5km on the treadmill at the gym yesterday - weather was a bit crazy early on so took the dry option! 222.57

lastqueenofscotland · 06/09/2015 09:35

Was going to go for 2/3 miles but could hardly sleep last night and feel poop. So drawing a line through it. No point having two crap runs in a row. Will get out there again tomorrow.

RedLentil · 06/09/2015 12:11

Hope it's ok to join in ...

5.5 miles from me on a glorious West Cork morning.

SocksRock - I had to start again from scratch after my running was stalled by virtually zero iron and a subsequent coeliac diagnosis.

I had to take over a year off and start c25k again, but I'm planning on running 10k non-stop for the first time on the anniversary of my biopsy this Friday, and I found the muscle memory and breathing techniques made the second process much easier and more enjoyable.

227.97

RedLentil · 06/09/2015 12:13

Oops 228.07

KeyserSophie · 06/09/2015 12:35

Struggled first half on stone path-crafted steps Runtothehills- I hate racing up steps, especially when they're at the start of the race and the pack hasn't spread out. It's so hard to get in your own rhythm and it always feels very pressured- someone up close behind you but you're right behind the person in front.

redlentil welcome to our humble thread. Glad to hear you've recovered from your diagnosis. Is the low iron a symptom of coeliac, or were the two things unrelated?

lastqueen Probably a good idea. Have a rest, draw a line and hope you have a good run tomorrow.

cinnamongreyhound · 06/09/2015 14:01

Welcome RedLentil!

4 beautiful sunny canicross miles from me today. Only 3 humans and 6 dogs this morning but was very peaceful! 232.07

Anglaise1 · 06/09/2015 16:30

Congrats on your run runforthehills - it sounds like you finished comfortably which is important even if you think you could have been a little faster.
Welcome Redlentil
I have 15 miles to add from my last minute HM plus warm up, it was quite hilly for around here (260m ascent) I know, I know runforthehills, family, I was 6th out of 118 in my category and 33rd out of 626 women overall. Managed to do under the 1H45m qualifying cut off time for the French national half marathon finals which was nice although I'd never go and would be near last if I did.
Felt really strong so maybe the club coach was wrong and running everyday isn't that bad for you. The weather couldn't have been better, sunny, 18°C with a nice cooling breeze, but it wasn't a race to do a PB.
We also got nicest T shirt I've ever had in a race, so overall it was a good last minute decision to do it.

Weirdly in 5k race I did on Wednesday. I was 4th in my age category out of about 15. However, when I looked at the next age category up I would have been 14th out of a similar number. Am going to take 4th place though.

252.17 includes my parkrun total from yesterday plus tunning there and back.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/09/2015 20:45

Good evening runners Smile

12.1 to add from parkrun yesterday and a longer run today. I didn't eat or drink soon enough when I came in from today's run and ended up feeling awful. Perked up a bit now, but am heading off to be shortly - I have an early start tomorrow.

Welcome RedLentil. I am the daughter of and mother of coeliacs, but it has skipped me (so far - my Dad was in his 60s when diagnosed, and can trace the onset to his 50s).

Well done on your HM Anglaise, nothing like a good tee-shirt freebie Smile

emummy · 06/09/2015 20:57

Lovely sunny run along country lanes this morning.
Welcome socks and redlentil. Dd2 and I are coeliac too, we both feel a lot better since diagnosis.
Well done on your races this weekend runtothehills and Anglaise
Spent the day at athletics final with dd2 - 6 hours! Was good fun but we are knackered this evening.

emummy · 06/09/2015 21:00

Sorry, total is 272.27 - mine + OhOne's

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/09/2015 21:09

Thanks for adding emummy, I always forget!

familygermsareok · 06/09/2015 22:36

Well done runtothehills, that sounds like a lovely (and very challenging!) race with a great atmosphere.

And brilliant result Anglaise, especially with sore knees. Always good to get a useful freebie too. I think my fav one was a really nice mug which I use loads.

I know what you mean Halle, that happens to me all the time. Sadly I will be moving up a category next year!

Welcome RedLentil. Good luck with your 10k Smile

KeyserSophie · 07/09/2015 04:14

10.5 to add from this morning to make 282.77. Have gone from "wow I've improved so much, I'm definitely going to PB this race" to "I'm so rubbish. I'm doomed" in the space of 48 hrs. I suspect the answer is way too much wine between Saturday morning and sunday evening. Plus the weather has excelled itself, managing to combine really disgustingly humid with raining. Was meant to do 24k but cut out for17k. Sometimes it's just not worth forcing it. Kind of glad I did as it's thunder and lightening now.

well done Anglaise. Brilliant result. I have weather envy.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 07/09/2015 10:55

Not checked in for ages! Just going to repost the monthly totals with the amended August total (thanks Louey!) so it is easier for me to find when I scroll back (my posts show up in a lovely dog-sick colour)

January 2457.51
February 2085.5
March 1674.3
April 1534.65
May 1702.77
June 1560.1
July 1583.59
August 1483.93

I've got a total of 15.66 to add for this week's runs, including a 6km Tough Guy and Gal challenge through mud and a steep climb (with the assistance of ropes) up an evil hill. That one took 1 hour 20 mins but was heaps of fun (though I had to be pulled out of one of the mud pits by a marshal as it was just too sticky to move in).

It is getting hotter here now and I have bitten the bullet and bought some vests to run in. I also have a skort but not used it yet. Now may be the time!

298.43

familygermsareok · 07/09/2015 15:52

Sympathy Keyser, copious wine does not bode well for a good run IME . And I don't like the sound of the lightning and thunder at all. Maybe the Gods of Running just had it in for you this morning. I'm sure your next run will be better.

That sounds good fun Whowould, sounds like it lives up to its Tough name!

8.3 from me today. I got busy in the earlier morning and found myself running in the midday sun, not like me at all. And it is really hot here today, 20 degrees. I just took my time though and feasted on some wild blackberries on the way, it was lovely Smile

298.43 + 8.3 = 306.73

Anglaise1 · 07/09/2015 16:36

And it is really hot here today, 20 degrees Smile
Sounds like a lovely run, Family! The blackberries are over here now, have been for a couple of weeks!
Keyser we all have bad days and if you were dehydrated after drinking wine the night before, especially in the heat you have to endure, I'm amazed you managed to run at all.
For anyone who suffers from GI race day problems, I forgot to mention that before my HM I followed the doctor's orders and just ate pasta, ham and Gruyère cheese for 2 days, nothing else. I was supposed to do it for 3, but couldn't take it. I had a little tummy ache after the race, but nothing like the GI problems I've had in the past.
5.1 slow and stiff recuperation miles today.

familygermsareok · 07/09/2015 19:22

Blush I know, I know, but it's hot for meeee

I expect that will be the last time I see the sun for a while though, on recent weather patterns!
I do love the wild blackberries, I choose my routes at this time of year specifically to include the best spots. Ours are just coming out and should last for about a month.

That's fantastic that your GI problems are improved with the diet, Anglaise, well worth getting the specialist advice Smile Smile

runtothehills · 07/09/2015 21:11

Anglaise love the Drs diet recommendations, not sure you'd get specifics on the type of cheese in the UK Grin Well done on a fantastic HM result, especially as it was last minute!

Feel for you Keyser humidity is a killer, especially if you're already dehydrated from Wine

family I'm with you 20 is hot.

Did a gentle 4 miles today, my thighs are screaming from Saturday but a recovery run definitely helps even if it seems a mad idea.

Heading up Lochnagar with a friend tomorrow, second time in past 3 weeks, keep wondering if I'll meet a passing royal one of these days Smile.

lastqueenofscotland · 08/09/2015 10:35

Runtothehills I was up on Lochnagar a couple of weeks ago. Unforts with someone else's vile 14 year old who threw a glorified tantrum about doing something not sitting on her arse watching Netflix for half a day.
Grumble.

Anyway much better after my day off ran yesterday and this morning, have an interval session tonight so will add it all up after that.

lastqueenofscotland · 08/09/2015 10:37

Oh and camilla has nearly run me over before so you may find a passing royal!!

emummy · 08/09/2015 11:09

5 mile unreal session. Was a new one, involving hard running, easy running and brisk walking, which was very nice but felt a bit like cheating! Dog was happy though! She sabotaged one of the hard running sections by chasing a cat, nearly onto a road. Caught her in time, wasn't good for my nerves!
320.93 with the 4 from runtothehills

suzannefollowmyvan · 08/09/2015 15:59

24 miles from me, from today and sunday
344.93
I have 'pita' so running speed has dropped a tad, not sure what sparked it off Confused
2 steps forward, one step back, oh well c'est la vie

MyBlackCat · 08/09/2015 17:35

10.7 from me this afternoon - the longest I have run for about 3 years, don't think I'll be doing much over the next couple of days now though Grin

355.63

pinkoneblueone · 08/09/2015 18:43

Hello, I guess i am looking for advice. I am training for the Great South Run and the most i've ever ran before was 3 miles three times a week. I have been training for about 2 months so far and am up to running 6 miles three times a week and its exhausting as i do Karate once a week also. Am i doing anything wrong? Do any of you do this regularly? What do u guys recommend i do?
