Having a 'fat' day here. I have days where I panic I will put back the 100 lbs I lost and feel like I'm putting on weight .

About what I tell DD why I workout. DD isn't really aware I've lost loads of weight as she was too little when I did it so never noticed. I just call it my exercise DVD and I think she thinks I do it because I enjoy it. Sometimes she joins in a bit with me and likes getting involved, sometimes she plays with dh whilst I do it and other times she is bribed with the iPad so I can get it done without interruptions. I tend to do ones that don't seem to talk about wanting to have a pretty bum etc so I hadn't really thought about those messages if I'm honest. DD likes insanity and calls it the 'come on y'all' workout and likes dh lifting her onto my chin up bar to hang from it. In the past she's been a very good encourager saying things like 'you can do it, just a few more, keep going' etc when I moan and grunt and say I can't do any more!

I still feel like I'm cheating with 22 minut s every day with hc. I'm looking forward to doing workouts of a proper length but at the same time will miss the extra time I get with such short workouts.

Those who have had the patience for yoga X, I'm thinking of doing p90x once I've finished hc22 and doing a yoga class in my gym once a week rather than yoga X as the timing of the class works for me. Is there anything special about yoga X or would a regular moderately easy yoga class work in lieu?

RoastieToastieReastie · 01/05/2016 21:26

X posted dissapointed. You reminded me once I did a body attack class at the gym ine evening and I felt nauseous for a whole day afterwards as my dinner was jiggling around so much after all the jumping (despite leaving it a fair while after eating), it really put me off workouts in the evening and I always try to do it in the morning now about 90 minutes after breakfast or else mid afternoon after work before school pick up because that's the only time I can do it on some days.

Purpleraindeer · 02/05/2016 07:49

Roastie - omg -you lost 100lbs?! What an incredible achievement. Can I ask what was the trigger for you to start? I lost 30lbs and for me it was my 2nd lot of baby weight. I had been gaining weight steadily for years having been really fit previously, but had been kidding myself that I was roughly the same size. Something just clicked and I thought enough is enough and started training and dieting. I have the same random thoughts as you re being scared it will all go back on. It's such a massive attitude change to try to lose weight so I always wonder what motivates us all

onlywhenyouleave · 02/05/2016 09:25

Wow, lots of chatter on here - don't understand a lot of it as I have not done a lot of the workouts you are talking about but love hearing your views on them all. Gives me ideas of new ones to try.

I really do like the 21-day fix ones - I enjoy the format, Autumn is a good instructor and they are only 30 minutes Grin. I did Plyo fix yesterday and it is the closest to a Metafit class that I have found.

Roastie 100lbs - wowzer Shock. How did you do it? After DS2 was born, I had got to my heaviest and managed to lose about 3 stone (helped by having gallbladder issues which meant that big meals and fatty food was a no-no). Over the years that has gone back on again now and I am back to where I was Sad

I couldn't look like Autumn if I tried! Being 5ft 8 and broad shouldered and hipped, it just isn't going to happen Wink I just want to be a size 12 again...then I can buy the rainbow leopard print leggings Grin

As for what I tell the DC, we just explain that we don't have time to go to the gym anymore so exercise at home - they used to join in when we first started doing T25 but the novelty wore off a long time ago! It is fairly obvious that me and DH both need to lose a significant amount of weight so they know we are losing weight so we have been open about the reasons for doing it such as the health benefits. I hope this gives them the right message Confused

disappointed101 · 02/05/2016 13:25

Roastie what an amazing achievement! Well done!
Turbo 55 done. Wow I sweated buckets with that! The high after was a great feeling.
I had a protein shake today. I don't have them every day but I've noticed they help with the hunger pangs and cravings.
Enjoy the bank holiday everyone!
Only I love fix too..they are certainly workouts I can come back to again and again and are great for a pre holiday slim down

RoastieToastieReastie · 02/05/2016 19:04

Thanks Blush . It took a long time as it was 1 lb a week. I put on about five stone being pg and then bfing and had pnd and self esteem was rock bottom. I went to an NHS version of weight watchers where the woman that ran it was stick thin and patronising and a bit of a bully and made the whole situation worse. Once bfing was really reducing when DD was about 1 I gave myself a month to work really hard at what I was eating and how much I was moving with no excuses. Just a month with no pressure that I had to carry on at the end of the month but that I had given it my best shot during that month. So I just carried on from there in little chunks bit by bit. I have put on about 5 lbs in the last 18 months though and tbh maintaining is very boring as it was nice when people were commenting on how well I looked as I lost weight and constantly finding clothes were getting too big and getting slimmer clothes. I miss that feeling! My ultimate aim was always just to get back to pre preg clothes (size 16) but I've aced that as I'm a size 12. I constantly live with this fear that I'll put it on again though. And I'll never have a six pack I don't think as I have so much excess skin on my tummy.

Resistance 3 today. We are going to go away for the week end next week end which is a couple of days before the 8 week programme finishes so I'm going to count that as finished and then start p90x when I come back I think after a week end off (I say off, it won't be fully off as I'll be cycling and hopefully going for jogs whilst away)

onlywhenyouleave · 02/05/2016 20:28

roastie very impressive Smile yep I love that feeling of trying clothes on that were too tight and finding they are suddenly loose! Huge well done on maintaining as I know that is the hardest part!

We too are away next weekend and am worried about breaking my diet - I want to relax and enjoy the break but don't want to undo my work over the last few weeks - help! We will be doing a lot of exercise (think well known outdoorsy holiday place Wink) but not sure enough to counteract big meals and wine Hmm

RoastieToastieReastie · 02/05/2016 20:59

Erm, only, we're also going to a well known outdoorsy place on holiday next wee end. That would be so funny if it was the same place!! We're off on our first Eve centre parcs holiday, are you off there too?

RoastieToastieReastie · 02/05/2016 20:59

First ever not first eve.

RoastieToastieReastie · 02/05/2016 21:02

Oh, and I've only gone and put my name for the London marathon next year in the ballot. Mainly because I think I have no chance of getting a place! It's been on my bucket list since I was a child and I figure unless I try the get a place I'll never do it. Tbh I'm not sure my knees are up to it in any case, but at least I can say I tried. I'll probably now get a place! It's a shame you can only sign up to specific given charities though and not free choice.

onlywhenyouleave · 02/05/2016 21:15

Mmmm, which CP roastie Grin

RoastieToastieReastie · 03/05/2016 06:38

Woburn, it's not this week end coming but the one after don't worry, I won't force you into a jog with me if we are there together

Purpleraindeer · 03/05/2016 07:34

Good luck with the London marathon ballot roastie. Isn't it something like 4 applications to every place? I did it once using a charity place. It was amazing. I'd do it again for the experience on the day, but no way could I do the training again.

Only - I wonder if you'll feel like eating loads on hols anyway given that you've been dieting for the past few weeks? You might find your appetite has reduced a bit? You could also only allow yourself one 'unhealthy' meal a day and keep the diet for the other 2?

Did max out strength last night. Was really tired from prev days workouts so really struggled with it. Am never sure whether it's better to make sure you're properly rested (so I should have stopped after a few mins) and then doing the workout properly the next day or whether pushing through knowing you're doing fewer reps but really working to exhaustion is better. Feeling a bit sore this am, so am glad of my rest day Smile

Boobz · 03/05/2016 12:42

Right - where to start? So much to comment on and catch up with - does anyone make little notes before they start a post so you include everyone/don't forget everything?

So am writting this from my hospital bed - have just had my "lipo-sculpting" surgery where they basically suck the fat from my thighs and arse (and innner knees - who knew I had fat there?!) to donate to my boobs in the final stage of my mastectomy surgery, to try and even out any lumps and bumps. To be honest my left boob is fine, it's my right boobs which is a little crinkly, for want of a better word, so have had the procedure done even though I was tempted to cancel it as it's going to take me out of action for GOLIAZ for 10 days - grrr. I am a bit sore now but on pain killers so not too bad. I really am going to struggle not to do any WODs (workouts of the day) for 10 whole days, as I don't want to get behind, but I know I must to make the fat transfer a success.

Caitlin – Dh and I have discussed the whole body image thing with kids, but more to do with our restrictive diets rather than exercise. I have no issue at all with the kids seeing me exercise like a loon, day in day out, as in the end, they not only have happier healthy parents from it, but it's teaching them that exercise is a normal and necessary part of everyday life, and we are always encouraging them to take part as well, so they too can feel the benefits. DH was in the marines though, a lifetime ago, so has always been very pro exercise (as well as team sports) and I think it only has a positive effect on the kids..... the dieting though, not so much! They have overheard us talking about carbs being "bad" and that is not what I want to pass on to my daughters, so we are now very strict with ourselves now to talk about/present a way of eating - we let them eat what they want (in moderation!) as they just burn everything off with gymnastics, football, Insanity (yes really!) and so on, so they currently have no hang ups about food.

I LOVED P90X and like you I stuck to the schedule and had brilliant results (see photo which is about 3 days after I finished P90X - some people think my arms are too much in that photo but personally I LIKE the slightly muscly look - there was an interesting article in the Sunday Times this weekend which interviewed a trainer called Lacey something (Lacey Stone?) and she says the aesthetic is changing from waif (Kate Bosworth) to muscle/strong (Jennifer Lawrence), which appeals to me.

Only – happy belated birthday!

Yum – You talked about burpees - in Goliaz, burpees are called "sprawls" and burpees are actually when your whole body touches the floor on the down motion, which make is much harder to get up - I f*cking hate them now.

Kaitie – yes defo need pull up bar for P90X. You talked about Plyo push ups... again in Goliaz their evil version of the push up is called a "hand-release" push up... (see video below) - they don't do normal push ups, ever, only hand release ones, which I find incredibly tiring as you can't rest your thighs on the floor when you release your hands, and leaves me hankering after a normal Tony push up.

Disappointed – I only got the best results when I was very strict with diet (when I did the P90X regime for 3 months, or when I was following the Zone diet with Insanity last year before I was diagnosed). When I cheat on the eating, even with only a couple of cheat days on the weekend, all my good work was undone. Purple's article was spot on.

*Roastie – I too struggled with the time it took for P90X, so swapped for Insanity, and I would say I got 85% as good results with Insanity (whilst eating well) - which in the end was good enough for me, as I am working full time now and just couldn't fit P90X in with 10 hour days working in central London too. I swapped Yoga X for Bikram yoga and that worked for me. Amazing job on the 100lbs weight-loss, and signing up for the marathon - have you done one before? I am aiming to do Chester marathon in October.

SO! Phew - hope that's caught up with everyone. Now on to my own personal hell. I didn't managed to keep up with my GOLIAZ WODs from Sun - Thurs last week due to travelling/car buying/working/kids on holiday/medical appts last week, so had to catch them all up on Fri - Sun, AND run 30km in those 3 days too, just to keep on top of the program. DH was militant about it (as we have to post it all on Goliaz.com before 7pm CET - no excuses!), and tbh I had a melt down - I just couldn't do all of them, as well as child care (and a friend came to visit in Rome on Sunday) and I just found the monotony of doing burpee after burpee, press up after press up, sit up after sit up etc.... round after round. It's basically cross fit, which I know works, but GOD IT IS BORING. And really hard. I also ran a half marathon on Saturday just to make a dent in my 30km I had to run, and on Sunday morning, after about the 6th WOD in 3 days, I broke down and had a mini sob! Ridiculous I know - I am supposed to be exercising for fun as well as results. And I was pissing and moaning all the way through saying "I hate this, this is rubbish" etc, which was pissing off DH as it's his regime he convinced me to do, and so on. It was around burpee 150 when I cracked though!

Monday was much better when the kids were packed off to school, and I had a couple of hours before flying here for the surgery, and I could just do one WOD and it didn't kill me, so hopefully it was just a wobble due to bad time-keeping/scheduling. I have an enforced rest for 10 days now anyway, so can take the foot off the peddle.

That's an essay. Sorry - but had to share. I'm hoping my liposculpting has taken enough fat away from my arse that it's like I won't have missed any workouts anyway - ha ha!

Excuse any typos!

*Caitlin – Dh and I have discussed the whole body image thing with kids,

I meant we have discussed it in relation to the kids with each other, not actually with the kids!!

onlywhenyouleave · 03/05/2016 16:20

Boobz hope your recovery is quick and the surgery is a success Flowers The amount of exercise you do, I am not surprised you had a mini-breakdown (dare I say, probably not helped by your DH pushing you - I know I would feel like that if DH was pushing me to do stuff that I wasn't that keen on).

Roastie we are going to the Cumbria one this weekend so different dates/different place Grin And there would have been no chance of going for a jog with you as my jogging is in a totally different place to yours if you are applying for the London Marathon (think very slow and very short Grin)

Purple you are correct, my appetite is definitely decreasing and I am (not consciously) quickly realising when I am full and stopping eating - before I would just continue to eat and eat Blush So hopefully, I can keep a lid on the eating this weekend but I am going to have a couple of glasses of wine Wink Anyway, next week is another week and still 14 weeks (ish) to holiday so plenty of time hopefully to go from a 16-18 to a 12-14 Hmm

onlywhenyouleave · 03/05/2016 16:21

Oh and boobz, your arms look amazing in that photo - exactly what I would like mine to look like. I definitely think that is preferable to very thin, non-muscly limbs [happy]

RoastieToastieReastie · 03/05/2016 17:58

Boobz I'm not surprised you had a little upset, so much going on! Hope the recovery is good and who knew we had such useful knee fat! I also love those arms in your piccie, I do like a toned arm on women! I'm always jealous when I see it! The most toned my arms have been was when I was lifting with body pump three times a week as well as doing combat and insanity workout a week too. I'd like to get that back as hc22 just isn't having the same results. I'm now looking forward to starting p90x again now and to get me even more excited my chin up max arrived today and I had a quick go and it's so much harder than using a chair, it's going to really get me strong :)

Ok, I should say regarding my marathon entry I have never run a marathon before, in fact, I've never run more than 5 miles, but I've always wanted to and I figure I may as well enter the ballot, nothing lost in trying, and I'll have a year to train if I do get a place (or I can defer and have two years). I'm not sure I could do it but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Only not the same one then, that would've been funny! Hope y have a great time. We are taking a lot of food with us and I've made soup which is in our freezer and a healthy veggie lasagne for meals to take with us so I don't have to cook and can still eat healthily and save money in restaurants as a bonus.

Purple I always wonder that too, how whether it's better to wait a day to go for it or push through the muscle exhaustion.

KatieKaboom · 03/05/2016 19:52

Very interesting link, Boobz- they look easy, but I'm guessing they are not! Dying to get home and try them out. This metro carriage is quite empty and could probably do one here, but I would lack the confidence without the rainbow leopard print leggings Smile. Hope you feel better, and maybe it was good that you had a meltdown if it clears the air. Your husband definitely needs cut you some slack! Sad

Roastie, wow, hope you wangle a place somehow! People who run marathons are in another league, determination-wise- how amazing would your bragging rights be? And your weight loss is just phenomenal.

I have been doing JNL so far this week (so much fun and she makes my muscles ache insanely) but back to Shaun T tomorrow!

KatieKaboom · 03/05/2016 19:55

disappointed, great that you're doing Charlene. She's just lovely. Love her HIITs from Turbofire, but never done Turbojam or Piyo. Tempted, though.

Boobz · 03/05/2016 20:10

Katie, pre cancer/surgery (at my fittest) I could bash out about 30 traditional (Tony, normal) press ups without stopping - chest all the way to the floor but not releasing hands or anything.

Today I can do about 18 of those, before going to my knees, just about...

I can only do 7 of the hand release ones in that link before going to my knees.... releasing all the pressure from your arms onto your chest means that when you press back up, you are starting from scratch in terms of body tension on the upward motion, so you have to push that much harder to get the movement going again... it's not explosive like plyo but it is hard as you can't use the momentum and tension you already have in a normal press up.

That's the reason Goliaz only uses hand release press ups - it ensures everyone has to do the same amount of work, as it's possible to cheat a bit doing normal press ups - some people don't get their chest all the way to the floor (makes it easier), some people don't keep their bum down and legs on a straight plane (makes it easier) and so on.... with hand release, there is no cheating/variation - everyone has to do the same move so it gives consistency, and it makes it harder. So their theory goes anyway (I absolutely hate them but can only assume they are going to give me an amazing chest/arms/shoulders etc., by August!)

Boobz · 03/05/2016 20:13

And it's the keeping the thighs off the floor when you are at the bottom which makes it really difficult - I think it might be easier if you were allowed to touch your lower body when lifting your hands, but you're not allowed...

Boobz · 03/05/2016 20:14

And thanks for the positive and nice comments everyone - I will be fine!

Purpleraindeer · 04/05/2016 08:47

Will post properly later when I've done my work out, but just to say thanks to boobz for 2 great revelations:

1 - we can have fat knees, I'm now scrutinising mine for signs of flab!
2 - that you're not supposed to put your legs on the floor on those press ups. Oops. Turns out I've been doing that wrong for a while now....

Boobz · 04/05/2016 08:54

You have been doing hand release press ups for a while Purple?
