This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

Tonbridge, no idea where that is Blush

Blatherskite · 23/01/2016 17:57

Made it to parkrun this week! Got up at 6 to go to Thetford #likeyoudo

feetheart · 23/01/2016 19:32

blathers - and did you sing? :o

Nice jog round with various people including a new runner who's friends had persuaded her to come then cried off with hangovers. She was about to give up so I talked at her for over a lap and got her to the finish :o
So good to be back running and didn't feel I had to walk once. I might ache tomorrow though.
We had a record attendance too and broke through the magic 200 barrier with 212 runners and there was cake in the cafe :)

Blatherskite · 23/01/2016 20:44

I did sing! Grin

No bugger turned up to give me my 30 seconds of fame though Sad

I helped a friend with a sore leg get round. Made her feel better as she wasn't alone on an unfamiliar course and I got to take it easy while still getting the miles in. Coming back slowly but surely.

Blatherskite · 23/01/2016 20:44

Just charging everything ready to RD juniors tomorrow now

steppemum · 23/01/2016 21:13

Tonbridge is just next door to Tunbridge Wells. In Kent. My Brother and SIL live there.

What the link with Thetford and song?

Lots of new runners at ours this week, not so obvious from the total, but lots and lots in the 35-40 zone. Made me feel less slow!

Blatherskite · 23/01/2016 21:46

For some reason that I never quite got to the bottom of, the One Show were due to be coming to Theford parkrun to film everyone singing the theme tune to Dad's Army. There were even a couple of blokes there in the old fashioned uniform.

We sang but the One Show went somewhere else apparently.

Now you know as much as me #clearasmud

cinnamongreyhound · 23/01/2016 22:16

I can't believe you went to Thetford blatherskite!!!!! You must have passed my lovely parkrun to do so Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 23/01/2016 22:19

Dads army has links to Thetford, there's actually a statue of captain mainwaring in the town centre. I'm not sure exactly of why but I assume it was filmed there?

MelanieCheeks · 23/01/2016 22:25

There were certainly Dads Army photos on the parkrun Facebook page.

My new washing machine arrived at 10! (If it had been 11 I'd have been fuming and muttering all day that i COULD have gone.) It is a super sleek grey machine that looks straight out of a sci-fi movie. It'll take me a while to get to know all its little ways, but it's so quiet!

Had brunch with some running chums, who persuaded me to sign up to a Resolution run at the end of Feb.

Oh, and finished my Dick Dastardly hat while I was waiting for the washing machine van Smile

Blatherskite · 23/01/2016 22:34

We drove very close cinnamon. I wasn't organising the trip though so had no say.

We might do the new one at March next week.

FiftyNineOhEight · 23/01/2016 22:43

cinners - I think Dad's Army was filmed in Thetford and around there.

Melanie I have even greater kitchen appliance envy now than I had before Grin

feet great to hear that you are up and running again. But how mean of the so-called friends to bail out!

I had a pretty speedy run today, but added over a minute to my time because I had to duck into the loo on the first lap Smile.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/01/2016 12:07

Maybe next time blatherskite Wink

chutneypig · 24/01/2016 13:21

What's a Resolutiom run Melanie? I've heard them mentioned before. Sounds quite hardcore!

We're definitely getting a lot in the 35-40 region too, great atmosphere for people.

It made my day to get a mention for my PB in the run report today. Trying to capitalise on that to motivate myself out for a run now but it looks so dreary out there.

MelanieCheeks · 24/01/2016 14:46

resolution run

Not hardcore at all! Choice of 5 or 10k, fundraising for the Stroke Association.

chutneypig · 24/01/2016 16:46

Now I know where I knew the name from, I've done one! It was the first 5k I did. Somewhere in my clearly addled brain I'd got it mixed up with some Equinox type thing Blush. I'll get my coat Grin

standingonlego · 24/01/2016 17:47

Just home from my weekend away. Poole was lovely, my fastest parkrun time ever at 26.35 - delighted. Yes, fiftynine I was there to celebrate crockerys imminent 40th birthday.

Those bollards were deadly....but runners ahead were yelling "BOLLARDS" and pointing down to them!

So after friend dragging me round Poole lake in a record breaking time we had a cuppa in the pavilion then cranked out another 7 miles...we definitely earned our cake /burgers/ cocktails & processo. So tired hungover today

chutneypig · 24/01/2016 18:20

Excellent standing congratulations! I was amazed how fast it was given the number of runners there. My dad came to watch us and was quite taken aback by the whole thing. The organisation is brilliant, couldn't believe how quickly we got scanned and out

standingonlego · 25/01/2016 09:48

just SIgned this petition. A charming local council want to charge parkrunners £1 each to run...nice...

Here's the link:

www.change.org/p/stoke-gifford-parish-council-keep-little-stoke-parkrun-in-little-stoke-park

cinnamongreyhound · 25/01/2016 14:47

I can't see parkrun allowing that to happen, surely they'd liaise with the council and either make an annual payment or find an alternative course?

Blatherskite · 26/01/2016 22:03

No way would parkrun make an annual payment. It's free or it doesn't happen. MK parks trust mooted the idea of charging for parkrun and HQ said an unequivocal "No. Never".

As for a new course...that would be down to the local ambassador/ED to organise. MK would have just stopped as pretty much all of the available parks are run by the same trust.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/01/2016 22:44

We make an annual payment to the forestry commission though blatherskite.

Blatherskite · 27/01/2016 14:36

Really!?!

When the parks trust asked for a payment, HQ were straight back with a 'no, that will never happen' for us.

cinnamongreyhound · 27/01/2016 15:44

Yep £68 a year, the country park paid it this year as the new manager is very happy to have us there as we bring a lot more than that in to their cafe each week.

FiftyNineOhEight · 28/01/2016 21:23

So where are we running/volunteering this weekend?

I'm volunteering at home Smile it is my birthday, so there will be cake Grin. And on tour the weekend after, clever DH managed to book the hotel for our weekend away (Christmas present to ourselves) a couple of miles from a new parkrun Grin
