely become part of my routine. It leaves my evenings free which I much prefer as the DC have activities pretty much most evenings.

Think I might do a Body balance workout today as my 'stretch'.

Have a good weekend everyone Smile

Jacksterbear · 14/05/2016 09:14

Hope you are starting to feel better caitlin. Proper flu is hideous!

Rooner, I like Insanity cardio power and resistance. Tbh though it's the only Insanity I like (as it's marginally less unrelenting, nausea-inducing, cardio-tastic than the others, due to the "breaks" of the strength moves!!). I still do like the occasional Jillian workout!

only, 5.15?! Shock

Purple 3 min plank challenge accepted - I shall report back later when I've attempted it!

BodyCombat at gym Wed, PiYo "Sculpt" Thurs, TurboFire HIIT 20 yesterday and Combat at gym again later today. Will make total of 6x exercise this week - a good week!

Boobz are you back on it today?

OP posts:
Boobz · 14/05/2016 18:01

Yes Jackster! I did a Goliaz work out (which I will now do every day, plus about 35km running a week, from now until Aug 16th. And am back on the Zone diet (sort of - I seem to be allowed to eat more calories on Goliaz).

So today was:
Start the clock:
1 burpee (the full body one, not a Shaun T one), 35 mountain climbers, 15m run and then rest until you get to 2 minutes.
At 2 minutes you do 2 burpees, 34 mountain climbers, 15m run and then rest until 2 mins
And then 3 burpees, 33 mountain climbers
etc etc
So at the beginning you have quite a long rest time, but by the time I got to 18 full body burpees and 18 mountain climbers, you are HANGING OUT (to borrow a marine expression), and I was completing the round in about 1min 50 seconds, which only gives you 10 seconds rest before then going into the next round.
Once you "break" (i.e. can't complete the whole round including the sprint) in 2 minutes, you then have to count how many mountain climbers you are on (I broke on 18 burpees, so had 18 mountain climbers) and then x that by 10 to get your number of penalty leg levers (raising your straight legs from lying down straight to bending up to 90 degrees, so you look like the letter L - it's all abs) so I had to do 180 leg levels (!!!) as my penalty. The whole work out took me just shy of 40 mins... DH when to 59 mins before breaking and still has to find the time to do his penalty later today...

I hate Goliaz burpees, is the moral of the story. No run as too much child care but hope to get out tomorrow for a cheeky 10k.

Good to be back! And no more excuses/stops now so am looking forward to a proper transformation!

Well done all work outs people - sorry for those who are ill/injured.

Boobz · 14/05/2016 18:04

Just worked out I did a out 140 full body burpees as part of the work out - I am already feeling it.

Purpleraindeer · 14/05/2016 18:20

Boobz it took me quite a lot of thought to understand the actual work out so I'd imagine it was very difficult to keep track of when knackered. Bloody good effort. Do you listen to music or something to motivate you? Welcome back!

Good workout week jackster. I aim for 5 and 6 is a bit of a miracle for me

Did my last Friday fight 2 today to finish my hybrid. Obv was too lazy to have done a fit test, measurements or photos to measure progress, but then remembered I maxed at 6mins on that workout first time and got to 21 this time. Smile so I must be fitter! I can def do more press ups, pull ups and burpees (Shaun t ones. Haven't tried the evil goliaz ones)

Off for a date night with DH. Yay.

And in unrelated diet chat. I tried chia and flax seed porridge per the lean in 15 book. It was grim. I shouldn't have been surprised really

onlywhenyouleave · 14/05/2016 19:41

Jesus boobz that workout sounds awful Grin well done on completing it!

I saw an advert for BB on demand so signed up for the free 30 day trial as I want to incorporate Turbo fire into my workout and there are only 2 videos on the secret site. Omg, the website is pants! You can't actually access the programmes without paying for them so all you get is a few exclusive workouts, tips etc. Definitely not worth £10 a month!!

I already pay for the Les Mills on demand service which is much better as you get all the workouts included! I did a combat workout today - used to do it all the time at the gym and had forgotten how fab it was!

Jacksterbear · 14/05/2016 20:31

Boobz that workout sounds both awesome and horrible! Grin And agree with Purple that I'd find it hard to keep count correctly!

only, high five and snap for today's combat session. Do you get the current release (67) on the OD service? Interesting re Beachbody OD, as I have been thinking of getting either LM or BB.

Well done on finishing your hybrid Purple, and enjoy date night.

disappointed101 · 14/05/2016 20:40

Only I am getting back on the bandwagon as well. My diet has not been the best...too large portions and too much junk. I have been under pressure though which seems to sadly fuel my eating.
I have decided that I really need to go for it exercise wise. I am losing the gains of previous workouts so am going to start Monday with a p99x/insanity hybrid. Might switch the insanity out with Max 30 or other cardios if I get bored. I am going to try and have a protein shake every day to curb cravings.
I know quite a few people with bod but I prefer the discs to be honest...there seem to be teething issues. I did think about les mills on demand. How much is it only?
Enjoy your date night purple!
Jacks ter I remember you from Jillian! I have name changed since though!
Books you are hard core!
Rooner I shall join you with insanity! I love weights too so I find hybrids work well for me. I find high intensity cardio too much to do all week
Enjoy the lovely weather while it lasts!

onlywhenyouleave · 14/05/2016 20:58

LM OD is £9.99 per month. They have all their workouts apart from Attack. The Grit ones seem really good - more like HIIT workouts. They seem to have about 7 releases for each workout type and add new ones regularly. They also have a couple of exclusive workouts as well.

jackster they have up to release 65 on there so reasonably up to date.

The combat ones are only 30 minutes though but that suits me as I don't often have more time than that.

For those that struggle with yoga, body balance is a mix of yoga and Pilates which is amazing.

Think you can sign up for a free trial for 30 days so you could try it?

onlywhenyouleave · 14/05/2016 21:07

The BB OD somehow links to your account so you can watch the workouts you have purchased through the official BB website (so I can get T25) but that is all. I guess it would be good if you travelled a lot and couldn't take your DVDs with you but it is def not worth the money IMO.

RoastieToastieReastie · 15/05/2016 10:36

Greetings from center parcs! Busy week end here so not managed to post. Just been for a jog around and feeling much better for it (lots of hills though).

I'm really surprised about bbod, it sounds rubbish and also really annoying as I've bought all my bb workouts (bar p90x which I got second hand and hc22 I got from bb) form amazon but it's fulfilled by bb iykwim. It's the same price as via bb but with my prime it's free next day delivery and have got some of them when reduced, so presumably although they have arrived from Bb and purchased officially I wouldn't get the workouts on od.

I also wonder about getting lm od but looked into it but it seemed all of the workouts were only 30 mins, can anyone confirm if this is the case?

Boobz you are a machine!

Sorry for lack of responses back to everyone, will do better once I'm back home. Gtg take DD horse riding.

onlywhenyouleave · 15/05/2016 11:44

roastie hope you are enjoying your first CP experience Smile

Not sure if the workouts via Amazon would register as purchased workouts (I have only got T25 and that was through BB website).

LM OD - the majority of the workouts are 30 minutes but they have a section of longer workouts which includes their exclusive ones, a couple of full pump and balance workouts and some Sh'bam ones (from memory). All the rest of the Balance workouts are split into 2x30 mins so you could put together a full one. Only Combat seems to be just 30 mins but you could do 2 of those if you wanted?

RoastieToastieReastie · 15/05/2016 13:18

Thanks only, my logic is with two thirty minute workouts that by the time you've warmed up and cooled down twice for both workouts it's not an effective use of time compared to one designed hour workout which annoys me, I'd prefer a mix of lengths.

Purpleraindeer · 15/05/2016 16:49

Right. Have decided to do mth 2 of insanity. Eek. Did the fit test. It felt bloody hard going all out on each of the exercises and am knackered now! My focus was on trying to beat Tania. She killed me on push up jack, power knees and oblique abs but I beat her on the rest of them. Grin

Boobz · 15/05/2016 20:09

Purple, Jackster – I can barely keep count correctly either – DH had to do it for me tonight, as it is not that straight forward!

Disappointed I would be doing a P90X/Insanity Hybrid with you if I wasn’t doing this Goliaz thing atm – that’s what I was about to start last year when cancer took over! A bit jealous actually…

Good on you for doing month 2 Insanity Purple - I would recommend doing the stretchy bit in the middle, but skip the cool down if you want to... or else it's going to feel too easy (the stretches are quite tough in some parts so defo part of the work out, if you ask me). You will defo beat Tania by the second fit test...

Today's Goliaz was, erm, complicated again. So will paraphrase so you don't get bored with the instructions...

4 rounds:

20 full body burpees (which takes me about 1:20 to complete)
30 leg levers
30 second V hold
20 leg levers
20 seconds v hold
10 leg levers
10 second v hold

and the burpees have to be done to a special metronome timer thingy (which you download as an app, so you are keeping a specific pace which you are not allowed to fall behind on... if you do, you have to do penalties called "tickets"). Took me 33 mins and I was a ball of sweat by the end of it - my arms and chest are so sore from these 2 days work outs so I know they are working!

Apparently the work outs are ramping up from tomorrow, they will last between 45 - 60 mins (and I am supposed to be runnning as well) - BRING IT!

Boobz · 16/05/2016 08:55

And this morning - "Setibos":

Push up hold (as long as you can hold)
Elbow plank (as long as you can hold)
Superman hold (as long as you can hold)
Elbow plank (as long as you can hold)

= 1 round.

Keep cycling through the above for 40 minutes (yes, really), and count the rounds - when you have completed the 40 minutes, times the number of rounds by 10 to do penalty leg levers. If you can't complete 40 mins, take as many mins as you are away from 40 and x by 10 to do full body burpees (so if you only got to 32 mins, you have 8 mins left off target so 8 x 10 = 80 burpees to do PLUS however many penalty leg levers on top).

I did 13 rounds in 40 mins, so no burpees, 130 leg levers and one of the most epic work outs yet. My core is going to feel that tomorrow! DH did it with me - no way would I have made it without him doing it next to me.

And it's my birthday! So Setibos was a little present to myself - ha ha.

Have a good day all!

disappointed101 · 16/05/2016 13:01

Happy Birthday Boobz! I hope you have a special day. I am 😱 at your repetitions! Chest and back this morning.mi know I am going to feel that tomorrow. Tomorrow will be insanity. I am scared! I haven't done that level of intensity for a while. Purple how did you motivate yourself? I will be getting up at 6am to do it. I know I will have a voice in my head saying go back to sleep!

onlywhenyouleave · 16/05/2016 19:43

boobz happy birthday Flowers most people would have a workout free day on their birthday, not do the hardest workouts ever Grin

Managed a metafit class followed by a pump class at the gym this morning. I definitely felt that I was much fitter in metafit but difficult to tell as the instructor changes the workouts each week!
