Ouch keyser, poor ankle! I hope you can get it sorted for your race, fingers crossed for you.
anglaise what a great result, well done.
Beautiful sunny day, did long run up nearby hill, gorgeous views

10k race for me. So enjoyable, course was flat and the scenery was STUNNING.
Even managed 11th lady! which i wasn't expecting.

Did measure slightly long which is a shame but it's all good training, so 6.4 to add.

Don't think i'll get a chance to run tomorrow so that's a nice way to wrap up februarys running.

Sorry to hear that KeyserSophie, at least you know you've got it for the next one but I'd have cried too!!

Well done Anglaise1! Did you get something ugly for 2nd?

Well done lastqueenofscotland! Fab position!

I had a lovely run at Cambridge half marathon. A few wobbly bits but never thought I'd stop running, despite seeing stars at one point. The new course was fab, the bit from grantchester back to town was a bit solitary but so many runner! 5300 finished out of 7000 entered. Saw two runners receiving cpr which was hideous but otherwise enjoyed the whole experience! 1081.9

Anglaise1 · 28/02/2016 16:50

Sounds like you had a lovely run emummy I'm jealous of your hills and views!
Congrats on your 10k Last and well done on your HM Cinners! How dreadful that there were 2 runners receiving CPR, though, I hope they are OK. I used to live near Cambridge and even though it is flat it probably isn't easy to run as there is little recuperation.
Got nothing for being 2nd in the category, they only recompensed the first in each category instead of the first 3 as usual so nothing at all. Considering the number of runners (800) it was pretty poor, and there was no T shirt either, just a packet of crisps, a bottle of water and a cake. It used to be the norm to get a T shirt for every race but they are given out less and less now, even for the bigger races. We've never got medals here in France, but the T shirts always came in handy. Its a shame as the entry fees are not getting any smaller, not sure why the organisers are being so tight!

cinnamongreyhound · 28/02/2016 17:04

Could have bought one for Cambridge hm but entry was expensive for me so I didn't, the medal is huge though and a very good goodie bag too. News says both are critical, one in his 50s and one in his 30s. My time was 2:02:29 Smile

Great time Cinners and very nice medal and goody bag! Sad for the 2 guys. I hope they are OK. Things like that lead to scaremongering saying running is dangerous but in fact it is usually only people who haven't trained properly, or at all, who have problems (or perhaps extremely high temperatures).

emummy · 28/02/2016 18:15

Well done cinnamon great time.
Here Anglaise a picture for you

thats my understanding, if you've not done the right kind of training, ie built up slowly over a long period then pushing yourself very hard in a race could be dangerous...you'd be pushing yourself to max heart rate for about 2 hours.

I suppose people overlook the amount of adaptation that goes on in your body when you start doing a strenuous physical activity regularly?

backinschool · 28/02/2016 21:25

Sounds like there were lots of lovely runs today but terrible news about the runners receiving CPR.

I managed my first 5km run tonight and I'm really proud of myself. I even managed to speed up a bit at the end when I realised I might make it in under 35 minutes. It took me 34m 34s in the end.

FiftyNineOhEight · 28/02/2016 22:36

Keyser so sorry to hear about your injury you poor thing. Tears would have been shed here too!

Well done Anglaise, lastqueen and cinnamon on some brilliant running and lovely bling. I don't think I will be getting anything so exciting at my HM next weekend Smile. DS1 and I are running the Sheffield half in April and I got an email today offering me a discount on the Leeds half and telling me I'd get a special tee-shirt for doing both. Not persuaded though!

backinschool you are a Star and you should feel very proud of yourself, especially on a strong finish.

emmummy that's a gorgeous view.

Only parkrun for me this weekend. My garmin says I did it in 27 something, but that's because it didn't start until about half a mile in Grin. Not sure I will get out much this week, boss is away on holiday and I've been feeling feeling a bit tired and under the weather for the last week.

No running for me today I've got a really grotty tummy for some reason.

The Cambridge half goody bag looks great. Agree re running being dangerous, it's usually people who've gone way too hard. I do hope they are ok but slating distance running (ie anything further than 10k) seems an ever growing backlash against its growing popularity

MyBlackCat · 29/02/2016 20:23

A steady 3.5 miles that I shouldn't have run. Felt a bit better today, felt awful straight after. Didn't make my 15 mile run on Saturday, still gutted about it, but definitely made the right decision.

keyser sorry about your injury. Well done to all those that raced over the weekend.

CaptainWarbeck · 01/03/2016 01:53

Oooh a running thread, I was hoping MN had one. I'm just getting back into it after having DS ten months ago, used to love it but all tester runs have been terrible up to now! Did a comfortable 3k yesterday and bounced along quite happily so am looking at signing up to a 12k in 3 months and a HM 3 months after. Never done a HM before, it's my ultimate goal!

What apps do you all use for tracking runs and training plans etc? I've got Nike run set up and am toying with using the Asics Run app for a plan but interested to hear other people's favourites?

CaptainWarbeck · 01/03/2016 01:55

I'll add in mine: 1112.4

cinnamongreyhound · 01/03/2016 10:45

Hi CaptainWarbeck, my ds3 is just over 10months. I did Cambridge hm on Sunday, I find it a tough distance! Ive only done 4 over a couple of years. I use endomondo for tracking my runs and now I have a Fitbit I use the Fitbit app too. I don't really use either for planning runs. Mapmyrun has a good website for planning and an app.

CaptainWarbeck · 01/03/2016 11:02

Thanks cinnamon, nice one on Sunday's effort!

Went out for another run, now have knee pain on the inside bit of my knee. Hurts to walk on. Envy I'm going to have to rest it and not be able to tick off my week's training runs aren't I?!

emummy · 01/03/2016 11:04

Ok run this morning, legs still a bit stiff from Sunday. Managed my strides afterwards so pleased with that.
Welcome Captain, I use my Tomtom and Mapmyrun, usually get training plans from magazines so haven't used any apps.

MorrisZapp · 01/03/2016 11:09

Glorious day here on Sunday so I cranked out eight miles, I go very slowly but I like the distance aspect. Got the Edinburgh ten mile next month!

1120.4

HalleLouja · 01/03/2016 14:13

11.5 miles from Sunday makes 1131.9 for Feb.

Am now getting girl flu so hopefully will be well enough to run Berko HM on Sunday.

Anglaise1 · 01/03/2016 19:39

Welcome to the thread Captain I use a Garmn forerunner 210 GPS watch for tracking my runs and I upload to Strava where I can upload the run plans, mileage, heart rate etc. and follow other people.
8 to add for yesterday so 1139.9 for Feb and 10 to kick off March today dog runs and club session

lastqueenofscotland · 01/03/2016 20:41

Angliaise I think emummy did 8 today so we are at 18 + 5.25 from me.

Feeling a bit stuck in a rut at the moment. Marathon training seems to be making me slower and I keep slipping into junk milage in the week. I'm going to get it out of the way and then totally shake up what I'm doing.

KeyserSophie · 02/03/2016 06:39

just adding 10k from gym commute/ ankle testers today, so roughly 6 miles. Ankle has miraculously mended itself- hurrah!! Translantau 50 here I come! Hokas are going in the bin though.....

lastqueen I think marathon training can make you feel a bit "duty bound" and using commutes for training sessions is really hard, although they're great time savers. Irecently realised Strava was sucking me into chasing mileage over quality (i'm not criticising high mileage plans, just that I was basically letting myself equate a 5k gym commute, stopping at all the lights and dodging pedestrians, with a 5k technical trail or interval session).

Now, I'm basically targeting 1 track session, 1 hill session, 1 long run. Anything else is optional. Run to the gym or dont. Dont care if I lose in all mileage competitions on Strava (well... I'm trying not to.....).

It has made me feel better- maybe I was just a bit overtrained. Not sure.

TheonlyoneIknow · 02/03/2016 12:38

Hi! I was on this thread ages ago! And now that I feel running is borderline taking over my life (London Marathon looming fast) I remembered about it!

I think I live near emummy (vaguely remember convos about us both doing the Illuminator last year?) although i'm on the coast and not inland.

Fitting in 4 runs a week is a real struggle at the moment and I feel like my life is micro managed down to the half hour! I'm not going to complain too much though as I know how lucky I am to get a ballot place for London.

Anyone else find they are more susceptible to colds? I think running is lowering my immunity although picking up DS and DD from school/nursery right after my long runs probably isn't helping!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/03/2016 14:16

That's one of the things that puts me off entering a marathon lastqueenofscotland! I bet you'd be surprised at the improvements you're making it just doesn't feel like it. Plus you're running further so will be getting fitter.
Hi theonlyoneiknow! I have a pretty good immune system, don't suffer often from colds thankfully!

4 miles this morning, post hm legs were fine but my shoulder where I fell last week was sore straight after my run. 33.25
