I'm yet to foam roll... Im putting it off as long as possible. I am vv lucky injury wise (ie bar the odd ache I just don't get them)

5.3 today. Vvvv slow but actually really happy as I totally wanted to stop 1.25 in and for once didn't let myself, just told myself it didn't matter if they were my usual 8 min miles or the 10 min miles they turned into just to not bloody stop. And I didn't bloody stop. Grin

494.2

MyBlackCat · 11/11/2015 19:48

Just under three treadmill interval miles from me, I had to stop the last one and run to the toilet and throw up Shock

I love my foam roll but I hate stretching, I'm so inflexible.

Race sounds lovely anglaise It's on the flat I would like to be faster. I think I just need to push myself. I seem to have the hills sorted. In fact I kinda of enjoy them but not the flat.

Race on Sunday is all flat. In Brighton so I thought yeah for a PB although looking at the forecast it's for gusts of wind up to 69kph! Shock

Not using my foam roller but am currently doing a 30 day programme from the Internet to improve flexibility and running technique. There are a few of us doing it so makes you more likely to complete it everyday.

Glad you are feeling better sirzy

cinnamongreyhound · 11/11/2015 20:37

Well done lastqueenofscotland!

Lovely to see you back Sirzy!!!!!

Well done on your second and fab race momento Anglaise1

suzannecaravaggio · 11/11/2015 21:02

my usual 8 min miles

blimey thats good for training runs Lastqueen your race pace must be really good...6 or 7 minute miles?

standingonlego · 11/11/2015 21:04

Please can you lovely folk give me some reassurance and any last few days advice? I am running my first HM in several years this Saturday, it is mixed terrain - Canal tow path and trail. I have fallen off training wagon this week. Last run was park run on sat but I have being doing a 9ish mile long run for the last 4-5 weekends and feeling fine

So.....having a little panic ! What should I do in these last few days to help me survive and get round in one piece?

runtothehills · 11/11/2015 21:19

Anglaise well done on your race! My uphill is not the strongest but I've been working on it, however downhill is my forte Grin you need to open up, lengthen your stride, lean forwards, flail your arms like a maniac, oh and have complete faith in some very good grippy shoes. I manage sub six min miles on a good downhill, not the best with a weak bladder though Blush.

I'm not a piper fan either, will maybe pay him to shut up Wink, glad the race in on Saturday and not tomorrow night looking at the forecast.

Booked my place on next years Highlander Mountain Marathon, last one they're organising so it should be a great send off. Good motivation for winter training.

Good luck on Saturday emummy Grin Grin

Oh and 7 from Tuesday, 504

suzannecaravaggio · 11/11/2015 21:20

12 miles from me

I have fallen off training wagon this week
I'm no expert Standingon but I think thats what your supposed to do...ie 'taper'? :)

standingonlego · 11/11/2015 21:26

Thank you suzanne....perfect !!!! Just what I needed to hear :)

standingonlego · 11/11/2015 21:26

Gets Wine

lastqueenofscotland · 11/11/2015 21:32

Stand that's fine not to push it in the last week

Suzanne I'm a pretty fast 10k runner (round 45 mins when racing) and once fluked a 20 min 5k Much further is still a wonder into the unknown!
I did a ten mile race in 90 mins and while I was happy I had loads left so obviously have to do some next year and see what we can do to that time. I'm a bit of a speed junkie tbh.

suzannecaravaggio · 11/11/2015 21:43

I guess it depends a lot on the distance, I can manage a 9:30 pace over 10 miles (on a good day) so I guess theoretically in a race situation I could squeeze out a 9 minute mile?

I'm all talk and no action on the race front though Blush

suzannecaravaggio · 11/11/2015 22:03

thanks for the Standingon :)
as I understand it you'd need something like 2 or 3 weeks of no running to become de-trained, from a cardio vascular as well as neuromuscular perspective...although the two probably have different trajectories?

cinnamongreyhound · 12/11/2015 09:35

Those of you that run more than me, do you do every day? I've been invited to a charity event which is running at least 5k or 25mins whichever comes first every day in December (including Christmas Day) I'm just generally not sure about running every day. Time wise I think it will annoy dh and I'm rd on Boxing Day at parkrun so that will mean 2.5hrs there plus a run and I unless I'm up ridiculously early I think Christmas Day would be a push but I'm not sure physically how I'd cope either!

4.5 miles this morning, diversion due to huge scary forestry machines blocking our usual route but it was nice having the variety! 523.5

suzannecaravaggio · 12/11/2015 10:24

5k per day is 22.4 miles a week
Thats not an excessive amount of running
Sounds as if the issue is whether it fits with your family commitments?

suzannecaravaggio · 12/11/2015 10:38

.....however, if 22.4 miles per week is a big jump from your current running schedule Cinnamon then it may cause problems
25 minutes of exercise per day for someone who is generally fit and healthy should be no problem, but 25 mins of running everyday could lead to injuries if it's more than you are used to.

Didnt Halle do a similar challenge, but she included cycling aswell as running?
What about 5k per day of either running or brisk walking?

emummy · 12/11/2015 10:46

If you are walking the dogs everyday cinnamon could the run just fit in with that? For me running that amount wouldn't be an increase in mileage, but I do enjoy my days off!
Little fast road run this morning, last before race.goid luck on Saturday runtothehills, hope the storm doesn't leave behind snow or lots of fallen trees to scramble over! Just walked ddog and felt the temperature drop within that hour and the wind is picking up. What fun!
520.7

KeyserSophie · 12/11/2015 12:15

I've seen a few things about an Advent Streak Cinnamon. I did consider it, but I think it'd just stress me out as there are a few days where it's going to be a real chore as we fly to the UK on 20th for Christmas and then it'll be manic. Early mornings are a possibility but I want to be able to have a few vinos without thinking about getting up at 5.30. I'd rather agree to alternate days with DH or get MIL to babysit and get a longer run in less often IYSWIM.

Just adding 2.5 from my (one way) gym commute to make 523.2

cinnamongreyhound · 12/11/2015 12:31

Yes you're probably right with dog walking emummy!

Currently I run 3-4 days a week suzannecaravaggio. I tend to do parkrun Saturday so 5k and 4 miles ish the others. But I do walk the dogs twice a day (one is a run on the days I do run) for 20mins plus walking to school and back twice or three times a day. Plus I'm doing a hm in Feb so have started increasing my longest run, only up to 6.5miles at the moment.

FiftyNineOhEight · 12/11/2015 13:18

I attempted a "run every day in " a while ago. I don't think I completed it - it became a chore rather than fun, even though the idea was to run at least a mile. Even though the distances were low it hurt! And even though I have several sets of running clothes, I seemed constantly to be washing them all.

Hope your HM goes well lego, tapering sounds good to me Wine.

Nice to see you Sirzy Smile glad you are feeling better.

My DS2 is a piper, I should get him to go halfway up a hill to do his practice Smile

3.9 miles last night, hoping to squeeze a short run in later this afternoon.

527.1

HalleLouja · 12/11/2015 13:51

Standing are you doing the Dirt Half?

I did 3 miles yesterday. 530.1.

No running for me today as my sports massage person aka club chairman said after my massage it would be best not to.

Suzanne I did 5k every day and was allowed to walk and cycle too. I was doing more than 5k some days and got injured so had to cycle and walk some days....

HalleLouja · 12/11/2015 13:53

Cinners lets just say I was glad when it was over.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/11/2015 13:56

You're not inspiring me HalleLouja Wink

HalleLouja · 12/11/2015 14:01

I am glad I did it, with hindsight.......

HalleLouja · 12/11/2015 14:02

Also it was nice as a group of us did it together and had a FB page to share the pain. Plus we were raising money for charity which kept me going.
