Great run delia Star

3.1 soggy muddy and windy Parkrun miles this morning

263.9

Deliaskis · 07/11/2015 13:42

It has indeed been soggy and muddy hasn't it? The start and finish area of my race was grass and looked rather more like we we doing a tough mudder than a 10k road race. I kind of didn't mind it though. Didn't overheat anyway!

I finished with an amazing 70yr old who only started running when she was 65. Hope I am still running at 70.

MrsHarveySpecter · 07/11/2015 15:19

Hi everyone. I've been lurking through October, so thought I'd jump on board for November if that's okay. I'm training for the VLM which I'm running for Scope as I have family ties with the charity. First marathon and although I've dabbled with running for many years I'm more of a gym bunny. Really enjoying running as part of my commute - any time not on the underground has to be a bonus. I have two kids under five and work full time so. I'm a bit of a glutton for punishment but find the running much more cathartic (so far) than the gym.

Adding 12 miles for this week so far.

Hi MrsH :)

23 from me (today and thursday)
288.9

familygermsareok · 07/11/2015 20:55

2.1 muddy and soggy miles this morning in the same park that our parkrun is in. I'm avoiding parkrun currently as it's a bit hilly and I'm only supposed to be running max of 2 flat miles slowly until Achilles has settled. DS1 wanted to do it though, so I took him down then set off on a different route once they'd started. I joined parkrun route for a bit halfway through then veered off again and got to the finish just as all the fast runners were coming in. I'm sure some folk wondered if I was cheating! I did resist the temptation to go through the finishers tunnel, it would have been a very unbelievable impressive PB! Grin

Sorry if I put you on the spot suzanne, I just remembered your posts often have a good handle on the physiology of it all.

Great run Delia, well done Smile

Welcome MrsH . Good luck with your marathon training Smile

FiftyNineOhEight · 07/11/2015 23:56

3.1 parkrun miles form me today.

Welcome MrsH

Well done Delia

I don't think I could have gone to my parkrun park and not parkrun/parkran family well done for avoiding the temptation Grin

Jolly wet here too - turns out my jacket is not waterproof Grin

KeyserSophie · 08/11/2015 08:30

welcome harvey and sorry to hear about you and DP stilllearnin. Well done on your race delia.

Adding 15 from my race this morning. Didn't go very well, mainly I think to not being properly recovered from last week's 70k, plus I went out too fast and it was hot, and it was mixed terrain so too many young road runners, damn them Grin. Placed 10th out of 250, so not a disaster but should have done better given the competition. Not racing again until mid-December and looking forward to just getting in a bit of a training routine, both in terms of running and the gym

emummy · 08/11/2015 11:06

Congrats on your race keyser, sorry it didn't go as well as you hoped, but 10th is still pretty good I think!
Pleasant 8 miles with the dog through the woods this morning, going to take it easy next week as the night race is on Saturday. Looking forward to it, and also to being done with race training this year!
317.1 with my miles and keyser's

cinnamongreyhound · 08/11/2015 11:58

So sorry to hear your news stilllearnin, if you manage to find the time running may help with the stress. Ive found I couldn't run alone when I'm having a difficult time or I just cry but with company it helps.

Wow purpletoes!!! Ds1 was very lazy, crawled a week before he was one and walked at 16months, ds2 bum shuffled at 8 months but was walking by 10. Interested to see what ds3 does Smile

Fab pb Deliaskis!!!

Hi MrsHarveySpecter!

Fantastic self control famikygermsareok! Well done on sticking to your plan, hope you're healing well.

You're disappointed with 10th KeyserSophie?!? I can never hope to be hat good, well done and sorry you're disappointed!

A slowish parkrun, there and back and a long run (well not so long, only 6 miles at the moment) from me this weekend. I've now run 4 days in a row and my legs feel it! 327.4

MrsHarveySpecter · 08/11/2015 14:04

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Some really inspiring stories and support on this thread.

Adding a plodding 6.2. Felt very slow and same in on the 60 minute mark. Not thrilled with that! Ah well, DH has a roast on and the kids are having 'quiet time' so I will enjoy a nice bath and a cosy autumn afternoon in the knowledge that at least I ran 10km today!!

333.6

MyBlackCat · 08/11/2015 16:30

8.2 off-road wet and muddy miles from me. Never intended to go that far but I missed a public footpath sign Grin I'm really enjoying the off road country runs so far - who knew how nice fields can be. Also only met one cow today Shock

341.8

MyBlackCat · 08/11/2015 16:31

Good run mrsH 6.2 miles in 60 minutes is not plodding to me Smile

suzannecaravaggio · 08/11/2015 16:45

MrsH the benefits of running are myriad and you dont need to run fast to get them:o

if anything faster running increases the impact forces and the chances of injury
if you want to be running at 70+ (as per a pp) then tailoring your running schedule to minimize injury is crucial!

(Gym day for me so no running)

Anglaise1 · 08/11/2015 17:34

Mrs H welcome to the thread. Don't be despondent, for a training run 60mins is usually what I do (and my running club friends) for 10k, around 10kph. Have you done a 10k race or HM yet? Your racing speed will be much faster, I run a 10k in 13kph but never train for an hour at that speed.
Stilllearnin so sorry to hear about your break-up. I hope the DC are a little more sympathetic soon, it must be really hard for you after 16 years Flowers
Well done to all the weekend runners, congrats on your 10th place Keyser and enjoy your break from racing for a while, you deserve it!
18 miles from me over the last 2 days, no running today as our club was hosting the trail race and I had to be marshall and watch all the other runners. It was really hard not to be participating. There was a nordic walking race over the same 24km course, it's surprising how fast some of the walkers go, around 7kph Shock
2 runners ran with their dogs even though it wasn't a canicross.

Going to do a little 13km trail race on Wednesday 11th Nov to make up for not racing today (its a bank holiday here).

Keyser 10th is amazing - remember there were 240 runners behind you, not 9 in front of you!

MrsH my name is my recently earned 10K PB - so an hour isn't plodding at all Grin

I agree with cinnamon about the stress-busting benefits of running. Sorry to hear about your split still.

I went out as it was getting dark this afternoon, so had to stick to well-lit streets. I ran up (and down) the biggest hill in my town as part of my 6.5 miles, in preparation for my hilly HM next month.

366.3

MrsHarveySpecter · 08/11/2015 19:30

Thanks all! I need to stop comparing my 36yo legs to my 26yo legs which tool on a 10km with next to no training and was around 55mins. Ten years later and a lot fitter it's ever so slightly harder Grin

keyser amazing and inspiring tenth place. Wow.

Definitely agree with the stress busting benefits. Much better for me than other types of exercise - including stress reducing ones like yoga where my mind wonders. I run listening to audiobooks so just focus on the road and the story.

Enjoy what's left of the weekend everybody.

McPie · 08/11/2015 21:31

5.9 miles for me yesterday and nothing for today, first Sunday I have missed since the start of August Sad. Lunch out with the kids for their birthday and it was hammering down by the time we got home so decided not to head out.
I might head out tomorrow depending on how strong the wind is as we have a yellow warning until 1pm so I may be able to squeeze a run in before pick up time.
372.2

Purpletoes · 08/11/2015 22:41

3.7 from me a nice little jog around with one of my oldest friends who was down for the weekend. We did have to stopped 2/3 way through as we ran into the remembrance parade making their way to the 11o clock service but did make it home in time for the silence.
375.9

KeyserSophie · 09/11/2015 01:05

Thanks guys, and actually, having slept on it I realise I was being a bit of a sulky stropper yesterday. Last season I'd have been delighted with 10th and in fact it's the first time I've been in top 10 over that distance, so I feel this is what Lenin famously referred to as a "crisis of rising expectations". I think I was more cross with myself for not prepping well (champagne the night before and jalapenos for dinner- who does that???????) and being sloppy on pre-race hydration and fuelling.

FlukeSkyeRunner · 09/11/2015 09:26

Ooops, I appeared to have neglected this thread for a while and didn't add my miles to the October total, not a massive mileage for me, but 29.8 miles brings it up to:

1579.56 for October

FlukeSkyeRunner · 09/11/2015 09:27

...and 3.5 miles only in November due to a holiday... Some of my October runs were on the beach on holiday, which was fantastic! So much better than my usual urban runs.

379.4

runtothehills · 09/11/2015 09:40

Keyser an excellent result. Champagne as a pre-race drink does sound rather nice Grin

Stilllearnin sorry to hear about your separation, running does help with destressing, but it can be finding the motivation and time to fit it in with everything else that is going on Flowers

Anglaise I find marshalling interesting as you see a race from a different perspective, but you can feel a bit left out when you see everyone else with their post race high!

Welcome MrsHarvey

Adding 16 from 3 runs. 3 mile club handicap race up local hill in the dark, very foggy and muddy. 7 miles up hill behind house, again foggy and muddy, and 6 miles yesterday, no fog but even more mud!! Bit of a recurring theme, the joy of autumn running.

395.4

KeyserSophie · 09/11/2015 13:23

Back with a quick 5 mile evening run to blow the cobwebs off. Makes 400.4

Anglaise1 · 09/11/2015 17:26

Runtothehills yes you are right, it was more the after race high I was jealous of especially as I would probably have been in the top 3 women knowing the other female competitors who were racing. I was marshalling on the 24km race at around the 14km mark, it was damp and chilly and I didn't feel that jealous until I saw all the runners hobble around after the race.
8.2 dog running miles, glorious autumn sunshine and 18°C Shock
