Sorry just reading back. Bloody Hell keyser Do you know my mum and dad do fell walking. They have seen very experienced walkers fall of the edge of a fell - and I don't mean anything scary like striding edge - just a fellside where they say to eat their lunch. Three of them got up to go, and one fell off. One of the others said 'he's gone' and he fell to his death. I really think it was irresponsible to carry on with that race. I feel a bit shocked.

KeyserSophie · 16/10/2015 08:29

I agree. HK is weird like that though. Sometimes I think it's very western in its safety norms, and other times it's just not- for example, not many people have cars so it's totally normal to take taxis everywhere and just put your toddler/baby on your lap. Everyone buys second hand car seats/ cots etc (didnt even realise this was a thing till MN).

I think the RD felt under pressure because he had to run the race as it was a Sky tour race, and if he missed Sunday he'd have had to run it on Monday when only about 25 people would have showed up as everyone else at work. He was getting tonnes of conflicting advice, loads of people on FB demanding refunds if he cancelled etc. But at the same time, you shouldnt be an RD if you cant make a clear headed judgement call in the interests of safety. He got off pretty lightly IMO.

Anyway, onwards and upwards!! Weather for tonight's race is beautiful, trails have dried out and I'm almost looking forward to it. See you all in 43km.

Loueytb3 · 16/10/2015 11:00

Keyser - I do love that you are almost looking forward to 43k Grin Hope it goes well! Friday night is an unusual time to do a race though, or perhaps not for HK.

Cinnamon - its my 2nd marathon, but oddly I'm more nervous than I was for the first. Good luck for the 10k on Sunday.

Still - it sounds like you've found your mojo again Smile

fiftynine - nice new shiny name. Next stop, fiftyeight Wink

Lastqueen - ouch ouch ouch. Hope you are ok??

Anglaise - is your windbreaker showerproof? I need a new running jacket - it's on my christmas list. Am prepared to pay a reasonable amount for a decent one as it will get lots of use. But it needs to be showerproof and have some reflective bits on it.

Custard - hope you are not going down with the lurgy. Very sensible decision to cut the run short.

Halle - its Abingdon. Little known unless you frequent the runnersworld forums but its flat and therefore has pb potential. Palma sounds lovely though, and I wouldn't be stressing about what to wear at least. Your new coach sounds great - is this through the running club?

Thank you for all the good luck wishes. I'm bricking it at the moment. I've woken up today with what feels like a strained muscle in my insole, have no idea where it came from. Am trying to carb load but although it seems like fun when you are thinking about doing it, actually doing it is a different matter. Been to my local running shop this morning to pick up some more gels and had a great chat with the owner who has nearly convinced me to buy some trail shoes as I've doing so much trail running recently. For the rest of the morning, I'm going to sit on the sofa and do not much apart from eat and watch telly....

Loueytb3 · 16/10/2015 11:39

Forgot to add in yesterday's 4.66 miles, with the bonus that I managed to stay upright on Westminster Bridge Grin

676.35

cinnamongreyhound · 16/10/2015 11:47

Lovely 4 miles this morning! 675.61

cinnamongreyhound · 16/10/2015 11:48

Bleurgh, though I'd refreshed sorry 680.35

lastqueenofscotland · 16/10/2015 12:05

Eventful few days for us!

I'm ok my knee is lovely and swollen though. Sob!

HalleLouja · 16/10/2015 13:03

Louey I have heard of Abingdon Marathon... Are any local Juners coming to cheer you on? You will be fine. Enjoy relaxing. If it helps DD isn't sleeping all that well either. Flipping 4 year olds. New coach does sessions for RunFitUK and seems really good.

Sirzy · 16/10/2015 15:22

I need to get back into this thread, got two 10ks booked for next year so need to focus. First I need to get well though but in the meantime I need new runnjng tights - which do everyone reccomend? I had some ascis ones which were ok but I am sure I can get comfier!

Anglaise1 · 16/10/2015 15:23

Cinnamon good luck with your 10k race on Sunday, I suppose that will be the first since you had DS3? Flowers
Keyser Good luck with your 43km trail race, fingers crossed the conditions are good with no storms! Makes my 30km coastal trail race on Sunday afternoon seem like a walk in the park Grin
Louey I find carb loading hard too, especially because I don't really enjoy pasta a lot. At least not for every meal for 3 days before a big race.
It will be worth it for your race, though and much better for you than gels
My jacket is only waterproof for about an hour, so not what you are after. I already have a couple of waterproof ones which is enough for me as it doesn't rain that much here in East Brittany. I wanted something light, windproof, warm and breathable and my Odlo one fits the bill, but it isn't something for long wet runs!
11.9 miles today, probably shouldn't have ran as much but then my 30km race isn't until Sunday afternoon.
692.25

On and has anyone done the mad dog in southport?

runtothehills · 16/10/2015 19:59

Welcome back Sirzy

Keyser glad to hear you're ok, wise decision not to go for it. Difficult when you've built up to something for so long. Hope this evening has gone well.

Louey I love risottos, good for carb loading Wink Good Luck Star

Good new name fiftynine !!!

I run in an OMM Kamleika jacket, expensive but worth it. Have a Inov8 windproof as well, sometimes wear both if wild on the tops.

7 miles today up hill behind hoose! Off to west coast (Torridon) with my sis and girls next week, hopefully get a couple of wee runs in.

699.25

cinnamongreyhound · 16/10/2015 22:12

Good to see you Sirzy!

At least you know what you're letting yourself in for loueytb3!!

It's my second Anglaise1, I did a road 10k in August. This is a tiny race all off road at a local rspb reserve. I did it last year 16wks pregnant with a horrible cold and it's the only race I've ever walked in so I'm determined to beat my time. In my mind it was a tough course but perhaps it was just a bad day. Took me 1:04 last year so my worst 10k ever (pb for road 10k is 54:56).

FiftyNineOhEight · 16/10/2015 23:05

keyser I was living in New irk when the marathon was cancelled after super-storm Sandy. The poor CEO of NYRR couldn't do right for doing wrong. At first they said they would go ahead with it, then they backtracked. People had come from all over the world and were really angry, even though there was massive devastation in Staten Island (where the marathon starts) and people had lost their lives. I get that it is frustrating when you have trained for months for an event, but safety/the bogged picture have to come first.

hope your 10K goes well cinnamon and your marathon louey - do PM me if you ever want an outing over Westminster Bridge BTW.

Welcome back Sirzy. I have some Asics tights, and 2 pairs of Nike capris. I've had them for ages and although quite expensive in terms of pay per wear they have been brilliant.

custardcreamdreams · 16/10/2015 23:13

Hope it's going well Keyser.

Are you aiming for any particular time Louey? Good luck to you and cinnamon too for Sunday.

Anyone use a base layer t-shirt? Thinking ahead now it's starting to get a bit colder. Do have one but it's a cheapie I picked up and makes me feel uncomfortably sweaty after a few minutes. I do sweat a lot Blush

4, first time out in the long tights since summer 703.25

custardcreamdreams · 16/10/2015 23:15

Oh and my Nike tights are my favourites too. Have asics and they rub somewhere rather uncomfortable. The Nike ones are lovely and soft and warm but not too warm.

stilllearnin · 17/10/2015 08:25

Just 2.5 on the spur of the moment from me. So 705.75

Loving the running gear chat. Tempting!

emummy · 17/10/2015 11:52

Longest ever run - 15 miles today! Feeling very chuffed, but also knackered, it was hard work. It did feel quite a slog so I didn't enjoy it particularly, although there were some lovely views to keep me going. 590m of climb in total. Do feel I can cope with next month's trail race now and have a rough idea of time as today took me 3hrs exactly. It was 0 degrees at the start and I got madly scratched by heather, so now snuggled up on the sofa recovering!
Good luck to those racing this weekend, from park run to 43k!

emummy · 17/10/2015 11:53

Oops, total 720.75

cinnamongreyhound · 17/10/2015 15:20

3.6 from me as I walked home from parkrun today so slightly shorter 724.35

custardcreamdreams · 17/10/2015 21:10

Well done emummy

9 from me 733.35. Had hydrocortisone injection on a mortons neuroma, some sort of nerve thing, in my foot earlier in the year and I suspect it's coming back. Toe was going numb and a bit painful. Drat!

KeyserSophie · 18/10/2015 00:28

26.2 from me to make 756.55. Race went really well although the weather was warmer than I would have ideally liked, which led to lots of DNFs due to vomiting/dehydration/cramping after a ridiculously fast start. I felt quite strong throughout and managed to take 37 mins off my 2014 time to finish in 6:14, placing 6th woman and 32nd overall in a strong field, so very happy. Realised I do need to do more long runs as on the big 900m climb at 34km the issue was legs, not lungs, and it wasn't thigh burn so much as just tiredness (possibly a fuelling issue as well as I did struggle to eat much). I also went over on my left ankle quite badly about 26k in so that made some of the technical descents a bit ouchy. Now it's ballooned so not sure I'll be running much in the next week.

Good luck everyone racing today. Congrats on your long run Emummy.

I also like Nike tights. Skins are good if you like compression ones.

emummy · 18/10/2015 08:43

Well done keyser, great result! Hope the ankle isn't too bad, a week's rest would probably be a good thing there.

lastqueenofscotland · 18/10/2015 13:03

8.55 from me. Knee niggled a bit after Thursdays fall but nothing the promise of a pub lunch couldn't get me through!

Well done keyser that sounds like hard work!

765.1

stilllearnin · 18/10/2015 13:52

Another 2.5 from me this morning - piddly yes but I am converted to getting up and getting out in the first light. The beer I had last night disagreed!

emummy that's great - I just cannot get my head into double figures miles wise. How are you today?

Keyser 37 minutes in one year - that's fantastic!

Laughing at my piddly miles but happy just to be here! 767.6
