Anglaise - very well done! Running in sand dunes is bloody hard. An ugly trophy is still a trophy. 'toute sèche' is what my DH thinks I am going to turn into if I keep doing marathons. There were several people from the 100 marathon club at Abingdon and they did kind of look like shrivelled prunes. I sort of see his point, but I am not going to be running as many marathons as that plus I like food too much
.
LastQueen - I would do the same as Keyser. My knee had been very niggly in the few weeks leading up to the marathon. I reasoned that the taper would give it some rest but I had no idea how it would be in the race. As it turned out, I didn't feel it at all. My back, on the other hand was sore. I know how frustrating it must be!
Keyser - fingers crossed the ankle holds out.
Emummy - do you run with a head torch when you go out that early, or is it light enough? There have been some amazing sunrises recently, it must be magical to be out there.
Halle - actually, it was damn near perfect marathon weather on Sunday. Sorry to hear about your clubmates - must be hard when you haven't trained in that temperature. PB dance?? If anything, it was a PB hobble. Thunder Run looks cool - are you doing that with your club?
Cinnamon - well done on the quicker 10k, even if it did feel harder. Did they give you a mini-mars bar? Meanies.
Suzanne - I did a combination of carb-loading and taking on fuel during the race. I think they both helped - the carb-loading gave me the energy from the start and then I had 4 gels during the race to boost my energy reserves. My faster mile was at mile 19 after I'd had a gel at mile 18. Plus I had jelly babies handed out by random locals and some lucozade at mile 14. So basically I was eating most of the way round
. I didn't do the low carb beforehand but I do at least a couple of runs a week first thing in the morning before I've eaten which apparently has the same effect (burning fat).
A slowish 3.1 on the treadmill from me, legs are pretty good considering.
