This is a continuation of the parkrunning thread where are all are welcome to chat about tourism, tee-shirts, PBs and everything else parkrun (and sometimes non-parkrun) related.

If you have been lurking on a previous thread now is the time to come out and say hello Grin. Like parkrun we're very inclusive and always welcoming to new starters Smile. And we love hearing about new courses we haven't been to Smile

Individual parkruns can ask for the points awarded to be upped to reflect their field so bigger parkruns, and some of the smaller ones with very techy people who like figures (Tring for instance!), can award more than 100 points to the first finisher.
We have just kept it simple this year and will see how it goes.

Starting to think about our 1st birthday in April (16th for those who may be interested :)) and possible awards. Has anyone got any good examples of what different parkruns have done? I am looking for the slightly more obscure, fun awards as well as the usual points awards, top volunteers, etc.

We did go ahead on Saturday as apart from a few icy puddles the course was fine - I made DS run through all the white bits when we did our course inspection :o We covered the park puddles in cones and had a great turnout inspite of warning people that we didn't know what to expect. Think we will have problems if it's wet and freezing but dry and freezing was fine.

steppemum · 18/01/2016 14:56

awards:
most improved slow runner!

the winter weather runner (barefoot in the snow - we had barefoot in the freezing rain before Christmas)

something for buggy runner or a dog runner?

person who has brought the most new people along (no idea how you find out!)

The points thing - I always get 200 plus points, but I am always one of the last, so I don't understand. I did wonder if they were connected to improved speed/breaking your pb, but this last run was very slow, as it was when I did my knee.

Talking of which, I ran 5 km this morning - Hurray! Was going to walk, but couldn't resist. Very happy as I was fine after 2 week break and my knee was fine all the way round. A little stiff now, but nothing much.

feetheart · 18/01/2016 15:46

steppe - thanks for the ideas, definitely like the 'Most improved slow runner' and need to think of something for buggies or dogs. No regular barefoot runners yet though we have had visitors.

I would assume your parkrun points start at a much higher number than 100 for first finisher then.
Interestingly, having had a look at our tables the men's top 10 are mainly regular fast runners, the women are mainly regular runners but most of them average 30+ mins.

FiftyNineOhEight · 18/01/2016 21:07

I used to be in the top dozen or so, even though I'm not very fast, because I turned up regularly. Indeed, I once got a shout out for being one of the most regular runners, but missed it because I was on holiday that week Grin

We used to recognize the most prolific volunteers before the new tee shirts came in, I don't know if we do now.

I like the idea of most improved runner Smile

chutneypig · 19/01/2016 06:28

Great news about your run steppe, bet that felt good Smile

I love the idea of the most improved slow runner, it's really at the heart of parkrun. Could you do an adult and junior version maybe? Our fast juniors are always a joy to watch but so are the ones who might have found it more of a struggle at first.

cinnamongreyhound · 19/01/2016 07:23

I did reply feetheart but no idea where it's gone! We wore onsies for our first birthday, followed by tutus for our second and now stuck for third. Wanted to try a three legged run but not sure the risk assessment will stretch to it! I didn't know that about the higher points scores, we will never need it but it's interesting to know. We only award top points female, male, boy and girl and volunteer, nothing exciting here!

MelanieCheeks · 19/01/2016 15:46

I came second in the points table in our first year! The bit that made me hoot with laughter was getting my photo in the SPORTS pages! Since then I do too much tourism to rack up the points at my home run.

Could you use age graded percentages to determine "most-improved"?

Three's a crowd, 3 in a bed, 3 coins in a fountain, 3 French Hens....

I had to giggle to myself this morning making a cup of tea, when I realised I'd dreamt last night that I'd finished a parkrun but didn't have my barcode round my wrist as usual, and was panicking.

steppemum · 20/01/2016 11:51

I am so thick, only just realised the onsie, tutu link when Melanie posted!

3 blind mice?
3 musketeers?

I love the photos upthread.
Lovely doggy companions too.

There is a photo of me on our parkrun website. It is a good picture, I am looking at the camera and smiling, mid stride, couldn't really be better.
The only thing is I looked at it and though 'elephant in a T-shirt'
Seriously I am huge, it has made me really think about weight loss this year (probably one reason my knee wasn't happy with extra miles)
So no link!
This time next year I'll post it as a before and after if I have succeeded!!

MelanieCheeks · 20/01/2016 20:46

Been thinking more about threes:

3 bears (porridge Goldilocks, just right) 3 little pigs, 3 wise men, 3 of a kind, shamrock, gentle breeze (force 3),

FiftyNineOhEight · 20/01/2016 21:57

How about a no results parkrun - they can all be threedom freedom runs Smile

feet making calendar for 16 April, I'm sure I can round up a posse Grin

steppe I am sure your photo is not that bad Smile. I never come out well in running pictures.

ARF at Melanie in the sports pages Grin

If any one is planning a trip to Paris this year I have just noticed that a parkrun is starting at the end of January in the Bois de Bologne.

standingonlego · 22/01/2016 21:38

It is parkrun Eve! Looking forward to running Poole for the first time in the morning :)

FiftyNineOhEight · 22/01/2016 21:47

Ooooh sweet

Enjoy your tourism lego - are you visiting your WOLF run friend? Give her my best if you are Smile

I am running at home tomorrow. I am already hurting after today's yoga class so not expecting a good time Smile

chutneypig · 22/01/2016 22:01

Ooh lovely standing. I loved Poole last year, nice and flat but watch the posts over the little bridge. And the goose poo, I nearly lost DS into the boating lake.

I noticed that sweetvparsley. I wasn't looking for city breaks with a parkrun. Oh no.

Hope the aches ease up fiftynine

MelanieCheeks · 22/01/2016 22:22

Might have to miss Parkrun tomorrow-our washing machine went caput this week, and the new one is being delivered between 9 and 11 ( and dh has to go and fetch his son at 9.30) . Oh well. Have a good one, all!

ThursdayLastWeek · 23/01/2016 05:56

Morning all, can't get back to sleep.

steppe running pics are the worst, it's official. Running can make you feel like a goddess but never in my experience does it translate to the body.

Sorry for the washing machine Melanie. Though I'll admit to getting excited when our last one was delivered Blush

I am on finish tokens with a first time RD this morning, wish us luck! The weather here has been awful this week so I expect the ground will be treacherous - I hope there's no injuries.

Have a great morning all!

feetheart · 23/01/2016 08:02

Love the photo cinnamon though I agree that almost all running photos are awful. The only good best one of me was the Autumn Wolef I did with fellow MNetters/parkrunners.

I am actually going to run this morning (barring disasters) though I've lost my running buddy as DS has woken up feeling a bit rough. He is going to be a photographer instead. It will be slow as it is only my second 5k on my way back from injury so I'm still testing the water and may walk some of it. At least I will be on track with my NY resolution to run at least once a month at out parkrun :)

Happy parkrunday everyone (and 'Health to wash' Melanie :))

FiftyNineOhEight · 23/01/2016 08:09

Morning parkrunners Smile.

I hope you got some rest Thursday. I was awake early as well (but not as early as you) listening to a very noisy owl hooting away in the park over the road.

feet hope your post injury parkrun goes well.

Melanie hope the washer is worth missing parkrun for!

Have good runs everyone! I am cursing my yoga teacher, it all feels so easy when you are lying down making tiny movements but goodness me I am stiff this morning Grin

chutneypig · 23/01/2016 11:15

The first ever yoga class I did I could barely move for six days, I couldn't believe how hard it had been, it didn't feel it at the time. And I don't think it was a very hard core class either. Hope it didn't give you too much trouble fiftynine

Enjoy the washing machine Melanie!

How was it Thursday? Hope not too slippery for everyone.

I hope DS is feeling a bit better feet and that the run went well.

The planets aligned for me this morning and I got my first PB in over six months and knocked over 40 seconds off to boot. I even had both kids with me and came in in my worst position ever because we had another record attendance. Sub-30 is in my sights now, just hope it doesn't take another six months Grin

MyBlackCat · 23/01/2016 12:59

Well done chutney on the PB and good luck for the sub 30

After last weeks exploits normal service was resumed today, felt much harder than last week but was 55sec slower. Stupid thing is if I hadn't ran the time I did last week I'd have been well pleased. If I had ran similar to last week I'd have been first female finisher too - that's my new goalGrin hopefully one week this year all the speedster's will not turn up and I'll have a good day!

cinnamongreyhound · 23/01/2016 15:20

Well done chutneypig fab amount to shave off!

I missed parkrun this morning, my second canicross run in two Saturday's. I'm back as rd next week. We had a good turn out again today.

Anyone see a famous brand new parkrunner?

steppemum · 23/01/2016 15:37

way to go chutney!

I ran today (yey!) Was aiming to do a slow jog, so I don't over stress the knee (still not 100%) But ended up in front of the 40 pacer and thought I CAN'T let him overtake me, and then couldn't resist a sprint finish. So was 39 min, which I am very happy with. It will be a while before I am breaking pbs again.

Need to go and buy some new running shoes,

MyBlackCat · 23/01/2016 16:20

I didn't see the famous new parkrunner cinnamon but I have seen a picture - a dame no less Wink

steppemum · 23/01/2016 16:34

ooow - where is she running?
