mcpie your ex running buddy sounds awful. I quite often train with a woman who kicks my ass in races, but when we train together, we stick together. Otherwise, what's the point?
Black cat trail is harder because you constantly have to adjust your stride and balance. Hope the foot recovers soon. Generally, I find I get fewer "wear and tear" injuries vs. road, but more traumatic injuries (sprains etc).
suzanne There are just massively more men than women in the HK trail running scene. I'm not really sure why as the usual childcare restrictions don't apply. However, was v. happy to see 3 women in the top 10 in this race. Re. the DNF/ time outs, the checkpoint cut offs were quite aggressive which didn't accommodate hikers (most races do) as the final cut off was timed to allow everyone to get on the last ferry out (race is on an island). Also, I think some people probably just underestimated it or hadn't banked on it being so hot. I reckon a few also knew they were gonna DNF to get back for Halloween parties
so just figured they'd treat it as a training run and do the first 28k, or they were tired from a big race last weekend. I don't think you can conclude much on men vs women. The numbers aren't big enough and there are just so many factors at play.
cinnamon I was pretty much on the move constantly. My strava "moving time" record said 12:18, so basically I had 10 mins sitting in a stream and then 20 mins in the checkpoints, which included a 10-15 minute break to change shoes and shirt and eat some food half way.
anglaise I think I ran probably 30k, climbed 10k, and scrambled, jog/hiked the rest.
Planning a recovery run tomorrow- my first in November.
