Right - where to start? So much to comment on and catch up with - does anyone make little notes before they start a post so you include everyone/don't forget everything?
So am writting this from my hospital bed - have just had my "lipo-sculpting" surgery where they basically suck the fat from my thighs and arse (and innner knees - who knew I had fat there?!) to donate to my boobs in the final stage of my mastectomy surgery, to try and even out any lumps and bumps. To be honest my left boob is fine, it's my right boobs which is a little crinkly, for want of a better word, so have had the procedure done even though I was tempted to cancel it as it's going to take me out of action for GOLIAZ for 10 days - grrr. I am a bit sore now but on pain killers so not too bad. I really am going to struggle not to do any WODs (workouts of the day) for 10 whole days, as I don't want to get behind, but I know I must to make the fat transfer a success.
Caitlin – Dh and I have discussed the whole body image thing with kids, but more to do with our restrictive diets rather than exercise. I have no issue at all with the kids seeing me exercise like a loon, day in day out, as in the end, they not only have happier healthy parents from it, but it's teaching them that exercise is a normal and necessary part of everyday life, and we are always encouraging them to take part as well, so they too can feel the benefits. DH was in the marines though, a lifetime ago, so has always been very pro exercise (as well as team sports) and I think it only has a positive effect on the kids..... the dieting though, not so much! They have overheard us talking about carbs being "bad" and that is not what I want to pass on to my daughters, so we are now very strict with ourselves now to talk about/present a way of eating - we let them eat what they want (in moderation!) as they just burn everything off with gymnastics, football, Insanity (yes really!) and so on, so they currently have no hang ups about food.
I LOVED P90X and like you I stuck to the schedule and had brilliant results (see photo which is about 3 days after I finished P90X - some people think my arms are too much in that photo but personally I LIKE the slightly muscly look - there was an interesting article in the Sunday Times this weekend which interviewed a trainer called Lacey something (Lacey Stone?) and she says the aesthetic is changing from waif (Kate Bosworth) to muscle/strong (Jennifer Lawrence), which appeals to me.
Only – happy belated birthday!
Yum – You talked about burpees - in Goliaz, burpees are called "sprawls" and burpees are actually when your whole body touches the floor on the down motion, which make is much harder to get up - I f*cking hate them now.
Kaitie – yes defo need pull up bar for P90X. You talked about Plyo push ups... again in Goliaz their evil version of the push up is called a "hand-release" push up... (see video below) - they don't do normal push ups, ever, only hand release ones, which I find incredibly tiring as you can't rest your thighs on the floor when you release your hands, and leaves me hankering after a normal Tony push up.
Disappointed – I only got the best results when I was very strict with diet (when I did the P90X regime for 3 months, or when I was following the Zone diet with Insanity last year before I was diagnosed). When I cheat on the eating, even with only a couple of cheat days on the weekend, all my good work was undone. Purple's article was spot on.
*Roastie – I too struggled with the time it took for P90X, so swapped for Insanity, and I would say I got 85% as good results with Insanity (whilst eating well) - which in the end was good enough for me, as I am working full time now and just couldn't fit P90X in with 10 hour days working in central London too. I swapped Yoga X for Bikram yoga and that worked for me. Amazing job on the 100lbs weight-loss, and signing up for the marathon - have you done one before? I am aiming to do Chester marathon in October.
SO! Phew - hope that's caught up with everyone. Now on to my own personal hell. I didn't managed to keep up with my GOLIAZ WODs from Sun - Thurs last week due to travelling/car buying/working/kids on holiday/medical appts last week, so had to catch them all up on Fri - Sun, AND run 30km in those 3 days too, just to keep on top of the program. DH was militant about it (as we have to post it all on Goliaz.com before 7pm CET - no excuses!), and tbh I had a melt down - I just couldn't do all of them, as well as child care (and a friend came to visit in Rome on Sunday) and I just found the monotony of doing burpee after burpee, press up after press up, sit up after sit up etc.... round after round. It's basically cross fit, which I know works, but GOD IT IS BORING. And really hard. I also ran a half marathon on Saturday just to make a dent in my 30km I had to run, and on Sunday morning, after about the 6th WOD in 3 days, I broke down and had a mini sob! Ridiculous I know - I am supposed to be exercising for fun as well as results. And I was pissing and moaning all the way through saying "I hate this, this is rubbish" etc, which was pissing off DH as it's his regime he convinced me to do, and so on. It was around burpee 150 when I cracked though!
Monday was much better when the kids were packed off to school, and I had a couple of hours before flying here for the surgery, and I could just do one WOD and it didn't kill me, so hopefully it was just a wobble due to bad time-keeping/scheduling. I have an enforced rest for 10 days now anyway, so can take the foot off the peddle.
That's an essay. Sorry - but had to share. I'm hoping my liposculpting has taken enough fat away from my arse that it's like I won't have missed any workouts anyway - ha ha!
Excuse any typos!
