11.6 from me

+11.06
= 22.66

sunny but not too warm, although I am finding it easier to run in the warmer weather now

Purpletoes · 01/08/2015 15:12

3.1 parkrun for me. Had pacers today so managed to knock 2:40 off PB but just short of sub 30. 30:08 gives me something to aim for in a few weeks!
It was only my second one.
Really need to up my mileage as 10k is in 5 weeks.

Finding it hard to fit in with 3yo and baby but getting there.

Now relaxing in garden in the sun. Summer has come back!

Good luck everyone racing this weekend.

25.76

runtothehills · 01/08/2015 20:17

Amazing knocking 2.40 off your 5k purple well done Star

Family I find trails make distances easier, the more varied the better. You don't spend so much time focused on pace / pounding / breathing, and just enjoy the scenery. Often trail races can be quite sociable affairs too which also helps pass the time!

7 miles today from the Aboyne Highland Games hill race. Heavens completely opened at the start, but sun was back shining by the end. New shoes were brill and knocked 5 mins off last years time too Grin.

32.76 (much easier to add when its in the 10s rather than hundreds and thousands Smile)

lastqueenofscotland · 01/08/2015 21:41

Well done purple!

Hills I so want to do one of those, I nearly did one at bremar games but wimped out a few years back

Much fitter now so should give it a go really.

3.1 (5k Bob on) in just overv25 mins today.

35.86

KeyserSophie · 02/08/2015 04:12

5+ from me yesterday so I'll round to 41

Agree that trail distances feel less far than road even if they take longer. I think that might actually be part of it- I'm doing a 70k in October that will probably take 12 hrs so you just have to relax into it, take a bit of time in the checkpoints, eat and drink a lot and just enjoy. They'll be people who don't run a step of it, people who run 80% of it and everything in between. I'm doing a mixed pair with a friend so should be fun.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 02/08/2015 07:16

January 2457.51
February 2085.5
March 1674.3
April 1534.65
May 1702.77
June 1560.1
July 1583.59

Seven month total = 12, 598.42. Fun Fact: That is almost the diameter of the world!

I like the idea of the marathon in the 50th year familygerms. I am 39 in September and considering challenging myself to run 1000km in the year from then until I'm 40. So about 20km a week which is manageable but doesn't leave much margin for error if I get injured!

A 3.75 run from me today so 44.75

Deliaskis · 02/08/2015 11:41

Wow love the stats fardelsbear. Amazing to see it all add up (even tho I only do very tiny distances).

I'm all proud this morning as I did a hilly 10k route in about the same time as the completely flat one I did a few weeks ago, which was the first and only other time I have run that far. This morning was the route of a local 10k race which is in 4 weeks, so I might do that, although my very slow pace would put m in the last 15 of last year's finishers.

Also a quick mile yesterday to collect the car from where had abandoned it after a drink or two on Friday night!

So 7.21 to add for me, total 51.96

lastqueenofscotland · 02/08/2015 11:43

Morning all.

Was going to go for an 18 miler but a) it's pissing hot b) we have loads of road closures and I'm not sure if they'd still be pedestria friendly so couldn't be bothered to sort a new route. Went and nailed a new half marathon pb by four mins instead.
Very happy. 13.11

57.86 I think we all know my maths skills are grim!

lastqueenofscotland · 02/08/2015 11:44

Oh whoops xpost so actually 65.07

cinnamongreyhound · 02/08/2015 12:00

Well done purpletoes, Deliaskis and lastqueenofscotland.

I have 4 miles from yesterday to and from parkrun and the actual parkrun. So sad to not be running today but really it's my own fault. I feel guilty about what I do without further on a Sunday. Ds3 tends to wake between 6.30-8 is awake 1.5-2hrs and back to sleep. So once I've done his first morning feed I could leave him with dh for a while and they'd all be fine. This is the first Sunday dh hasn't worked for a while and the dogs are not quite healed and it would be weird going without them, but it's still making me sad, so most definitely my own fault!

69.07

emummy · 02/08/2015 12:12

Lovely run in the sunshine this morning. Needed it to keep me calm through the school shoe shopping that followed!
75.4

familygermsareok · 02/08/2015 12:18

Yes, I think that is exactly what he meant, run and Sophie. 26 miles in a marathon was a slog but when he ran an ultra he was like 'wow, was that 26 miles already' and didn't find it too hard to run the extra bit as well.
It's encouraging to hear about ones like your Oct one with a mixture of runners/walkers, I had always thought of ultras as mainly for elite distance runners who just shrugged off marathon distances.
Glad you like your new shoes run, brilliant result Smile

Great running too purple, Delia and lastqueen, it's fab when you see times improving Smile

I love the idea that we have practically run around the world Whowould. Good luck with your own challenge too.

I am Sad today, had planned a long run with DS1 who wanted to do another hm distance for August Strava challenge and we had a perfect window this morning but my Achilles has flared up majorly. I'm blaming myself for adding in a few hill sprints to my intervals yesterday. Knew it wasn't a good idea at the time but stupidly went ahead anyway! I have a proper hm on Sat too. So no running for me but I cycled round with him so have been out at least.

familygermsareok · 02/08/2015 12:42

Aww cinnamon, it is hard fitting it in with everything else sometimes. I think you and purpletoes are amazing managing to run with young babies. I barely got dressed some days at that stage!
Don't feel guilty about what you do though, we all need something for ourselves.

School uniform shopping, aargh! Only 2 weeks left to get that sorted, I keep putting it off.

lastqueenofscotland · 02/08/2015 14:39

Cinnimon/family don't beat yourselves up.
These things happen and you'll be back out smashing it again soon!

MyBlackCat · 02/08/2015 18:08

Hi - is it ok to join the thread - I've been following for a while but thought I'd wait until a new month to introduce myselfSmile

I run around 3 times a week, I love a Saturday Parkrun and I am slowly trying to up my mileage following a bad knee injury which kept me sidelined for 12 months. I've been back running for around 4 months and I love it.

I did 4 miles on Saturday morning as I was away from home working and couldn't get to a Parkrun. I hope my maths is ok!

79.5

MyBlackCat · 02/08/2015 18:09

Maths fail on first post - well memory failure Blush

79.4

Anglaise1 · 02/08/2015 19:39

Cinnammon Purpletoes I don't know how you manage to find time to run with very young children. It's great that you get out at all, so don't be hard on yourself. Its a lot easier when they are older and not with me for 3 weeks
Welcome to the thread Myblackcat. ihope you recover fully from your knee injury and can start running longer and more often soon.
Family I wanted to do a marathon in my 50th year and am really pleased I did. Decide on a nice one to do, abroad if possible because that will motivate you more.
My 26km trail is done, can't say it was the most enjoyable I've done with 30°C sunshine all the way round. Only 500m ascent, my time wasn't great (just under 3 hours) but I was the first (and oldest!) woman by a good 25 minutes so that shows how tough it was. I won a really ugly trophy and a cheque for 50€ for Endurance Shop. Not sure I'll do that one again next year. The good thing was that I didn't suffer my GI problems, so the low residue eating plan seems to have worked.

Anglaise1 · 02/08/2015 19:41

Whoops forgot to add mileage from today
96.3

lastqueenofscotland · 02/08/2015 20:02

I don't know why anglaise but the thought of a really ugly trophy has amused me.

suzanneyeswecan · 02/08/2015 20:34

thats quite a breakthrough then Anglaise with the lack of GI problems:)
You must be pleased even if the race was a tough one!

hi Myblackcat how frustrating not being able to run for such a long time:( fingers crossed the knee trouble is behind you now:)

Anglaise1 · 03/08/2015 09:15

Suzanne I hope it was a breakthrough but my average speed was much lower than in other races because it was necessary to walk up the steep slopes, so less forcing. But I'll definitely try the non residue diet before other races. But this week I'm going to enjoy eating fruit and veg again!

Fairly disastrous week from me. After last Monday's 18-miler I came down with a bug (thanks DS3) and I'm still struggling to shift it off. So no running. I may go out today and see if I can shake it off because I'm extremely grumpy

Lagoon/family – I've had Achilles tendonitis and eccentric loading really does help. Funnily enough I always had niggles with it until I started doing a specific stretch straight after running and now I don't. Maybe coincidence, maybe not. It’s a standing hamstring stretch see here

I was told that I also had tight glutes so it's possible that that stretch releases other muscles which are affecting my Achilles. Also, I got NHS physio for it quite easily so maybe worth going to your GP?

Anglaise – very belated reply but the belt doesn't have bottle holders. Just loops to tuck in gels. Yes I'm in training (or at least was) for the Abingdon marathon in October. It will be my 2nd if I make it Glad the the change in food intake seemed to work.

Halle – there is a big school of thought on the runnersworld forums that most people can get a good for age marathon time if they put the training in. It may take several years but it should be possible. This is my long-term goal – to get a GFA time for the London Marathon by the time I am 49/50. It is 3:50 for 40-49 but 4:00 for >50 and I think that may be achieveable for me with enough training.

Family - I did a marathon just before I turned 40 for a similar reason to you. But I did discover whilst training that I love long runs (to a point).

cinnamon don't be hard on yourself. The fact that you are getting out at all is pretty amazing.

Welcome MyBlackCat

TriJo · 03/08/2015 11:21

My first marathon was a bit of a quarter life crisis - I was 25! Did two more relatively soon after that but the horrible bout of ITB problems I got after the third one put me off a bit. I did my first Olympic distance tri at 30 though if that counts as another decade inspired one?

I think I'll be waiting a while to get a GFA time unfortunately, my PB is 3:59 and I can't see myself getting near 3:45 any time soon no matter how hard I train! I reckon I could run a 4:10-15 in the spring if I trained properly for one.

Had a bit of a disaster of a run on Saturday and felt absolutely awful throughout. Took the rest of the weekend off because I have a goal race coming up on the 9th and the rest was probably of more benefit.

PoppyShakespeare · 03/08/2015 11:52

3 to offer for August, a PB since Graves' disease started fucking everything up! I'm missing my running club and might join them for a short trail run on Weds

96.3 + 3 = 99.3

KeyserSophie · 03/08/2015 13:58

Adding 5 to make 104.3. Taking it easy this week so had a lovely social run with a friend.
