Rainbow Leopard Print Leggings!

Careful, they're addctive, I have my eyes on the Glamour Puss ones next! And maybe the Rainbow Tigger to go with me rainbow leopard ones! They're expensive but good quality, I googled for a discount code when I got mine and managed to find one that worked.

Boobz that race looks great fun, I did an obstacle race once through the forest at night - it was brlliant, I think I need to do another!

Just did Speed 1.0 and pleased to report I'm STILL alive! I'm not quite sure my legs were doing the right thing in some of the hopping type moves, but I figured so long as I kept moving it couldn't be bad.

onlywhenyouleave · 28/04/2016 16:26

Sorry, haven't got the discount code anymore as it was in a magazine which I have thrown away now - am sure you can google it as someone else has said.

I am so going to treat myself to some of those leggings when I am a size 12 Smile

Had a fab birthday - went out for tea last night and had 3 courses, wine and then birthday cake when we got back. God, I felt awful all night and until about 11am this morning - I said to DH that I don't know what feeling is worse - hunger or being so full! Anyway, back on the diet today Smile

Did Dirty 30 from 21-day fix - have decided to do a hybrid of T25 and 21 day fix to mix things up a bit. Apart from Insanity which I don't really want to do, are there any other 30 minute workouts that I can add to the mix (I only have 30 minutes in the morning)?

yumyumpoppycat · 28/04/2016 17:06

Only happy birthday Flowers p90x3 is 30 mins, and 22HC is 22 minutes, lots of burpees though in 22HC, know your not a fan of those ! I think there is a short piyo workout and some of the HIIT turbofire workouts might be worthwhile, will see what they are called

onlywhenyouleave · 28/04/2016 17:28

yum what is p90x? Is it cardio, weights or a mix? I did want to add the turbofire but they are not available on VK Wink

yumyumpoppycat · 28/04/2016 18:44

p90x3 workouts are pretty varied I like are CVX (light weights cardio) and MMX (martial arts, kickboxing II think) haven't done them in a while so might have that wrong. I think p90x workouts are longer, I haven't done any of those yet but think I might do a hybrid in a few weeks with those added in.

KatieKaboom · 28/04/2016 20:16

Oh my gosh, thanks for the info! I just googled those amazing leggings and I am paralysed with indecision. Your ones are gorgeous! My little daughter can choose me some "bee-wee-ful twousers" for my summer birthday. Smile

only, Happy birthday! Jillian Michaels' s BodyShred and JNL Fusion are also 30 or so mins and wonderful workouts.

poppy, do you need a pull up bar for p90x? Does it have a yoga that isn't ninety mins long?

RoastieToastieReastie · 28/04/2016 20:54

Only, sorry forgot to say happy birthday. If you can't have a day off for yr birthday then when can you Grin

I out my Fitbit on sale on a local fb selling group and I'm surprised how popular it was, I could've sold it four times over! Wondering if I should've put the price higher now Hmm. I've officially given up on it as my reason for purchase was the heart rate bit, which is rubbish. I'm doing to spend the money from selling the Fitbit on a pull up assist yay!

Purple well done on the double up, always a toughie doing a catch up.

Katie I e never followed a proper programme before, I've always done the DVDs 'light' by either doing it 3-4 times a week instead of the 5-6 they put in the programme (as DD wasn't at school and I couldn't workout every day) or I picked and chose various workouts from my selection of DVDs aiming for a mix of cardio and weights. I'm doing hard corps 22 atm and vaguely following the programme for the first time ever. Considering it's only 22 minutes a day I'm impressed with it, but I'm getting a bit bored with the repitition now. From memory you don't need a pull up bar for p90x but you do for p90x2 but don't hold me to that as it may be they did use them but I used a resistance band for that instead (I now have a pull up bar though).

Hc22 cadio 1 and core 2 done. Core 2 just doesn't get any easier for me! I can now do almost proper v ups when initially I couldn't even do the modified version and had to modify the modifier, but other than that my efforts are pretty pitiful.

Purpleraindeer · 28/04/2016 21:24

Argh - posted earlier but then something crashed and I lost it...

Katie - I used to do the schedule to the letter but now I'm a bit more free form. I just aim for 5-6 work outs per week.

P90x3 does need a chin up bar. It's cardio and strength but the cardio isn't as hard as Shaun t.

Friday fight 2 tonight. Had a vague memory that I maxed at 10mins last time so I hung on until 11mins tonight. Sounds pathetic but that first 15mins is evil! Katie - which max30 did you do today?

yumyumpoppycat · 28/04/2016 21:42

Katie I am not sure about p90x, I thought that one used a bar too. There are quite a few workouts in p90x3 that you wouldn't need a pullup bar for, having said that if you love insanity max 30 you might find p90x3 without the challenge of pullups not hardcorey enough. You can modify with a resistance band instead of pullupsbut it might be annoying not to have a bar. There is a good variety of workouts in p90x3 though including a 30 minute yoga session, also a pilates one which I have never actually done. I really should try and go back and do p90x3 more on schedule.

I suck at core work roastie, I hardly ever do it to be honest I like doing paul katami kettlebell abs because it has abs in the title but is actually pretty easy Blush katami Exciting about pull up assist!

Good luck with evil friday fight purple!

KatieKaboom · 29/04/2016 09:56

p90x3 really does sound intriguing, poppy. I might see if a certain Russian site has the yoga workout as a try-before-you-buy type thing. Our local playground has some equipment to do pullups on, but- no, think I'll give that a miss.

After work yesterday, I had a day off from the home vids to go for a run as the weather was perfect for it, but today some genius decided to do Bodyshred Workout 3 followed by Cardio Challenge from Insanity Max 30 today. Having just done the former, I am too knackered to attempt the second- but will see how it goes this evening.

Can anyone tell me what the point of plyo pushups is? I can do them but they are really, really jarring and don't feel healthy or safe. DO you think it would be OK to swap them for travelling pushups (Side to side, as in SHred Level 3), or do plyo pushups have some special value? They pop up in Shaun T vids, of course, but never feel better at all.

So interesting to read about everyone's workout schedules. The new Tony Horton one does sound interesting. Is it not a bit too rar rar America though, or not?

Purpleraindeer · 29/04/2016 11:09

I think plyo push ups build explosive strength. I agree re the jarring - I get lots of height from my legs but about an inch from my arms (weakling!). I am getting better at them. What about doing pop push ups (just arms) or push up jacks instead so you get some of the explosive bit but without the jarring?

KatieKaboom · 29/04/2016 14:40

Thanks for the info, Purple. Weakling, indeed! My feet stay firmly planted on the floor, thank you very much, so I am a bit in awe of your reply, tbh. Grin I never got on with kettlebells and the "explosive strength" stuff as it felt too much like hard work so I'm probably just being a woose. Wuss? No idea how to spell that. Sissy!

poppy, I wholehartedly recommend Insanity Max 30. I am going through the Month 1 workouts for the second (in some cases third) time now and my fitness has already improved after a fortnight! His crew are amazing and inspirational too, and it's so much fun "beating" them. :)

BODYSHRED SEMI-RANT ALERT (please skip if you have no interest in Jillian Michaels):

I noticed something that annoyed me about BodyShred Workout 3 earlier. The workout hammers your quads pretty well at the end (jump squats, jumping lunges, step back planks, pop up front kicks, something else I think, too). Well, she hands over the cooldown stretch to a jock-type called Josh, who calls her "baby girl" (actually, I like that bit- she laughs, but I'm convinced her eyes are saying, "DICKHEAD!"). Anyway, this so-called Josh does a fancy little stretch sequence that hits hardly any of the muscles targeted- he does a little hamstring stretch he probably learnt from Insanity, but the hamstrings were not really challenged here in this workout (that will come in Workout 4), and there is NO stretch specifically for the quads! I think the workout itself is hard- and of course, I'm an experienced enough exerciser that I can stretch out my own damn quads- but these little things annoy me. (Virgo.)

There are also some overly fiddly moves. Take classic Jillian moves- surrenders, and camels dumbbell taps- well, she combines them in a sequence- surrender, then yu go backwards into a camel and tap your toes with your bum, come up again, then do the camel dummbell-to-opposite-toe thing), then get up again. You only have time to do 2-3 of this series in the thirty seconds (it's a "strength" move, by th way), so it actually feels REALLY easy, much easier than 30 seconds of straight surrenders do in NMTZ. See also: crow pushup into flip dog from yoga. Definitely a hard move, but it's definitely much harder to do either of the original moves for thirty seconds straight, IMHO.

That said, my quads were burning as I ran downstairs afterwards, and I definitely know my abs were worked well (elevator planks- brilliant move). The sequence of exercises is REALLY effective and I do have to pause for water / to regroup mentally during the workout, even though it doesn't ever get my heartrate up anywhere close to Insanity Max 30. My muscles feel more 'targeted' with Bodyshred, too, but today's cardio was a jumprope-filled joke, though tomorrow's will be a lot harder.

I don't know which set is "more effective"- love them both, actually- but Insanity Max 30 feels a bit more fun to me, and leaves me redder in the face, so it probably wins. Gotta do Bodyshred Workout 4 tomorrow, though, so I don't have a massively overdeveloped half of my body. Grin

In the time it took me to type all that rubbish, I could have done my second workout. Hmm

Shaun T awaits!

Have a lovely weekend, all!

yumyumpoppycat · 29/04/2016 16:14

Katie I am impressed by your workout analysis, on another level to my usual 'pushupy jumpy things' level of terminology! I tried Im30 for a week but hurt my knee so stopped, but I was about a stone heavier then so I am hoping I will get on better with it now! I think its too harcore for me without some easier workouts dotted in, I will prob aim for 3 a week so it takes me twice as long.

EleanorAbernathy · 30/04/2016 00:08

Grin I'm actually quite liking the sound of Bodyshred! Although I think Jillian's stretches have always been a bit crap in my opinion and I tend to turn her DVDs off at the end and do Shaun T's stretches instead!

Day off T25 today, I'm off work now for 4 days and so is DP and it's the first time off we've had together in ages(I do weird shifts) so we've cleared out the spare room today which was a workout in itself! Lots more DIY planned too - carpet going down in there tomorrow then we're moving in so the bedroom can be decorated (by me!) - I shall try my best to fit a few workouts in around everything.

Health-wise my bad hangover feeling seems to have backed off a bit, but my feet are sort of numb and burny now, which is new - but moving around seems to help.

disappointed101 · 30/04/2016 09:15

Katie I like your analysis of Jillian. Don't flame me people but I think she does these wierd hybrid moves to be innovative. It's like she stole the moves from Shaun T and Tony Horton and changed it to make it less obvious she was copying. Honestly, I was watching one of her workouts and I was like this is just Asylum or p90x recycled.
Anyway, I did some turbojam this morning to work off the sticky toffee pudding I ate last night. I am hybrid ing Turbofire and Hammer and Chisel but I am going to switch out a few fire for jam ones. I live turbojam, it's like going back to the 90s early 2000s and makes me nostalgic. Not as full on as Turbofire but a good workout. I prefer it if I'm honest.
Anyway talk nutrition to me please! I eat clean all week and then the weekend comes and I don't of go mad. Not with meals but treats. Yesterday I had sticky toffee pudding which DH politely told me about the sugar fat and calorie content and I have also bought chocolate. I am not ready to eat clean all the time. I feel like I need treats but when. I do, I feel guilty and can't seem to stick to small portions of them. I don't know what I'm aiming for really. I am at a weight I am happy with but to get super ripped, I would have to ditch the crap altogether. Do I resign myself to the fact that I will never look as good as Autumn? My tummy is crap after two kids :(

caitlinohara · 30/04/2016 15:18

Lots of action on here!

Have just completed Week 2 of P90X and still sticking to schedule. I can honestly say I like it the most of any other workout I have tried so far. I sent P90X3 back in the end because it felt too gimmicky, but to be fair P90X is a BIG time commitment compared to other workouts - 3 x 1hr 15 min workouts, 2 x 1hr and 1 x 90 minutes of Yoga per week so far. I have had to do a lot of rearranging to fit it all in but I am enjoying the fact that it's not so rushed and there is more time to stretchetc and I do genuinely feel awesome. (re pull-up bar - yes you do need one, Chest & Back is basically 1 hr of different grip pull ups alternated with different kinds of push up Shock. This is why I was unable to grate cheese the morning after the first time I did it!)

Katie I know what you mean about Jillian. There are a lot of things I like about her, one of them being that I think she is really good at explaining proper form rather than just assuming you know what you are doing. But I hate the way her workouts are put together - the 3-2-1 thing doesn't work for me for the reasons I gave above, and there were times in Body Revolution where one minute you'd be on your feet, next move on the floor, next move weights, next one wrapping bands round your feet etc etc and it just felt thrown together without any proper flow.

Purpleraindeer · 30/04/2016 20:20

Hi all Smile

Another p90x3 double today. Had birthday cake and pudding at lunch so felt I should.... Disappointed - I have the same issue as you re weekend eating. I did have a v sweet tooth but for 3 or so weeks I did a very clean/low carb diet and after that I really don't like the sugary stuff as much. I'm amazed really as I never thought id say that. Worth a try maybe? Jacksterbear (where are you, we've not seen you in ages?) posted a really good link which showed what sort of sacrifices you needed to make to get to what level of rippedness and it was very interesting - you could prob find it if you went to the top of the thread and looked for links that she posted. It turned out that for me I just wasn't committed enough. I had no idea how much effort it took to look like one of the girls in a Shaun t DVD. someone I know did it and it all got a bit borderline eating disorder. That's my excuse anyway!

Good work Caitlin. I'm a bit scared at the thought of an hour of p90x chest and back. The p90x3 work out like that is only 30mins of pull ups/push ups and it is brutal!

Purpleraindeer · 30/04/2016 21:09

Found the article I meant.....

www.precisionnutrition.com/cost-of-getting-lean

disappointed101 · 30/04/2016 21:22

Thanks so much purple....really interesting! Interesting particularly about the destressing.

RoastieToastieReastie · 01/05/2016 06:36

Very interesting link purple. I've often wondered how much effort is involved with different levels of fitness. Dissapointed I stopped eating anything with added sugar a year and a half ago, mainly because I can't portion control and it's easier not to eat it at all than control eating it. I have dried fruit in small amounts sometimes and I have fruit, but I don't have any other sweetener or sugar. Initially it was awful but it's fine now and I rarely crave sweet things. For me it's easier in a weird way than eating chocolate etc but in small quantities, if I can't have it then I can't have it,.

Caitlin that's great about p90x. I'm thinking of doing that after I finish hc22 in a couple of weeks but I'm worried about the length of the workouts and fitting them in as I may only manage 4 - 5 of the workouts a week. I remember doing the workouts before and getting annoyed at how Tony wouldn't stop talking and after a while did the DVDs a lot quicker as I went through the moves with shorter breaks whilst he faffs chatting.

Hc22 resistance 3 yesterday (I hate the standing up lying down move) and cardio and core today.

Roonerspism · 01/05/2016 13:19

That's a great link. Realistic too! Fortunately, I just want to be lean and healthy.

roastie I am the same. A little dark chocolate isn't enough as I eat the whole bar. It's really hard to break the eating for comfort habit.

caitlinohara · 01/05/2016 14:06

Interesting link. I often wonder - if I just followed an entire programme AND THE NUTRITION PLAN to the letter, what would happen? We are all (presumably) parents here, and all (presumably) having to factor in our family's diets as well and I think that is the deciding factor for me - I can't expect dh and the kids to work around MY diet, and I don't want to be seen to be eating differently to everyone else in the house because I don't want to give my kids hang ups about food.

Actually that brings me on to something else - how do you talk to your kids about your workouts? We have tried to be very careful here about the language we use because again I am very aware of not giving the dcs the idea that overweight = bad or making them begin to be critical of their own bodies. I find JM very focussed on how each move will 'sculpt' your body and how you will look 'hot in a bikini' and I noticed that the dcs were starting to pick up on that kind of language and I didn't like it.

Roastie I know what you mean about the time thing and that's why I really wanted to like P90X3... but I didn't. Recently I realised that ALL my favourite workouts are 'long' ones. I think I am just lazy and hate being rushed through a workout ... so a bit of hey, go get some water, this is what we're doing next, by the way you might want to pause it here, oh and BUY MY SUPPLEMENTS etc is all fine by me! (Disclaimer: Ab Ripper X is relentless though. 15 minutes of abs with no breaks, 3 times a week. It had better work.)

KatieKaboom · 01/05/2016 15:43

This weekend, did Insanity Max 30: Cardio Challenge for the third time, and my maxout time has only slightly improved (from 8:32 to 10:32), but I'll take it, given that TOTM aways wipes me out a bit. Definitely noticing an improvement in endurance despite only doing this maybe 4 times a week. So much fun and Shaun T is insanely likeable in this- less soothing/patronising than in t25, but nicer than Insanity! But those in and out abs with the shoulder taps- I just burst out laughing, because I CANNOT do them, i.e. jump the feet back and raise the arm at the same time. So it's all a bit jerky and comical. Shaun T also gets a bit campy a couple of times- as when he trills, "Suicide burpeeeees!", and I LOVE that. Smile

Also did Bodyshred Workout 4, which is much better/harder cardio-wise than Workout 3 (the only non-floor-based plyometrics move was an easier version of the "Scissor-stance-jack" from Insanity- in fact, I remember seeing this exact move in JNL Fusion), You can also go heavier with the weights- I used 7kg and 3kg dumbbells, but will up them a bit next time. A good routine and my core felt it. Zuzka in the back row is MUCH better at the moves than the man who is doing the advanced modifications. Grin

Caitlin, big congrats on two solid weeks of p90x, which is a huge achievement in itself! Andthat is such a good point about the stuff the kids pick up on. If my daughter chose my daily workout, she would ALWAYS opt for Jillian, as she loves the "exercise womans" [sic] and, in particular, Jillian's habit of doing countdowns. However, you're right- she does talk a lot about saddle bags and booty shorts and bingo wings and "that little pooch that you chicks don't dig"- and that really isn't chat that my wee girl should be being exposed to. Confused Food for thought. I do like Jillian's personality aside from those inanities. I'll pay more attention that, for sure.

That said, I quite often stop myself from doing a second daily workout session at the weekend because really, there is no need for a non-athlete to do more than an hour; it's just taking away from family time and possibly teaching my daughter to over-exercise and possibly making her feel lower down on my list of priorities than my Need for Visible Abs.

disappointed, I have the exact same food thing- sweet tooth, social overeater. However, my weight is stable, albeit at about a stone heavier than when I look really slim. Perhaps this is fine? Do you really want to look like Autumn? I doubt Autumn looks like Autumn most of the time- she would fast and not drink water before any photoshoots. And worse still- she likes LINE DANCING! Wink

I also completely agree with you about Jillian stealing stuff! I remember smirking when doing JNL Fusion at the stupid stuff Jennifer comes out with- she says that this is all about "speed, agility and quickness." And I'm shouting at the TV, "SPEED AND QUICKNESS ARE THE SAME THING, YOU SCONE." But then, lo, and behold, what line does Jill trot out in her Cardio 1 for her new Bodyshred set? "Speed, agility and quickness!" No WAY could they both come up with that idiotic statement? I'm also seeing a lot of Insanity stuff in Bodyshred- which is a plus, to be honest. I am pleased she has finally realised that to make supermans challenging, you need to keep your damn feet off the floor.

Must give Turbojam a whirl, too! Just as an aside, this thread is going to be bad for my bank balance, what with all this talk of rainbow leopard print capri leggings and p90x and other stuff.

Purple, that is a GREAT link and again, food for thought. Seems as though it must be pretty miz to be ripped-looking.

eleanor, Bodyshred is not perfect but it is amazing and worth doing and you're right, Jillian's always been crap at stretching. I will make a habit of using Shaun T afterwards. (Have rephrased that sentence three times to make it sound less cougarish/desperate housewife-y, but couldn't.)

poppy, I am a new convert myself, but you should give Insanity Max 30 another whirl! Like you, I couldn't do it six times a week- three or four might be the sweet spot for such intense cardio.

roastie and rooners, I'm like that with choccy, too. Also wine. Blush Not sure I have the willpower to cut either of them out, though. How do you make yourself want to?

Argh, Christ, another novel. Sorry- promise I'll calm down soon- it's just so nice to find other people who know these workouts and understand my Shaun T love! My husband and child are watching Man U- Leicester and so I thought I'd inflict my prattle on you all.

Purpleraindeer · 01/05/2016 20:14

Hello - am shattered... Am really feeling the effects of my double yesterday, plus max out cardio and ab attack today. First time I've ever done ab attack (the 10min ab workout in max30) despite having done max30 on and off for months and months. Blush. It was certainly painful! I thought I had strong abs. Am reconsidering that assessment now!

I know what you mean re jillian and her body image chat. I like Shaun better as he's more about just trying hard. I tell my kids I do my exercises to be fit and strong. They often watch tv or play in the same room whilst I do it. Today ds (18mths) was climbing on my back whilst I did press ups. He thought it was hilarious. I thought I might actually die.

I remember my first go on those ab/shoulder tap things Katie - I actually thought it must be a sick joke. I like them now - it's about getting a rhythm going and then they feel a bit less awkward.

Have a good evening everyone. Smile

disappointed101 · 01/05/2016 21:23

Thank you Roastie and Katie for your thoughts on food. I think I have to not get over obsessed about things. I just need to make peace with myself and be more realistic.
Good job on the Max 30 progress Katie! I agree, some of his moves are strange to master!
Purple with ab attack, I struggle.hate ab work so I usually modify so I am keeping my lower back on the floor. One day will get stronger.
Was over friends for a roast today and had been out in the morning so decided to do workout just now. Note to oneself....do not workout in the evening after food. It made me feel yucky. Hammer plyo metrics in the bag. I love how it is only 25 minutes. Think I am going to do Turbofire 55 ex tomorrow as it is the longest workout for next week on my schedule.
I usually workout early in the morning so my boys don't usually get to see me. My eldest joins in if he does which is cute.
I have noticed they are more mindful of what they eat. They look at sugar in things, fat calories etc and want to know if it is healthy. My ultra skinny one has the sweet tooth and my fruit and veggie loving other is solid, go figure!!!
