This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

Lovely run today - and toasty warm as I doubled up the Aldi merino base layers.

Bad luck Thursday for missing out on your presentation. If you don't know, you can keep a check on the points table on the drop down list on the results tab. I am desperately trying to cling on to my current podium place but I think some of the younger runners will catch me before too long!

Well done to everyone who braved the cold today.

steppemum · 16/01/2016 15:00

hello, all, still couldn't run today, knee isn't better and dh is forcing me to be sensible (I am too old and too fat to risk running and damaging it more).

I did a brisk walk on Thursday and it was twinging but survived, so I think I will walk 5 km on Monday and then try a jog/walk on wednesday and be back next Saturday.

Can anyone explain how the points work? I see that I get awarded so many points for this weeks run, but haven't been able to find anything anywhere about how they are awarded.
Is parkrunner of the month based on the points too?

ThursdayLastWeek · 16/01/2016 15:30

I kept a close eye on it last year sweet but I've obviously run less and much slower so I didn't think for a second is still be near enough the top! I don't mind, one of the RDs said he'll keep it for me and I've already volunteered for next week.

Hopefully I'll get finish tokens - I've never done that before. Might invest in some fingerless gloves Smile

steppe I'm sorry about your knee, but you're doing the right thing by continuing to rest it.
And I have no idea how the points are awarded - it's a bit like QI or Fighting Talk!

chutneypig · 16/01/2016 15:31

Beautiful run here too. Patches of ice but they had marshals by the worst ones for the first lap and actually it was much better underfoot than it has been. Fastest time yet running with DD, in sight of my PB so I was really pleased, might have hit it if we hadn't had to stop to take DDs fleece off as she was slightly overthermaled!! Better that than too cold.

That sounds like a sensible plan steppe, hopefully you'll be back in no time.

Hope they kept it for you Thursday.

I think it's something to do with your position in the first hundred women, the nearer the top you are the more points. I'm not troubling any tables Grin. I'm sure someone can explain it better than me.

MelanieCheeks · 16/01/2016 16:27

Lots of Parkrun cancellations here due to ice, but the 10k at mount Stewart went ahead. Beautiful grounds, though wile hilly and muddy, and I didn't manage to make it in under an hour. But a good turn out from my club, and one who was marshalling took lots of photos. Nice medal too!

Points system: First Lady gets 100 points, 2nd gets 99, 3rd gets 98 etc. At the end of the year, those with most points win pwizes. You can check the state of the league table under the "results" tab. As an incentive, you get 100 points for volunteering, though that is capped at 300.

Runner of the month is different, can be given to someone who has made a lot of effort, and is decided by the event and run director team.

MyBlackCat · 16/01/2016 19:53

Well done to all those that ran today - it's was freeeeeeezing.

Out of nowhere I managed a PBGrin I ran my PB back in August and had only got within a minute of since and that was still 50secs outside of it. I felt good on a couple of runs this week and still did today - I took 21secs off it, no idea how! I am now only 11 secs from the next minute milestone so that will be the next aim maybe by summer

Because of the ice our run director said we all had or take it easy and anyone getting a PB would be fined Shock oops.

I was 2nd female today and got 99 points Smile so that fits with melaniecheeks explanation - thanks.

MyBlackCat · 16/01/2016 20:00

And my DH came along today for the first time in a few months - I beat him by almost 2 mins and my new PB is only 20secs slower than his now Shock he says next week he may go to a different parkrun - I think he's running scaredWink

chutneypig · 16/01/2016 20:07

That's just brilliant all round MyBlackCat, well done indeed. Especially in relation to DH Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 16/01/2016 22:01

Well done MyBlackCat!

Yes as MelanieCheeks says its awarded in finish order, at our tiny parkrun everyone gets points but the bigger ones there will be people who don't get points. It's basically rewarding regulars. I'm usually in top 1/3rd and I volunteer once every 5-6weeks and I'm still third in ours. We don't give a prize just a certificate for the top lady and man and boy and girl plus top volunteer.

www.basilthorntonphotography.com/bn2a4234#photo should be a photo of me and my doggies. Was a very technical course, muddy and tough! Little dog was not impressed with the mud and it was 6.2k instead of the 5k advertised! No time yet hoping to be under 30mins.

steppemum · 16/01/2016 22:33

that's really interesting about points.

dh said there were over 500 runners this morning, so very few of our regulars get points, only the fast ones Sad

MelanieCheeks · 16/01/2016 22:36

Were you running with 2 dogs, cinnamon? Much respect!

chutneypig · 17/01/2016 07:17

Great photo cinnamon looks great fun but quite challenging too.

Snow here, so hoping the juniors is on. The DC are very keen to go, nothing to do with the huge fields of snow around the course.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/01/2016 13:03

Apart from parkrun I always run with two MelanieCheeks, they make a good team Smile

Just under half steppemum as 100 men and 100 women will get points Grin

ThursdayLastWeek · 17/01/2016 13:15

Great pic cinners! Nice big lurcher (?) you have there!

I'm not sure if Lanhydrock has ever topped 200, so everyone gets points here Smile

Rumours abound of a new parkrun potentially opening this spring, closer in miles than Lanhydrock but probably the same amount of minutes. It's where my favourite 10k is so I'm looking forward to trying it out.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/01/2016 13:27

He's a greyhound Smile very rubbish ex-racer!

ThursdayLastWeek · 17/01/2016 13:53

Well they're both beautiful Smile

ThursdayLastWeek · 17/01/2016 13:54
steppemum · 17/01/2016 21:11

ok, so I have at the moment, 2496 points for running and 600 for volunteering I have 15 parkruns and 2 volunteers.

So there must be something else added on to the points!

cinnamongreyhound · 17/01/2016 21:34

That must be over 2 years as you can only get a maximum of 300 points from volunteering for a year between your parkruns birthdays.

steppemum · 17/01/2016 22:18

well no, I have only been signed up to parkrun since last Easter, so not even one year, and I have only volunteered twice. (one was in Jan, so it is 2 different years)

But also, I run very slowly, so I usually come in 450th, so there is no way I could have earned 2496 points from 15 parkruns where I come in second to last out of a field of 500!

steppemum · 17/01/2016 22:21

so this is from my results email from my last run:

You have earned 228 points for this run,

ThursdayLastWeek · 17/01/2016 22:22

That's weird steppe Confused

ThursdayLastWeek · 17/01/2016 22:36

Ooh, how exciting I'm on finish tokens this coming week Grin

chutneypig · 18/01/2016 06:52

How weird steppe I'd say it's because you're special Smile

DD and I usually get points, DS and DH rarely do so its a nice leveller for DD. She ends up with the household win on those as she gets a big boost when she does run with DH.

cinnamongreyhound · 18/01/2016 07:28

This is ours. Very odd steppemum as maximum is 100! Mine from last week said:
You have earned 91 points for this run, giving a total of 2729 points in this year's Brandon Country Park parkrun points competition.
