This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

As I was saying this is my 3rd park run, and I love it, the atmosphere is great, I can't seem to get the motivation to run on my own, I haven't ran in 20 years since I ran long distance for School. I'm running and.walking my way round, my youngest dc has joined me for the last 2 runs he is not very fit at the moment, so it's not to bad doing it together, but I have quite a long natural stride and am finding having to shorten it and jog more for him, but my knee doesn't like jogging and on the last k today started to really hurt and cease up. Afterwards I could hardly walk and was worried about driving home. Luckily once in the car the driving position was ok for it.

My knee has ached after in the afternoons and next day after the other runs.

What's the best solution for my knee? Are knee supports any good and are some better then others?

Dc and me are trying to crack the 40min target we got 43 today which was 2 better the last week Smile

Sorelip · 12/09/2015 12:41

Hi all. I did my first ever parkrun today, at Burgess Park, and loved it! It was so much fun, and I'm already thinking about who I can get to have the kids next Saturday morning so I can go again.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/09/2015 16:01

Welcome TwatByName and Sorelip, well done on your parkruns.

Was drizzly here, I did ok and one of our regulars did his 100th parkrun, aged 8!!

ThursdayLastWeek · 12/09/2015 17:21

Oft Twat that sounds really painful! I'm not sure I have any helpful advice other than rest it this week and maybe see a doctor? I'm so glad you enjoyed your parkrun.

Hello sorelip too!

The weather was lovely for 9am, and all my parkrun friends were gratifyingly excited for the MiniThurs news Smile
It was slippy underfoot with lots of fallen leaves - i took it easy and was able to run the whole thing.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 12/09/2015 17:34

Hello parkrunners Smile, and welcome to newcomers to the thread and first timers Grin

good progress, but sorry to hear about your knee TBN, I don't have any advice except to rest it. Sorelip one of my colleagues runs at Burgess Park and tells me it's a nice one.

Well done cinners, I thought of you this morning as they were handing out flyer for the Grunty Fen HM.

Was it a relief to finally tell your friends your news Thursday Smile?

I had a smashing time at Cambridge, there was a 30 minute pacer and I thought I'd try to stay with him as long as I could - and ended up staying with him all the way and finishing comfortably under 30 mins. I was absolutely not expecting that, after a really long week at work and a trip to the pub last night, as well as the after effects of a yoga class yesterday Grin. Still nowhere near my ancient 27-odd PB, but faster than I have been for a while.

Yes a massive relief - esp as it's v hard to hide massive bosom and thickening waistline in lycra!

Well done on your sort-of-pb Ohone Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 12/09/2015 18:25

Well done OhOneOhTwoOhThree! Isn't grunty fen tomorrow?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 12/09/2015 18:30

Thank you Thursday, and yes Cinnamon - no idea why they were handing out the leaflets today!

Completed the set of 21 NI parkruns (at time of writing) in my home town, Derry City

By my reckoning, I'm the first female to do this!

Welcome newcomers, you can see how addictive this gets!

ThursdayLastWeek · 12/09/2015 19:23

Well done Melanie!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 12/09/2015 19:29

Wow Melanie well done!

Congratulations Melanie, that's a huge achievement. And lovely to finish in your home town.

Well done ohone, even better for not expecting it.

Hello and welcome Sorelip. It's definitely addictive.

I dont know much about knees TBN but it does sound painful. How old is your DC? While it's good having the kids with you it can have its challenges. I was away last week so DD ran with DH and DS and got under thirty. Which I can only dream of. Yesterday she was lagging behind a lot, so I kept twisting to check on her and I know it throws my hip a bit. We'd started well too, kept up with the male contingent for at least 200 m Grin.

I'd have loved a bit of drizzle cinnamon. It stopped raining before the start then got humid. Not my ideal conditions!

I'll bow down in absolute respect Thursday, even up that never ending hill before the cow field?!

TwatByName · 13/09/2015 09:01

Hello thanks everyone for the warm welcome, it's great to see everybodys achievements, And Congratulations Thursdays

Well I rested my knee all day, and had some ice packs on, by evening I had some pain free movement this morning I can walk with only dull ache at points Smile. I've had a look online, and it looks like I will need to see a physio, to find out which muscles further up my leg need strengthening, also think the shortened stride jogging is the main culprit.
I'm absolutely gutted as probably won't be-able to run next week , Sad my park run is such a lovely route too, I was so enjoying getting out on a Saturday morning,

chutneypig ds is 10 ,and determined to run with me, but needs encouraging when running, I've suggested the junior 2 k, but no he wants to do this one, so I'm kind of stuck with the jogging, and I obviously don't have the right muscle balance for jogging, all my huge fat flabby bits bouncing up and down to hard

chutneypig · 13/09/2015 10:47

Sounds like it's a good plan to see a physio. Hopefully missing a week will pay off in the long run especially if DS is keen.

We're going to try alternating with having the children along to give both DH and I the chance the run alone every few weeks. DS and DH are pretty well matched for pace but theyd both like to see what they can do alone. DS is counting the days until he's 11 Grin. I do find I miss not having them with me though. DS always makes me run faster.

My two often do both the 5k and 2k, we spend a lot of time at the park! They're very keen on the 5k but we have said we need some time for us too.

HalleLouja · 13/09/2015 10:51

Welcome sorelip and twat. It all gets a bit addictive.

Well done Ohone.

Thursday good news on the scan. You can let it all hang out now. Grin

Number 46 completed in SA yesterday. I am still thinking of doing my 50th at sunny Luton. That is unless people are looking at going to Bushy. Might not be until the 17th or 24th October as I am doing either Herts 10k or Hatfield House one.

chutneypig · 13/09/2015 15:54

It must be great fun plotting out the next few runs Halle.

I've just registered for my first 10k next month. Gulp. Put my best guess at seventy minutes. That may be optimistic! I'm determined to do it, even if I am right at the back.

On a less stressful note, I just ordered DS 10th run T shirt. Guess they've been shifting through the backlog as its not that long ago.

Blatherskite · 14/09/2015 16:18

Aargh! ROCKSOLID this weekend #panic #panic #panic

chutneypig · 14/09/2015 18:19

That looks exciting blathers!!! Which distance are you doing?

Blatherskite · 15/09/2015 16:22

None of them Sad

I was all signed up to run the 10k using the free place they gave me last year for volunteering.....

....then they went and gave me a job organising the ROCKSOLID STARS kids race Shock

I'm loving it but am a little bit nervous about my first event. I've spent 3 hours today setting up obstacles in the woods. I'm actually rather jealous as it looks brilliant fun.

chutneypig · 15/09/2015 19:26

I hadn't seen the kids race when I lookd first. Sounds fabulous and I'm sure there'll be some very happy kids for all your hard work. I must look into those sorts of races more, my two would love it.

Blatherskite · 15/09/2015 19:44

I hope so! Apparently the main complaint last year was that there wasn't enough mud :) I'm hoping the rain we've had for the past couple of days sticks around for a bit longer as it's been really dry here recently and we could really do with getting everything nice and soaked through.

There are going to be more kids events next year (assuming I can make them happen!!) including some stand alone events just for kids as well as the events that are part of the adults events.

If anyone fancies liking the ROCKSOLID STARS facebook page then I'd be very grateful and will keep you up to date on all of the new developments [cheeky grin]

chutneypig · 15/09/2015 20:31

I couldn't see a like button on the FB page but I did show the spawn the YouTube video. DD thought it looked fantastic.

Blatherskite · 15/09/2015 21:57

It'll be on the right, at the bottom of the cover photo.

Glad she liked it chutneypig

MelanieCheeks · 15/09/2015 23:27

Ooooh oooh 3 bits of parkrun news today!

  1. Chris Evans this morning. Find listen again and go to about 2.20 in. Waterworks, which I've done, gets a mention!
  1. Parkrun Facebook page and their weekly showcase-I'm in there!
  1. Next NI one starts on 10th October.....which is when I've promised to run my 100th at my home event. So I'll miss an inaugural, but I'll make sure I do it the following week.
cinnamongreyhound · 17/09/2015 22:21

Our parkrun is in the showcase, family of 5 who have all got their 50 shirts and three have done 100 runs including their 8 year old Smile
