Welcome wrongornot and good luck with the race. Which one is it?

custardcreamdreams · 28/09/2015 09:25

Well done dingle, how'd the feet hold up?

I definitely get an endorphin buzz at times. It's this intense 'I can do anything' feeling of bliss or happiness for a few hours. Kind of reminds me of childbirth, which also releases loads of endorphins. Tough at the time but after you immediately forget about that and your body feels this sense of completion and euphoria.

I love it Grin

suzannecaravan · 28/09/2015 09:35

Seems to be related to the intensity of exertion and the length of time, I seem to need at least an hour, 2 hours is better though. ?

well done Dingle :o

Naicecuppatea · 28/09/2015 09:57

I haven't posted much on this thread recently, sorry. I did a local 10k 2 weekends ago which was my first race, absolutely fantastic atmosphere and very scenic route that I run anyway, so it helped as I knew where the uphill bits were. I was so happy to get a PB by around 5 minutes! I've now decided to enter for a HM next year Grin.

I was interested in reading about the endorphins. I get them both when running and afterwards. During running, they normally come in when I have been going for 20 minutes or so, and got over the initial struggle of starting, when I have settled into my pace and rhythm. After the run, the endorphins are still there, and I feel relaxed and content when my legs are pleasantly aching/tired. This lasts the rest of the day.

KeyserSophie · 28/09/2015 13:11

suzanne Not really. I mean, I feel satisfied/content that I've done my run but I wouldn't say I feel peaceful or relaxed, or maybe I'm just expecting too much. Custard I hated childbirth as well so maybe that explains it- lol.

Well done dingle. Glad you made it round.

Wrongornot · 28/09/2015 14:24

Well done Dingle - couldn't imagine covering that distance - yet!

Love the buzz that running gives, thinking about how happy I will be when I come back in the door is a great incentive to get out the door in the first place!

My HM is in Glasgow, Great Scottish Run weekend - DD (5) is doing the kids mile on Saturday - she is so excited. Hopefully get her hooked early on so she doesn't spend her school years dreading any physical education as I did!

I am excited and terrified in equal measures - my longest run to date was 20km last weekend so hopefully I have done enough - what would you all suggest doing running wise in the week leading up to HM distance?

cinnamongreyhound · 28/09/2015 14:48

Welcome wrongornot!

Well done Dingle and naicecuppatea!

How did you get on OhOneOhTwoOhThree?

suzannecaravan · 28/09/2015 15:44

previous 1322.33
from me today 10.4
new total 1332.73

Hi Wrongor :)
I have no idea about race tapering but there are lots of racers on here who will help you

Wot, no buzz, no euphoria at all Keyser :(
not even after a race?

emummy · 28/09/2015 15:52

wrongornot my last hm was on a Saturday. I did 30 mins steady run on Tuesday and 20 mins on Thursday and that was all

standingonlego · 28/09/2015 16:32

I am on a good roll and seem to have inadvertently signed up for a HM and after a trip to sweatshop today seem to have bought 2 new pairs of trainers.

I have been wearing saucony Omnis for years in their various versions but have felt over corrected recently....gait analysis showed whilst not neutral yet, I need a mid rather than strong correction. So I have some lovely purple saucony hurricanes...anyone else use them?

And after a ill fated washing machine incident I desperately needed new trail shoes so a pair of Brooke's cascadia 10s came home too...

Now to hide them from DH WinkBlush

custardcreamdreams · 28/09/2015 16:49

wrongornot. Mine was last Sunday and I did almost exactly the same as emummy. 30 minutes on the Tuesday and 22minutes on the Thursday. Was out walking miles on the Friday as there was an event on in town but took it very easy on the Saturday.

No, I'm saucony omnis myself now standingonlego after wearing nothing but Brookes gts for years - hate the newest version of the gts. Enjoy your new trainers, when's the hm?

standingonlego · 28/09/2015 17:58

Thanks custard' hope the omnis are good for you! they have been ace for years for me. HM is 14th November, it is a trail one. However toying with idea of Peterborough HM next weekend....feeling need to do stuff!

On which point I have not logged any September miles, had a quick tally up and have 54.77m to add in taking us to

1387.5

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 28/09/2015 19:28

Hello runners Smile

3.1 parkrun miles which were a mixture of run/walk because I was the tail runner, followed by 13.3 really tough HM miles yesterday (the course was measuring long according to my garmin from mile 1). The course was more undulating than steep, but it really took its toll - I was struggling by the end. But I beat quite a few of the boys from my son's 6th form, so was happy with that Grin and one of the teachers had mars bars at the finish so I was even happier Grin

I felt fine today until I was biking home this evening Grin. Recovery run tomorrow.

1403.9 (?)

familygermsareok · 28/09/2015 20:58

Hi everyone, I've not been on for a while, loads to catch up on and lots of fantastic running going on Smile.
Congrats on PBs emummy, lastqueen , runtothehills and naicecuppa and on fab 1st place Anglaise ( the hornets would have finished me, I am terrified enough of wasps Shock )
And well done WhoWould, Dingle and OhOne, those all sound like hard going!
I've got 17 miles to add from 3 runs last week but my Achilles has flared up big time again so I think I'm going to have to totally rest it for a while. Am seeing physio on Fri so will see what they say. Missing my endorphins already Sad
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend.

1403.9 + 17 = 1420.9

cinnamongreyhound · 28/09/2015 21:14

Well done for finishing then OhOneOhTwoOhThree!

4 miles with the canicross club from me, got back feeling great and then had a bit of a meltdown as dh had changed ds2 out of his dirty uniform into clean clothes which he had also made dirty Blush completely lost it with him (dh) and then had to apologise as I totally overreacted. Bleurgh, there goes my post run high! 1424.9

emummy · 29/09/2015 11:00

Just 2.6 today up a short steep hill then through woods. Unexpectedly warm and sunny! Today's run confirmed how bad I am at going up steep hills, lots of practice needed! Still, I take comfort from the fact that even the dog, who usually sprints ahead, was knackered!
1427.5

Dingle · 29/09/2015 12:09

Thank you ladies, I feel a bit of a fraud being here as I only walked.

My feet were really not too bad, I felt some tenderness after about 5-6 miles so I put a compeed plaster on the sore area and also put one of my spare 1000 mile socks over the top, giving me extra cushioning. Later on in the walk I had to do the same with the other foot.

All in all I don't feel too bad considering what my poor, unprepared body has been put through. Must admit I do feel shattered today, it's more the tiredness that has hit rather the the aches and pains but then again, I am taking a few pain killers twice a day. Today I also seem to have a huge appetite!!!!

At one of the pit stops overheard a lady saying that it's best to wear walking boots rather than trainers for longer distances, I suppose it makes sense to give cushioning and support when speed is not so much of an issue.(???)

HalleLouja · 29/09/2015 12:19

6 miles from Sunday to add here. 1433.5.

custardcreamdreams · 29/09/2015 16:27

Good job dingle, glad your feet held up to it. That makes sense about the walking boots, suppose it gives more support around the ankles and that.

7 to add. Was so good getting out for longer than half an hour, although I don't know what on earth is happening with our weather. It was roasting, better days than we had during the summer.

1440.5

suzannecaravan · 29/09/2015 16:37

4 miles from me
1444.05

yes very warm still Custard!

cinnamongreyhound · 29/09/2015 17:14

Gorgeous day here too but not running until 6.30 so head torches will be out Sad

Wrongornot · 29/09/2015 18:57

Could you recommend a head torch Cinnamon?

I live in the middle of no where, country lanes and no street lights. I only ran at weekends last winter but would love to get out before or afterwork if possible?

runtothehills · 29/09/2015 19:05

Welcome wrongnot hoping the weather is a bit cooler for the Scottish HM this weekend for you!

Dingle for walking the streets of London I don't think there is a difference between trainers and walking boots, you just need good cushioning because you're on your feet a long time, well done BTW.

Great shopping Lego Smile

15 to add from me. 10 yesterday late afternoon run up in local hills, stunning light/sunset. 5 today with friend, did it before it got too hot thank goodness! DH away next few days so not going to be able to get out again this week, but have last of my planned hill races on Sunday, another local one so fingers crossed another PB Smile

1459.05

MyBlackCat · 29/09/2015 20:19

3.5 mile trail run - where I work has some marked trails, never ran them before, did the 5km loop, clearly not measured accurately! Was much more fun than treadmill intervals Grin

1462.55

Anglaise1 · 29/09/2015 20:31

Congrats on your HM Ohoneohtwo you finished and before some of the boys. Good for you! I hope your recovery run went well.
Dingle well done for your walk. I agree, for a walk I'm much more comfortable in boots rather than trainers. No idea why, maybe you can wear thicker socks and blisters are less likely?
FamilySad so sorry about your achilles, I hope your physio has good news on Friday.
Suzanne another interval session Wink do you feel super speedy now?
I didn't run yesterday for the first day in ages after Sunday's excessive training following the race. My coach is no longer speaking to me but everyone else in the club think it is funny and not to worry so that's OK. I'll just carry on doing my own thing. Which was 13 miles today, dog running and intervals with the club tonight.
