Hello! Can I join in to just have a 'very proud" moment without a thread of my own and no promise I'll hang around?! This seems like the best place to put it but I'm not (haven't been?) a serious runner.

Long story - started running 7 yrs ago with c25k, got quite into it. Got up to running 4 miles regularly, moved, already had 2 v young children, husband working away, got pregnant, had baby, husband still away, moved to Middle East, too hot, children too young, excuses blablabla. Have occasionally made short lived forays back into it so haven't started from scratch as such but...

In December I realised that if I don't just do it, I won't. As in exercise, lose weight, run - any combination. So I started. I think my first run was 24th December. Have been using treadmill in gym (have one on housing compound) as time is short and the only place to run straight from home is all very concrete or rubble. Started midway through a c to 10k programme. Today I ran 4 miles and felt great. I am so pleased with myself and my husband is bored of hearing it!

cinnamongreyhound · 29/01/2016 12:07

I run mostly off road so my risk of overuse injuries are reduced I think suzannecaravaggio but I also assumed treadmill would be gentler.

That's great sheepareextinct! Well done. I always think the first run is the hardest, once you get your head in gear your body usually follows!

An incredibly windy run this morning still with little dog only, big dog is walking properly now with the odd limp but he's such a loon off lead I want to give him a few more days!

Just watched some of the programme and I'm not surprised that running outdoors is generally better for your joints, your speed or your head, but then I'm not a gym bunny and live in the countryside so its a pleasure running outside.
Good luck with your race Keyser (it may well be finished by now!) and to everyone else racing and park running. I hope you have less wind and rain than we have here, I'm not looking forward to my 10k tomorrow morning. 9.3 to add from yesterday.

well done sheep and please do hang around. Newcomers always welcome. I used to live in Middle East (Dubai). Yeah, hard to do outdoor running due to pavements just petering out . The park was ok but got boring, and far too hot in the summer to do anything.

The race today was "character building". Really thin field of runners (it's actually advertised as a charity hike but has attracted a lot of runners historically) so was alone for a lot of it- was actually hard to remember it was a race. Lack of long runs showed in the second half. Was in the pain cave for a long time. Came 4th but tbh that's nothing to write home about and time wasn't great vs. last year. Still, adding 27.5 to make 1262.05

lastqueenofscotland · 30/01/2016 11:23

4.8 from last night and 3.1 parkrun miles. Great fun at parkrun need to go more often.

Fourth sounds good to me!!

lastqueenofscotland · 30/01/2016 11:28

Just found out I was 1st in my age category at parkrun this morning! Pretty happy with that.

FiftyNineOhEight · 30/01/2016 11:47

Well done lastqueen! I was last at parkrun today, because I volunteered as tail runner Grin It was lovely, I brought in a new runner who wanted to give up, but I kept her going to the end and she gave me a big hug. One of the regulars came over and told me she had a little tear in her eye watching it Smile.

I won't log the miles, as I mostly walked with a dog walker, who gave up on the second lap, so I had to run about half a mile to catch up with the next last person Grin

Well done for your run Keyser, 4th sounds good, and to run such a long way alone takes determination.

Welcome sheep, please stay!

cinners glad that big dog is looking better Smile

3.1 parkrun miles from me. I drove as I set up and so didn't take any dogs.

well done KeyserSophie, still very impressive!

Well done lastqueenofscotland! Yes you should, everyone should go to parkrun at least once a week month.

lastqueenofscotland · 31/01/2016 08:03

I'll defo try to go once a month now there is one near me. Before the nearest was a while away with three hefty hills. Now there's one a couple of miles away that's flat.
I'm going to go next week and jog back I think

emummy · 31/01/2016 10:32

Went for run in the forest this morning, much fun keeping my feet amidst the snow and ice, with a wee bit of climbing over fallen trees thrown in - and had to lift the dog over one!

cinnamongreyhound · 31/01/2016 10:39

Sounds more pleasant than my drizzly run emummy!

Did two laps this morning, first shorter one with both dogs and second longer with little dog. Big dog went off after a herd of deer and is now broken again Sad 10.5 last January miles on total to add 1291.7

emummy · 31/01/2016 10:42

Oh no, poor big dog. We encountered a deer too, but it was far too fast for dog, and she gave up quite quickly. Is it his paw again?

familygermsareok · 31/01/2016 15:42

12.8 miles to add from 3 runs over the last week including a snowy parkrun yesterday. It was blizzard conditions at the start and I actually considered just going back to the car but half way round the blizzard passed and by the end there were blue skies overhead with sparkling snow underfoot, really beautiful Smile
DH was volunteering, he was frozen by the end. Running was much better option yesterday.

I love parkrun lastqueen, I am gradually indoctrinating neighbours and DH into the joy of running via parkrun, have got 3 who previously claimed they couldn't ever run doing it regularly now Grin

Well done on your race Keyser, sounds like a tough one to keep going.

Good luck with your race today Anglaise

Welcome sheep, great you are enjoying the running again. I find it much harder mentally to keep going on a treadmill, well done you. Please stay and add your miles to our total.

Sorry to hear big dog is injured again cinnamon. The deer must have been just too hard to resist. Hope he gets better soon.

Anglaise1 · 31/01/2016 17:26

Well done on your marathon race Keyser especially as you were running on your own a lot.
And Last Q on your park runs. We don't have them here in France Sad the mentality is a little different, just like most people don't run for charity but for themselves.
So sorry to hear about big dog's paw Cinners I hope he gets better soon.
Family your snowy runs sound lovely, but I have a lot of sympathy for the poor volunteers, they must get pretty cold standing around.
8 miles to add from my 10k race plus warm up. The weather wasn't as bad as feared and although it wasn't a course to do a good time because of the hills I managed 46m and came in 15th out of the 340 women running and 3rd in my age category so first podium of the year which was very unexpected as it is a big race (1300 competitors) and attracts some of the really good runners. I much prefer longer races but its good marathon training practice and the legs recover quickly!
1312.5

FiftyNineOhEight · 31/01/2016 18:17

7.25 miles to add today, I was going to go out this afternoon to do 10 but there was a break in the rain clouds late morning so I thought I'd take my chances while DH was preparing lunch. I couldn't go as far as I wanted because I had to be back in time for said lunch. Had the wind in my face all the way home, so felt that I had earned it!

1319.75 (wishing I'd done an extra 0.25 now to give us a nice round total Grin

Thankfully he starting putting it down again on our evening walk albeit carefully so hopefully he hasn't done too much damage. There's a tiny spot from the original cut that isn't quite healed.

cinnamongreyhound · 31/01/2016 20:49

Sorry posted too soon! Well done Anglaise1, awesome as always and everyone else who's run this weekend Smile

MyBlackCat · 01/02/2016 19:16

I've got 3.6 miles from Saturday to add so

1323.35

And 4.5 from today and by my reckoning it's a new month so...

4.5

cinnamongreyhound · 01/02/2016 20:40

3.2 from me with my canicross club, pretty quick which was nice 7.7

lastqueenofscotland · 01/02/2016 20:52

5.2 from me today (I think - garmin was all over the place)
Got the day off work tomorrow so going to try and get a longer one in

12.9

Anglaise1 · 01/02/2016 20:55

6.1 dog run

emummy · 02/02/2016 11:07

First run of training for April's 15 mile race. Was fine, but last 2 miles like running in a wind tunnel! Will not miss storm Henry when he finally buggers off!
24.3

KeyserSophie · 02/02/2016 12:40

5 from me on the track- was 1600,1600,1200,1200,800,800,400,400. All at 5k pace with 1 min in between. Had to skip a lap of the 1200m as thought I was going to puke, die, cry or all three. Possibly too much after Saturday's crappy soul-sucking marathon (dramatic, moi??). Going on a social hill jaunt tomorrow as not working, so hoping I'll get my mojo back.

29.3

Loueytb3 · 02/02/2016 15:59

Adding in 60.32 for the last 10 days of January and 5.19 miles for today. Have been finding it hard going, lost my mojo a bit and have been struggling with a cold but feel a bit back on track today. But blimey, it's a tad windy out there. At times I was barely moving forward and I am nowhere near the action. I pity you poor lot in Scotland, it must be a nightmare!

Keyser – are you surviving the cold? Can't believe they shut the schools because it was too cold – I can never remember that happening before.

Anglaise – well done on the 3rd place! V quick time.

Fiftynine – Well done on volunteering and getting that lady around. It must have been the happiest last place you've ever had. I have entered Royal Parks ballot but its more than £50 to enter if you get in which is quite frankly extortionate for a half marathon, even one in London. Still, I will probably do it if (and that's a big if) I get a place.

Lastqueen – well done on the 1st place!

Welcome sheep
