Struggling with cold hands on my runs
I take a thin pair of plastic/surgical gloves to put under or over my regular gloves if it's especially cold or wet. Then stuff them in a pocket when my hands warm up.
Might work for you Louey?

You need some motorcycle gloves Loueytb3 Wink

Be careful KeyserSophie, hope it feels better quickly!

4 miles from me in the cold and dark this morning, big dog has injured a foot so may be only little dog and I in our race on Saturday Sad 959.99

3 lunchtime miles from me.

Thank you for the trail shoe advice lovely people - I will take myself off to the running shop. I run in saucony triumphs as my normal shoe, so would be interested in trying out a hybrid shoe.

Yoga tomorrow, parkrun on Saturday and longish run on Sunday.

cinners I had an email last week to say there were still plenty of CBR places left Wink

I hear you with the pulled ab muscle emummy. I'm sitting out strength training this week as I pulled mine the week before. Luckily it's in a place that isn't bothered by running/walking just certain movements, like turning over in bed Hmm. It was a case of a terrified curl and huddle over every time a sneeze threatened last week. Hope you recover soon, you have my sympathy.

In awe of 55kg lift keyser. Definitely take it easy and hope you feel better soon.

My dad actually just arrived home tonight with Nike thermal running gloves for himself Louey so they definitely do exist.

Question about intervals, explain like I'm five :) I've been doing some unstructured fartlek every now and again but want to start intervals. What way would be good for a beginner to them? By time or distance and what sort of recovery between each?

9 mile run, 0.7 treadmill warm up at the gym and 4 mile hills to add so far this week.

Suzanne It was just a push press (i.e. from the rack, shoulder to overhead) but I have a bad habit of letting the bar get too far in front of me. Ah well..next time. Back feels ok today anyway. Phew.

anglaise pretty respectable- 5.40/km or so. My current theory is she's a professional dog walker Grin

Adding a miserable, cold and wet 11.8 to make 997.99. Was supposed to be 16 but I just couldnt face going up into the hills again, so jumped on the bus at the road. Realised I need to have a really easy week next week to have any chance of doing well in the race next weekend. Planning short easy runs and lots of rolling.

emummy · 22/01/2016 10:58

yes custard turning over in bed is not fun! And not helped by the persistent dry cough I currently have.
Steady run in the rain this morning, was complemented on my running form by a friend I met, so quite chuffed!

Custard you should do intervals in distance. I don't know how fit you are, but something like 8 x 200m as a start, building up from there. If you do 12 x 200m do in two sets of 6 and a longer recovery time after the first 6. For my marathon plan I do my 16 x 200m in 46 seconds with 45s recovery time, but you really need to see what time suits your speed. You should be able to do all your intervals in the same time, so don't do the first one too fast or you'll have no juice left for the last ones! Don't forget to have a good warm up jog before of 40mins or so and a shorter one after.
Keyser yes, you must taper properly next week. I never do and always regret it during the race itself.
emummy how nice to be complimented on your running form.
9.4 with my marathon friend in the cold pouring rain this morning. Warm up run plus intervals of 400m, 500m and 200m.

Ooch, the thought of a pulled muscle and a cough is making me wince emummy. How lovely being complimented on your form, I'd be delighted.

Thanks very much for the info Anglaise. I think that's where I've been going wrong in the past; have gone far too fast at the start, knackered myself and given up. I've been doing HIIT classes and time intervals on the gym machines the past few months and found I actually quite enjoy it, helps with the boredom. I'll give the 200s a whirl next week.

Good luck with your race tomorrow cinnamon and hope big dog's foot is feeling better :)

Just adding to the hybrid trail shoe chat, I have a pair of Brooke's cascadia, they are great. When I did my HM they were fine on both forest path and Tarmac towpath

3.1 parkrun miles from me

Anglaise1 · 23/01/2016 13:38

18.2 miles from my long run this morning, in the fog, with the dog.
How's your big dog doing Cinners? I hope his paw is better even if he wasn't well enough to run today.
1039.33

cinnamongreyhound · 23/01/2016 14:45

Thanks guys, he won't put it down but it's not a big cut and I'm sure it will heal soon. He came along to the race and I was questioned by many people who thought I was going to race him. Me and little dog ran well and I think I have a 10k pb! It felt really hard and then I realised I was under 52mins so that'll be why! 1045.53

familygermsareok · 23/01/2016 16:24

3.1 parkrun this morning, nice and muddy, and much warmer than last week.

Well done on PB cinnamon, that's brilliant Smile
Hope big dog gets better soon. Was he a bit confused about why he wasn't racing today, or just glad not to have to use his sore paw?

Sounds like a lovely long atmospheric run Anglaise.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/01/2016 12:10

He was just happy to be out meeting other dogs familygermsareok and when I went back to get him from the car he was asleep but once he was out again he was wagging away. We've been out this morning and he didn't even get off his bed when he heard the harnesses but he did corn downstairs to greet us when we got home!

Did my 18 miler slightly sore but on a real high now. It's a wonderful hobby when it goes right isn't it

emummy · 24/01/2016 14:24

It certainly is lastqueen!
Squeezed in short run while ds was at a church thing, then off an hour away for dd2 to do cross country. Not such a good day for her, she was aiming for top 5 but came 7th. Chocolate cheered her up though!

FiftyNineOhEight · 24/01/2016 16:36

3.1 parkrun miles yesterday and 9.65 long run today. I really flagged on the way home, running back into the wind, and hadn't taken a drink or snack with me. I didn't eat much yesterday, which I think is why. Joining you, lastqueen on your cloud now that I have eaten and showered Smile

Well done cinners on your 10K PB!

7th still sounds pretty good emummy, glad the chocolate was a good pick-me-up Smile. And impressive indoctrination of young people Grin. My not-so-smalls were (DS1) competing in a rowing competition and (DS2) rugby training today, it makes me so pleased that they love their sport. Is your pulled muscle better?

OP posts:
emummy · 24/01/2016 16:46

Yes it's good to seem them out enjoying sport. I think 7th is fine too, but she was 4th in the last race and had built her hopes up I think. Still 2 to go in the series, so fingers crossed.
Stomach muscle pretty much better now, just occasional wee twinges, has been replaced by kidney pain, possibly another stone so off to the doctor for me! Can still run though, I like to think the jiggling up and down helps shove the stone along!

FiftyNineOhEight · 24/01/2016 17:09

Ouch! My Dad has had kidney stones in the past and they were super-painful. Keep on jiggling!

OP posts:
Anglaise1 · 24/01/2016 20:19

Ouch a well for the kidney stones emummy. Congrats on your 10k PB cinners and your long runs lastqueen and fifty.
12 miles from me to add to the 18 from the long run yesterday, there were only a few of us from the club as most were at the cross country race, and we did the proposed club trail race course so were knee deep in puddles and mud on the footpaths for a lot of the time. Good fun, though, just wish I hadn't worn my new trainers. At least they don't look new anymore!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/01/2016 22:38

51:47 Shock for my 10k, I felt I was working bloody hard. Doggy must have helped but she wasn't pulling the whole time, previous road pb was 54:56 so I'm well chuffed!
